Black Player, but I don't use playlists, so I'm not sure how smart they are. But it does have play count, and ID3 edit
Poweramp is very solid. And frankly if you like it already, it'll be easier to keep it since you're already familiar with how it handles.
But if you want a lightweight player that can handle huge loads, I personally use "Black Player" because of it's minimalist design and it goes well with my theme. I haven't had any issues with it with all the album covers I have or the 1700 songs. But I don't have as many as you do.
Edit: Black Player App store link
I've been using Black Player for like a year or two. Unlike Poweramp, it doesn't list my video files (mp4, most of them) in library, and also its free version doesn't expire.
Edit: better wording.

A really nice music app close to poweramp by functionality, but interface easier to use if you ask me and better looking. And a really nice and good loooking facebook wrapper.
PowerAmp is an abandonware at this point. look into Blackplayer but i suggest using Samsung Music, a nice looking player with plenty of (basic) features and best sound quality on S8 as it's optimized for Samsung hardware. it doesn't have the feature from OP, however (yet).
BlackPlayer Music Player is good and free
BlackPlayer EX is better but paid.
It has a clean UI, lots of options available, and is very light. I had a 1st gen Moto G, which only has 1 GB of RAM and horrible memory management, and it was the only music app I found that wouldn't stop playing when I opened the browser, Maps, or similarly heavy apps.
I prefer BlackPlayer .
BlackPlayerEX for the pro! I bought it really cheap back few months
For local audio files i always liked BlackPlayer in terms of design an usability. It also has a nice equalizer.
I would not recommend using the stock music app, i find it kinda lackluster. Having the choice for things like this is the strong side of android, so take your time, play around with apps and find one to your liking.
On a sidenote: many people like an app called Poweramp. It is a real powerhouse but i really lacks on the design and usability department, so i would not recommend it. And before anyone comes up with settings and skins for it: this is why i would not recommend it for a beginner.

Et si tu veux un lecteur qui prend très peu de place (946k), Vanilla Music https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ch.blinkenlights.android.vanilla&hl=en
Another great music player is BlackPlayer. It's very full featured, runs at a consistent 60 fps and has a plethora of options where you can change themes, behaviour, animations etc. Basically a more modern equivalent of PowerAmp.
Phonograph has been recommended too, and while it's simple and colourful (and arguably nicer looking than blackplayer) I just can't switch back to it due to nifty BlackPlayer features like showing the next song in the notification and a decent metadata editor which can automatically get a cover with one click.
I'm using MusicBee on PC. It can sync your music library to your phone. It also has a 1-5 star ratings, in 0.5 intervals (you can rate 4.5 stars, 3.5, 2.5 and so on).
I'm using BlackPlayerEx on Android it only costs less than a dollar. Free version is available too. Playstore: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kodarkooperativet.blackplayerfree
Try BlackPlayer. I close the app and I also power down my phone, then when I get back to it, it remembers what I was playing at the exact timestamp.
Stock music player may be good but if you ever want to change, I super suggest BlackPlayer. Very feature-filled free version IIRC, and the paid version has way too many features actually :P
BlackPlayer is the absolute best... and it's totally free..I have been using it for over a year and a half now and no complaints what so ever
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kodarkooperativet.blackplayerfree
I've tried everything from poweramp, shuttle, phonograph and others but I've always gone back to BlackPlayer. It really hits the balance between customization, functionality and appearance.

Clear the cache for Google Play Music, and perhaps the thumbnail database as well, so that it can rebuild the information.
Personally, I would recommend a different music player for local music. Black Player is free, and beautifully designed, as an example.
Use Black Player, under Tracks view -> tap on sort icon -> select most played. Enable delete under options if you want to delete files. Black Player : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kodarkooperativet.blackplayerfree
Seconding Blackplayer.
Long time user, the dev is super responsive and it's updated frequently.
The EX version is worth it, imo.
Black player !
I Suggest the Blackplayer offline app to listen to music. The app has a simple UI, and enhances the music quality.
Best app I've found for playing music stored locally is BlackPlayer:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kodarkooperativet.blackplayerfree&hl=en
It can definitely do everything you're looking for and more.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kodarkooperativet.blackplayerfree&hl=en
Try using BlackPlayer. It's a music player for minimalists. IMO it's got nice animations and UI. You can also unlock some useful features when you upgrade to the EX version which doesn't cost that much.
Definitely BlackPlayer it's amazing and minimalistic beautiful design as for a file manager I use the stock it's not bad.
I try to use Spotify as much as possible but not everything is available there (exclusive albums, mixtapes, whatever). So I just download or buy them on iTunes and put them on my phone. I use iTunes and Spotify on my computer and BlackPlayer and Spotify on my Android phone.
I was an avid Shuttle+ user, but I was browsing the Saturday APPreciation thread on r/Android and someone recommended BlackPlayer Music Player. I tried it out and I love it. It has a very minimalistic design, uses about 54MB of RAM, and has a good amount of features, even in the free version. The EX version comes with more features and is only a dollar. I don't buy many apps, but this was hard to pass up for a dollar.
Thanks for responding. I saw a few websites mention BlackPlayer and finally tested it out.
It seems to work well, although I'm a bit confused about why it took over 5 minutes to load my songs and playlists when no other player needed to do that.

Attention all pixel 3xl users, I have found a solution to the issue. The buzzing is generated from frequencies between 20-500 mhz. So I found an app that allows you to control the amount of sound coming from each frequency. So I would recommend sliding down the second to left most slider in the equalizers a little bit in order to reduce the buzzing, and you can adjust to your liking. I bid you adieu. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kodarkooperativet.blackplayerfree
It can be done with BlackPlayer, I just tried.
Edit: also with Rocket
What I use, that works but I don't love, is Blackplayer.
You can play music on your phone, but it doesn't sync with google play, or at least I haven't found a way to make it work.
I use BlackPlayer. Its a great player with lots of features and plays AAC files without a problem.
I actually switched to this when the stock player on my Oneplus One was able to play AAC tracks, but would ignore track numbering and listed tracks alphabetically instead. BlackPlayer had no such problems.
Blackplayer Free Version or Paid Version
I use an app called BlackPlayer as my music player. It supports downloading tags/album art or editing it yourself.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kodarkooperativet.blackplayerfree
I am fairly sure it only does ads on the streaming section. Might try going to downloaded only and seeing if you are getting this.
That being said google music is a great streaming service but a shit player for your own music. Maybe try this or something else of your choosing.
Honestly with android there is always a better option than just assuming the default. It might be that you come back to the default but I would recommend always trying 2-3 apps of the same thing to find what you want.
I faced the same paradigm shift when I switched to Android. After a very long search (and hours of experimentation) I found BlackPlayer. There is the pro version (BlackPlayer EX) for $2.95 USD. I don't remember the differences between the two because of how long I've used BlackPlayer EX. It will take a couple of minutes to detect them, but BlackPlayer will continuously scan for new media files on your device.
Nah I've had it for a few years now so I wouldn't call it new, here's a link if you want to check it out...

If you want something new and a bit fresh, I might recommend my current favorite BlackPlayer, though the recent Encore shows promise with it's extension system.

Black Player for sure
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kodarkooperativet.blackplayerfree
and the totally worth it paid version for the very few that aren't cheaping out on their hundreds of dollars expensive devices on an app they likely use daily ;)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kodarkooperativet.blackplayerex
You'll need to manually write the track and disc numbers into the song's metadata. I don't think Samsung Music has that functionality so you'll need to try another app such as BlackPlayer to edit the metadata.
You can download a music player app which automatically finds music on your phone and let's you listen (with the screen off).
There's quite a few on the Play Store but I like something minimal like Black player - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kodarkooperativet.blackplayerfree
I'm still on Android 8.1, but I noticed that this seems to depend on music applications? At first I was using Blackplayer and it didn't allow browsing in the BT menu as you say (though you could control stuff like next song just fine from the car), but after installing Android Auto I had to switch my players around (since it didn't have AA interface) and it (mostly) works on PlayerPro. So I guess my suggestion is - try a different player?
I've since switched to BlackPlayer as my offline music player. Supposedly it works, but I haven't tried it.

PRO version is really cheap. Totally worth the money.
BlackPlayer music for the widget, and pixel icon pack.
<strong>BlackPlayer</strong> has a recently played option. I sometimes use a different player to avoid losing my place in an album. Or use <strong>Parallel Space</strong> to run your music app in
I guess it's a bug then. You could at least try if BlackPlayer plays .flac files on your device. I might have linked you the paid version. Here's the free one.
I'm not exactly sure what you mean, but you can try "BlackPlayer". It's a very well designed music player.
It does have a free and paid version, but the free version gives you the option of turning off ads at the cost of a few themes and maybe a few options.
I highly recommend buying it though :)
Edit: linkme blackplayer
Edit 2: Free Version
I use Blackplayer and it has lock screen album art plus a bunch of other great features.
Highly recommended.
Power amp unfortunately doesn't play well with the S7 Edge and nougat. The audio is very quiet compared to the rest of the phone for some reason. I'd recommend Blackplayer(ex) as a good alternative.
Black Player I think is one of the best because is fully customizable (crossfade, lyrics etc) and it is also free
Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kodarkooperativet.blackplayerfree
How will you move them then? Can you just plug your iPhone into a Pc and do it?
once you finish that step, you can simply add them to an android and move them around files as in PC
The best 2 free music players are:
I always hope for a fix of that Google shit. Anyway, I use a music player that has no "sync" properties and it's very simple. It's called "BlackPlayer"
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kodarkooperativet.blackplayerfree
Blackplayer is pretty good and minimalistic. It's very lightweight because of the lack of fancy features but is customizable at the same time. Has features like gapless playback and crossfade if you're interested. And of course it's free and ad-free.
I try to use Spotify as much as possible but not everything is available there (exclusive albums, mixtapes, whatever). So I just download or buy them on iTunes and put them on my phone. I use iTunes and Spotify on my computer and BlackPlayer and Spotify on my Android phone.
Glad to see you mention Poweramp; I had been a die-hard Poweramp user for several years. However, I recently switched over to BlackPlayer and haven't looked back. It features most of the functionality of Poweramp, but it really brings it home with the intuitive, clean UI. Poweramp's UI/UX is very dated and I got tired of it.
Looking at the services stats seven and a half hours later won't be good.
Icons from left to right:
BlackPlayer Music. Was not using it overnight.
Bluetooth for Pebble smartwatch, battery drain non-noticeable since I started using it.
NFC for Smart Unlock since I don't have a thumbprint, so this is the second best thing to open my phone. No noticeable drain.
Get yourself some Black Player and forget about Poweramp. The EX version is among my most cherished purchased apps.
I always keep Lucky Patcher handy on the sdcard because of stupid license checks when flying. Tactic Trainer tried to fuck me once with license shit while on a redeye, 9 hours from internets, and I fucked it right back with LP.
My main go to app is Blackplayer.
As much as I would like to use the stock music player, it doesn't have certain features that I would like to have (like gapless).
Haven't really uploaded anything in awhile but feel free to check it out. For the music player I used BlackPlayer.
OK so once again I have found the best music player ever (before I've used apollo plus, shuttle and then phonograph): I present to you BlackPlayer.
First of all, I've never ever seen it drop a frame. On my N5 filled up with music, UI performance generally isn't great (especially not in music apps). Play music frequently decides to take a break for a second, and while other music apps are better, they're not flawless either
As the name implies, it has a dark UI which looks very simple and minimalistic at first glance, but it reveals tons of options if you long-click on a track/album or if you tap the title or artist in the "Now playing" screen. Amongst those options are a full ID3 tag editor, sharing of the mp3 file, jumping to artist or album and everything around playlists you might desire.
To get to the current queue, just swipe right from the now playing screen, and to skip tracks you can swipe up or down on the album cover.
There are tons of settings too, like various animations for swiping between screens (just like launchers), a few themes, options on how to display albums etc, fonts, pause on unplug, gapless playback etc.
Last but not least, it has a simple widget with playback controls, song title and artist name as well as cover art which actually fucking works and reacts in an instant, even if the app is completely closed.
Play store link (it's free!)
BlackPlayer dragged me away from Shuttle. Great app.
Have you tried BlackPlayer? I really like it

Here are some options that doesn't have any ads. Some have IAP, but you can use the free version without any ads.
Blackplayer - Free , but you can buy ex version if you want.
Im personally a fan of Black Music Player, it has a clean look without the colorful look of the other players.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kodarkooperativet.blackplayerfree
Please check out BlackPlayer. One of the most feature rich music player IMHO.
I like BlackPlayer a lot. Pretty basic, but it seems to work well.
It's free but also has a payed version with a few more options available
Pulsar Music player [Free]
Phonograph[Free,iap]
Shuttle[Free/paid]
Gonemad music player[14 days trial/paid]
These apps don't have any ads in their free version & all works fine. I will recommend shuttle & pulsar if you want free option for temporary use for your vacation.

Shuttle[Free/paid]
Gonemad music player[paid]

There are some other players , but they have ads in their free version , but these apps don't have any ads in their free version.
Also check paid options like N7 player , player pro, poweramp , rocket music player. ( Check skins for these apps , if you like the skins , try these apps )
If you want free apps that don't have any ads, use - pulsar , phonograph
You can try using BlackPlayer. It has a good UI and other customisations. Also, the developers are responsive!
Since I actually made the same switch as you did (itunes -> musicbee, iphone -> android) I'll give this one an answer.
There is supposed to be a way to use a sync feature in the program similar to itunes', but I've never been able to get it to work. I always have to manually drag and drop all my music files, playlists etc. into the directory on my Pixel that reads Music. I don't believe it will sync play count, however, as that tends to be app-specific.
There's loads of full-featured music player apps on the play store, I used blackplayer in the past but currently I'm loving retro music player. I've had no problem with any song metadata being lost in the transition between musicbee and those two apps. An added bonus, in my opinion, is how easily musicbee handles getting hi-res audio file formats like flac, aac, and ogg onto my phone. I don't believe itunes played nice with trying to sync those types of files to my old iphone.
I wouldn't call myself a power-user in musicbee, because it can certainly do quite a lot for you. The main features I use constantly are auto-fetching album information ~~from my totally legal album downloads~~, the equalizer, and and burning CDs. It's pretty intuitiv~~e once you find a skin and a layout you like, which takes ti~~me and I've never had a problem with it crashing or randomly eating the driver needed to use the sync feature in the first place like itunes did for me.
So to answer your question, no it doesn't exactly give you the super easy syncing process itunes does. However, as a music player and as a piece of software that can manage my massive music library, I find it far superior to itunes in all regards.
fwiw, here's my layout as well, or at least what I've found works best for me
Black Player may have what you need. There's a lot of customization options.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kodarkooperativet.blackplayerfree
For local music files. These apps should work. (If music file is playable on your PC, then It will play using these apps.)
Retro music player - It has ios+material look. It's in beta version. But you might like it's look.
I really like BlackPlayer : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kodarkooperativet.blackplayerfree&hl=en

You should try BlackPlayer !
That's the free version, which is probably enough for a music player. But all small details included with the EX Version are really good (reordering and hiding pages was the killer feature for me...and the transparency/blur). I actually fell in love so much with the free version that I had to buy the EX version before the first song ended.
Try it!

There are lots of music apps, but I prefer Black Player, which includes a free and paid version. It has a feature to automatically download album/artist images but you can also do it manually if it has trouble finding something. I believe it can import playlists, but haven't tested that.
Just a note, to get paid apps for free, install Google Rewards and answer surveys (honestly or not) to get app store credit. Never pay for apps again!
Black Player and most other music apps will automatically find any media on your phone. A handy trick to prevent music apps from seeing non-music media files (like ringtones) you can save a ".nomedia" file to any folder and the music players will ignore that folder. Instructions here
Doesn't have any synchronization for pc but black player is a good app.
