Those have to be recent, with the 'pig hat' (Tombrero?) as a card.
Wait. Wait wait wait.
I just looked up this cardgame.

Notice the logo on the board. Notice the company name? Is... is that intentional? That's hilarious. Look at the lower-right of the board, and read it.
The Dragon Quest Metallic Monsters Gallery collection is officially licensed by Square Enix. They're floating all over the place - Amazon, Ebay, and when in Japan they're in the stores too.
Man, Dai no Daibouken is one of my all-time favorite shonen series. IMO it actually exceeds Dragonball when it comes to how satisfying the overall arc of the series is.
For those unfamiliar, you can read it over on Mangadex if you're interested.
I got my copy off Play-Asia originally that supports English like OP did. Preordered it when announced lol :) That said, you can also find it on Amazon as well

Here's what I'd say:
My favorite DQ game is probably still part 3, and of the NES and gbc versions I've played I liked the gbc version better. This can only be played on a Gameboy Color or Gameboy Advance / SP though (backwards compatible w/ the gbc cart). You can also play the gbc remakes of DQ1 & 2 on this, though the games have been slightly "dumbed down" and made easier. For part 2 this is probably a good thing since the NES version is hard as hell. If you do decide to grab a GBA SP I would highly recommend looking into an AGS-101 model which has a backlight and is superior to the normal model. The graphics really pop!
Here is the 101 model that I bought from Amazon (my review is even on here). The Onyx / black one wasn't normally available like this, it's a regular SP shell with the guts of a 101. That being said, it looks and plays perfectly:
The other 101 that I've seen for sale before is a light blue metallic color which I didn't like as much.
The games you can play on the DS are many: 4, 5, 6, & 9. This is the only way to play part 9 that I know of. Like part 3 you can form a team of different classes however you want which is something that I personally like. The class system is really well-done. Also the post game is incredible and virtually endless. My save file on DQ9 is approx. 600 hours.
Now all of these DS games can of course be played on a 3DS, which opens you up to the remakes of DQ7 and DQ8. DQ7 is beloved by many here, but I never cared for it (though I gave it LOTS of plays because I really wanted to.) The 3DS version of 8 however I'd consider to be the definitive version and it's excellent.
You can pre-order Dragon Quest Heroes I + II on Amazon already.
Dragon Quest Illustrations is a 240-page hardcover book, retailing for $34.99. It can be purchased from Amazon. The book was originally published in Japan in 2016.
The book contains the art of Dragon Quest illustrator, Akira Toriyama, from Dragon Quest I up through Dragon Quest Builders. It features box art, hero and monster concepts, and additional promotional illustrations from the games. There is also a fold-out timeline of the Dragon Quest game series.
I would recommend the book to anyone who is a fan of Dragon Quest and Toriyama's distinct style!
For Android, one could download OpenVPN or TunnelBear or other (free-ish) VPN app.
For Android or iOS, the alternative is to set up your router so it directly connects via VPN to Japan. This way, any device connected to the router will direct traffic through VPN. I've never done this and am far from an expert, but I've heard it's at least possible. It may involve Amazon Web Services (?) so you will have to dig a bit.
After tinkering with connections and many troubleshooting guides, I finally managed to get connected to the game on my PS4, and I thought I would share my results here in a guide for others to try!
You will need a computer with an internet connection, and a LAN cable to connect the PS4 and the PC. Before we go into the steps, on your computer, make sure you have network discovery turned on, as I was not able to get the connection working on my PS4 until I had done so.
After following these steps, your PS4 should now be using your computer's VPN connection to connect to the game! I hope this works for anyone else that tries this method as well! :)
There are additions and changes in the 3DS version which are not present in the original, particularly incredible graphical enhancements. (Comparison screen shots: http://www.gamespot.com/forums/system-wars-314159282/here-is-what-dragon-quest-vii-3ds-looks-like-29317483/ ) True, you can purchase a used copy today on eBay for a console that was introduced in 1994, but I'd rather not pay some guy on eBay $25-100+ for their used copy if there might be an official release for the 3DS (which is the only way the franchise & companies benefit from my purchase). Until there are no longer new game releases for the 3DS, I won't settle for the old PS version.
IV has cloud saving in iOS so I imagine it'd have cloud saving in Android.
Steam is having a Pre-Order bonus as well:

There ya go.
here's a link to gamefaqs, with a shit-ton of codes for the game http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/937281-dragon-quest-ix-sentinels-of-the-starry-skies/56225652 and yes - they should have thought of this when they created the online aspects. However, as we've seen time and time again - SE has consistently dropped the ball with DQ in NA (though admittedly this is Nintendo's fault as well - why does online have to go through nintendo's servers instead of SE's?). So, are we really surprised? :P
Yeah thats what your supposed to do. DQ 1 and 2 should be played first and then you'll have the biggest impact when you play DQ 3. Definitely do that, you can buy it here or on the eShop:
Like /u/justforZenfone2, I just bought a Japanese one. I found that the Amazon price was better than those on eBay, and of the two I found, here's the one that looks nicer (to me): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/4757538944/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
AMAZON IS ALSO AT 29.99 WITH PRIME FOR DQ 8. I think they price matched the sale. Sorry I should have checked but perhaps a mod can alter the title or add flair.
DQ 7 seems out of stock at amazon / only 3rd parties at this time.
This is useful but no way I'd ever use this VPN. Yeah, maybe if you use it only for the game then go ahead, but otherwise you shouldn't trust a free one. The only way I see them earning money is by selling your data. I would advise checking out NordVPN, or surfeasy. Yes, you have to pay but they are stable and trustworthy. Also, you can always check r/vpncoupons for getting a discount.

this is an item creation guide that tells you whats the best gear you can have at every point in the story.
I love everything about that manga. The story, the fighting, the characters, the amazing art.
Also the partnership between dai and pop.
EDIT: uh.....this may get you to focus on it more, but you'll most likely notice it, so, better to warn you. Try not to look at the image in the top of that page....it contains one hell of a spoiler.
A macro is essentially a set of commands that can be triggered in any sort of ways. You can make it do pretty much anything.
My keyboard lets me set any key to trigger a macro that can be defined in the keyboard's driver's ui so that is what I use.
If you don't have a special keyboard you could always just use something like autohotkey to do the same thing.
Simple google search found me a thread about autofire scripts for autohotkey. Haven't tested them though.
https://autohotkey.com/board/topic/64576-the-definitive-autofire-thread/
The way you'd use it is to setup the betting on the slot machine and start a first spin then start the macro and let it do its thing since the bet is kept if you just press right-click.
I also think you should start with IV. The color version of III isn't bad either, but I think your progress should be start with IV.
It really instills the feel of the series in you.
However, IX is another great one to start with! It is very much seperate from the rest of the series, but is filled to the brim with everything that makes DQ fun. I really got into DQ after playing 4 and 9.
In all honesty, you could start almost anywhere, but the IV remake is kinda like a baseline for what constitutes a DQ game.
You'll probably see a bunch of folks mention to skip VII for now, if you can even get it - It's understandable, as it can take like 100 - 300 hours to finish. I'm not even joking.
Yes, it is a Japanese only one (and likely because 7 had only just come out in English on 3ds)
Here are the play store and app store links https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.square_enix.android_googleplay.dq7j&hl=ja&gl=US
Also as a added bonus, Dragon Quest I-III can be bought imported physically here on Amazon. It has english text so your fine:
I bought these in a physical store in Japan last December 2019. I’m not sure if the link I found will help, but here you go: https://www.amazon.com/Bonus-Dragon-Quest-Tarot-Cards/dp/B06XSGCHZP. It’s way more expensive than how much i got it for originally (about $25). Maybe the hobbylink posted is better?
The copy I got a while back was from Barnes & Noble actually! Just a heads up. It’s also on Amazon.
Dragon Quest Illustrations: 30th Anniversary Edition https://www.amazon.com/dp/1974703908/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabt1_q0yRFbCTC0EG5
I was thinking about this the other day.
Dragon Quest Builders - Amazon
How the hell are you less than 3 months away from release and the "Artwork isn't final"?
I imported the Japanese copy because I honestly didn't think we'd get it here in the west, and I still plan to buy an American copy.
But for the average Joe who isn't a diehard fan, that is just off putting. They're shooting themselves in the foot.
On a side note, considering your suspicion (regardless of validity), you could always return it and buy a brand new copy on Amazon for around $24, which is a better value IMHO. :)

What you can do I guess is try to use a vpn! I used this for Animal Crossing Pocket Camp haha
The thing is that you first have to create an account on the US (in your case, in mine was UK haha) and then you install an app called TunnelBear Vpn, it's really cute and easy to use! It's for free so no worries about it since you only want it to download the game. Then turn on the vpn to some part of US and then search the game on the play store on that account you created.
Download it, don't open it. Then you turn off the vpn, be sure to switch the store to your original account and then start the game. No need to be playing with the vpn turned on or the alter account.
You will only need to do the same if the game needs to update. Hope it works for you! :3
Metal monsters gallery tend to range from around $15-$60 so that's on the larger end for around $50 https://www.amazon.co.jp/Square-Dragon-metallic-Monsters-Gallery/dp/B00HZWWVEY/
It took me a long time to decide if I wanted to start collecting these, and by that time a bunch had sold out, then price spike like you said. So now I buy whatever comes out when it comes out so I don't pay 3x later.
For some reason, the Square store are actually the last to ship most of these after they've been available from jp shops for months. He actually released toward the end of July.
I know the other two are not out yet though, I believe they're September releases.
Bought my Liquid Metal Slime ('large' version from Metal Monsters collection) from Amazon seller 'Japan FAN Store'. Was only about $40 shipped when I bought it 5 years ago, but it looks like the prices went up quite a bit. The $60 fulfilled by Amazon listing isn't too bad, since the rest will likely take longer being shipped from Japan.
FYI the Amazon app store has it for $9.99.

I played 1-5 on Android and they were all great. Android ports can sometimes be pretty terrible, but that was not the case this time.
I bought them along with a console back shell from BASSTOP on amazon. A word of warning, though; I've heard some people complain that their shells from BASSTOP had imperfections that made it hard or impossible to install them. Mine worked great, though, so it's hard to say if you should trust them or not.
A shame that it requires VPN like Dragon Quest Stars. Definitely don't want to go through that hassle again..
For iOS users that are desperate in trying it out, I recommend using a application named "TunnelBear", it's free but you only have a limited amount of data you can use in a free account. Just choose "Japan" and you should be able to bypass it, it worked for me when I played Dragon Quest Stars long ago.
Kind of tedious to setup, but if you're on Android there's tincor keymapper. Which allows you to map controller button presses to screen touches.
Yeah, it was for me as well. The page it was even recorded on the wayback machine as well.
When I came in contact with Amazon they ended up accusing me for falling for a scam since it wasn't a direct Amazon link. Ugh.
Some are in-stock for amazon.co.jp
https://www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/Dragon-PP904-Adventures-Painted-Complete/dp/B09WMT8CWT
And amiami has one used for nearly a retail price
The new one coming out on the 9th might be a good option, it's a spinoff (non-standard) game so we don't quite know yet. There should be time to get it if you wait until next week and the reviews to come out, if you'd like.
As another option, Dragon Quest 11 was released on the switch some time ago: https://www.amazon.com/DRAGON-QUEST-XI-Elusive-Definitive/dp/B07NQGDXRY
The game coming out next week has characters from Dragon Quest 11 in it (as children, it's a story of them as kids going on a treasure hunt). However you probably don't need to have played 11 to understand it.
I'm certain either way he'll be happy that you're being so thoughtful.
Take a look at this page: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/583527-dragon-quest-viii-journey-of-the-cursed-king/33338154
Especially the last part of the FAQ has advice for your specific situation.
Personally I'd say don't restart. By level 7 you haven't really wasted too many points, especially for the hero where you're probably going to want some points in those eventually anyway.
http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/583527-dragon-quest-viii-journey-of-the-cursed-king/33338154
I used this guide and I'm doing the last build for the Hero, first for Yangus, either of the top two for Jessica and the first for Angelo. Have a read through it and see which ones match with the other ones if you have a particular style you want in mind for a certain character. I liked builds that result in a lot of multiple target attacks and healing options, so Yangus getting Thin Air, the Hero getting boomerang skills and Jessica getting some good magic with Staves is why I chose those builds. Both Angelo and Hero will get Metal Slash, which is up your alley for metal slime hunting. I like this guide because it's easy and straightforward to see what skills you should pour points into first (you just pour points into the skill at the left until it reaches that level, then move on to the next skill and do the same, rinse and repeat until you're at the end - then put the points into whatever you feel like once the build is done) and tells you at what level the build will be done.
eg - they suggest that getting thin air for three characters is pointless, so I got it with Yangus by focusing on Fisticuffs, which let my hero focus on boomerangs/swords.
Could be onomatopoeia (i.e. "The train was chuffing along.")
Alternately, could be that the localization team slipped a fast one past the Nintendo censors, because "chuffing" is a substitute for "fucking" (i.e. "It's chuffing marvelous!") in British slang.
Alright, we'll be trying it. Thanks for the info!
Just a question, is it normal for the client download to take like 3-4 hrs? (I read the disclaimer though on the website, just wondering if the VPN solves that and cut it down by half, or is it a general experience?)
Can't really afford to subscribe to any VPN right now and I'm just using the ProtonVPN for the meantime which is recommended in the website (I'm in Asia, Philippines to be specific).
If you want the game for collection purposes, it's gonna be pricey. If you want to buy it so you can play the DS version on the DS, you can try one of these emulator DS cards . It's just an emulator with a ton of DS roms on it on a DS card. I got one similar to the one i linked that has all the Dragon quest DS games, including the monster games as well. Very worth it if you're just looking for the playing on the ds experience and aren't bothered about the collection part
I don't see one that looks like this on Amazon but they have a few. Looks a little like this one:
(3" / 7.5cm high)
There is! I recommend using APK Backup & Restore , then the files can be patched with any XDelta patcher (you can just search that in the Play store, should be plenty of suitable options)

Dai no Daibouken is a spinoff manga of DQ, taking some things from the NES DQ games (the ending song was the ending song from DQ2 but with lyrics, for instance).
Some weeks ago, it was announced that they're remaking the anime and also making a videogame based on the series.
They are still international PAL copies of it on Amazon.fr, if you can pay international shipping : https://www.amazon.fr/Dragon-Quest-VIII-Journey-Nintendo/dp/B01N4ADPMM/ref=sr\_1\_1?keywords=dragon+quest+viii+3ds&qid=1643615606&sprefix=dragon+quest+viii+%2Caps%2C66&sr=8-1

Unfortunately this doesn't work. I've even tried to "Run As Administrator". I've recently come across a discussion on Steam.
Someone recommended using this tool for running games in borderless mode. I actually had pretty good results playing MGSV with it's in game borderless mode.
Anyway, I'll give it a go and let you know the results.
Looks like there is a ROM for it

My Raspberry Pi plays PS2 games pretty well, but it does tend to get pretty hot when I play them for a long time. I am sure a PC could push it pretty well.

Edit, I think I was thinking of PS1 games, not sure about the emulator situation on the PS2. I would be interested to know if you get it working, that was a great game and my PS2 is long gone.

Haven't read it yet, but it seems to be a parody of Dragon Quest 3 (or at least, classic RPGs)... except everyone has phones and social media accounts. Peeking at the preview, there's lots of other exchanges that are preeeetty familiar in the preview, taking some elements of Dragon Quest 1 as well.

>There is a popular theory (which is backed up by some gray area sources like the Emblem of Roto manga) that Dragonlord is the offspring/descendant of the Dragon Queen, who was the original owner of the Sphere of Light.
I will point out that the official 25th anniversary data book released by Square also lists this which is a better source than Emblem of Roto since that refers to the game canon and not a separate novel canon.

As for the slime I got mine off Amazon! https://www.amazon.com/Genshin-Impact-Pillow-Dragon-Action/dp/B08ZHFQW31/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=dragon+quest+slime&qid=1630098153&sr=8-1
I'm not from Massachusetts. I was reading a few Images of America books I borrowed from a library and one of the books was about Danvers State Hospital (https://www.amazon.com/Danvers-State-Hospital-Images-America/dp/1467127663/), which was where I got the name.
Yeah, I got mine from 'Japan FAN Store' when it was only $28 including shipping from Japan. Price has gone up a fair bit, but at least there's some Prime options now. If you go to a different shop or listing, just be sure to verify the dimensions and weight. Mine is the 'L' large version in solid metal (~4.5 wide x 1.25" tall). There's also a smaller version, and probably some vinyl/plastic variations.
If you have any relatively modern phone (i.e. past 2012, which you should have if you can post on reddit and have internet access), it's $10 USD on phone app stores.
Google Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.square_enix.android_googleplay.dq5
Apple App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/dragon-quest-v/id933113994
Perfectly working ports that are 100% just as good as DS versions; I personally played DQ4 on my phone for the party chat and it was honestly better than when I played DQ5/DQ6 on my DS, just because of the convenience of having it on your phone, since people generally have their phones 24/7. Not worse in any way, and definitely cheaper for sure.
I love the rerelease on android. I played this so much as a kid on the NES.
I hope this helps:
-First of all make sure you turn off your mobile data on your phone
-Then you scan the qr code with a camera. If you are having trouble with scanning a QR code with a camera, then press the +Button, which is "trouble connecting?" (It tells you the wi-fi SSID, Security, and Password)
-Then go to Add Wi-Fi or Add network on your phone. Then type the SSID number, select the Security, and type the password that is shown on "trouble connecting?" (Passwords may change when you scan a new QR code from the 1st step.) Then you connect to that wi-fi and type in the password. And now the 2nd step is available.
-For the 2nd step I recommend that you use a QR code app. (Here is the one I found which has no ads and no in app purchases: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mauriciogior.openqrcode) You scan the QR code with the app, and it will take you to link. You press on the link, and voila you have your pictures. :D And now you can save or download your pictures to your phone. (Here is why I said "turn off your mobile data" If your mobile data is on, you may receive a 404 error message after you click on that link.)
DQ 1-3 are also on Switch as a combo package:
https://www.amazon.ca/Dragon-Quest-Collection-Nintendo-Switch/dp/B08173F2CB
I've been mulling over getting this forever but can't pull the trigger yet since I still own them on other consoles (NES, gbc).
Yeah, I think so too. Its why I use it so often. I bought that online, as when I arrived in Japan for my year of work - I've never seen it for sale in any shop, even the specialty "character shops" in Akiharbara or used collector shops didnt have it. I got pretty lucky, picking it up on amazon for about 40 dollars from the last seller to have it at that price. After it arrived, I noticed it had a scratch on the paint - nothing major but if you know where to look you can spot it. I went to buy a second one to ship to America but the price had doubled.
80 dollars for just a small table? Crazy! So I shipped mine back to America and --- of course that was another 35 in shipping. Didn't even cross my mind that this tiny, super small and low to the ground table - was costing me so much. However, I had the mindset that this was a once in a lifetime thing to own.
Now, you can find the same item on Amazon is back down to its regular price - but its sold out and only available for "pre-order" if they make it again. Usually these things aren't remade though... so I guess in a sense - its a very previous item that Im happy to have, but also I over invested in getting it here and Im probably just going to be moving again so it was a bit of a waste. Maybe I should call it "Bitter Sweet"?
Available on Amazon Japan
Amazon Japan should work
Here's a link to buy it on amazon Japan, its easy to make an account if you haven't already 😊
Maybe it's a regional thing for you. I'm seeing the same price for each game on both platforms:
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/dragon-quest-viii/id862972069
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.square_enix.android_googleplay.dq8&hl=en_US
I live in Ireland so i use amazon.co.uk here
This seems to be the one, it is quite pricey tho
It looks a little matt (is that a word?) in the picture but judging from the reviews and their pictures this should be the one
There might be one in the Dragon Quest art book.
https://www.amazon.com/Dragon-Quest-Illustrations-30th-Anniversary/dp/1974703908
I saw copies of this book at Barnes & Noble, but that was over a year ago.
If you're in Japan, you'll list them for like $900 and never sell them because nobody is dumb enough to ever pay that.
In the US, a few dollars? https://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10114486 says a starting set was a little over $7. There are gougers trying to get $50 for this at Amazon, https://www.amazon.com/Dragon-Monster-Battle-Legend-Special/dp/B003RWSK8M and those are the guys who will never sell it because they're asking ridiculous prices.
pcsx2 emulate the translated ps2 version..soo good.
you can get the disc off amazon for 20 bucks..to avoid piracy

Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past - Nintendo 3DS https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017W175SE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_9zSEEb3THHY3Y
That’s 7 on Amazon for 42. I also found a good seller on Amazon selling 8 for 54, but I couldn’t link it. Good luck!
It's probably not the most elegant solution, but you could consider a fight stick.
For example, Hori makes one: HORI Nintendo Switch Real Arcade Pro V Hayabusa Fight Stick Officially Licensed by Nintendo - Nintendo Switch; https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N4P40LG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_2EhYDbQEGAXQG
My only concern with these is that I'm not sure how the camera/movement will be since there's no dual analog sticks.
Since the game is a turn based RPG and not an action one, you could also consider a game pad pro or using one of those joy con comfort grip holders.
Here's me having a ps4 but budget-restraints, so I'll still have to wait to get a better deal.

If only Squenix would put all this stuff up on Steam..

Edit: it's discounted to 28 pounds on amazon uk: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Dragon-Quest-Builders-2-PS4/dp/B07NSQH1B9/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=builders+2&qid=1568795150&s=gateway&sr=8-1
Its alright for the price. A bit barren and I would have wished for a bigger format but its good for the price
