There are so many posts in this sub-reddit, all you have to do is search VPN or torrent safely and you will see the results, opinons, and advice from hundreds of posts. Do that, there's a lot of good information for people.
Is WiTopia based in the U.S.? Or, in any other country (e.g. Canada, Great Britain, Sweden, et al) which is known to cooperate/aid the RIAA/MPAA and their cronies? If so, then you are unlikely to be as safe as you think. VPN's through countries which have tough privacy laws, and make all organisations/companies/groups jump through hoops to gain private information, are where you want your VPN to be based. AND, a VPN which logs as little as possible - and retains such records for the shortest time as possible - are preferred.
Again, all of this information has been discussed, dissected, and provided throughout various posts in this your fingers do the walking.
Any VPN service can bypass IP address based regional blackouts. Search around for one with good reviews.
Personally I pay for WiTopia year-round (50-70 depending on plan). They encourage high bandwidth activities like streaming to prove their services are solid.
Not sure if it works with other leagues too, but in order to bypass NBA blackouts, use a VPN service.
I use WiTopia to access blackout games on NBA League Pass from Canada, I just switch my IP to Europe and it works like magic.
I've been using a VPN for about 6 months now after getting caught downloading a few times. It works like a charm. I've been using . WiTopia and Ipredator seem to also be pretty good for the price and speed.
Filehosting sites like megaupload/mediafire have always worked well for me too. You can find filesharing forums with a lot of content that use hosting sites.

I use a VPN service to get around that kind of stuff. I have been very happy with WiTopia. It may be overkill for this, but I use it all the time for other things. Lots of stuff seems to be region restricted and WiTopia gets around that without totally wrecking one's download speeds.

I use WiTopia, the speed isn't great for gaming but it's certainly passable and there are a large number of portals to choose from. I wouldn't use it for torrenting since they once sent me a warning when I forgot to turn off my torrents, but torrents are normally fine without a vpn anyway.
VPNs are easy, and are your best solution. Subscribe to WiTopia, and you can have your pick of different international sites. If you point it at Tokyo, it'll appear to the website that you are in Tokyo.
This happened to me once as well, for reasons that I still don't know my account got banned for about a month (at least I think it was banned, I couldn't log in, kept saying server problems or something). I wasn't using it heavily at the time anyway, and after a good number of e-mails to them went unanswered I moved on.
Then two months later, out of the blue I got an e-mail from them saying that they'd had "technical difficulties" that had prevented my account from logging in, and that it was all fixed now.
If you're having problems creating an account, clear out ALL your cookies and possibly try using Private Browsing mode in your browser. I've also found that OKC often won't let you log in if you're using a VPN relay service such as WiTopia.
I use WiTopia and works a treat. Comes with a pretty good OpenVPN program for Mac (Viscosity) which you would normally have to pay for. Fairly cheap and gives you VPNs all over the world that work with Hulu & BBC iPlayer.
This may not be related, but I read an article a week or so ago (too lazy to find it) about the Chongqing PSB getting all hardcore over VPNs ~ they were going to fine anyone caught using them.
I lived in Chongqing for several years and during that time used three different VPN services before finally settling on WiTopia. I found that in Chongqing the cyber snoops attacked VPNs relentlessly so that I'd have to keep changing connection points throughout the day. WiTopia was better than most because it has a shit ton of connection points and seemed to resist the attacks. Since moving from there a couple of years ago, I've never had trouble using a VPN.
I read something about that in an article about 9 months old, I'll link it if I manage to dig it out again.
As for your problem, you could try a VPN, WiTopia has a really good setup and offers plans on a monthly basis for as low as $5 and you can choose multiple months right ahead, which lowers the price. I was really satisfied and that way you can create yourself a tunnel to tune in from another location and watch blacked-out games. Check it here!. I was really satisfied with them.
It might come up a bit pricey altogether, though, MLB subscription and the VPN.

It's been this way for months; Facebook doesn't want to pay Korean censors to rate the games, which the Korean government was going to require, so they instead blocked all Facebook games on Korean IP addresses. You can get around it using a VPN or similar IP masking service. I personally use WiTopia, but I understand that there are free options available depending on your needs.
This is a total waste of time and money. If you want a filter, you can get one for yourself. Information should be free, and will be free, it is just big business and governments preventing that right now.
Besides that, these filters will be easily bypassed with a simple proxy server, which more people will get if the filters are introduced, meaning they will actually have less control of what we do on-line, and put a strain on bandwidth.
I bet the folks at WiTopia are pretty exited about this.
I apologize! It's been so long since I set this up that I forgot how I even discovered/downloaded Viscosity. WiTopia is the company that provides the VPN service THROUGH Viscosity. It's $59.99 per year.
I live in France and stream US Netflix through the WiTopia VPN. It works just fine and there are no consequences when I accidentally forget to turn on the VPN or lose connection exposing my French IP address. I really don't think Netflix cares. Is anyone using the same Netflix log in credentials to navigate through other countries' Netflix services? That would be handy.

edit: No, scrap that. It's hopeless with Smart LTE. I'm getting 3-20KB/s. Ergh. They also make my PPTP VPN connection unusable.
It's probably one of two things:
Your firewall is preventing outgoing connections, so can't determine your location. This is what happens to me at work.
However you have your proxy set up is not reporting a location to . If can't determine a location, it automatically assumes you're trying to bypass blackouts and gives you a technical difficulties message.
If it's something that's going to bother you the rest of the year, I really suggest you get a VPN. WiTopia is $50/year.

Yes, or you need to pay the subscription fee. Also, you have to pay to view it in Canada, but they also get exclusive games that you don't get as a paying subscriber in the US (I have no idea why), but get for free in India.

I'm pretty sure there isn't. You can go to and purchase a subscription for $15/month to watch them, or if you have a VPN (like WiTopia) you can use the India server to watch for free. Willow streams in HD through YouTube.

For your PC, get yourself a VPN like WiTopia anywhere outside of the US and you should be able to access as well.
A VPN would also work for an AppleTV/Boxee Box/Roku if you route its connection through your computer (or can connect your router to the VPN).
If none of these are an option, is not awful. Last year it had the TBS audio feed and your choice of several camera angles or a multiview. Basically you just don't get the switched program feed.
I don't know if audio is blacked out on the computer, but I know it isn't in the MLB app. The radio is always my preferred postseason listening vehicle, since the TBS announcers are fucking awful.
Intuitively you're correct. (And I've never tried this with OpenVPN, just to re-emphasize the point.) But some VPNs allow users to communicate with each other. i.e if User A and User B both connect to VPN Z, they can connect to each other for, say, file sharing. Years ago on such a VPN, I, as User A, used an arp poisoning-like trick (very similar to what you'd use to sniff on a switch) to monitor traffic intended for User B over VPN Z.
Like I said, though, It doesn't look like the VPN setup WiTopia is using would allow such a trick. I never tested it though.

Stable and reliable, mostly decent online tech support.
Not sure what their services are like currently, but judging from their website they have continued to develop products and capabilities.

There are also anonymous proxies like kproxy. Anyone who saw which domains and IP's you are visiting would only see the connection to kproxy.
Anonymous proxies are not for sensitive information like passwords or credit card numbers so never enter anything like that when you are using one.
WiTopia sells a VPN Router that'll essentially VPN all the traffic in the house (including firestick). I've never used one (I VPN my various machines), but it seems it's right up the alley for what you're doing. Else, I think you can put an OpenVPN client on the android behind the Firestick's interface and launch it from the Applications menu.
To be clear I paid for WiTopia so to me there were just a real as any of the others.. They will not be getting any more of my money tho. It's just weird that I have had no problems the last few years and all the sudden halfway through now it's broken.
China generally has a tight grip on internet communication. You’ll find you can bypass a lot of their firewalls with a vpn and you should even be able to get a vpn WiFi router that can make it appear that you are in another country by using a different IP address. Most of those services (I recommend Strong VPN or WiTopia) will cost you about 70-100 bucks a year.
Instead of being smart and making an alias of python = python3 I did that. I managed to restore the folder using time machine but the app still isn't working. Nice tip. I had WiTopia and I've used it for the past 4+ years and my subscription just ended. I had close to zero issues with them but I did read a list that WiTopia logs their users activities, etc. There's a free trial with VPN Ghost so I'll try them out.

Honestly, the big thing I want to do is allow Tasker to change my Location mode setting. The toggle on the drawer just turns it completely on or off, and I use location-aware stuff for Smart Lock and Tasker stuff, so I need it on and in low power normally, on and high for driving. Without root, Tasker can't switch from High Accuracy to Power Save, and it kills my battery. Everything else is taken care of when I exit the car, but not that one (or turning it on when I get in).
That, and get rid of the stupid S Finder and Quick Connect buttons on the notification drawer. And run Android Firewall without it being a VPN hack which breaks my WiTopia vpn, and YouTube AdBlock, and being able to run XPrivacy to hide my personal data from apps that want too many permissions...
Using a VPN worked great for me when I was in London. I had a subscription to WiTopia and it was wonderful. (I know there are some free plug in least when I tried them they were less stable, but they might be better now).
Canadian here. Using american Netflix. On android (KitKat) you just go to settings, VPN. Enter VPN info.
If you did it right, there will be a key icon on the top right of your phone.
There are many vpns, most are throttled after about 1 movie though. So you will probably need to purchase a membership.
The vpn service will have instructions on how to use it on your phone.

Pretty sure you need a VPN to be able to access the game servers from Japan, I know I need one to play the NA version from Korea. I do play the Korean version when my husband is home to help me with the Korean that I don't understand, but I prefer to play on the NA EN version when he's not there to help me -_-;
The latency is noticeable when using VPN, but I haven't had any real issues so far. I use WiTopia. I don't really PvP though, and I understand that ping times in fast situations might make the added latency a killer.
We didn't have a problem when we were there last year. Both me and my husband are technoophiles. We got something called WiTopia for stuff from home (US). It's roughly $50 US per year. I think we're at the $70 per year because of the sheer amount of things we wanted to watch. It's very lonely only having foreign languages shows to watch. That's why I wanted it.
We did use the fiber cable. It was OCN(?? correct me, I don't have our bills here in the US). And NTT was I think parent company. We didn't use Japanese TV. I don't understand the language and my husband who has rudimentary language skills wasn't much fond of what he did understand from their TV shows.
Also, does Japan really not have stuff like HBO and Showtime? I hate reality TV no matter what language it's in.
I recently signed up for WiTopia's VPN service ($50 per year) because it is compatible with all of my devices (Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, and Chrome (including Chrubuntu on my Samsung ARM Chromebook). I wanted a VPN that would work with the Chromebook because it has become my primary travel computer. I often connect using public Wi-Fi hotspots so as to save from exceeding my data cap if tethered to my cell phone.
The only issue I had was setting up the VPN in Chrome OS on the Chromebook. I had to use the New York City gateway's IP address instead of server name. I use identity cloaker, super reliable, tons of servers and countries available. I watch and stream british tv all the time with it and it works great. Been using it for over 3 years now at 80euros a year, worth every penny

If you want to get around national barriers, get a VPN service (like WiTopia) and just connect to a different country. You'll be able to access everything online as if you were in that country. It's how people in China get around the government imposed firewall. Also, it has the nice added benefit of encrypting everything you do.
Uhg, try watching ABC shows in the rest of the world! I've been trying to find some way to watch An Elegant Gentleman's Guide to Knife Fighting for some time. Right now I'm VPNing with WiTopia but 9 times out of 10 iView is stuck buffering literally every 20 seconds.
At least you have the option to pirate, I can not find a torrent anywhere for that show!
Like the BoardwalkBody said, use a VPN server. However, I recommend actually buying a subscription to a reputable service. It's a lot faster and protects your privacy to boot (hooray for torrents!). I use WiTopia from Russia and it works like a charm. If you want to use Netflix through your xbox, you have to set up the VPN on your laptop and connect it to your Xbox with an ethernet cable after fiddling with some network settings. Just Google "setting up VPN on xbox" or something similar - there's a ton of tutorials.
If you're serious and not just saying that as a begging tactic, I have some advice for you. Use proxies. I'm in Russia right now, and I can't access any games/ movies/ fucking anything. Signed up for WiTopia and can now buy from Steam and watch Netflix with no problem.
If you pay for Graboid there is no limit to how much you can download, and if you switch accounts after each 2gb, then you can do the same. The only restriction would be that you couldn't download 1 single file that's bigger than 2gb.
I actually have a VPN (WiTopia) and use torrents, etc. I just found Graboid and was very impressed by it. It's so much faster than anything else around. I figured it would be of interest to other redditors and so I shared it.
Gmail used to be blocked but it works fine these days (last 1 yr). Google is ok for a while but Images don't work. Try WiTopia. $60, superfast, amazing customer service (I get a reply in less than 10 mins for any issues that usually turn out to be my fault for having being a 'tard)

If your freaking out, you can use IPREDATOR.
They accept en envelope with money so there is no moneytrail :)
(you can even tunnel your data between your vpn and your pc trough TOR)
But don't expect hi-speed connections that way.
I don't think that's the question, though. Outside the VPN, you might all look like one user. But can another subscriber to the same VPN service snoop on and de-anonymize your activity? I know that WiTopia's OpenVPN option should prevent that by default, but I've never tested it in any serious way to make sure that it does.
there are no "free" solutions but using a VPN and proxy service will let skype work. WiTopia and UnBlock VPN seem to be the cheapest option. If the friend has computer savy friends with a dedicated server they could create a VPN for him to use free.
