i use the adaptive rotation lock app for that https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ui.robot.rotate
when you rotate your phone it momentarily puts a semi-transparent button on screen you press if you actually want it to rotate. you can have per application exceptions as well.
Adaptive Rotation Lock - Keep your device in portrait or landscape until you select to switch. When physically rotating your device, you'll see a small button appear in the middle of the screen that may be pressed to rotate the image. If left unpressed, the image will stay in the original portrait/landscape mode. Helps watch vertical YouTube videos.
TVMC - Android XBMC/Kodi client. Open the app and run the setup. Add-ons are automatically installed to begin watching streaming content, similar to what can be done on the Windows/Linux clients. UI can be hard to navigate, and there's still no way I know of to chromecast videos besides casting my screen. But definitely worth it for me.
Rotation Lock Adaptive (a.k.a "Adaptive Rotation Lock") Free, or Paid. I use Paid so I can change it per-app for games and stuff.
What is does is not immediately change the software orientation when I physically rotate the phone, but instead for a few seconds it puts a small clear confirmation icon in the center of the screen that you have to tap if you want the rotation to take effect. Almost no more unintended flips, but if I want one it's very fast to get it.
A side effect is that it holds the chosen mode by force and can rotate (or fail to automatically rotate for) apps that weren't meant to be in particular orientations, some handle it more gracefully than others.
By using an app called Adaptive Rotation Lock I am able to accomplish this by keeping the phone locked in portrait and making Youtube fullscreen.
Adaptave Rotation Lock - Android
Puts a little icon in the middle of the screen when the sensor trips for a rotate, and then will only rotate if you press it.
If you have an iphone though I got nothin.
If you have an android, you can download "Rotation Lock Adaptive (Free)" by MICGOOWARE. Here's a link to it. It doesn't require root, and you can put your phone into forced landscape, or forced portrait, or auto, or whatever you want. It's essential to every phone I've had.
There's absolutely no excuse for it to not allow landscape rotation. I'm using it in landscape right now(through brute force, essentially).
Personally I'd recommend just switching to BaconReader, but for anyone who wants to force this official app to not be disgracefully stubborn, there's this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ui.robot.rotate&hl=en_US&referrer=utm_source%3Dgoogle%26utm_medium%3Dorganic%26utm_term%3Dplay+rotation+lock+adaptive&pcampaignid=APPU_1_PmXMWpqvJOaUjwTswbaQCA
Install Adaptive Rotation Lock and put it in landscape mode. You can get rid of its notification by long pressing it and disabling notifications under App Info.
Honestly Rotation Lock Adaptive is much better solution, since you don't need to fiddle with things and you know, chrome and chrome incognito is the same app :D
If you need to use it before you can get it fixed, this app should let you force your phone to turn 180 degrees so you can it upside down.
This works well for what you want:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ui.robot.rotate
You can also set it so that a little button pops up that you can press to rotate the screen if you turn your device to a different orientation.
This will do it
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ui.robot.rotate
I haven't used it for a while, I had the paid version, but it worked great on my 6p. It also hasn't been updated for a long time but it worked ok at least 6 months ago.
>Ultimate Rotation Control
Looked at that app and it simply adds the options to widget or notifications. Not a big deal if you already use gravity box.
The one I use is a bit better because it solves the issue that most people only need landscape when they watch videos. Rotation lock adaptive
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ui.robot.rotate
Adaptive rotation - if you find automatic screen rotation annoying then this app is for you. It will detect the device's orientation and show a transparent button to let you decide whether the screen should be rotated to landscape or portrait....
I use Rotation Lock Adaptive. It can force rotation into just about any app, but the results aren't always great, which is the case with the stock launcher. Nova is great in landscape though.
Give this app a try: Adaptive Lock Rotation
It keep the screen lock to the current orientation. When you rotate your screen a button will appear allowing you to lock it to that new orientation. The button disappears after a second or so.
Link to Rotation Lock Adaptive - it's cool app if you use your phone mostly vertical and only need horizontal for rare times.
I've been using Rotation Lock Adaptive since I first got my phone. You can set it to "reverse landscape" or "reverse portrait" to lock the screen in the position you want, or "forced auto" will automatically rotate the screen based on your phone's position even if it's not normally supported. It's free and easy to use.
I ended up installing this app for when AR stops working and I don't feel like resetting. It's not perfect since you still have to flick down to select your orientation but it's better than waiting for the thing to reboot.
Alright, I see.
When I first read
>widgets are dead but notification status enhancements are on the rise and should be
I started thinking about Nougat features, like quick reply, bundling and quick settings tiles - these could always use more apps that take advantage of them.
Then I read the rest and got curious about what other things you've been missing.
> Many times i have apps randomly closing on me when i want it to do something just a little bit more or try to do basic multi tasking
I know that feel, had a phone with 1 GB transition from KitKat to Lollipop (and onwards)... :D
By the way, if you need a rotation app, I recommend this one. Not the prettiest or most updated, but works well even after 3 years, especially I like adaptiveness (if you the RAM to hold it) and ability to turn phone upside down.
Since you mentioned forcing portrait (but that's the normal way, you mean landscape?) a workaround might be to use an app like this - it can force apps like PoGo into landscape. Also, the main feature is awesome, I use the paid version myself.
That is awesome.
I've never really needed it though. I have been using this app forever and it works great - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ui.robot.rotate&hl=en
I use the "adaptive lock" mode (top of the list). It will even allow 180 degree rotation, which google itself doesn't. Way more convenient IMO than turning rotation on and off.
For the camera, I saw from one of the hands-on videos that you can take a selfie either way - if it's flipped, it will rotate the picture too.
For the UI itself, I am not sure if 180' rotation is implemented to MIUI, but I know you can use an app like this one to do it in any phone. Since this phone vibrates screen to make sound and usually phones have 2 mics, you might just be able to call while upside down too.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ui.robot.rotate I have been using this application just for this exact issue. Just set it to use adaptive rotation so it will keep your screen on portrait orientation even if you put it horizontal orientation.
But when you want to change the orientation, then you just need to push little transparent button on the screen.
That button is on the screen only after you rotate your phone, and it will automatically disappear after 3 seconds so it won't be in the way while you watch videos.
Only "issue" is that you have to manually select applications like YouTube and dailymotion if you want those full screen buttons to put them automatically in the full horizontal mode when you press that button.
> screen doesn't rotate anymore
I've had that issue too and this app worked well for a workaround.
For the phone, I would suggest anything but the same phone (to experience something new and better), however 6 is big and 5X doesn't seem too powerful this year. Maybe get a Moto X 2014? That should have plenty of custom ROMs, too.
Not exactly what you said need, but it may solve your problem:
Rotation Lock Adaptive - locks your rotation and lets you rotate your screen only if you explicitly press button (which appears in a middle of the screen when you rotate to either side). Just open this app and select "adaptive lock".
The game can't rotate into Reverse Landscape orientation for Android, only the regular Landscape. You have to use third-party "orientation locker" app to do the trick (I personally use this app).
I keep rotation adaptive on my phone, so when I want phone screen to rotate after I rotate phone I just press in the middle of the screen.
Anyone attempted using a rotation locker app? Something like this maybe.
Edit: Ad only appears on the later versions of PTV. If you run an older version, you may not encounter this ad. Also, the ad seems to skip certain devices. For instance, my LG motions have not run into the ad yet. They are running the latest version of PTV.
Edit 2: My PWS phones have not run into the ad yet. Runnning mostly Moto E for PWS.
I can remember having this work for me, but I was never on a Note 3 so YMMV. I linked to the free app, but there's a donate option which seems to be more updated
I use this rotation lock app to lock the screen orientation so I can play SIF with the orientation. It should work regardless of which device you're using.
So your tablet isn't present atm, huh? I guess we'll just have to wait and see about it.
You can't rotate SIF screen in normal way for Android. You have to use third-party screen rotation app to get it done. There's a lot of such apps out there (I personally use this one).
I play with either of them depending on situations, although I'm starting to get better playing with thumbs lately (because I had to... read more below).
Due to the nature of my phone design (ASUS Zenfone 5 with curved back), most of time I had to play with thumbs. I used to play with SAMSUNG Galaxy S II with relatively-flat back, which was the time I play a lot better with index fingers than thumbs. It was until I got the new phone that I started to play more with thumbs.
Also, the phone's headphone jack is placed very close to the left corner of the top of the phone, so it's very obstructive to hold the phone with game-controller style (and I play a lot better with earpiece than speakers). I also bought the flip cover for the phone, and it's even more obstructive with the cover dangling, and it feels bulky if I hold the cover on the back of the phone as well. The game doesn't support automatic rotation, so I had to install this app (I only need the Reverse Landscape orientation) so I can play comfortably without getting obstructed.
Thanks to that app and the flip cover though, I can also play the game more with fingers, but only when my laptop is around (I can only play with the phone placed on bed or on my thighs otherwise, and it's hard to play on soft surfaces). I let my laptop "bite" the phone's flip cover so I can play with the phone placed on hard surface. The phone is slightly lifted at the laptop side, so my phone won't shake anywhere everytime I tap.
Skill-wise, playing with finger is better than thumbs, although my thumbs are getting better and better now as I got used to it.
I just installed Adaptive Rotation Lock the other day and my auto-rotate woes are finally over!

Force Pokemon Go or any other app to portrait or landscape using this app. (Android)
Oooh, never thought of that. I'll try it (super easy on android) next time I see a Scyther, Dragonite, etc. that are hard to hit.
For those who don't need rotate control per app and still want more control can use Rotation Lock Adaptive (Free)
Adaptive Rotation Lock works for me https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ui.robot.rotate
no root required
This app works pretty good:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ui.robot.rotate
I don't think it will ever be a stock feature, but you can use this, no root required.
Or you can just Rotation Lock Adaptive and forget about it.
I have been using this for years for this.
I use Adaptive Rotation Lock to tackle the rotation problem. Rotate your screen to the preferred position before you open Cinema Box.
Check out this

It's old but it works.
Rotation Lock Adaptive might be what you're looking for.
This one works great for me: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ui.robot.rotate
this one works perfectly with android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ui.robot.rotate
List made using List My Apps
Here https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ui.robot.rotate open it up and set it to "Reverse Landscape". Hope this helps!
If you are using android phone, try Adaptive Rotation Lock! It is very useful for me when watching streams before sleep.
I know with this app, you can set it so when certain apps launch it will automatically change the orientation of the screen.
Rotation Lock Adaptive is one of the very first apps I install on my phone. It's been good to me.
Try this. Worked for me last time I was on mobile. link
Yup, it was actually an app from the play store that allowed me to do it. Should still work fine though. Link
Have you tried Adaptive Rotation Lock?
