Sure.
Most of the app in the Play Store that offer you a free VPN are not "that free", instead they sell your traffic, your information, they just monetize you.
To use a real VPN that protect your privacy you have to pay, servers and bandwidth are expensive (think about it, the free ones must gain a lot of $$$ by selling your data to make a profit AND pay the infrastructure), at this point the best way to use a VPN is to get a good VPN plan (like AirVPN but there are some more provider) and use an app, like Open VPN Connect, where you can import the certificates in it and use it.
The certificates are the files that the VPN provider give you to use their VPN servers.
Don't trust free VPN if you want to protect your privacy and want good speed to download/surf the web.
Sorry for my bad english, if you want more information you can visit the /r/VPN subreddit.

Edit: This is only for the OpenVPN Connect app
I have been using Private Internet Access for the last while and found it to be good. It's $7 per month, or $40 for the year (which works out well under your €5 a month). They have an Android app, as well. The speed is a bit hit and miss sometimes, but often changing where you are connected to can sort that out. They have servers in something like 20 countries, including this one, so you have plenty of options. They also claim not to log any traffic.
Alternatively, any VPN provider should work with an Android app called OpenVPN Connect. Once you find a VPN that you like, that should sort you out, if it doesn't have an Android app.
There was another thread on here I think a few weeks back about this kind of thing as well. I'll see if I can find it.
AirVPN strictly uses OpenVPN. Nearly all the other types of VPN are flawed or their clients are flawed, or are not as strong as OpenVPN.
This is the official OpenVPN client made by OpenVPN.
You need to install the client to use this superior type of VPN.
I use OpenVPN client (so I can easily get to my home pc and hosting servers without forwarding ports) and ConnectBot, which is a neat open-source SSH client
how is this different from using the the openvpn app from the play store and using it instead of protonvpn's. I use the openvpn app because it has better support for things other than just proton, more features, and uses less battery.
I'll second this. OpenVPN Connect is the official name. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.openvpn.openvpn&hl=en_US
I haven't tried it on the Shield, but it is what I use on my phone and tablet to connect to my home network when away. As an added bonus, when paired with a pihole, it becomes a great root-free adblocker.
> If your VPN service needs its own app you're doing it wrong.

You want to add a VPN server to your laptop, so your phone can connect to it? Weird, but okay.
Set up OpenVPN as a server on your laptop. - https://www.howtoforge.com/tutorial/how-to-install-openvpn-on-centos-7/
Install OpenVPN from the playstore on your android - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.openvpn.openvpn&hl=en
You should setup a secure VPN on your home network and use that VPN wherever you go, even on mobile data. I recommend OpenVPN since there are good apps for both iOS and Android. Ensure you are tunneling all traffic so you don't leak stuff like DNS.
Edit: I personally use this OpenVPN Android app to connect to a OpenVPN I installed on my pfSense home router.
I have had success with OpenVPN Connect and some intents.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.openvpn.openvpn
Here is a guide for the intents.
Personally i use this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.openvpn.openvpn&hl=en (I also use it for my selfhosted home vpn)
Once installed you can manually create profiles using the nordvpn server you wish to use.
I dont think so? I haven't learned as much as I should about vpns. I tried to set up openvpn from scratch and failed to get it to work.
But what I have successfully used is pivpn just with openvpn app all with the default settings.
It successfully gets around content blocks this way, and on data I can even access my home network samba share. The samba share doesn't work through WiFi for some reason though, probably because of routing issues. That is next on my list of things to learn.
Hi,
There are 2 applications that we can recommend:
tap
even with root...)You can use OpenVPN and automate any VPN.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.openvpn.openvpn
Just import the ovpn files into the app and use intents.
VPN connect
Action: android.intent.action.VIEW
Extra: net.openvpn.openvpn.AUTOSTART_PROFILE_NAME:Romania
Package: net.openvpn.openvpn
Class: net.openvpn.openvpn.OpenVPNClient
Target: Activity
VPN Disconnect
Action: android.intent.action.VIEW
Package: net.openvpn.openvpn
Class: net.openvpn.openvpn.OpenVPNDisconnect
Target: Activity
Good luck
Instead of Romania, just use the profile name from the app.
Or, you could use this app. Same thing. Import the ovpn files, but it manages the connect and disconnect depending on mobile data, selected wifi networks etc.
It's a solid app. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=it.colucciweb.openvpn
I sideloaded the OpenVPN app and use the .ovpn profiles that I got from my provider, enabling the options to launch at startup and use the "seamless tunnel" as a killswitch. My VPN isn't free, but for $30/yr on sale right now they're easily worth it.
It has been a long time, but I think the one I ended up using was this one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.openvpn.openvpn&hl=en With that said, in the end, I gave up, at least with using PIA, as the connection always timed out. Good luck!
Looks like your not using the official android client, so it might be an issue with that. This is the official one and works fine for me on my phone. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.openvpn.openvpn
Seconded! Plus the OpenVPN Connect app works great on phones and tablets. I use it to connect remotely to Blue Iris, Home Assistant, and home PCs. My router firewall blocks all access to the Internet from all IoT devices. I run a local NTP time service on a PC, and all Tasmota devices get their time from that local service.
You will need this app to connect to the VPN:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.openvpn.openvpn&hl=en_US&gl=US
To connect to the VPN, you will need to generate a .ovpn file from my website and open the .ovpn file in the app. From it should be straight forward.
Once connected, go to https://browserleaks.com/ip
If the IP address shown is 198.251.83.147
, then you are connected. Make sure the IPv6 address shows as n/a and WebRTC Leak Test doesn't show a different IP. The DNS leak tests should not show servers with the same ISP as yours.
vpnconnect is what i use
vpngate.net/en/ is where i grab the file for a japan ip
download ip file for android ---> open up vpnconnect ---> import file ----> turn it on ----> log into the game
once you have your main account, you can get rid of the vpn
What type of VPN? OpenVPN? L2TP?
I VPN into my home router and also have a VPN subscription. I use:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.openvpn.openvpn
for both and recommend it. OpenVPN is the way to go if you can.
you can do that. IPsec vpn is natively supported on almost any platform, and OpenVPN has android app (probably iOS version exists too)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.openvpn.openvpn
I'm using it on android and works great. You can create home screen widget for quick connection/disconnection
Ah, so there is a VPN client that allows intents. But I'm still speculating that particular VPN service providers might not be compatible with that particular package; I strongly suspect a Juniper wouldn't, but that was years ago; I suppose I shouldn't be surprised if OpenVPN has improved enough to handle such exceptions. On the other hand, I see that the description includes the text "You will need an existing OpenVPN Compatible Server or an Access Server subscription", strongly implying the existence of OpenVPN Incompatible Servers.
Yeah, I've done sunrise/sunset calculations offline too. It's nice to know that weather.gov still has an API; Weather Underground has mostly closed theirs down.
Edit: I somehow missed the phrase "my home VPN", oops.
It should work if entered exactly. It took me a time or two to get it right. I"ll double check that the description got posted correctly.
Also, this is only for the OpenVPN Connect app.
I would be very surprised that you would not have that, PocoF1 certainly has it.
You need to install (and properly configure) something like this or this and then under MIUI settings you should see those programs under VPN and then from there you click on the settings icon on the right and activate Always ON and eventually Block without.
You have a lot of options there. Starting with the same OpenVPN Connect(recent iOS OpenVPN client has Seamless tunnel mode) or built-in L2TP client or even Always-On automatic IKEV2 (this will require provisioning the phone with Apple Configurator, but then the tunnel is literally always-on) . On Android I’m sure the state of affairs is similar even though I did not hold Android device for 6+ years, so cannot comment there.
Looks like something is off with the profile, if that's the message. I'm affraid I can't help much more.
FYI, how I did it: I set my VPN port to 443, because on public networks often only port 80(80) and 443 is allowed. I imported the *.ovpn file on the official OpenVPN app and did some tweaking on changing the ports, the server ip and adding my local gateway.
I hope you find what's wrong.
Is that the official app OpenVPN Connect https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.openvpn.openvpn
or the 3rd party OpenVPN for Android? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.blinkt.openvpn
What version of OpenVPN for Android do you have?
Can you also export your task and put it here?
Long click on the task > Three vertical dots on top right > Export > Description to Clipboard
Edit: Hm, are you using this app? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.openvpn.openvpn
The intent will only work for this one.
Edit 2: Seems that the intent for "Open VPN for Android" is:
Send Intent Action:android.intent.action.MAIN Cat:None Extra:de.blinkt.openvpn.shortcutProfileName:PROFILENAME Package:de.blinkt.openvpn Class:de.blinkt.openvpn.activities.api.DisconnectVPN Target:Activity
Sorry for the confusion, but because you mentioned Nord, I thought you had OpenVPN Connect instead (as suggested by Nord).
Well, in fact it's more a VPN than a proxy. Personally I use OpenVPN https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.openvpn.openvpn together with a service i've suscribed otherwise, that also offer vpn access, and works with CT. But you should be able to use free ones, even if they might be slower.
Thanks for the answer.

Is the following opnvpn app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.openvpn.openvpn
is the official one (the same one as the famous linux openvpn) ?
This one I guess:https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.openvpn.openvpn&hl=en_US
I found it trough the Play Store on my Android TV (SHIELD TV).
Most of the stuff works with the remote
I assume you are using your own vpn server if so you can use https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.openvpn.openvpn
If you okay using any other VPN app that has a free tier and a paid tier you can use https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.madapps.vpn
Here is my tasker profile and tasks for connecting and disconnecting from my VPN (I use OpenVPN Connect)
The profile (At Home) is for detecting whether you are connected to your home network (change the SSID in the profile) and sets to global variable.
The tasks (VPN Connect and VPN Disconnect) send an intent to OpenVPN Connect to connect to a vpn profile you have set (I named mine home) in the app.
Just for clarity for others reading, that's for OpenVPN Connect, not OpenVPN for Android.
Has anyone done an audit of the standard openvpn connect app. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.openvpn.openvpn&hl=en
I use it to connect to my home VPN server while on public WiFi.
VPN Connect:
Tasker - System - Send Intent Action: android.intent.action.VIEW Extra: net.openvpn.openvpn.AUTOSTART_PROFILE_NAME:Profile_name Package: net.openvpn.openvpn Class: net.openvpn.openvpn.OpenVPNClient Target: Activity
VPN Disconnect:
Tasker - System - Send Intent Action: android.intent.action.VIEW Package: net.openvpn.openvpn Class: net.openvpn.openvpn.OpenVPNDisconnect Target: Activity
By the way, using this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.openvpn.openvpn
Hope it helps you. Profile_name - as listed in the OpenVPN application. I have the same setup as you. OpenVPN and PIA.
Sorry for the late answer.
I have not had this issue, though I am still not on the final release. Currently on 7.1.1 Beta 2 for Nexus 5x, stock, unrooted, it works just fine. I have the standard OpenVPN client installed and copied over the profile with the .ovpn and certs generated from my pfsense router.
I'll keep this in mind though if I have an issue once upgraded to the final prod.
The final bits of the setup:
Setup your router to give your Pi a static IP internally. Now, setup port forwarding, and forward port 1194 external to 1194 internal. That's the only port you will ever need to forward for this to work.
I would recommend setting up a Dynamic DNS service or the like, and using that in your key files. Means you'll always have a static name for your dynamic IP internet service, and won't be unable to connect going forward.
Send your personal keyfile to each of your mobile devices (phone, laptop, maybe a USB stick) over a secure network (your home network). Don't compromise security of your setup by sending it over an open, unencrypted channel; this is just considered 'good practice'.
There's a simple OpenVPN client available for Android and iOS. When you're out and about, don't forget to use it. I know, it's 'slower' because you're limited to your upload bandwidth at home, but the first time you forget is the first time someone's snooping; sad but true.
Not sure what services you're using at home. I have my file server accessible via SSH and NFS to my home network, and I just access it via IP. My desktop, I can VNC into safely, as, again, there's no open external ports. Basically, it's all 'safe' now, as there's only 1 external open port, and that's being guarded by the VPN :)
This one? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.openvpn.openvpn&hl=en I've used this one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.blinkt.openvpn&hl=en which worked fine till the update. I'll try the official App again, which I installed at first, but I don't now anymore why I didn't use it.
EDIT: I now know what the problem was (I did not now how to operate the app properly). However I've imported my profiles and got the same error (network receive error) after a few secconds of connection. Furthermore, this kills the internet connection for the whole device. I have to delete my wifi and log back in or connect to a different one first and then it'll find my wifi again (Network out of reach, router is 6 feet away).
Thanks for the suggestion. I tried the seamless tunnel
option. It appears to have no effect. I'm unable to ping google's DNS servers from devices on the wifi network when the OpenVPN client is connected. I'm running OpenVPN Connect (The Play store description claims to be the official OpenVPN app).
PS: As for the OpenVPN docker container, I'm running a Centos server with openvpn 2.3.10-1.el6
is there any benefit, other than containerization, of running it in a docker instance? As the VPN appeared to work fine on my phones and desktop, I assumed the issue was within the phone's network routing.
you can probably take my usb audio knowledge with a large grain of salt as well.
I didn't realize that it was so easy to add the missing vpn binaries that ftv os chose not to include. so apparently the default answer of no isn't strictly accurate anymore.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.openvpn.openvpn
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.schaeuffelhut.android.openvpn
that website notes that not every vpn provider works, so it's not restoring native vpn support, only allows openvpn compatible connections.
that guide should be fine, let us know how it goes.
Unfortunately I am not aware of a trustworthy app to do so but thought I would give my advice. You can setup your own openvpn server at digital ocean and use the openvpn connect app to connect to it. If you have a little experience with linux, you should be able to set it up. I have set one up that uses its own DNS server that blocks advertisements, known malware domains, and tracking services.
It has worked wonderfully for me and knowing that I control where my traffic goes and blocks advertisements on all of my devices. Also it is only $10 a month with digital ocean. If you have no experience with Linux, ask nicely and I would not mind setting it up for you if you like.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.openvpn.openvpn
Yes, your VPN provider may have an app with a "kill-switch" for exactly this purpose (PIA does, for example), or if you are on Android, you can use (OpenVPN Connect's)[https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.openvpn.openvpn] 'seamless' option to accomplish the same thing. If you are on iOS or other, then I'm not certain but it's likely that a similar app exists.
I'm a little confused. This OpenVPN client works fine for me on 5.1.0.
Is this chap running a server on his phone, or am I missing some crucial part? If so, why is that desirable (how would this help Zynga, particularly)?
Is it a CLI version?
Sorry, these are all for android, but I'm sure most have an ios version to. It's quite a long list, so sorry about that, but hopefully some of you will find it interesting!
Connectivity/Geekery
Open VPN and RD client are brilliant. If you install open vpn on a VM at your home you can route all your traffic home - especially useful on an open wifi access point, and RD client by Microsoft makes connecting to your home pc (or server :D) a doddle.
RoByte If you own a few rokus this app is essential! Especially when you start adding widgets to your home screen
Smart IR Remote It's expensive but if you have a lot of gadgets in your house this app really helps consolidating remotes!
Transdroid The easiest way to many your torrents remotely. You can add torrents from your phone to be downloaded automatically on your server/home pc. The widgets are also brilliant - you can see everything you are downloading on your homescreen!
File Manager The best file manager app I've come across. You can add cloud storage to transfer to and from your phone. I use it to copy files from my FTP server.
Security
Cerberus Allows you to remotely track your phone if it gets lost. You can get a photo of the Tw*t who's nicked it and remotely wipe it if you need to.
Authenticator Plus If you use a lot of second factor applications then you NEED this application. Worth the cost of it for the encrypted backup alone!
LastPass If you reuse passwords across sites then you really need this app in your life! This lets you create very random secure passwords for each site you use, and it synchronises securely to the web so you can get the password you need easily on all devices.
General Apps
Nova Launcher I use a samsung phone, so this is so much better than TouchWiz
1SE I have used this application daily since my youngest was born. It lets you record a second of video daily and you get a cool video showing what you have been up to over the last year. This isn't for everyone!
OneDrive I use my phone as my primary camera now, so it's essential I back up my photos regularly. This is the easiest way to do so that works reliable across different phones! PLEASE if you have important data on your phone back it up!!
Asda/Tesco etc: If you get your weekly shopping delivered to your house there is a good chance the shop has an app that will let you scan barcodes of the items you have just run out of. Generally you can add it to a shopping basket and when you come to do your weekly shop you haven't forgotten things!
Weather Timeline Just a beautiful weather app that works on android wear.
Your banking app: I find my banking app is brilliant, but I have seen some that are terrible. Worth trying your out though! (I will test it for you if you send me your pin, long banking card, security number on the back etc :-D)
Media
Pocket Cast Best podcast app out there IMHO.
Plex You will need to configure the server side to index all your media (and you probably need to pay for plex plus), but once added you can access all your home media anywhere, and you can set it up to sync say 5 unwatched episodes of a series.
Smart Audiobook Player The best way to listen to audio books you have copied over to your device.
Social
Evolve SMS There might be better sms apps out there, but I quite like this.
Threema If you want to have a private conversation with someone then this is the app to use! supports all the major features as Whatsapp, but it's very securely encrypted.
Current Affairs
Now for reddit I'm a real fan of this app. Give it a try!
Feedly This doesn't support offline synchronisation which is a shame, but it's pretty good apart from that.
The Guardian Pretty clean app, and supports Android Wear.
If you're on a PC, and not using uBlock Origin already, you should be.
If you're at home on your phone with wifi, and are somewhat tech savvy, consider dropping $5 on a pi zero and run pi hole on it. This intercepts 99% of ads before they even get served to you by blocking their domains completely, and it works for all devices connected to your network, without needing them to install any additional software.
On public wifi, or mobile data, you can spend a bit more for a pi 3b, run openvpn, and the aforementioned pi hole on it, and then get the mobile openvpn client (android or ios), and set that up to connect to your vpn at home (android or ios).
The short, short answer: Yes.
The actually useful answer:
You'll need to also setup a VPN, and a dynamic DNS service (for sanity). I assume you've got Pi-hole running on an actual Raspberry Pi.
If you have one setup already, great. No reason to re-invent the wheel on this. If not: https://www.dynu.com/DynamicDNS/IPUpdateClient/RaspberryPi-Dynamic-DNS
https://www.duckdns.org/install.jsp (Thanks /u/gaso!)
Setup OpenVPN on your Pi: http://www.pivpn.io/
During setup, remember to put in your Dynamic DNS address for the server location.
Every router is a little different in this. Make sure your Pi has a static internal IP on your router, then forward UDP port 1194 to it.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.openvpn.openvpn&hl=en - for Android (there's a couple different clients out there, I like the stripped down default one)
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/openvpn-connect/id590379981?mt=8
Once you've got all that setup, create an OpenVPN user for yourself on your Pi using the included tool. Copy that file over to your phone. "Proper" methodology (trust relationships and all) would be doing that on a trusted computer over a wired connection... but so long as you trust the method you use is secure, that's what matters.
At that point, you should be able to drop off Wifi, open the OpenVPN client on your phone, use that connect file, and connect. Your phone will be 'on' your home network, with full access to all the services provided; any file stores, Pi-hole, your home computer, etc.
I do this often; I have a NAS that I have 2.5TiB of media stored on, and I like watching movies on my phone when I'm on the bus :)
The Android app only works on Android version 5 and up. Please see our support page for alternative ways to connect to our service.
You should be able to connect using OpenVPN Connect if the nuvpn app cannot be installed on your device. Download your OpenVPN profiles from the account page and import. Use your nuvpn credentials when prompted to connect using this app.
What about the OpenVPN app? This is the one I am talking about: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.openvpn.openvpn
I provide something similar for friends and family using Pi-hole with unbound as the upstream resolver and an OpenVPN split tunnel with OpenVPN Connect (Android, iOS) as the access client.
My setup is...honestly, pretty convoluted (mostly surrounding boot failover and services deployment, but I digress), but one can achieve the same functionality trivially using Pi-hole and OpenVPN/PiVPN. Pi-hole even has documentation on trivially deploying either DNS only split-tunnel or full-tunnel and split-tunnel OpenVPN configurations using Pi-hole as the DNS provider.
The obvious bonuses here being not having to hand off DNS requests to a third party (when I say I'm not logging, I know I mean it), and also being in control of your own black and white listing.
You also have the benefit of being able to let your end users know why they can't access a domain (for full-tunnel clients only, split-tunnel where only the DNS requests are handled will not be able to serve a block page), by changing Pi-hole's default blocking mode so as to provide a block page which you can customise if desired.
The only real downside to providing your own recursive resolver using unbound is that the first time any given domain is requested may take several seconds to resolve (as it needs to walk the path itself), but after the fact it'll be served from the cache and there will be no notable difference in performance vs. any other upstream DNS provider.
Edited to add: The performance overhead on the client running the OpenVPN Connect software is absolutely negligible for split tunnel configurations, and the network overhead on the Pi-hole/OpenVPN/Unbound hosts equally negligible.
We're talking a few hundred Kb of traffic here.
Multiple full tunnel clients could quickly provide a bandwidth/network overhead issue, but this is not a problem for slit tunnel clients. Full tunnel paths with up and down stream compression can be noticeably taxing on mobile clients in terms of CPU/battery overhead, but not so much in my experience that it negates the use thereof - though YMMV on legacy devices.
That's likely to be a significant part of the problem. Get the official OpenVPN app and see if that works. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.openvpn.openvpn&hl=en_AU
As for you running the command, it looks like it was a pre-existing rule so that must not be your situation. The password thing on the android device, mine certainly didn't do that. When importing the ovpn file on my android phone and tablet it just worked, no password or anything... I THINK there may have been an option during setup where it prompts you to enter an option VPN password? Not sure. I dunno what guide you did follow, so here's what I did:
setup a DO droplet like normal. Cheapest one was fine, it's only acting as a middle man so 1CPU and very little memory is needed, then follow these steps to ensure it's setup properly and securely: https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/initial-server-setup-with-ubuntu-16-04
I started following these steps for the initial setup. Some of this appears out of date, so I also kicked over to the official docs. https://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/ubuntu-linux-install-pi-hole-with-a-openvpn/ https://github.com/pi-hole/pi-hole/wiki/Pi-hole---OpenVPN-server
First I created a .ovpn for my linux laptop, dumped out all the relevant info into different files to get it working with Network Manager. Tested everything and it was working.
Made 2 more .ovpn's for my phone and tablet, installed this client onto both: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.openvpn.openvpn copied my ovpn's over via a OTG flash drive, imported, done.
After a little while I noticed sites like NewEgg loaded super slow, so I did digging and found the reject thing for the HTTPS. I couldn't find any good step by step guides so I'm tempted to roll another droplet and do it all over just so I can write a guide myself and include any of these pitfalls the other guides are "missing" when using pihole on a VPS.
1) how do I use/get a VPN on my mobile devices?
You can use openvpn config files.
Or some VPN providers actually have apps.
2) is there anyway to use TOR on my mobile devices?
3) will VPN/TOR do me any good on a device using 4G?
I don't see why not. But your cell provider will know your using it.
4) is safaris private setting any good? I know my ISP will still have all my history, but if I use a VPN will safari suffice?
You may want to look into other browsers.
Connecting to an OpenVPN server all day with OpenVPN Connect
Yeah, good job linking the unofficial OpenVPN app though :^)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.openvpn.openvpn

It doesn't seem their app support automation, then simulating the click, i.e. using the Interact block, to connect is the only option. However they seem to support OpenVPN connections, so you should be able to use the OpenVPN app which do support automation, e.g using the App start block:
"net.openvpn.openvpn.CONNECT"
{ "net.openvpn.openvpn.AUTOSTART_PROFILE_NAME": "AS your_profile_name" }
You also don't have to use the Synology OpenVPN client. I recommend the one from OpenVPN themselves.

And the official client works by sending intents.
Run an OVPN client on your phone to test if your setup works. If you are on the same network, turn off Wifi on the phone so it it will be outside your network and see if you can use the QNAP file manager Qfile app.
On my iPhone, I use:
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/openvpn-connect/id590379981
(On my Chromebook, I use the Android app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.openvpn.openvpn&hl=en_US&gl=US)
with the Qfile iPhone app
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/openvpn-connect/id590379981
OpenVPN clients usually show a connection graph with how much data is being transferred.
Unless you must, I would not enable ftp for security reasons. if vpn is working you can upload and download files from the QNAP file manager QFile app on your phone or QNAP File Station on a computer.
There are users here with a lot more expertise, but I hope the above points you in the right direction.

in un full desktop linux ci sono talmente tante cose che possono andare storte con la configurazione di rete che e' molto difficile da debbuggare
You Can even use Tor browser if you just need a VPN to browse the Net. As it has an inbuilt VPN and is most Secure for Browsing
I just wanted to piggy back off of this to say that there are other options. I do information security stuff for a living and there are services which are free and maintained by the security community to be used in situations such as these. Granted, whether or not your device(s) and network will support the tools depends on you.
I would suggest downloading OpenVPN client:
* iOS
* Android
* Windows
From there you should be able to use any of the servers listed here: VPNGate
It would also be worthwhile to use a Private DNS options and DNS over HTTPS for your devices as well. More about that can be read here:
* 1.1.1.1 DNS, scroll to where it says "Setup on... [DEVICE NAME]"
It's all fairly straightforward but if you need help, just PM me - there's also YouTube if you don't want to ask :P
edit: worth mentioning that there are no network usage caps to this service
OpenVPN is an open source VPN server and client. It is trusted software around here. For android specifically, I only know of two legitimate OpenVPN clients. There may be many more but I have no experience with them.
This is the official client from OpenVPN
This is an open source, unofficial client from Arne Schwabe - here is their website which includes a link to the source code.
In the future we ask that you remove the name of commercial VPN providers from your post to assure that Automod will not filter it. Due to the volume of spam and paid reviews in the VPN business we do filter posts.
So your island IP is actually is your wifi IP So in order to play together you need the same IP address There are two ways 1. Play in the same Wi-Fi You can check in Wi-Fi settings for the IP address 2. If you are not in same Wi-Fi You can make a "private server" by using VPN So in order to do that you can use https://m.freeopenvpn.org/en/premium/logpass.php?co=USA and connect Download UDP file and copy username and password Then paste all of them in VPN profiles, this will give you IP address that other people can use Then share the UDP, username and password to your friends Then ask them to connect and enter the IP address that have been generated in the game Enjoy playing together
P.S.: If you change your IP, your friend in the island will get autokicked by the system For the VPN profile you can use this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.openvpn.openvpn Also, if you use https://m.freeopenvpn.org/ only, you can choose which country you want to connect

I use:
• PiVPN
• Pi-hole full and split tunnel OpenVPN configuration
For this scenario.
Edit: Full Tunnel for remote access (rarely needed), Split Tunnel for full-time blocking DNS. I have a very simple Tasker setup that manages switching between my split tunnel if I'm not on my home network.
Edit Edit:
I also run
• unbound
so I'm my own resolver.
Openvpn for mobile: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.openvpn.openvpn
Must be used in connection with (you need both): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.easyovpn.easyovpn
Use the second one to choose Japan as the region you want to connect to, and the first one does the rest of the work. Should not take more than 5 seconds to connect. If it takes longer then it's no good, go back to Easyovpn and choose a different Japan and try to connect.
For computers: https://openvpn.net/community-downloads/. Download the exe file. After installing, navigate to the Openvpn folder where you saved it, open the config folder and delete what's in there. Then go to http://www.vpngate.net/. Click the Openvpn Config file for any of the Japan listings. Download any one of the four links. Now copy and paste that config file to the config folder. In the bin folder is where you'll find the executable, openvpn-gui. Double click that, and an icon will appear in your taskbar (where the Volume is, on Windows 8). Double click that or right click it, either way you'll get a popup, which should NEVER take more than 10 seconds before it tells you it succeeded. If it goes on longer than that, the config file is likely no good and will never connect, so just download of the other 4 config files you found on vpngate. If none of those work (at least one should) then just look for a different Japan listing and try a few of those files.
I'd recommend making the Openvpn program folder into a shortcut on your desktop because even if they work at first, every config file will eventually stop working and you will have to go back to vpngate periodically to download a new file. Vpngate also has their own software called SoftEther that you could use, they have their own instructions on how to use it so you could look at that. It uses the same files found on the homepage.
You should be all set. It's much easier and quicker to set up on mobile. This will allow access to Japan exclusive apps. I should mention though, a few years ago me and other users experienced connectivity issues with the Openvpn app after an update (I'm on Android) and idk if it was ever fixed or not. My solution at the time was to just download the very first version of the app through an apk website and since then I've been using that. So if the version on the store doesn't work, try an older version.
You can also use this method on an Amazon FireStick since it has an Android based operating system. I use it to watch Japanese Netflix and Amazon Prime on my tv. It is even possible, with the use of an additional program, to be able to connect your PS4. A guy I had told about that quite a while ago said he used the method to access the Japanese servers in a game? Or something. And was chatting and exploring with the players. I'd need to dig through my old comments for that quote.
Wait, we're talking about this one, right? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.openvpn.openvpn I'm not seeing Global Options anywhere.
Reason I'm trying to make sure is because of this app with the actual name as "OpenVPN for Android" as I said in my title. :/ https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.blinkt.openvpn
OpenVPN Connet is the 'official' app released by OpenVPN. OpenVPN have also released Private Tunnel VPN. I'm not aware of the source code for either of these apps being available - it doesn't appear to be on GitHub.
Personally, I'd recommend OpenVPN for Android. Its source code is available on GitHub.
Oh, of course. I use openVPN on the phone and the linux command line version on the laptop.
Raspberry pi zero: $5 Google Chromecast Ethernet adapter (for power and Ethernet): $15 4-8 gb micro sd: $5-10
Download raspian from the pi website and follow the instructions to write it to the SD card.
Enable SSH on the pi so you don't have to spend money on adapters for a keyboard and mouse: After writing the OS to the SD card, you will see a drive called BOOT. Add a file to it called SSH. (e.g. right click, select New, choose Text Document and rename it from "New Text Document.txt" to SSH. If you don't see the .txt part of the file, follow these instructions to enable the visibility of file extensions on your computer: Windows XP-8 | Windows 10)
Plug the SD card into the pi and then plug the pi into the ethernet adapter and connect it to your network. Sit back and wait 5-10 minutes for it to do its first-time setup.
After that, you need to use something like Fing to look for the pi on your network. It will be named something like Google Chromecast (if you're using the chromecast ethernet adapter) or raspberry pi.
Download putty to your windows machine and install it. Launch the program. Type the address number found there (something like 192.168.0.114 or 10.10.0.114) into the Host Name box and click Open. You will be asked for a username and password. The username will be pi and the password raspberry.
Then follow the instructions found on http://www.pivpn.io to install openvpn on the pi zero, and generate your certificates. You can then use https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.openvpn.openvpn on your phone to connect or use the windows installer here to get the openvpn GUI on your pc/laptop.
Boom. $25 spent and after 2-4 hours of setup, you have your own VPN server at home.
Follow the instructions here to enable VPN on your router http://www.dlink.co.id/how-do-i-set-up-the-quick-vpn-feature-on-my-dir-885l-router/
then instead of doing the Windows part of that walkthrough, setup OpenVPN on your Andriod or IOS. After you get that connected, you should be able to connect to devices on your home network when connected to mobile data.
If your external Google Fiber IP changes, it'll stop working so look and see if your router/modem supports dydns
This is their official app (for OpenVPN only. Others see my other comment). https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.openvpn.openvpn

Using OpenVPN app - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.openvpn.openvpn
România is the profile name in the OpenVPN app.
Good luck.
I don't know who Arne Schwab is? I thought this was the official client: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.openvpn.openvpn
Using a Pixel 7.1.1, no root.
I don't understand your question, but I think the official openvpn app is what you want. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.openvpn.openvpn
You CAN use a VPN on cell phones:
You can also use Open Whisper Systems for encrypted Talk/Text:
not sure why you're being downvoted.
HERE is the official OpenVPN app for reference...
I use OpenVPN Connect on my phone. It was easy to setup with the the .opvn file, works perfectly for when I need to ssh into the network.
Edit: Ignore this, didn't read the question correctly.
