It's 'cause the internet has shifted the capacity of our brains away from deep focus and towards shallow multitasking. It's why we do shit like close Reddit on our computers then pull out our phones and open Reddit again without thinking about it. If you're really curious to learn more about it, try to stay focused long enough and read The Shallows; If you're really interested in pushing back then look into meditation.
No way am I giving direct links, but someone with enough bitcoin and dedication could find their way through the Tor darkweb and hire a hitman. Last I checked it ran $10k-$100k per hit depending on who you go to and how hard the job is.
Actually, kind of.
This is the reason behind the military's obsession with made beds.
>If you make your bed every morning you will have accomplished the first task of the day. It will give you a small sense of pride and it will encourage you to do another task and another and another.
>By the end of the day, that one task completed will have turned into many tasks completed. Making your bed will also reinforce the fact that little things in life matter.
I'll put very small, almost meaning jobs on my to-do list, and sometimes that is enough to kick my ass into gear for the bigger jobs I have to do.
But your milage may vary.
Okay, so I've seen this meme a couple of times and everyone agree that this happens, but no one seems to have an answer. I recently read a book that got me interested in Adler's Psychology and it has an interesting answer to this phenomenon.
While Freud says that the reason you have anxiety is because you were bullied, weren't love by your parents or some other answer, Adler says that you create anxiety as a way to reach a present goal. For example, if you have anxiety about work, Adler's philosophy would say that you are creating a state of anxiety in your work in order to fulfill some goal, such as getting sympathy from a spouse, punishing a co-worker with guilt, or just giving yourself a reason to be sorry for yourself.
Now, this first time I heard this, this seemed like bullshit and just another excuse to blame myself. Then I noticed something... I would have an issue with my work life that I would have some anxiety about. Then, the issue at work would resolve itself and I would feel better, but then within a day, I would be focused on some issue in my family life or personal life that would cause me anxiety. I started realizing that what was consistent was not the problems, but the need to be anxious about something. I've experienced times in my life where everything was going great and OP's situation of sudden anxiety would just hit, which makes no sense unless I was manifesting the anxiety to reach some goal.
If you're interested in this, I would recommend "The Courage To Be Disliked". At the very least, if you're trying to improve your mental health, this might give you another way of looking at your problems.
I've actually been doing a really good job at keeping up with my hobbies since the new year and I'm super proud of myself. I'm currently working on a DIY miniature greenhouse (a link to purchase from amazon if anyone is interested) and it has been so. much. fun. I think for me, doing little tiny detailed work like miniatures helps to focus my ever-running brain. I put on a podcast (usually Trixie and Katya's, but whatever works), get a glass of wine... I have literally lost entire afternoons and evenings to this and it's the best feeling!
I want to move on to a full Victorian dollhouse like the one my grandfather made for me next. After a long day of work, it feels really nice to center myself and actually make something with my hands. If you're struggling to pick up a hobby, I highly recommend buying a craft you liked to do when you were a kid. Shrinky Dinks reinvigorated my crafting self care status earlier this year, I bet yours will too!
There are many different ones so you can find one to fit your needs, I use Relay for Reddit and it's my favorite out of all the ones I've tried
Play store link: Relay for reddit
So I usually save a lot of posts from this sub, the other 2meirl42meirl and depression. Recently I lost all of them but I've managed to get most of them using ripme.
I'm still missing one which had some nice comments. It was a picture with some text suggesting they want to cuddle? I can't remember which sub exactly it was from, if someone finds that post link me pls.
PS: I was too shy to ask from my main account
7 cups of tea is a good place to talk to somebody that will listen to you.
It's not strictly for suicide prevention but just a place to talk to a stranger that will listen and often help. I can't count the number of times it has helped me and it would be great if it helps someone else.
If you use Android, the Slide for Reddit app can upload straight to imgur and paste the link into your comment (or post) for you. I imagine other apps can, too, but I can't say for sure.
Also, don't get me wrong, I hate imgur as much as the next guy. A once useful site had to sellout to stay alive and it shows. I don't blame the original creators for doing so, it just sucks for all of us. Fortunately, I never actually have to visit the site. :D
In theory, at some point, you should be able to upload images to Reddit easily, but I don't know when that's supposed to happen.
Depression: “a mental condition characterized by feelings of severe despondency and dejection, typically also with feelings of inadequacy and guilt, often accompanied by lack of energy and disturbance of appetite and sleep.”
This mental condition isn’t always permanent. It can be temporary and overcome even without medication. Having periods of depression doesn’t mean you have MDD, but you still have depression.
“More than just a bout of the blues, depression isn't a weakness and you can't simply "snap out" of it. Depression may require long-term treatment.” - https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/depression/symptoms-causes/syc-20356007 (Idk how to do links lol)
In this context they are speaking about Major Depressive Disorder, which is what I think you are speaking about as well. This is a mental disorder and not a condition. This sticks with you usually throughout your life, and is fairly consistent. This isn’t something that fixing your outside or external situations can fix. MDD is a really hard and scary condition because of how it consumes the person. This is very much different than the depression condition (which again is usually temporary and due to an external circumstance) in that, this is much more intense, much longer, and much harder to “recover” from. Tho you can’t really recover, only mitigate.
This is great advice.
I don't put a ton of effort into finishing books anymore. I'm still several hundred pages into maybe a dozen books I haven't bothered getting back to. But by not caring so much about completion I've definitely read more voraciously in the last year than at any point in my life.
I find that listening to books in the car, during breakfast, on break at work (hell, even at work if your job allows) gets you more in the mood to read more on the page. librivox is great, as is audible for those that don't mind the cost.
Yesterday I couldn't get in the mood to open Snow Crash or Goedel Escher Bach or Philosophy in the Bedroom, which are all very good and radically different, but I opened up Disgrace by Coetzee, which I read years ago and remembered really liking.
On page 4 I came across this line which really struck me.
His own opinion, which he does not air, is that the origins of speech lie in song, and the origins of song in the need to fill out with sound the overlarge and rather empty human soul.
Its use as a depression treatment is still in the early stages but in some people it appears to be extremely effective. It takes effect almost immediately with few negative side effects.
It should be noted that the doses used in these treatments are a fraction of the doses taken by people who use ketamine recreationally. Don't try to self medicate using ketamine.
rock's a popular genre, so unless you live in the middle of buttfuck nowhere, there'll probably be more than one. That said, if there's not, i'd recommend listening to this station, as they play a lot of different artists. It's stationed in Hamilton, Ontario, but it does cover mostly American news.
/u/Fake_Disguise, I posted this above for OP, but want to make sure you see it too!
Look them up on Psychology Today's website, read a bit about them, check out their website if they have one. If you go and don't feel like it's a good fit, you can always look for another one.
This article was a huge help for me, and gave me the info I needed to finally seek out a therapist. https://lifehacker.com/5874359/how-do-i-select-a-therapist-or-counselor

https://www.huffpost.com/entry/arousal-disgust-sex-study_n_1877743
Basically sex is objectively yucky, and it was even yuckier before modern hygiene. So evolution programmed us to turn off our usual disgust reflex when we’re horny, otherwise we’d never reproduce. Once the act is over, disgust returns to its normal levels.
It feels like the harder you try to ignore it the more intense it all gets! The ONLY thing that's ever come close to blocking the noise for me is custom generated noise machines. I use this one here with a few others layered over it. IDK if it can help you but I looked for something like this for years before I stumbled across these. It definitely helps take the edge off.
a game where you try to save a world where you came too late. [link]
the game, art and soundtracks are really good. worth every cent for the albums too
It's a torrent-based free steaming service for Netflix and other movies, series, and anime available for Android, Windows, OSX, Linus and iOS. Here's the download page.
If you decide to try it out, it will notify you to use its paid VPN service but you can just ignore that (unless you want to support the service), as there are other, probably better and definitely cheaper alternatives out there.
Think they sell those on Amazon? I'd love to put my student discounted Prime account to good use.
Edit: well I'll be darned..
I struggled with this since my senior year of high school (I'm now working after college).
I broke the cycle this year and now wake up at 7:30 AM each morning. It was really 2 problems. The first, getting to sleep. The second, getting my ass out of bed.
To fall asleep, I picked up some sleep-eze. I had tried melatonin, but it didn't have any effect on me, but I wasn't willing to cross over to the prescription medication. The pharmacist said to take Sleep-eze 1-hour before bed, and, surprisingly, it worked.
For step 2, I got an alarm that can only be shut off by taking a photo; in my case, one of my coffee maker in the other room. The alarm I used (Alarmy) doesn't have a sleep setting unless enabled, can't be shut off or uninstalled until you take that photo. By the time I snap the photo, the hassle of getting up and walking around has made me relatively alert and able to start my day, which typically involved brewing a pot of coffee and reading/catching up on news before work.
I'll also just add that once you've used Sleep-eze a few times, you can and ought to stop using it. Your days will be longer, and you'll naturally be more tired come bedtime. Do not keep using it for an extended period and risk a dependency. It's an aid. Treat it as such.
I know the post is hours old and it's not likely many people will see this comment. But this advice would have changed my life in college and the early days of my career.
Google says, the toy is literally called "Flying Orb ball" or some iteration of it. Found it on Amazon
You should buy a maternity pillow. I've got like half a bed of pillows of various sizes and they have all been replaced by a maternity pillow. When I say replaced they're still sitting on the bed, they just get to watch me sleep with my maternity pillow.
It's amazing.
I can also recommend The Narcissistic Family, which helped me understand exactly OP's point for the first time, extremely helpful.
One of my doctors who is not my psychiatrist literally just recommended the book Will I Ever Be Good Enough? to me a couple weeks ago which is a book about healing the wounds of having a narcissistic mother. I guess I really should give it a read.
That's basically the premise of this book. Take those negative thoughts about yourself and throw them away. Seems like some of us should ask a therapist about these thoughts.
Fuck NordVPN.
Their app stops (stopped?) working if you block Google Analytics (the irony)
They quietly changed their 0 Log policy to "actually.. we might", and take away features if you turn of the pretty early auto renew
And for anyone who wants to read the webcomic where this came from, just click right here to read from the 1st chapter. I highly recommend reading it, though be aware it is 18+.

The graph plots were done on Desmos, after generating the graphs I used the Snip & Sketch tool that was built into Windows to clip them, copy-pasted them into Photoshop, then finally did the typing and formatting there.
Not even close. It's actually 47%.
Why would you post this comment? It takes one three-word google search to check this information? Did you assume it was 90% and posted it as fact? Did you just feel like you knew how much of reddit is American? I am genuinely confused why you thought it was a good idea to make this statement.
I did this until high school. Then I found a cure that worked for me: notebooks with pockets. Like these. One notebook per class, shove your papers in the notebook at the end of class, boom you’re organized by class. And when it gets full, dump the old stuff you never even needed to hold onto. I was fuckin valedictorian, and you can too with the power of pocket notebooks.
Probably not what you asked for exactly, but here's a download link. I actually deleted it a little while ago to try and start over, but just ended up doing it all over again, so that sucked.
Also the 'Other' folder has like 283 bookmarks just because I couldn't be bothered to actually open them up.
There's a good one on Amazon I just ordered, the price is really good for the components and it's already built. It's a perfect computer if you wanna run your games in 1080p. Here's the beast

Victim Mentality - check
In seriousness though, I've struggled with depression plenty and am very sympathetic to anyone else going through the same thing, but it doesn't mean there aren't behaviors you're doing that exacerbate the problem. I know I've been guilty of it myself.
I really enjoyed the book How to Be Miserable: 40 Strategies You Already Use for this reason.
Randy Paterson is a psychologist who works with people with clinical depression. He does an exercise where he asks his patients to describe their average day. Then he asks (and I'm paraphrasing, of course), "Forget for a minute any past trauma or chemical imbalances that lead you to this point. If you took an average person and had them live the way you live (ie, not working out, spending all day in front of screens, poor sleep habits, isolation, etc), how do you think they'd feel?" The usual response is, "I think they'd be miserable and depressed." "Ok, so let's work on changing some of those behaviors as well while we're tackling the major issues in your life."
Hope I'm not coming off as patronizing here. I'm just a guy who has struggled as well and has tried just about everything (therapy, meds, etc) to help break through it and found some helpful insights in this book. Hope it helps you too.
I just want to throw this out there for people who have been accused of being “too clingy.” It was probably coming from someone who has an “Avoidant” attachment type whereas you likely have an “Anxious” attachment type. It’s okay to be an “Anxious” attachment type and you should avoid being in relationships with “Avoidant“ people and seek relationships with “Secure” attachment types.
”Secure” attachment types will help you feel less anxious about wanting to be loved. You can learn more By reading the book, “Attached.”
jomney sun is incredible.
anyone struggling with depression, i highly recommend his picture book everyone's an aliebn when you're an aliebn too
it takes about 30 minutes to read all of it and frames the pain of existence beautifully and adorably.

Check out this book Designing Your Life - its about applying design thinking principles to figuring out not just your job/career path, but what you value for fun, family, health, etc. It's a great starting place to figuring out how to live and it really helped me out a lot. You don't even need to read the whole thing if reading is not your thing, just a couple chapters will provide you with actionable exercises that will get you going.
Oh wow that's a cool nephew you got there! Hmmm I'm not sure! (Love Immigraniada!) I'm not sure if you're in the U.S. but I found it on Amazon!
It doesn't seem to be too much. I live in California so I have an Amoeba record store at my disposal and they had, from what I remember, almost every physical GB CD and Gypsy Punks on vinyl! So that's something to consider if you live near or plan to visit Cali!

TOR is totally fine for Most stuff, the Main weakness is its that its known and thats its free, alot of websites and countrys Block you from Access with Tor, and unlike a paid provider Like ExpressVPN, which are also quite big, TOR cant afford to make Sure they have functioning Servers everywhere. Also, again because of the cost of Servers, its slow. You can expect an almost normal experience with an vpn in Terms of Speed, while you definitly need to wait for the Websites to load for a while with TOR. Id recommend Always using TOR when Speed isnt relevant for you, but the safest Option is logically both, since VPN has a weakness called VPN Providers, those could potentially secretly steal your Data, especially If forced too by an law.
I have a few different smaller ones now that i got recently but this is the big one i have had first for years and is the primary one for hugging, it was a gift from family a few years ago

Literally seen it help stop addicts cold by elevating naturally the dopamine levels.
It works wonders for bipolar and low dopamine levels.
Brings to a halt that desperate search to think clearly and all the binging behaviors stopped in days.
Bringing back up the dopamine naturally is the way to go. Stay on your meds, of course lol.
But it’s freaking amazing and several people I know have used it for years now.
