>"One time," Mazzone said with a laugh, "he said to me, 'Come on out and visit me. I haven't seen you [on the mound] in a couple of months.' He said, 'You know, Leo, it gets kind of lonely out there. So why don't you come out and visit me in the sixth inning.' "So sure enough, he's shutting out the Mets, and he looks in the dugout with one out in the sixth. And Bobby [Cox] says to me, 'Mad Dog is looking for you. Go out there and make sure he's all right.' So I go out there and he says, 'I'm glad you came out. My catcher doesn't speak English. I'm tired of talking to Chipper. So it was nice of you to come out here. You got anything you need to ask me?' And I said, 'Yeah, you planning on going seven tonight or all nine?'"

Perhaps my favorite story about Mad Dog. Much better than the tales of him peeing in hot tubs and what not.
Per Jim Bowden of ESPN: >With the Braves Farm System loaded with top pitching prospects and Black's long successful track record of handling, developing and procuring arms, he certainly appears to be the best fit of all the candidates they've interviewed to date. Black's ability to win one run games in his previous stint as San Diego Padres skipper helps as well. Black also has a strong personal and professional relationship with team President John Hart. Black has exceptional people skills and relates well with both field and front office personnel.
I posted this a few days ago and it was met with some controversy. Looking back at the trades we've made since the rebuild began, its obvious that the FO is mostly focused on pitching. That being said, I'm sure their logic is to find the best manager available to develop the plethora of top pitching prospects they've acquired, and it looks like Bud Black might be that guy.
I looked up the "doctor" who diagnosed him. It makes no sense to me why an orthopedist would be diagnosing anything to do with the eyes. He isn't an orthopedist. He does not have a MD or DO degree. He is a physical therapist with a PhD, so he can technically get away with having people call him "doctor", but I personally think that it is a violation of medical ethics and something that he should lose his license over. When you call yourself a doctor in a setting with patients, people are going to assume that it means you have a MD or DO, and it is incredibly misleading for someone with a PhD to introduce themselves as doctor without specifying the kind of degree that they have.
That says pretty much everything you need to know. Its actually fun to contrast the timeline of that with TWX Historical Stock Price
P.S the opening day salaries of the 4 teams playing in this year's Championship Series are #2(LAD), #4(BOS), #5(DET), and the (relatively) thrifty #11 (StL).
Home market games. It's been that way since it was created. It blacks out games that are being shown in your market. It's the same with every streaming sports service, not just MLB.
Anyways, you can easily get around it using a VPN. I have Private Internet Access and use it to get around any MLB/NFL blackouts I may encounter.
seeing a lot of comments about streaming and blackouts. If you have just use the Zenmate Chrome extension. It's completely free.
(protip: you can turn it off after the stream loads, for max bandwidth)
This other dude calling the game has a voice that just sounds like he should be stopping every few lines to plug NordVPN, Blue Apron, Hello Fresh, Square space, and dollar shave club. Just a random common podcaster voice.
When the Bravos play around my market I use a VPN to tell my pc I'm not in the market anymore and then just cast it like normal. It can cost so that's something that has to be factored in, but you should have some savings to dedicate to watching the bravos now that you've cut the cord. I recommend Private Internet Access but you should ask around to see what works best for you.
Not an Atlanta native, but as long as you stay at a hotel on the marta line then it's whatever you want. Try Airbnb instead of a hotel.
The one thing I'd definitely recommend is to go to the Sweetwater Brewery and do the tour/beer tastings.
I feel you. I travel all week so I use this. Shouldn't have the blackout problem Here in Texas where I am this summer but lo and behold there it is. About 60% of the time. Zenmate on chrome. On Mobile sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. Weird.
Add Crasnick and McAlpin to the list of reporters picking Snit. https://twitter.com/KevinMcAlpin/status/785573319630213120 > @KevinMcAlpin - As I said Friday, I don’t think the McDowell news has any bearing on #Braves decision at manager. I think Snit will get the job.

There’s a large storm cell passing over Atlanta right now. Looks like it’ll last a little while and (hopefully) pass over, I’m just not sure how long it’ll take.
Friday looks OK, Saturday and Sunday or iffy.
**Actually, I was looking wrong. Friday & Saturday should be OK if the wind doesn't hurt anything.

It's Glavine, Justice and McGriff
Two very promising bullpen arms. I'm especially excited to see what Morris can do since Coppy pulled some Voodoo magic to get him.
Let's hope this doesn't happen again.
I can't find a reference image or video of Phyllis from the Office saying, " I have diabetes too. You don't see me making a big deal about it.".
Download SecurityKISS tunnel. It's a free VPN. To get around national backouts choose the international servers. Turn the VPN on when you are loading the game and logging in. Turn it off when you are done logging in and it's done checking location. Don't switch back and forth between games because it will check location again. Proxy servers are too troublesome at times and there are plenty of free VPN services.
Astrill VPN is what I got. I got the 6 months plan which is up to October. Make sure if you get it to check the option for OpenVPN. This will allow you to connect to out of market areas. Its a great deal because it boils down to $1 a game if you get the MLB package + VPN.
decided to add this to my hat for <$10 rather than buy any new merch. i plan to keep it in until we're no longer defending champs, so maybe till 2030? for anyone interested, i got it here and there are even some working promo codes out there!
Haha... I hear ya. It's still hot. But it does START to cool off and the scientifically "oppressive" humidity starts dialing back as well.

The All-Star game shows up on there but looks like ESPN doesn't want to share coverage for the Derby. You should be able to get ESPN with a SlingTV trial. Worst case there should be a decent stream available somewhere.
Yeah, I think the sports leagues are one of the only things keeping the cable tv/satellite in business. Well, sports leagues and the older generations. Take a look at the Sling packages, you might find something that works and is cheaper than cable/satellite packages.
If you are home by 11ish and don't mind staying up they always do a replay right after the game. There is also another replay at 6am. If you don't have FoxSportsGo you can signup for a SlingTV trial and login to FoxSportsGo with it. And as /u/mrellenburg there are replays available and they currently have the two Blue Jay games available so you have a day or two to watch the replay.
My fix: watch games on mlb.tv app on playstation (workaround blackouts with unlocator), hit triangle for audio options, select WCNN radio feed. Syncs perfectly with the game.
Bonus: my 5-yr-old loves the Cook's Pest Control jingle!
You can play the radio broadcast through your Alexa and manually sync with the TV. The audio is a little behind, so just pause the TV when the ball hits the mit and restart it when you hear it on the radio.
https://www.amazon.com/Sports-Radio-680-The-Fan/dp/B07FKLM22N
You can also stream the broadcast on your phone and connect to a sound bar, etc via Bluetooth.
There are other options, but these are easy.
I got mine on amazon for my cat.

I subscribe to Private Internet Access (PIA). No real reason why, except that it was on sale Black Friday a few years ago and it had good reviews back then. With that being said, I probably should check out reviews again and make sure they aren't selling my info now.
Ditch the VPN and get a DNS redirecter. The VPN forces you to use their speeds. The DNS redirecter uses your connection but fakes the location to . Not sure how much you're paying for PIA VPN, but is $4.95/month and you might even be able to hit them up for a discount code if you e-mail them at
I see PIA VPN is $6.95 per month. Unlocator is cheaper and they actually have their own VPN option in there also. I wouldn't use it for though, just use the DNS method and you shouldn't have lag.
I personally use NordVPN but you may want to check out /r/VPN for other suggestions that might cater to your needs more specifically. Most of the popular ones provide a client you can run to enable the VPN connection without needing to make manual adjustments to your router, network settings or applications.
My favorite VPN is Private Internet Access (PIA). It's only $7 a month and easier to use than other VPN's I've tried before. VPN will lower your quality of video due to speed issues but once you're connected to the feed you can disconnect and the video will go high quality.
I'm out of market and already purchased MLB TV for the season, but I would like to point out you can also sign up for any number of VPNs that will allow you get around blackouts that are cheaper than $5/month.
I use Private Internet Access, it's $39.95/year. I use it to get around MLB /NFL blackouts as well as to do all my torrenting.
See the proxy guide.
I live in DC and use . The only time the games are blacked out is if they're playing the Nats (I go to the park if its in DC), the rare occasion they play the Orioles, or if it's a game that FOX or ESPN has exclusive rights to (pretty rare).
To get around it I use a VPN from Private Internet Access (). It's super convenient, only cost $40/year. You can select what region of the country or a number of international locations you want your IP to show up as. I use it for getting around and Sunday Ticket blackouts as well as when downloading certain torrents.
you should invest in one of these or similar. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001ECQOO4
listened for a bit and had a lot of breath/spit sounds going through the mic.
unfortunate that there's no good way to get synced with the video. I was on mlbtv as well and was ahead of you like 30-60 seconds.
I got this one. It also works as a veggie steamer, although I haven't done that yet. Just add rice and water and push a button, and it beeps when it's done.

I live in SW Georgia. Why they wanna blackout their fans. Makes no sense. Atleast the VPN has worked the entire game since I started watching in the 5th or 6th. NordVPN, highly recommend in conjunction with MLb tv
I just used some dinky one called Free VPN and connected to England. Only gives you a few options of places but it worked. I'll link it Free VPN
Hmmm... Cheap? I'm sure there's some cheap ones out there. I use ExpressVPN because I used Android TVs and it's in the Play Store. Drop dead simple for my purposes and the cost isn't overly prohibitive.
When I was growing up, the number two hitter was always a scrappy middle-infielder who would hit behind the runner, put the ball in play, and had no power, a lot like Lemke and Blauser.
But that all started to change when Bill James wrote Historical Baseball Abstract and started what became known as sabermetrics.
In 2006, a few smart guys picked up where he left off and wroteThe Book, and they really dove into lineup optimization based off of the raw statistics.
The Books says the #2 hitter comes to bat in situations about as important as the #3 hitter, but more often. That means the #2 hitter should be better than the #3 guy, and one of the best three hitters overall. And since he bats with the bases empty more often than the hitters behind him, he should be a high-OBP player.
This has been widely discussed by more than just these guys, to the point it’s been almost universally accepted in baseball.
Votto, Trout, Miggy, have been batting two for what seems like a decade, waayyy before Freddie.. and really to the point where snit was mocked constantly for continuing to stubbornly put arguably our best hitters in a spot where, at best, your 4th best hitter should be. When he finally did in 2020, it was almost a relief that I wouldn’t have to read another comment on r/Braves lamenting the fact Freddie is batting 3rd and seeing people argue how much or how little it actually matters.
So it kinda seems weird to hear people say Freddie started it.
app with a vpn. You can get a free subscription if you have t-mobile (this years offer is expired), or if you are a season ticket holder. Otherwise I think it’s $100, or $120 for a whole year. I use NordVPN and I can watch it straight off of my fire stick.
I set up a specific router that runs NordVPN and the rokus all over the house are connected to that router. I don't have a problem streaming on my laptop or casting that to a tv but my mom is not technologically savvy so that means she can just turn the tv on, turn the roku on, go to the mlb app and boom.
It was easy to set up the first time I did it because the router I bought (asus rt-ac51u) was directly compatible with NordVPN. However, we moved and when I went to reset it up Nord updated the OpenVPN version they use to 3.2.## (iirc) and the only firmware versions I could find for the router only supported OpenVPN 3.1.## so I had to flash the router with a third party software. If you want to go that route I'm happy to talk you through it more because I spent a whole Saturday figuring it out >.<
Good luck!
I don’t think Sinclair will. I read a big write up on that deal and they have no incentive to take less $$$. They have billions wrapped up in the regional sports networks. They get a premium by being exclusive, so our recourse is to get NordVPN. Hell, 2 years of NordVPN is less than 1-month of any plan with Bally’s.
I know this is a late reply, but I just found this thread while researching. How much did your VPN cost you? I don’t mind the $100-$125 MLBtv itself, but all the reliable VPNs I found (like NordVPN) would bring that up to something like $180. Are there cheaper reliable ones out there?
Probably the wrong place to ask this but I just got espn+ and MLB TV. I bought NordVPN and couldn’t go the router route so changed my labtop to 10 different locations and after every attempt it keep redirecting my espn+ back to the US edition and blacking out the game. Am I doing something wrong or can anyone shed some light for me. Hoping I didn’t just throw $150 for nordvpn for nothing
ExpressVPN and NoLagVPN are two I’ve heard of a lot. I have the NoLagVPN personally and I don’t even bother with mlb tv but they’re relatively simple to use.
Mine just has an icon in the bottom right of the task bar (where the volume, time, etc. is) and I right click it, click connect, choose the region, and then it takes like 2.5 seconds
I’ve used ExpressVPN with no complaints. They have a Firestick app for it that I use every time I stream through my TV. It works flawlessly. It also has worked without issue on my iPhone, iPad, and computers.
I would simply just open it on my laptop/desktop in my office and as long as you have a clear line to the tv, signal shouldn’t be an issue. Then in my chrome tab I hit the “…” (the page where you can select history, downloads, etc. not sure what it’s called it’s just a drop down) in the top right corner. There should be an option to “cast” and then select the device. Never had a problem after that.
This also applies to u/kiloRH he asked a similar question.
For VPNS though you will need to change it up from time to time. Like if we play in DC you can’t use the USA location on ExpressVPN because it would subject to blackout restrictions, so then I switch it to Toronto, etc.
I also use NORDVPN. It's pretty straight forward to set it up, this one was what I used to get through set up and it works great.
Do you experience any latency when using VPN coverage and then shooting video over to Chromecast?
Last year I ran NordVPN and and had some lag issues. Let me point out that I did use an HDMI straight from laptop to TV and not Chromecast/Screen Mirroring, so that could be where my lag came in although I thought it would be faster.
Either way just putting the laptop on the coffee table and watching was more than enough.
Depends on what you have and how you want to watch. I use NordVPN ($3 a month) which I can't put the app on my Roku which is what I use to watch the games. My router also doesn't allow me to install the NordVPN firmware so I can't setup my wireless to go through a VPN so I just have the app on my PC, and then use it as a hotspot to connect my Roku in a roundabout way of fooling the IP.
If you use an Amazon fire stick I think you can just download the Nord app and use it directly though. Just Google how to setup VPN for and you'll get step by step instructions depending on your setup.

I bought them for both the Braves and Dawgs, and each arrived in about a week.
I bought this one off of Amazon. Currently hanging in my office.

But those fans are the ones you want right?
There's a movie called The Break-Up. It's kind of a chick flick about a relationship falling apart, which is fine, whatever. But, there's a scene where the two main guys go to Wrigley Field to watch a game. One guy is a Cubs fan and the other one is a Sox fan, but they sit together in the Cubs section. Every time the Cubs screw up the guy laughs or stands up and claps while everyone glares at him. It's hilarious. Easily the highlight of the film.
Oh you know what. This is the internet. Here you go.

Sort of, but it only masks location. Any better description than that is above my pay grade (Check for more info here). But I use it & it works fine - Braves/Nats is usually blacked out here in RVA.
Local broadcasters, like SportsSouth, have a no-compete clause that prevents MLB.tv from showing games in their respective regions.
The whole Southeast is pretty much blacked out for Braves games.
There are ways to get around this, such as changing your wi-fi router's DNS settings.
I'm my case, I have several wireless routers running my house. My family and I can browse domestically using the regular wireless.
My other router (an old Linksys), I've flashed DD-WRT which is an open source firmware with lots of features that wouldn't be otherwise available.
One of those features is OpenVPN which allows the VPN tunnel to be stood up on the networking layer, such that every device that connects to that wireless accesses the internet through the tunnel.
Understandably, hacking on a spare router is a little more advanced, but I like the convenience of no using a vpn software client. I can switch from VPN to domestic browsing just by connecting to a different wifi.
I use these for my UGA papers. They aren't fancy but they look nice enough and are the cheapest I could find.
I have a firewalla gold and you can set certain devices to a VPN. Put my NordVPN login and chose a server outside of Atlanta, with my smart TV set to go through it. No extra hoops, just turn it on, open the mlbtv app (I use a google chrome cast with the remote - the new one) and it just plays. Super easy, have multiple TVs and devices set to do this.

There’s literally a whole chapter in a book about this and Snit is the case study.
Austin came out so hot but then pitchers saw that he couldn’t hit breaking balls. I hope he turns it around soon. As far as VPN, used ExpressVPN and put my location in Seattle. Seemed to work well enough.

Maybe order from Walmart online to have it reserved for you?
Fair question. I think genocide is universally offensive. Although, I will admit to laughing repeatedly at Bill Burr's population control jokes, particularly the one where he says we should randomly take out cruise ships.
You know the reason why that's funny? It's because cruises are expensive and people who tend to go on them are kind of the epitome of wastefulness, just eating and shitting everywhere on a boat. They can therefore be the butt of jokes until the end of time. If, on the other hand, Bill Burr tried to make a joke about taking out flotillas of migrant refugees in the Mediterranean, his career would probably end quickly. Those migrants are a vulnerable population of people who need help. It just isn't funny no matter how to spin it.
Now, I understand that Native Americans are not currently in such a dire state. However, the political situation with Native Americans depends on the acknowledgment of their culture and their sovereignty. It's a sensitive situation. It's not cut and dry. It's not one guy's word over another. Yes, they do have protections under the law, but are their leaders done negotiating? No. Constant lobbying is going on. Why do you think this mascot thing keeps coming up every year? It's usually during the playoffs, when the Braves come under national attention. Every single year. Why is this happening? It's because of the delicate political situation with the Native Americans. I cannot possibly explain it here. All I can say is that you would do yourself a service by reading up on it. You might want to start with Howard Zinn's A People's History of the United States.
What I’ve done isn’t cheap. but I have and NordVPN. I got a VPN to scramble my location to another country to bypass most blackout restrictions so I can use all the time on my computer and phone.
Only on PC I believe. Doesn’t work on Apple Tab, mobile, etc. last I checked.
And since I’m in Braves TV market it’s lots of extra cost to steam even that. Would have to pay for (currently only use $20/yr At Bat Premium for the audio and daily free game) and have to pay $5/month for Unlocator to be able to stream the games in market.
That’s a lot of work and extra $ just to listen to the radio team with TV broadcast. On my computer.
Zenmate is great (don't ever use Hola), but I do believe Zenmate will slow down your connection a bit. Might be wrong and it might not make much of a difference. Worth a shot first though since it's free.
Click the link, NordVPN is running a special right now for a year of service for $4 a month. If you are a Windows user, there is a client you can download that allows you to select which VPN gateway you would like to use.
I'm using linux which requires openvpn, but that is purely a personal choice.
They have servers all over the world, but for MLB you will need a US server. I generally connect to one in Chicago, but since they were playing the Cubs, I connected through New Jersey.
See my previous post here.
Also, Unlocator is working like a charm so far.
Super easy setup, works on just about every major device. I highly recommend it.
Unlocator just seems drastically easier to use. I tried to check on VPNs as well when l first looked into this, but I just felt so uneasy about it. Kind of assumed it would slow my network speed down too...
Sure. I use Unlocator. So if I want to watch the Braves I just change whatever device I want to watch on, iPad, Roku, etc to Router B's connection. This is good for devices like phones, tablets, game consoles. If you're just using your laptop then Hola Unblocker is much easier.
I live in Buffalo, NY and we are blacked out for Mets/Yankees (but we have both of their broadcasting stations, SNY and YES on basic cable), Cleveland, and Pittsburgh. Though I don't think we are blacked out for Toronto which we are obviously much closer too.
There are ways around it. We are a big hockey town, but I know many that get NHL Gamecenter live and use stuff like Unblock-Us for it.
I had one of those 80-90s style big head cartoon baseball card of his, and he was mid-step in his batting swing. Some reason, I remembered that one particular card. Seems like 15 years later he was a brave and I was a grown ass man.
Oh look, I could buy it for a buck!!

1) In fact, it is not sitting on anything! I installed one of these and then added one of these. That, plus a Chromecast makes it super easy and fast to put the TV outside or move it back in! Now I just need to add an outdoor power outlet, right now I'm still running an extension cord.
2) I bought it on NewEgg. I actually have 2 of their TVs and so far (had them for about a year) both have performed admirably!
Are you in the immediate Atlanta metro area? If so, get a digital HD antenna and watch them over the air. I'm assuming they are all broadcast locally.
Something like this. I'm not in or around Atlanta but I would definitely assume the games are broadcast locally OTA.
