My husband and I used an app to help agree on a name. It's been too long and I don't remember which one, but I searched the app store for "baby name partner app" and a bunch of viable options come up. Like this one.
The way it works is you swipe through a list of names, select ones you'd consider, and the app would help you find ones you agree on with your partner who's going through the same process. I found it helped make it less personal.
I don't think he was looking for parenting advice, he has a care plan in place and wanted recommendations on how to use Google to help! There are plenty of reasons (medically, personal preference, to beat 'the blur') to record when your baby eats, sleeps, and poops.
We used Feed Baby and it worked very well for us.
It doesn't have google home integration, but idk if you want to be talking to your home at 4am when your baby is refusing to fall asleep!
You've got this!
This baby tracker app helped DH and I a lot. Two people can have it on their phones and it syncs between you.
I'm using Feed Baby. It tracks everything, feeds (it starts a timer, which if you're nursing you can time each breast), pumps, diapers, medication, growth(height, weight, head which is plotted on a graph) and baths. You can set alarms to let you know when 3 hours have passed since the last feed (or whatever)
I love it for the widgets of which there are a ton. I have one that is a toolbar with all the tracking options, and then I'm using 3 that show me the last feed time/duration/amount, the last time I pumped (duration/amount), and today's diapers.
There is a free and a pro version. The pro version unlocks all the widgets. If you use the free trial, you can use the widgets but then they stop working after a week or so. It's $5, but you can sync between two phones (you'd have to buy twice) and it also allows you to track multiple children.
First of all, Congratulations! I am not sure this is necessarily what you are asking for, but I can share an app that was really helpful when I (Dad) had my child.
One very important role for a Dad (in my opinion) when your child is born (and when Mom is exhausted and sleep deprived from nursing), is to take the responsibility to keep track of everything that is happening with your baby. When was the last feeding? Which boob? How long was the baby feeding on that boob? How long since the last pee and poop? last diaper change? last bath? etc. I used this app to make it easy: Feed Baby. My wife and I created a profile to have it synced with our phones. It also gave helpful reminders/warnings if it seems like it has been too long since an event has last been updated. Tracking everything also makes it super helpful when you are going to see the pediatrician and they ask how all those things (feeding, pee, poops, etc) are going. I literally would just hand my phone to the pediatrician so they could review the history.
Hope that helps. Good luck to you man!
We liked Feed Baby. Syncs to iOS too. Pricey though.

As an FYI. We didn't do any of this for our second kid.
Mild contractions, the ones that are 15-20 minutes apart, can fill a period anywhere from 8 to 12 hours on average. This is early labor and you aren't rushing to the hospital yet. You have some time to get home at this point. (I personally wouldn't use up the whole 8-12 hours to get home, but I also wouldn't stress as I am on my way.)
When contractions are 3-5 minutes apart and lasting 45-60 seconds, you are in active labor and should get to the hospital. Active labor can last 3-5 hours, so don't drive crazy now, but do drive to the hospital.
Transition phase is last. Contractions are 60-90 seconds long with no more than 2 minutes in between. You should be at the hospital by now.
Disclaimer that no two births are exactly the same, and your wife may slip between these phases more quickly than average. Get a contraction timer to take some of the guesswork out of things.
Try using the baby stats app, https://assistant.google.com/services/a/uid/0000003cad819089
You can use Google Assistant to add a wet or poopy diaper (among other things) and it will keep all the stats for you. It's not the prettiest app but it is functional.
My wife and I tried it and it was alright, but we ended up using the (not Google Assistant compatible, just Android/iPhone) app called feed baby, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=au.com.penguinapps.android.babyfeeding.client.android Which is a fantastic app and very helpful to any parents of a newborn and up. If only it had the Google Assistant integration, it would be perfect and complete.
It's not exactly what you're asking for but I use this app for tracking my accidents, it's not as babyish as I'd want but it's definitely a step up from excel!
I'm a dad of 7 month old girls. There's some great apps for the phone that will help you keep track of stuff. At first we were logging every feed (and how much they ate), every diaper change, every vitamin D drop given, etc, but these days we just log the essentials like milestones, weight and height, and vaccinations. If you're worried that you won't be able to keep track, it's a great tool. My wife and I have Android phones and we use Baby Connect. We're both able to access update the logs for the twins.
Of course, you could just keep a log, but if you find you're on your phone a lot anyway, then why not use an app?
Good luck!
This is the one we use too for all the feeding and diaper changes. As well as growth and temperature/medicine.
It has a pretty good widget if you are on Android
Play store link.

And then we use huckleberry exclusively for naps and sleep.
Both of them have a sync feature which was super important to us.
I'll second the white noise suggestion, and add another suggestion. Baby Tracker to keep track of when the baby last ate, slept, etc. There are plenty of apps that do this, but what I like about this one is that it syncs; it can be viewed/updated by the Android or iOS app.
They have awesome apps! I tried to use paper and pen but could never seem to find it at 3 am, and everything is worse at 3 am.
This is the one I use https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=droso.application.nursing
It's so handy. You can start and stop feedings and pumping from your lock screen, track diapers and sleep and measurements and so on.
We started with an Itzbeen and used it for the first couple months, then my wife and I both got android phones to replace our blackberries and we dropped it in favour of the Baby Connect app.
It lets us track and record everything we could ever think of and our favourite part is that it all syncs between our phones so we always have an updated account of what's going on.
I used the Baby Center app to create mine for free. You just click on what preferences you have and it will export it to a PDF. Super simple
Edit: here's the link to the app in Google Play store
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.babycenter.pregnancytracker
We used Baby Daybook, it was killer, had sharing and tracked everything quick and easy.
By the sounds of it, Baby Tracker does all those things apart from Alexa integration and is also free (android - not sure if it's on ios).
(/u/prestigewombat)
This app was such a huge help with our first. The nurses at the hospital gave us a sheet of paper to track all of our baby's feeding and bathroom instances and times right after I gave birth, and we forgot half the time to write it down. This app was SUPER helpful and we set up the paid version (Pro) on both my husband and I's phones.
It's also nice for tracking weight, height, head measurements, and other details at all of her doctor's appointments. I still use it (though not as frequently) to date.
I always highly recommend it to my friends with new babies, since it's been such a great tracker.
Feed Baby - Pro https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=au.com.penguinapps.android.babyfeeding.client.android.pro
Edit: clarification
Try Baby Tracker
I know this isn't ~~it's~~ its primary function, but it's a very versatile app. Its preferences allow you to tick on/off options you don't want to see and the Other section can be customized so you can add a new piece of data you'd like to track. It has cloud synchronization so you and whoever else uses it, can log in once (with the same account) and it updates everyone's changes in real-time (or moments after).
You can Review the days for all data logged that particular day, or tap icons at the bottom (feeds, diapers, other, etc) to see all entries of a certain type for a specific day, or all time if you toggle the Daily On/Off button
and it has a chart (I think this may be a paid feature, but we bought it) that averages out your data: weekly, monthly, last 7, and last 30 days.
I personally love this app, and even though we are no longer tracking feedings/diapers/sleep, we still use it for things like temperatures, medication dispensing, shots, etc.
Edit: You could even use the Sleep to log daycare drop off/pickups since you tap it and it automatically logs the current time as the going to sleep (you can edit the time/date), and when you tap it again it does the same except it's for wake up. Then it shows the duration for the entry.

Good luck :)
I take it that's what you do for your day job? Is it any good? Cause personally, all the ones my actual doctors use suck. But this came about more from wanting to replace the app FeedBaby with something self-hosted as well as spending the weekend keeping track of fever temperatures and medicines administered in a Google Keep.
It's called Feed Baby Pro and it's perfect. Both parents need to buy it, but seriously, it's amazing.
For what it's worth, on Android I used Baby Daybook to track everything in the beginning (diaper changes, feeding, sleeping, medicine etc.) It's especially helpful if you have someone else helping watch the baby.
You'll be so sleep deprived that sometimes it's hard to remember how long it's been since he ate or was changed or whatever, so you glance at the app and say "oh, he hasn't eaten in 2 hours, no wonder he's being a shit."
The beauty is if you keep up with it long enough you get some cool charts and data to look through after a while.
For pictures, just use Google Photos. It's the easiest way to catalog everything and have them be instantly shared with whoever you want without having to do it individually each time. Create a baby shared album, add the people you want to be able to see it, then just put the pictures you take in that album if you want them "public"
I used Baby Daybook and liked it a lot.
I found it very useful to track things, especially at the beginning. Sometimes I couldn't remember how often I was up at night without a record. It's also really useful for sleep because we watched 'awake' intervals more than focusing on a schedule, and this way I did not have to engage my brain when trying to remember when he woke up last.
Check out the free app Baby Daybook, let's you track all sorts of things. And, if you and your partner are on different schedules helps you figure out how much sleep they have had while you were away / asleep, bottles, diaper changes, etc. My wife and I love it!

We use Feed Baby. It tracks absolutely everything about your baby. Breastfeeding, Bottles, Diapers, sleeps, anything. And it syncs between any iPhone and Android too.
I think Android is here …. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=au.com.penguinapps.android.babyfeeding.client.android

Its really useful once the child is born. You are seriously sleep deprived and this can help with knowing last feed, change etc. You wont have to wake your significant other to ask.
Day one out of the hospital, if I recall. Everything about a baby is repetition and routine. Bed time is bath + settle down time (mommy baby snuggles, usually) + nursing/bottle + storytime. Each meal is the same, as best as possible, each day. It's super cliche to say it, but with a kid, failing to plan really is planning to fail.
Your wife isn't entirely wrong (and you should just tell her she's right anyways), just know that the longer you guys take to get the baby into a schedule, the tougher it is to break what has essentially become the baby's schedule.
BabyCenter is a pretty good resource on how to start a schedule. Let your wife be a mom for a little while, then when she's on her second week of sleep deprivation (because you've probably gone back to work by now), clue her in to this kind of information - http://www.babycenter.com/0_the-basics-of-baby-schedules-why-when-and-how-to-start-a-rou_3658352.bc
Help her out with anything you can do, because remember you can do everything but stick your nipple in the baby's mouth and expect milk to come out of it.
Oh, and comfort the shit out of her the first time you guys let him/her cry it out, if that's something you're going to do. 3 minutes will seem like 30, and you'll both probably be a mess.
I'd also recommend tracking...everything. We used an app on Android called Baby Connect to track bathroom stuff and every ounce that came out of Mom and into baby (as best as you can).
Edit: Also tracks sleep. I can actually go back and see all of that information.
I've been using Baby Daybook. You can track everything you do for baby, and then look at statistics and a timeline. The breastfeeding tracker is quite good, has a start and stop function, basically like a timer and you can select left or right, and you can add any notes to each individual task.
There is an android app that let you create a list of the names that you like, and then let you compare that list with a similar one created by your husband.
The app is called Baby Name Together. It helped us a lot :-)
We started with huckleberry but switched to Baby day book. It works well if you're coordinating with two people, because sync is excellent.
Baby Daybook is what I use. I got it with a one time fee but I think they've moved to a subscription service. Tracks all sorts of things and gives you graphs and stats

Being a parent is a terrifying, even with support. As cliche as it sounds, you kind of figure it out as you go. For my wife and I, the baby tracker app is a life saver (iOS version and Andriod version) For context, I have severe adhd and I suspect my wife does as well. We lived off that tracker app for a little over the first year. Plus it's helpful to drs since you can export the data if needed.
Anyway, happy endings are over rated. Life isn't meant to be lived in once constant state, it's meant to flow. Some days will be better, some worse. Being happy is great, and better than being sad but both are emotions that are fleeting. Enjoy the happy moments (there will be plenty, trust me) even if it's just the goofy faces they make when pooping. Remember the not so happy moments, those will help you appreciate the in between moments a lot more. Remember it's okay to feel what you're feeling. Recognize those emotions, but don't let them consume you.
A big part of the reason I decided to finally seek a diagnosis and treatment for my adhd is cause I have a kid and another on the way. I know there are groups out there that you can join to help support you, even if it's just emotional support (which can snd does count for a lot IME). All we can do is try our best with kids. Some days our best won't be much unfortunately, but a bad day doesn't define you as a parent. You got this.
We still track wets and dirties- it helps because it's hard to remember sometimes when baby last pooped! We don't measure the size at all though, just that it was a nappy change (helps figure out how long ago the last change was too)
I time feeds still but don't really need to.
We use baby tracker - there are a couple with this name. - we like this one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nighp.babytracker_android
I didn't record sleep until a bit later when it made a bit more sense to- helps keep track of wake windows.
Try the baby name together app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.BabyName.start
Let's you each rate names (either yes or no) and then you can compare your lists. Force him to give you some names he actually likes.
This one is the one we use, on suggestion from another couple. I can't claim to have surveyed all the ones out there but I like this one so far. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nighp.babytracker_android
I know this isn't what you were asking but I found this app incredibly helpful when my son was born to track feeding, weight, temp, med administration, ect. It's available on iOS as well and can share data across devices. Baby Tracker me and my wife used it for the first year. Also 1 sec everyday app is a fun thing to start. I didn't start using it until my son was several months old, and always wished I knew about it when he was a newborn. You'll take tons of pictures, and video anyway, but it's a great way make you take some every single day. You have no idea how quickly they grow, and change and my only regret is not capturing it all
Me and my partner just had our first born 3 months ago, in the slight gap between the lockdowns. It's been tough as we have practically been inside since March. At first I was terrified to the world I was bringing my son into, what a terrible time but after living through it abit it has been a blessing in disguise.
Both our place of business is shut down so financially tough but I have got to be home for my sons, first sounds, first smiles, and all the milestones you don't get to enjoy as life usually gets in the way.
Now more than ever I appreciate the effort to keep love ones safe and the world being in complete shambles motivates me to raise a child who will challenged things and build a better more sustainable future. The leader that the world of tomorrow needs.
Children change your life but its important to not lose you own mental and physical well-being in the process. If important to try and remain active as best you can as these seems to be a big part of you life, there is plenty of exercises you can do at home with minimal equipment, but your right specific strength does get hard. Don't lose hope. It's more important than every to maintain that grind, eat healthy, exercise, sleep, repeat as best you can. Fathers are cool but as a mothers your really the most important person it you childs life and soon have your own little workout partner to share the fitness journey with.
Definitely a challenging time but the reward is soo soo worth it.
My partner recommended the babycentre app if you have any questions or concerns or just want to start a discussion with other mothers https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.babycenter.pregnancytracker&hl=en
My wife used Feed Baby for our first daughter back in 2015. We didn't use it for 2nd baby because tracking data wasn't worth the time.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=au.com.penguinapps.android.babyfeeding.client.android
How is it?
I'm really into life logging and if I ever have a kid, it's something I would want to do with them too.
Just to throw another suggestion out there for tracking your baby:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nighp.babytracker_android
Set up a sync group with one of your email accounts and your set.
We use baby daybook
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.drillyapps.babydaybook
I use it on my android phone and its great with the sticky notifications. My husband uses the beta version on his iphone, it syncs but sometimes not right away.
P.s The back story of this is that this came about more from wanting to replace the app FeedBaby with something self-hosted as well as spending the weekend keeping track of fever temperatures and medicines administered in a Google Keep. I've been setting up a lot of self-hosted services lately and would love to have something for the family medical records behind my own firewall.
If you use disposable diapers, buy in bulk when on sale. I got 6 months of diapers for under 100 bucks because there was a crazy deal at Costco with Google Express. Diapers on average cost 600-800 for a year.
Buy Amazon warehouse stuff if you can't find it used on Craigslist. Banged up boxes or a scratch on the baby monitor really don't matter.
Open a 529.
I you need child care, get family who is willing and able first. Second choice is day care. Most expensive is nanny. In LA you would be looking at minimum 20 dollars per hr with a minimum 40hr week, 2 week vacation paid. And that is all post tax money....
Splurge a little on stuff that keeps you sane. If you need a swing to keep your baby asleep during day naps... Then buy a swing! 100 dollars isn't worth your sanity.
Baby books are cheap at Costco and sometimes at Ross. We asked for a baby book instead of a card if anyone wanted to get us one for our baby shower. People were more than happy to play along.
If your post tax income is more than your nanny/child care sitch, remember that it is worth it for you to work and someone else to watch the baby.
Take lots of photos. I have an 8 month old. It is hard work and very tiring, but it's been the best time of my life.
Consider free apps like tiny beans to share photos with family easily. Or a baby tracker app to make diapers and feeding and pumping easier to track important details. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nighp.babytracker_android
Good luck and have fun!
I've used Feed Baby with my kids. I'm not going to say I love it, but it does a decent job syncing and works fine, has a dark mode.
This is the one I use and I LOVE it! It tracks left vs right, has widgets with timers, you can also track formula and solid food. It also tracks physical development. Pumping....you name it, this app tracks it! It also shows daily timelines and trends for all categories.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=droso.application.nursing
Glow Nuture is pretty neutral since it has an option for you to be invited by your partner and both of you have access to the same data. It's got the same stuff as Baby Bump Pro with the "your baby is this big" comparisons, articles and tips on a week-by-week basis, that sort of thing.
The big difference is it allows you to track lots of things (sleep, exercise, vitamins, water, mood, symptoms, etc.) and then gives insights based on those. The Premium mode gives access to more and more personalized insights, but the basic ones looked pretty good from my playing around with it.

This is the app I use to keep track of everything. The only thing it doesn't have is an alarm, but it does tell you how long it's been between feeds, pumping, diaper changes, etc.
We've been using Feed Baby for the past 11 months and it's been great. Linkme: Feed Baby
Edit: There's also a free version but I think if you need multiple kids the you'll have to go with pro. Feed Baby Lite
One of the features I love is the device syncing.
