Turn on Always On Display. Go to Settings and click on Display.. then enable Always On Display
Turn in Sidelight. Go to Settings, and then App and Notifications, and then click on Notifications, and then enable Sidelight.
Sidelight is very similar to the LED notifications on Samsung.. it will flash immediately all around the edge of the screen if there is a notification from any app (including 3rd party apps) which the color will depend on the app. The Always on Display will show your notifications all the time so you can see which app it is.. kinda better than the LED notification blinking lights if you asked me. Both of these settings together should help replace the LED notification from Samsung.
If you STILL want the LED notification, there's also a 3rd party app that will display a dot on the screen which acts like the LED notification like Samsung. It will move around to prevent screen burn in.. it's customizable too. Since the display is OLED, it will look just like the LED blinking notification light on Samsung. Note, you will have to tweak the settings right to get it to work! And also manually add the app or function you want for it to show: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ledblinker
I use this one: Spigen Rugged Armor Designed for LG V40 ThinQ Case (2018) - Black
It's slim, grippy, and I think it looks pretty decent.
Yeah that must be frustrating. Seems like LG they dropped the ball for their European customers. Supposedly, rumors are surfacing that a few LG V40 Euro variants are on the way. https://www.gsmarena.com/lg_v40_thinq_to_arrive_in_europe-news-34511.php
I'm angry at them because as of right now, the bootloader is still locked for the US Unlocked variant. My replacement V10 (refurbished unit) is also on its way out so I hope the bootloader is unlocked soon for either the yet announced Euro variant or the US unlocked variant before it breaks again!
Mmmmh not necessarily. Plenty of tests have found the V40's battery life is far behind that of the V30/V35.
The V30 lasts 93h in GSMArena's Endurance Test, while the V40 64h. That's massive.
https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=8712&idPhone2=9300#diff-*,*,*
You can't put much trust in apps like that, they're just making an assumption. Plus they take a while to learn your battery since every phones battery is a little different depending on number of charge cycles, the temperature the phone has been, and charging rates. Fast chargers wear out a battery more than just about anything else. Best bet is it get a USB meter. I have this one and you'd be surprised what you find. I've ran around the house measuring just about everything that's USB powered.

I got this glass protector from Amazon. It's not full coverage which is fine with me because there's no risk of the side edges lifting off when used with a case. Perfectly happy with it.
Duh! All the reviews on Amazon complained about this issue, only.reason I went for another case, which I really like. What you could do to possibly solve it is use a blade and make it so the flash circle merges into the camera partition of the case... Or simply return it.
Last week, there were discount codes for the Ringke Fusion case (also a clear case), got mine for under $4 (now back to $10 on Amazon). It looks bulky in photos, but it's actually not. It's slim, I don't have the flash issue.
Edit: these are the cases I bought LG V40 ThinQ/LG V40 Storm (Black Brushed TPU) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GXJNT34

I purchased one of these on Amazon, works great to enable FM Radio without having to plug in headphones if you want to listen with the speaker.

Yes bro, it has a 3.5mm jack.. probably the best Chinese flagship killer available.. Super low cost but still has top of the line hardware. If I didn't have the V40 already, I'd probably get this.
Thanks for the link. I read that the extension jack method only activates the AUX mode and that if you want the high impedance mode (which is even louder and crisper) then we would need to use an 80 ohm impedance plug (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FMG8144?ref=ppx\_pop\_mob\_ap\_share&th=1) with it. Have you heard of this method or tried it? Thoughts?
> did Verizon remove it for some reason?
Unfortunately it wouldn't surprise me that verizon would neuter the OS.
I would do a few more searched and see if there is something that pops up but it very well could be that they got rid of it. I know my tmo phone doesn't have things like the System UI tuner, which sucks.
If you really can't find it after some more searching... try IFTTT to replicate the behavior. There should be some prebuilt recipes for what you're trying to do and if there aren't, it doesn't have a very high learning curve. If you are unfamiliar, basically it's an automation engine https://ifttt.com/ with a companion app for the phone.
Are you able to insert the transmitter's cable all the way in? Do you have a case on that may be preventing full insertion?
I have a pack of these, use them on a couple devices that aren't able to plug in all the way. Solves this issue for me at least.

Included is a video to show how dark it actually is.
Its definitely, as noted by others, using hdr mode plus long exposure which is why you have to hold it so still. Definitely still in beta.
Taken during extreme fog in Audubon Park in New Orleans.
Thanks !
So do you confirm that works without lags, and on all 5 cameras ? Please could you try my .xml file, i'd like to know if works on A10.

So yeah the Mr. Shields were absolute garbage. Bubbles on the edge that could not get worked out after trying for an hour. Went through 2 of them trying and gave up and used some UV adhesive I had for screen protectors and put one on. Because of the adhesive already on the protector it caused a loss of some color but over all it was fine. Didn't last, by the next morning the edges were coming up. I decided to buy a Poetic Guardian case with a built in screen protector. Works great. Has a little color loss, the very edge has a tiny bit of touch sensitivity loss but it is not very bad and it does rest on the screen in one corner that you can see when the screen is off(can be seen in Amazon review pics). The only complaint is that it is a plastic protector and I worry that wouldn't save the screen if it drops on it. But I feel satisfied with it.

If you get a USB-C dock you can connect a mouse and keyboard to use your phone as a full desktop. Also if you download a costume desktop launcher like "computer launcher"(https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.protheme.launcher.winx.launcher&hl=en_US&gl=US) you can run it in on top of "screen+ to get some better customization but still keep the windows and multi-tasking. Or use something like "sentio desktop", if you just want to use it more like a tablet. Although I recommend a touch-supported screen for that.
This is the best screen protector I've had and it's not even close. Lifetime warranty too, and I know a few people who have had to use it - questions asked, just given a new screen protector. https://www.amazon.com/ZAGG-Invisible-Shield-Clarity-Protector/dp/B08JPRG6ZJ
This one works on my G8. Should work on the Pixel. You get extra usb. hdmi out. And you can charge the phone while in use. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07RW343WG/ref=cm\_sw\_em\_r\_mt\_dp\_JF5MSSDCYP3BPYRGPAEQ?\_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
> so changing from one phone (V40) to the other (V20) when I am in US and IT looks to be a pain
I have very easily moved my whole setup from the V20 to the G8X and then V60 using LG Backup/LG Switch and backup/restore to/from microSD, However doing the same from V60 to V50 went awkwardly poorly. So going up is easy, going down not always. At least not V60 to V50.
> So I'm quickly concluding I need a dual-SIM phone.
Ideal, US-capable dualsim phones are hard to find. E.g. the European dualsim G8X (no 5G) does not support the T-Mobile bands 66 and 71:
Would a small helper phone not work for you (like my Jelly2). It has been mostly great as a data hotspot for my G8X (to test single-sim), V60 and V50 to use data with my ES-sim. I also receive calls on it when I am in Spain. In the Netherlands (like your US) I can probably keep it at home. Then you could retire your V20 and keep it at home.
> where are you in Spain?
In the north: Huesca, Huesca, Aragon.
> We're in northern Tuscany in IT and looking forward to getting back there late August.
Must be great now travelling is easier! We are usually in the Netherlands during the Madrid-like hot summer months.

Would you think this is a good deal for a used LG V40 unlocked model LM-V405QA7 on OfferUp. He said he would take $250 & it comes with a bunch of extra goodies. Check out this $300 OR BEST OFFER! Unlocked LG V40 & accsessories for $300 on OfferUp https://offerup.com/item/detail/884387757/ It appears to have all the bands for T-Mobile LTE 2,4,5,12,66 & 71.
He says its in good overall condition but has a small Nick on one corner of the phone. I've seen them on eBay/Amazon too for right around $200 but I thought at $250 it's a great deal? I did compare this with the LG V50 & most specs are very similar except the V50 has bigger battery, more memory & newer processor. Plus 5G but I really don't care much about that as 4G LTE seems to work for what I need it to do.
I would be upgrading from my V30 to the V40 or should I wait to get a V50 still? I'm sure they will be on the $200-300 range soon ish? Thanks for checking this out and have a great day.
When just got home from work I tested speeds again. I live in the country off a hwy. Att def been improving there 4g lte around here. Check out my Speedtest result! How fast is your internet? https://www.speedtest.net/my-result/a/4650489857
Can't take a picture right now. But I used This film . I then used this glass protector. Since the film covers everything and the glass doesn't (just the screen) you can tell it has 2 protectors. Doesn't bother me but idk about you.
Well I guess you hate the default theme, you could go in the Google Play store and download and install themes.. some are free, others aren't. There's a Google Pixel theme which makes the phone look like a Google Pixel. Updating to Android 10 will not change the theme as it's pretty much the same theme UI.
Here is the Google Pixel theme for your phone, it's free: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lge.wsdeveloper.ux8.pixelwhite
I've been using it without issue for quite about 5-months as my primary machine. The articles (some of the old ones) said it wasn't supporting HDMI. I've been running stock Android on my LG V40 on a 36-inch LG curved monitor with fantastic results. Even better, this device - unlike iOS devices, supports full mouse capabilities and bluetooth keyboards and many commands. With two mods, there's even more capability when running it with a desktop mode SDK and one other add on to add all the mouse functions including contextual mouse clicks and right click commands as well as complete standard keyboard command functions.
I love my LG-V40. Best device I've ever had - rock solid device.
I began using the device about 5-months ago as a stand-alone computer when repairing the CPU on my Macbook Pro and replacing its battery. Long lead time for thermal related materials led to using the LG-V40 non-stop as day to day setup. I was shocked at how well it worked to be honest. It even has an option built in for desktop mode which, one can customize. Even the built-in setup works fine out of the box minus contextual mouse drop down menus (R-Click Menu)
The HDMI adapter is key in success however for, some cheaper adapters don't work properly. The one I was recommended by someone who had tested some with the LG V40 was this one:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07VRD25Q2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I'm still seeking out a docking station for the LGV40 that supports HDMI while keeping the battery charged at the same time so, if one finds one, please, let me know.

CM

Amazon Prime shipping too. These are PERFECT because they are short and not super long.. the cable is tangle free and the tips are short enough to work with a phone case. It's gold plated too and built to last. So far, I have no problems with it.
You can toggle dark mode after applying a third party theme from playstore(most ux9 themes from play store support this)
You can try this dark theme on A10 https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lge.wsdeveloper.ux9.black

Yeah, I've never been able to justify a smartwatch. The kid in me wants the James Bond gadget... but I don't really have a real use for one lol.
I do use the smallest display size setting, but if you mean the amount of toggles, I use SystemUI Tuner on the Play Store. You'll have to issue an adb command or two, but it's well worth it.
This Google Play app usually does the trick, but it's also up to the app developer to implement dark mode support.
I can tell you right now Facebook does not have support and it's probably not their highest priority to get it out, either.
You can try this. It will help you remove the alarm icon.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zacharee1.systemuituner&hl=en_IN
I would try a reset, still a problem then take out of case if it's in one, run test with back of phone on an icepack, confirm cpu throttle is your issue. There's some great, free apps to check CPU speed throttling from temp.
This will tell if your throttling. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=skynet.cputhrottlingtest
Also, if you do have a case, know that some cases can cause overheating.
I don't have the same phone, but maybe someone with same model will run the throttle test and compare, to see if yours throttles way earlier than everyone else's . Make sure to go to settings and turn on temperature before running test. It takes at least five minutes, but you should let it run the full 15. Turn off mobile data, location and everything before running, also dim screen
drop a dollar fitty and install a theme app. i use this one, it's great.

You don't need to root the phone at all to record calls, there's tons of phone call recorder apps out there. I use Call Recorder by Green Apple Studios.. works perfectly fine. Saves the audio file into the phone, both outgoing and incoming calls.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.toh.callrecord
There's also a pro version with no ads if you want. Or you can just use firewall to block the ads on the free version. I just bought the paid one myself.
Naptime is an app by Francisco Franco who is well known trusted dev. It causes Android to drop into a heavy Doze state after a matter of minutes rather than the usual 2 hours. Started using it a couple of weeks ago and it seems to be helping lower my standby drain. Its free with IAP available

I love mine. Go for it. Stick with either factory unlocked, international, T-Mobile (least bloat), or AT&T carrier branded if you plan to use a GSM service network without limitations. The other carriers can have weird compatibility caveats and I think Sprint is still lacking an Android 10 update.
200-ish is fine. I picked up a $200 so-called good condition T-Mobile version on Swappa last month and it was nothing less than mint to my eyes. And for 275 you can get a mint 128gb unlocked international version on eBay from Korea in all colors, and it arrives quick. That's The route I chose with no regrets.
Just watch for signs of screen burn when shopping. I came across many with that and it's easy to overlook sometimes because not all vendors make a point to scream it from the rooftops.
I've tried a few screen protectors and this one fits best and this case is great
There are some V40s on Amazon if you wanna give that a look.
Here's a renewed tmobile variant:
The only real reason to get into LG phones is the audio. Although my V40 has a great screen and camera, I'm positive there's better phones for that. If battery life is a concern, I wouldn't go with LG. I've never had good battery life on my V30 or V40. If audio isn't a top priority for you, then go with something else. I've heard samsung A50 is good.
Everyone swears by this theme, it makes notifications black too if you follow instructions: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lge.wsdeveloper.ux8.black
You have to open the app after, install the modded version from the app, apply and reboot.
Ahhh i see my V40 too still have the high contast But im using my own black skin

UX8 Black theme from WSTeams
I've used it on Oreo and on Pie. It's 1.49 but it's worth it because it looks better than the high contrast theme.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lge.wsdeveloper.g7.dark
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lge.wsdeveloper.ux8.oneuiblack this is my current one, mainly because the notifications are black too. The one i was using before is Android p dark theme, but it hasn't been updated for pie. It also made the notifications black and any Google apps with dark mode. So no gray backgrounds, but black
Hey man, I've used this on my V40 on Pie: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lge.wsdeveloper.ux8.black
They also have a Samsung One UI dark theme: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lge.wsdeveloper.ux8.oneuiblack
You can get Discover on the stock LG launcher by installing a third party theme which enables the feature.
I'm using this one.
Hmm the plot thickens. That's 100% the US unlocked model and not a mysterious single SIM European version (The V40 only comes in one 'rest of world' dual SIM flavour outside of the US and Korea IIRC, LM-V405EBW).
A cursory Google returns this same issue on phones from Moto and Huawei, so I'm thinking this isn't anything to do with B&H or even LG.
Next step is to identify the package name of the app sending the notification - com.something.somethingelse - for further investigation.
Try an app like this one to get the package name easily.
Here it is: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ledblinker
You need pro version for more options though. On AMOLED screens, it should be fine because it will move slowly. Works well, you can customize the size and color.. and add your personal apps to it.
For a simple monochrome look I use these Icons and have for years now.

Tbh out of all the carriers, Verizon has the heaviest bloat ware and they modify the phone the most. Yeah, it has to be those.
Also, do you have the LG Smart World app? Uninstall it because if you read the fine print, you agree to allow LG to collect your information when you have the app. Disable it.

Why not install a theme from the Play Store? There's a guy called Nguyen Ngoc Giap that made a few nice ones for the V40. Looks exactly like the Pixel. You can actually adjust the smoothness of the animations in developer settings.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ngocgiap.lgtheme.pixel.g7
To enable developer settings, go to settings > general > about phone > software info > then click on build number 5 times... Then exit back out to settings > general > then open developer mode.. enable it, then scroll down to animations.. then change it to .5x speed
Yeah, flawed might not have been the right word, rather incomplete. The overall point is that there are a lot of factors to consider when measuring battery life. Cranking every phone to 100% brightness and calling it a battery test is just silly, imo. As a lighter user, I tend to keep my phones on the lowest brightness setting I can stand indoors. I use the app Brightness Factors to set the parameters.
On the V30, I was able to set the brightness at 25% indoors, have AOD enabled, and use location at high accuracy periodically. With its 3300 mAh battery and my usage, the best I was able to achieve was 8:42 SOT with 46 hours off the charger. That was fantastic for me, as was the quad DAC. On other phones, I've been able to go as low as 6.5%. Unfortunately, I had to sell the V30 because of horrible signal reception issues.
What bothers me about the V40 is the fact that LG hasn't increased the battery capacity to offset the larger screen. How in the world did they go from the V30, which GSMArena tested its endurance rating to 93 hours, to the V40's 64 hour endurance? Actual usage is subjective, of course, but that's quite a drop, nonetheless. There comes a point in your quest for thinnest, lightest phone where you risk it feeling cheap. With other OEM's seemingly (finally) embracing 4000 mAh+ as standard, I can only imagine what LG could do with that big a battery and their battery optimization, especially for the price they dare to charge.
My wife uses this one, it's a tpu film protector. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B077QTWWBB/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_RI7GDb7EQQYQC
I use this one, it's a glass screen protector, also be aware it won't fit with many cases. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07XJ2LBVS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_TG7GDb0XVT13F
Thank you! I was actually looking at that glass one, worried about the case thing though.
Did you find a case that works with it?
I'm looking at this one.

I had to give up on the tempered glass screen protectors for that exact reason. Got the Skinomi screen protector on now and it's been great so far. They come 2 to a pack, but I'm still on the first one (put on in January).
And they're $8 to boot: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B077QTWWBB/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_UDEyDb5GGRY1D
I dropped it out of the car window while at the drive thru scanning loyalty card. I had it in this case. Not a scratch.
Just last week, had it outside the case in my lap in the car, got out, fell directly on gravel road I was parked on, just a nick in the sideraid, no cracks or anything on the glass though.
Take it with a grain of salt, everybody's experience will be different. Great it like it is: a very expensive piece of glass.
This is the screen protector I'm using. It's not full coverage so there's a small gap between the protector and the edge of the screen. Haven't had any issues and it's saved my screen several times.

GLASS M on Amazon is the best one. FULL ADHESIVE, so it fully sticks to the phone and not sit on top... it is a hair short than normal but that's just how it is because if the curved display, still satisfied with it though. It also has a LIFETIME WARRANTY too, so you can get replacements if it breaks.

My second recommendation is the Poetic brand but that one is NOT full adhesive.. though the good thing is the borders are a little bigger if you prefer that and it works with a case. Full adhesive is better IMO because it looks clearer. The Glass M is a hair short on the sides because of the curved screen but it covers good enough.
My exact model phone is the LG LM-V405UA.
However, in looking back at my old Amazon order, the details on the charging pad I have now say
>【FAST CHARGE MODE】(Output 10W Max) : APPLICABLE Fast charge mode ONLY supports the 6 devices: Samsung S8,S8 Plus, Galaxy S7, S7 Edge, Note 5 and S6 Edge Plus.
So I guess there's my problem. I'll have to get a new pad that's compatible with the V40's fast charging.
For LG there's an app called Package Disabler Pro for LG... easiest way to remove the bloatware without root or any modifications. It's available on the Play Store:

If this is the screen protector you purchased, most of the reviews on Amazon are not good.
I bought this one, hoping it is OK. Unfortunately, I won't receive it for a week or two, and my V40 doesn't come until next Wednesday. Once I try it out, I'll post my results. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GRXF34Q

Poetic has always made great cases imo. There aren't too many great options out just yet so I got this to hold me over. Sad part is that my phone and screen protectors are in but I won't get this until probably wednesday the earliest.
