For your case, if you dirty flash (flash without wiping) there's a high chance you'll bootloop. Personally I've never been successful with dirty flashing from stock to custom.
Since you're rooted already, there are several backup apps you can use.
Contacts can be synced with your Google account, or download apps and restore the .VCF once you finish wiping
SMS can be transferred in a similar fashion as contacts, plenty of apps
App data you can use Titanium backup, it's an annoying process but the safest way IMO
User data USB cable and transfer it to your computer.
I have done it yesterday, hell of a ride. For sms and call log I used successfully this.
Take care of your accounts that use 2FA with google authenticator. Export your accounts or disable it before going back to android 11, otherwise it will be hell of a ride contacting all the sites to disable it, if possible.
Go to Settings> Cloud and accounts> Backup and Resotre> Back up my data> Select what you want (Phone, Clock, Home Screen, Apps, Settings, Messages, Music, Voice Recorder, & Documents)> Backup Now. This will be the best way to backup your settings. If you want to back up all of your APK's I suggest Super Backup & Restore for your applications only. This WILL NOT save the data to individual apps. The application can backup your contacts, calendar, SMS, call logs & bookmarks but I have only used it to save APKs. I hope this helps. Google should be able to backup your apps as well if you want to have a third option. I hope this helps.
photos, music can be copied directly off the phone if you connect via usb cable to your pc. contacts can be synced to your google account. there are also this app that can backup texts and contacts: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.idea.backup.smscontacts
for apps and app data, without root you can try helium. you need to install the app and the program on your pc. there are instructions on the website linked in the play store description. without root it will save on the phone. then you need to copy it off the phone via usb cable. that about covers it.
Okay so firstly I made backup of our sms from my friend's phone using this Application The file it created was .xml
Then I edited the file a very little Just open the file and replace the text
Type="1" into Type="2"
And
Type="2" into Type="1"
It may sound tough but if you do all this, it will only take maximum 5mins to do everything I will explain everything bellow And feel free to ask anything
In the file Type="1" represents one person And Type="2" represents another
So by editing the file I just reversed it And then Imported it in my phone Using the same application i used to backup
Do reply me if you are going to do it, I'll help you with some more details
I personally used Super Backup & Restore(play store download link) and can confirm it worked flawlessly for me across multiple devices, both awful chinese knockoffs and high end phones. It worked for restoring SMS, contacts and calls. Not trying to sound like an advert but it legit worked. Try it out.
If your data isn't backed up on the cloud such as Google contacts etc or elsewhere such as a nandroid backup or some other such method, it won't be there when you restore.
When you sign into Google it will redownload all of your applications, and restore your home screen to how it was as long as you used something like Google now launcher, and as usual factory reset doesn't clear out any media files you may have, so as long as you don't wipe your internal SD card on the way you'll be fine.
Sense your internal data is fine you can use an application such as the well known/ trusted app super backup & restore to backup apks, call logs, SMS, contacts, calendars, bookmarks(if your browser doesn't support backing them up... Somewhere) and they'll be safe that way.
If anyone was also unaware, your sim card has space on it to save contacts, so you don't need to lose your very important contacts you're worried about if you're really worried about it.
There are a couple different ways to back stuff up. Super Backup is pretty solid, but either way, you're gonna want to get an SD card of some sort, and move everything you can to that.
Nearly similar here. I've tried all kinds of tricks, and nothing has helped much.
8AM to 2PM - 25%
Unacceptable.
Thanks, Google.
As for post about backup - I use this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.idea.backup.smscontacts&hl=en
It works well enough.
Word of warning - some reports indicate factory reset does no good. Would be curious to hear if it does for you.
Yeah, I know just what you mean. :-( I've got a few apps that I keep around. My very first install on a new phone is "Gesture Search" from Google, which lets you use your finger to literally write phone contacts names to find them. It's long gone but I don't know what I'd do without it. That, and Vanced Manager.
Really, I run "Super Backup & Restore" in the background -- it automatically saves every APK I install. And I set it in "infinite" mode; normally it only keeps the last few versions.
You ALWAYS want to keep at least one. I've had sudden broken functionality or "Instant Ads" added; this lets you easily revert to the "last known good" version.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.idea.backup.smscontacts
Use this, you can extract all SMS using it as a xml file with all data like date and time and can easily view it on any browser by just opening it like you open a PDF file.
have been using super backup for years:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.idea.backup.smscontacts&hl=en&gl=US
it works well. can even set up automatic periodic backups
Yeah but the app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.idea.backup.smscontacts&hl=fr
already allows the full copy of SMS, contacts, and call log, without root. What I'm looking for is an app like this but automatic and via network (if it's for the same features as Super Backup fine, but having a way to backup apps, files, pictures, etc would be also nice)
Hey there's an easy fix. Install this app on your Redmi 2. Backup your contacts, sms, call logs etc. There will be .xml files created. These files are accepted in lots of other apps as well. Just backup the .xml files on gdrive or something. Then just download them on your new phone. Use the same app to restore them easily.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.idea.backup.smscontacts
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.idea.backup.smscontacts
Backs up apk, sms, contacts, call logs and calendar
Are you talking about moving to another carrier with the same phone/number? If that's the case your phone won't know the difference after you switch and will keep all of your old text messages.
There's an app that I use to backup my text messages and call logs if you're worried: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.idea.backup.smscontacts
you mean sms? I use super backup app for this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.idea.backup.smscontacts&hl=en
works great
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.idea.backup.smscontacts
Does schedule SMS backup/restore locally or to your Gdrive.
Understandable. In that case I've used this app on phones i didn't have root on. Looks like it was made about 10 years ago but it just works.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.idea.backup.smscontacts
This is what it looked like :
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <allsms count="100"> <sms address="number/service" time="10-Aug-2018 8:49:46 PM" date="1533914386239" type="1" body="SMS string" read="0" service_center="" name="address book name" />
</allsms>
This is the app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.idea.backup.smscontacts
The app name is actually Super backup and Restore
Use Samsung Cloud to backup you phone settings, sms, call log etc. It has many options. Alternative is
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.idea.backup.smscontacts
It can backup some stuff too.
I use SuperBackup to backup the APKS. You will have to log into all your apps again, as they will essentially be fresh installs, but it makes things a little easier than going through the app store for each app.
A few years ago I used Super Backup & Restore which worked well enough, but I've since been using Titanium Backup for everything.
> Any way to recover it?
No. But you can prevent future accident like this by using some app that backups your sms. I'm using Super Backup for Android (free), it has Google drive sync capability so you can retrive the backup even if you can't access the phone.
Try this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.idea.backup.smscontacts&hl=en&referrer=utm_source%3Dgoogle%26utm_medium%3Dorganic%26utm_term%3Dsuper+back+up&pcampaignid=APPU_1_Oht2V-aNOIX4vATpzoPIAw it is called super back up it is relatively easy to use
I am not sure what app I used last time I backed up my SMS messages, but it was an app something like this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.idea.backup.smscontacts&hl=en
It's a shame Android users don't thing like itunes that's a all in one solution.
What I do is back everything up using some sms/contacts backup app (this one has worked for me, but I'm sure there are more), move the backup files to the new phone, and restore then using the same app.
Super Backup : SMS & Contacts (by MobileIdea Studio)
Claims that it has an "Option to select which text conversations to backup or restore" so you can use it for the Landlord ones only. I havent personally tested this app to restore Messages, I've only tried it on apps and it did the job. Material'ish Design, free with ads.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.idea.backup.smscontacts
without root the restoring-part is only possible via adb (i think it even has to be via cable) like described by kulboy121 but with SMS Super Backup https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.idea.backup.smscontacts you might back data up without root, but for restoring you will need it rooted
If you have an sd card you should definitely use Super Backup its the best app imo for transfering apps, messages, contacts, call logs etc.
To transfer contacts and calendars, the easiest way is to sync it with your Google account. On your S3, go to Settings > Accounts, find your Google account and turn the sync on. Wait a bit and do the same thing on your new G3. If it's already on, then try to turn it off and on again, that should force synchronization.
If that doesn't work, which I definitely have weird experiences with, you can try Super Backup. It doesn't require root, and lets you backup a lot of stuff. Once you've backed everything up, transfer the files over to your G3, install Super Backup and use the restore option.
If you want to restore data from apps, you will definitely need root, there's no other way that is easy. As for multimedia, I assume you already know how to do that.
Super Backup is a third party app that lets you backup apps, contacts, SMS.
Question then, is which of these methods will back-up an app and its data? For instance, let's say I get to level 10 on a game and make myself a reminder on an app. How do I back-up/restore those things?
Yes the factory image is what they would load on before sending you the device it is all the original software, so it WILL reformat everything, so use something like super backup to backup SMS texts, and even applications if you wanted to, use your photos app to sync all your photos to the cloud and then plug your phone into your computer to pull off the rest of you media/ files (if you didn't save/ send them to drive/ Dropbox/ etc.) And youll be golden, plus backing up your files this way is something you should do in case any issues occur, I.e. lost phone/ somehow your phones internal data was wiped.
[ Dedicated app alternatives for backing up sms & call history - Sms backup & restore - send backups to google drive.
Also make sure your contacts are synced with your Google account. Go to https://contacts.google.com to check that.
Phone settings - go to settings > backup & reset > under Google backup & reset make sure 'backup my data' is on & your account is selected.
games data & app data - with google account. Apps like WhatsApp has option to backup chats to google drive , use that. Apps like nova launcher/action launcher has an option to make backup file. Store them to google drive.
-Photos, Videos, music, documents other files-
Use apps like -
Feemv4 - You can share files using wifi-direct or by connecting PC & Your phone to same wifi network.
You can use apps that support FTP. To copy folders to PC.
File managers like - Solid file explorer
Airdroid / Airmore
Use solid explorer FTP method if your internet is fast. !
A) Well, you could try a simple OTA flash to 7.0. Wouldn't bother waiting until 7.1 if your phone doesn't work! And either way you could just update again. This option will not wipe your data. Although probably a good idea to make sure you have any important stuff just in case.
Instructions and download on page
B) If you want to, or need to try a full factory reset to 7.0, you can do that here
If you pick B, all your data will be wiped. If you have Backup turned on, Google should remember all your apps and reinstall them. Your SMS/MMS is not automatically backed up (unless you can go to hangouts.google.com in a PC and see them. Only the ones you see will be backed up since you're on Project Fi). Otherwise, you can use an app like Super Backup. Your pictures are backed up if you have backup turned on in the Google Photos app. Your contacts are backed up if you have your contacts stored in your Google account (you can check by going to contacts.google.com from a PC). Your application data (like if you have savedata in some game) is not backed up. You'll have to look up a tutorial if you want that, because I never worry about it.
Root) If you want to root, I'd recommend B because you need to do the oem unlock option to root, which is in the steps for a factory reset, which will wipe all your data. If you want to root, don't do the oem lock step! also leave ADB debugging enabled.
And then as for rooting, seeing as how you did B and you're already unlocked and have fastboot... Download this recovery image and then run the same "adb reboot bootloader" command as before if you're in the OS. This time make sure you're in the same directory as your recovery image and run "fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.0.2-0-shamu.img"
Once you have a recovery flashed, you can press the down volume key a few times while in fastboot until you see the Recovery option. Tap the power key to go into it. It will ask you if you want to modify system files or whatever, just say yes (otherwise when you reboot into the OS it'll remove the recovery again).
Now all you need to do is flash SuperSU. Also, don't extract the .zip.
You can either stay in recovery and simply adb push the file to your sdcard. For example "adb push SR5-SuperSU-v2.78-SR5 /sdcard/"
Or reboot and download it from the Android OS, and reboot back into recovery.
Then go back into recovery, click the "Install" button and find the SuperSU .zip file and swipe to install, and you're all good.
Like the prompt says, when you press the Reboot button just let it go. It might reboot itself a few times, but eventually you'll get to your OS and you'll have SuperSU.
If you need any clarification, don't hesitate to reply! I skimped a little bit on the details because I assume you know how to use the CMD from Windows, or the bash shell from Mac/Linux.
This one is good because you can set up schedule that would backup weekly, daily, or biweekly. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.idea.backup.smscontacts
> Install Super Backup & restore app and go ahead!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.idea.backup.smscontacts
Then just transfer everything to an external SD card or computer.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.idea.backup.smscontacts
Always used this and always did the job with reliability.
I have used Super Backup & Restore since I had my Samsung S2. Still got SMS's from 2012 on my new phone
What device are you using ?
If your phone was rooted , It is possible that some app installed & it might be hidden. ( Generally it will show up in installed app or system app, but with different name ,so that users don't know which one is it.)
If you are not rooted , other chance is that app tried to install & root your device. ( Which i highly doubt of ) I don't think app installation process was completed , because install from unknown sources was blocked. So you are safe.
What phone are you using ? Which android version ? Because some manufacturers has their own PC suite softwares for back up. For example Samsung smart switch.
You can also backup using this method. [ REMOVE SD CARD WHEN YOU ARE PERFORMING FACTORY RESET , OTHERWISE IT WILL ALSO REMOVE DATA FROM SD CARD. ]
Also make sure your contacts are synced with your Google account. Go to https://contacts.google.com , log in with your google account. You can see all your contacts there.
Phone settings - go to settings > backup & reset > under Google backup & reset make sure 'backup my data' is on & your account is selected.
games data & app data - some games sync progress with google account , so you don't need to worry about it. Apps like WhatsApp has option to backup chats to google drive , use that if you need it. You will loose app data for other installed apps that Don't back up to cloud.
Photos, Videos, music - for camera photos & videos connect your phone to PC. manually copy dcim folder to your PC. For other downloaded video & photo files ,songs go through each folder & copy files that you need. Also copy your important files from download folder. ( DO NOT BACKUP ANY APK FILE )
Alternatives :
GCloud - only Backup contacts , call history , messages , device settings , documents . Because it has only 1 GB of space. Although you can get more space by inviting your friends. Use this code: 08F61B at signup to get 200MB extra.
syncdroid - for photos , videos http://www.sync-droid.com
-backup songs & other important files manually by exploring each folder.
What phone are you using ? Which android version ? Because some manufacturers has their own PC suite softwares for back up. For example Samsung smart switch.
Some chinese UIs have an option to backup app data. For example emui from huwaei & miui from Xiaomi. For other devices , There is no reliable option to backup app data of user without root.
If you need to backup other things from old phone , here are some solutiona.
Method - 1 [Superbackup/GCloud + Manual backup ]
Also make sure your contacts are synced with your Google account. Go to https://contacts.google.com , log in with your google account. You can see all your contacts there.
Phone settings - go to settings > backup & reset > under Google backup & reset make sure 'backup my data' is on & your account is selected.
games data & app data - some games sync progress with google account , so you don't need to worry about it. Apps like WhatsApp has option to backup chats to google drive , use that if you need it. You will loose app data for other installed apps that Don't back up to cloud.
Photos, Videos, music, documents- for camera photos & videos connect your phone to PC. manually copy dcim folder to your PC. For other downloaded video & photo files ,songs go through each folder & copy files that you need. Also copy your important files from download folder.
Alternatives :
Method - 2 : [superbackup + syncdroid] Backup Software -
syncdroid - for photos , videos http://www.sync-droid.com
It doesn't have an option to backup documents file. Backup other important documents files manually by exploring each folder.
I am using this a long time now. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.idea.backup.smscontacts You can backup/restore apk, sms, contacts, call log
Not perfect, but I use this
Super Back Up And Restore can back up your messages to an XML file. The messages can be restored from that file.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.idea.backup.smscontacts but TB still does the job...
Free apps are hit or miss
Not sure because I have 3 Gmail accounts on my phone . And somefree were not listed.
That's why
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.idea.backup.smscontacts
Then copy that over to pc
You can use Super Backup. After backing up messages , copy the file to PC.(or save it to your google drive).
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.idea.backup.smscontacts
App Setting: Not Possible
Oh. But it requires root, right? And any idea about Super Backup & Restore?
The finished product. A word cloud, presented as a framed poster for my SO. It contains all the words, sizes relative to their frequency, from all the texts she sent to me over the first three years of our relationship.
I removed a lot of the boring words, but found that keeping simple common words like "you" and "me" made for a cute picture. The arrangement of the words inside the heart shape is totally random and made for some fun coincidences. You can see she talks about "work", "fun", and "puppy" a lot to name a few and rarely uses the word "spreadsheet." "Math" is a big word here, but mostly because she enjoyed talking about how much she hates math.
Included in the album is some data I collected on the frequency of specific words over certain time periods and will explain some things like why we talk about "pie" or "boost" so often. Hint: It has nothing to do with pie or turbo pressure. I also used the data to determine if there is a time of week/day she loves me more than others, or if the amount of love present in the relationship has been consistent over time (it was not, but in a good way). Most interesting is to see the Love Level or number of times she said "i love you" compared to the number of texts sent. In the middle of our relationship, we were both busy graduating college and did not spend as much time talking about love. No we have almost returned to the original love frequency as the beginning of the relationship.
I'm sorry, we don't use emojis often enough to provide any data on that.
How to do your own analysis (I am not the author on the following website):http://www.clearlyandsimply.com/clearly_and_simply/2015/03/word-clouds-with-tableau.html
Send and Receive text messages
Export messages from phone as XML via an app like this:https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.idea.backup.smscontacts&hl=en
Import XML as CSV and seperate Text from XML data
Paste Plain Text data to Word file
Import Word file to Excel VB text splitter like this one: http://www.clearlyandsimply.com/clearly_and_simply/2015/03/the-implementation-of-word-clouds-with-excel.html
