qBittorrent has no Android/iOS version and "uptodown.com" certainly isn't qBittorrent's site.
If you're looking for an Android bittorrent client, check out libretorrent or Flud
I installed 4.0.0 today and afterward reviewed the Execution Log and saw that my home IP address is showing as the External IP Address. I looked up the bugs on their Github page and saw that a couple of other people have reported the same thing.
If you use a Proxy like BTGuard, DON'T install 4.0.0. Wait until this bug has been fixed.
Now if I can only find an earlier version to install...
Edit: Found it:
A working port forward means you can connect to all peers. No port forward means you can only connect to peers w/ a working port forward, which limits the peers you can connect to. The impact ranges from unnoticeable to literally not being able to download a torrent and it'll be different for each one.
If your VPN provider does not support port forwarding, switch when its time to renew. It is a basic requirement for torrenting and it is absurd for a torrenting vpn to not offer it. I know TorGuard and AirVPN both support port fowarding and there are others that do as well, including PIA.
1) Check if you're connectable i.e. you have an open port and qBittorent is listening on it. Visit to learn how to port forward on your specific router, it has a bunch of guides for a lot of them
2) Check the number of seeders. If it's low the torrent might be old or low priority for people and they may have limited the upload rate, which means your download will be slow
3) Connect using an ethernet cable. Much better connection quality and a lot less dropped packets
4) Go to qBittorent options and select your default network connection in the "Advanced" tab as your ethernet adapter, or your VPN in case you have one
5) Conduct a speedtest on to make sure you're getting the full speed from your ISP
6) Maybe try adding the torrent file from a tracker with more seeders? I.e. If you found your torrent on rarbg try to check if the same torrent is on 1337x, if it has more seeders add that torrent to your downloads
7) Finally, if nothing else works, your ISP may be throttling torrents on their network. In that case you'll need a VPN to mask your traffic. Mullvad and Windscribe are good options
There may be other better advice people on here can provide. I'm still kind of a noob so some of my information may be incorrect or slightly misleading, but if all else is okay you should be getting higher speeds by the time you reach point no.7
Just want to say that the update was served, and it still served for QB since 2nd August. There was no interruption of this service, except for the 3 hours when we shut down our entire infrastructure.
You guys are 100% correct to concern about this. However, don't take our word. The update will get you to this link: https://www.fosshub.com/qBittorrent.html/qbittorrent_3.3.6_setup.exe
Please upload the file on VirusTotal or Jotti's Malware Online Scan. After you do this, please check the MD5, SHA1 and SHA256 signatures using free online services or with independent tools.
The signature for Windows of QB 3.3.6 on its official homepage is this one:
SHA-1 Checksum: ef47e39b6a3be9fbe63cdb7f8c80d1e2c0a606bf
If you click on our site link (MD5/SHA1 signature), it will show the same signature.
However, again, don't take our word, please check the SHA1 signatures using free online services or with independent tools.
Example: http://onlinemd5.com/
If you have downloaded QB from us and has the same signature (and VirusTotal shows the file as clean), it means that the file is legit, and it was not altered.
Use this for any site that you have doubts.
We apologize again for this incident!
Are you guys joking. Sending files is what this program is made for:
How to share files with my friends using qBittorrent
There could be some port forwarding fidgeting though.
You could also try Syncthing, to constantly sync files like Dropbox, but directly between two computers using torrent protocol.
I had this problem with NordVPN a few weeks ago, with no changes to my system.
Go to Tools - Options - Advanced - Network Interface
It was set to the wrong interface, not the NordLynx interface. Once I did that, boom, everything worked fine again.
Give that a try.
It doesn't look like ProtonVPN supports it. The port you open doesn't matter. You can't make a connection with torrents unless one user has the port forwarded, so you will likely have a degraded experience.
Nord does not support port forwarding, so you'll only be able to connect to peers that have a working port forward instead of all peers. Get a better VPN provider, research if they support port forwarding before paying. I know TorGuard and AirVPN do because I use them.
Yep. Windows NordVPN client and qBittorrent should be enough.
Some useful optimisations:
In the NordVPN program settings, set your preferred protocol to NordLynx (their WireGuard implementation) for better performance.
In qBittorrent's advanced settings, bind to the NordLynx network adapter, instead of all interfaces.
You could also enable split tunnel VPN in the NordVPN program settings, and add the qBT program as the only entry on that whitelist. That way you're using NordVPN exclusively for qBT, while other traffic from your PC goes normally, and doesn't take up any of the VPN bandwidth that qBT could use.
If at some point you want a thin system/NAS/Pi to run 24/7 and handle qBT duties, then Docker containers might be better.
Windscribe has been a great vpn for me. They have "build a plan" which is 1 dollar per month for every country you select (each country has 1 or more locations) or unlimited data for minimum 2 dollars a month. So if you're in the USA then you can choose USA servers (there are a lot of them) and unlimited data for 2 dollars a month. They have a no logs policy and a very helpful subreddit and discord server. They also have ROBERT which is a server side adblock and tracker block which I have found useful
Mullvad and protonvpn are other good ones I've heard about but I've never tried them.
There are a lot of trackers for specific things. has a lot of movies, some music, a lot of porn, many games, and some ebooks
and the best public trackers for Anime for high quality encodes if you're into anime (if you aren't i highly recommend)
For your torrent client, go with qbittorrent, which is open source. Look around in the options menu and Google terms you don't know about to familiarize yourself with the software
Edit i realized what sub this was posted in.
I use Private Internet Access (PIA) VPN, and that's been working fine.
Last year, around Black Friday, someone alerted me to a deal on Stack Social which gave a 2-year subscription for about $56 (or some price like that).
So, you could try a VPN on a monthly basis for a couple months, and then see if there are deals around Black Friday for a longer subscription.
Maybe those specific torrents or tracker are just slow. Or you don't have a NordVPN server that close to you. I also use qBittorrent and NordVPN and can get up to 100-200mbps, depending on the specific torrent, number of seeders, and time of day. I also get really low speeds often, speeds that are only a few kilobytes or bytes or torrents that just stall out and don't download at all. It really just depends.
Is it too late to mention https://ninite.com/ ?
You can use it to install loads of applications, including Qbittorrent, and it strips out all the crap like McAfee offers and resetting your home page to Bing.
Not sure what issues he's referring to.
I use Docker in Windows 10 with the same binhex arch-qbittorrentvpn container you use. No issues at all. It works great with AirVPN.
u/DontTakeMyNoise, openVPN is required for this setup. IPVanish does have openVPN configueration files.
Bind qBittorrent to the VPN. This stops all torrent traffic if your VPN drops it's connection. It works better than a software kill switch.
In qBittorrent, go to Settings > Advanced > Network interface and select your VPN interface.
If you don't know which is your VPN, disconnect it and see which interface disappears.
Hey, just in case you're worried regarding FossHub. We do not track or collect any personal information (not building any personal profile) regarding our visitors. I am not talking about third-party services such as Google. You can take a look over our TOS here: https://www.fosshub.com/privacy.html
Here’s the download link https://www.filehorse.com/download-qbittorrent-64/35005/ Uninstall the 4.1.1 first then, make sure scan it by antivirus after download it from there, when you get the message box like update new version you should ignore it..

As far as I can tell, the inaccurate peer counts are due to the websites that the search plugins use for their searches e.g on a particular torrent zooqle.com reports seeder/leecher ratios that are at least 8 months out of date. When I refresh the trackers on the website for this torrent, some trackers are still not updated meaning that in essence those wrong peer counts are somewhat permanent. :(

As for the search result UI problem, I have yet to reproduce the problem, but if I do, I will file an issue on github.
1) Connect to your VPN
2) In qBittorrent, go to Options >> Advanced >> Network Interface, and then change the "Any interface" value to your VPN provider's virtual network adapter. (For Mullvad VPN, it the virtual network adapter is called "Mullvad")
3) Win!
You shouldn't see your peer IP showing up in any torrents anymore.
Rick
>As far as cost, I have the cheapest shared seedhost box which is only 6 €/mo or about $7 US. Btw, there's a subreddit dedicated to seedboxes, r/seedboxes, so go there if you want to learn more.
I used to use the cheapest one with , which cost about the same. It ran 24/7/365 and never gave me any problems with a gigabit connection. For me, because I have a Plex server for private use, I have to leave my computer on full-time anyway, but I agree that if you didn't have to, there'd be no need for a seedbox.
The thing is that NordVPN costs me $6.25 (5 €) / year when I split it with friends. So the seedbox costs me 10x as much, which really eats into everything.
>Btw, many torrenters, especially over at r/VPNTorrents, would disagree with you about Nord. It's main flaw is that it doesn't offer port forwarding through its vpn servers which can limit connectability and download/upload speeds. Besides lengthening how long it takes for a torrent to download, it could make some torrents appear dead when they actually aren't. So if you were properly port forwarded, the dreaded 0(1), 0(0) in the seeds/peers columns might become 1(1), and you could download the torrent from the one remaining seed.
This is amazing information, thank you! I went on an entire binge of that subreddit last night and didn't realize how important port forwarding was. I was wondering why the speeds were slower than my seedbox (and not taking advantage of my full internet speed) and now it makes perfect sense. The reality for me is at 10x the cost, the seedbox is a nice luxury and I may subscribe again one day. The Seedbox is the true black box and you can never be dinged for torrenting because the servers are hosted in a jurisdiction that doesn't enforce against torrenting copyrighted material.
And that is my question... what is the theoretical maximum for qBittorrent using a vPN like NordVPN.
If it's like 5MB/s even if you have the fastest internet possible, obviously ethernet won't improve my situation.
I'm having pretty much the same problem. I thought it might just be a lack of seeders, but I tested it with some high-seed torrents, and I'm still not having any luck.
I use to run into this problem occasionally, but that's probably because there really were no seeders for those torrents. But now that it's happening for literally everything, I think it's a bigger problem. I have no idea what the issue is or how to fix it. I've already uninstalled and reinstalled qBittorrent, but that didn't work.
For reference, I'm using NordVPN and I have the latest updates for everything.
> PIA's VPN app
You may want to rethink using that, they were bought by a shady Israeli company (Kape Tech a few years ago, they also own the garbage that is CyberGhost.
It should at least direct all traffic thru the VPN. Otherwise some of it might go thru your "real" connection and some via the VPN.
If you change the setting and your vpn goes down, QB stops dead until connections can be made with the NordVPN adapter.
As far as other settings... No idea how NordVPN works but if you can open ports, only open the port at NordVPN. No need to open it in your own router.
This is gonna sound like a cop-out but I think that it really depends on the user's own hardware/VPN/ISP situation. A lot of folks don't seem to have any issues at all and they are downloading at great speeds and all is well. However, there are also people like you and me who have struggled to get the program to download even 1 file without stalling or losing trackers or not enough peers or whatever the case may be.
I have a 4 month old HP laptop with Windows 10 and NordVPN. I have run down every suggestion I have seen in this sub, but I cannot get Qbit to run on a consistent basis. One day, it will be great, a few hours later, it's dead in the water. Open ports are tested and verified forwarding is working as it should, VPN seems to be configured correctly but yet, just an hour ago, I tried to download a total of 4 torrents with more than 10 seeds each and I swear I could hear the program laughing at me as it moved not 1/10 of a percent towards downloading anything.
I've spoken to my cable company and they insist there's no throttling going on, that my account is in good standing and all is , it's really not. However, I CAN say that MY issue may not be with the program because I also have uTorrent, Tixati, Fopnu and Shareaza on my computer and when I use any of them (one at a time of course), I experience the same issues: slow downloads, stalling, taking forever to read metadata, etc.. If I can see where the issue is to fix those programs, I believe Qbit will fall in line. Till then, I'll keep trying and hope I got on the secret combination soon!
One last thing: I know we have some incredibly smart and talented people that are on this sub, as well as some of the other related anyone has any suggestions, no matter how large or small, that I can try to fix my issues, let me know. If it works, I promise to post here so others like our OP can save some time and sanity 🙂
Thank you all for you input. In advanced options in qBit I changed the interface to run on NordVPN only and it seems to be working good, I guess that the killswitch is not 100%. Ill comment back if I get another notice.
Addl notes: I was running Qbit over night unsupervised and that's when the email from ISP came in. So I'm assuming the VPN disconnected briefly and that's when the traffic was flagged.
There is a setting in qbittorrent so that it only works on one network interface. Set that setting to the Astrill VPN interface. That way if Astrill ever goes down for some reason, qbittorrent will stop downloading/uploading instead of switching to use your normal connection.
Maybe they are but named differently than you expect. Check all the profiles. That’s how it is on my Mac, no ExpressVPN profile. It was eth01 or something.
Launch qbit and pause all your seeds. Bind the network profile you want to test, quit qbit and activate your vpn, go to and check what ip is detected. Activate the torrent magnet link on the website, paste the result in your qbit, check the result on , if the vpn ip is reported back then you’re good to go.
Rinse and repeat with other profiles inside qbit until you get the correct profile.
You can also probably find the proper profile setting under system preferences -> network.
Absolutely. Switching from the VPN I was using before to Mullvad has been like night and day for QoL and my speed performance, and if it's ultimately not a big help, you can opt out of payment anytime you want without having to commit to some year-long subscription.
Make sure to open your port on the Mullvad website, too.
Are you only connecting to NordVPN through the desktop app? Also, are you connecting to the P2P connections? If none of these work for you try adding SOCKS5 to qBittorent. Nord has a page for setting this up.
There aren't any good free VPNs/proxies for P2P. ProtonVPN is a good free proxy but you can't torrent on it.
Each VPN has a limited number of devices that can be connected to it per account (usually 5-10). You give your account information to one person and it'll be all over the internet.
Hi and thanks for the suggestions
I have tried switching to different locations with the VPN and generally it made no difference to the low speeds I was getting during the time I was downloading torrents.
I’m still learning about what my VPN ( Private Internet Access ) can offer so I’m now going to check out the P2P option.
Ive been in contact with another VPN provider ( windscribe. dot com ) who can offer a free Trial Pro account so that their VPN service can be tried out , which I'm now going to do.
Your suggestion …
Try to use all the time VPN, even when you are not 2renting. Disable the Auto start/Start up for torrent clients if it is on. Will not run automatically when you start/restart you PC.
............
Is some thing I’m now going to try out and I will post back how things go.

So many thanks for your help

You can easily add magnet, .torrent and manage all the download using this.
I have ExpressVPN as well and I torrent. Have you tried using a different VPN location? For some reason when I use my home city, I can't torrent from it. I have to use a city like Miami or Dallas for qBittorrent to work.
DHT and PEX generally work with VPNs but there have been issues with some VPNs in the past. You can try contacting Mullvad if there are known issues or try switching to a different server.
Edit: This sounds like Mullvad does not support DHT or at least does not recommend it. You can test it by disabling VPN and running qbit again (only with legal torrents active of course)
Edit: The Ubuntu torrent is definitely not private, so that's out.
Well VPN is always tough, it renders you passive basically.
/u/505012426791 That's correct. 4.0.4 won't connect to anything with Mullvad running. Mine seems to work perfectly with 4.0.1
Sorry for the delay, I just saw you replied to my comment. Hope this helps.
I use Mullvad, and setup exactly as shown on the web site. Surf with Firefox, torrent with qBittorrent. Been torrenting 24/7 for 6 months so far, works perfect. 5eu/mo a pittance to pay. Servers worldwide, and they promote qBittorrent!
Happy Surfing!
PIA has a setting to shut down all internet activity unless it is connected.
Unfortunately, it isn't app-specific.
Alternatively, you can switch to BTGuard, which ONLY VPNs your torrent client. There, however, I don't know of a deadman switch - but I've only lost BTGuard protection once in a while after updating it, so it's fairly predictable.
You are stuck because using a VPN renders you passive. This is not an issue if you use a private tracker and you try to download torrents with good swarms.
But if you try to download public torrents, or magnet links, you will need an active connection. You can either get a VPN that supports port forwarding, or not use a VPN. There is no way around it.
NordVPN does not support port forwarding btw, it's all a big fat scam pushed by YouTube channels and others alike. Other providers such as Mullvad, Windscribe or even PIA do offer port forward. But do check before ordering.
Oh yeah and NordVPN will make your refund process a pain. Just stay strong, keep pushing for the refund and you will get it.
Those are simple Qt libs still without any ill issue. Qt is also open source. There is also years old tickets on the internet about this (that you just found):
https://sourceforge.net/p/texstudio/bugs/1738/
It's basically part of Qt, so my tip was wrong that it's most likely a libtorrent thing. It's most likely a Qt call when it comes to networking. But the qBittorrent team has no influence or effect on what Qt does or how it should work. Qt is a commercial toolkit that is available for free for open-source projects.
No, unfortunately it can't be disabled.
My setup isn't exactly like yours. I run qBit on a Windows PC with AirVPN, WireGuard VPN.
Check your qBit log to see what IP's are successfully logging in. Search for WebAPI Login.
In my case it shows my local IP's, 192.168.2.x.
I added 192.168.2.0/24 and it worked. Bypass for local hosts did not work.
Dude who treated you badly enough to where this is how you talk to people you don’t know? Have some common decency. This was taken directly from that post
• I am using NordVPN • Have tried downloading the file and it says Stalled • When using the magnet link, it says Downloading Metadata • Tried using other torrents and it’s the same thing • I have tried a suggested fix where you rename the qBittorrent folder
Only change I can remember is Nord forcing an update.
Seem NordVPN is blocking all public Trackers and are actively blocking [DHT] [PEX] [LSD] P2P location finding of finding Peers. I too see the same thing.. If you click on Trackers you will see 99.9% of trackers are blocked. If you attempt to download CENTOS OS torrent it will semi work as many of the protocols are being blocked. So much for a Good VPN. GUI says "Downloading metadata" and that is it.
Some people said disconnecting the VPN to get the peer list works but that defeats the whole idea of a VPN as as soon as you do that your local IP will be broadcasted in to the torrent.
Seems like this has been going on for the past 2 weeks at least. And it's not a bug as I had the pervious version and it worked fine then torrents didn't work, upgraded still broken.
Under trackers you can see all trackers are down or unavailable or some kind of faked error.
I found some troubleshooting steps that involved pointing that seeing to the NordVPN interface (for NordVPN users, obv), but when I checked that setting, and there didn't seem to be a TumnelBear interface option.
So yeah, it's set to Any Interface
So what you are doing is actually bypassing the VPN for the entire download.
A VPN is a second path that your computer can use to send/receive data. But for the data to go down that path, the connection needs to be established with that path in the beginning. The data will travel on whatever path the initial connection is established on.
So when you disable your VPN, you are allowing the connection to establish using the non-VPN path. So all data transmitted/received after that connection is made travels over the non-VPN path.
So the real question is why is TunnelBear not working with qBittorrent. And he answer is because TunnelBear is garbage for torrenting. You need to find a VPN that supports port forwarding. Otherwise it will be much harder for qBittorrent to establish a connection to peers/seeders.
My question is, how do I fix it? If I knew how to fix it I wouldn't be on here asking lol. And no I didn't try to download a single other thing.

I used this guide:
Configuring a Private Internet Access qBittorrent SOCKS5 setup
Setting up a Private Interest Access qBittorrent SOCKS5 configuration is simple. Just follow these steps:
Load up the qBittorrent client.
Head to the Tools menu, then choose “Options” and “Connection.”
Under the “Type” field, write Socks5.
Under the “Host” type: .
Specify the Port as 1080.
Enter your generated SOCKS proxy username and password.
Before pressing “Apply,” make sure that the “Disable connections not supported by proxies” and “Use proxy for peer-to-peer connections” options are selected.
Well first off, CyberGhost VPN is not a good VPN for torrents. It doesn't allow port forwarding, so your going to have some issues.
As for the crashing problem, it could be a stability issue with your computer itself. Running a lot of torrents through a VPN can put a lot of CPU load on your computer. And if your computer can't handle that load, it might crash.
I’m also having the same problem for the last 2-3 days! I see you rolled back to 4.3.9 for a fix. I may do that soon if this continues.
I run Mullvad as vpn and have changed no settings. Have tried many different servers and they’re all 1/2 to 2/3 of my normal d/l speed.
I was experiencing real slow downloads with PIA. I did all the things, contacted their support and they told me it was my ISP. It worked fine for years then went to shit. I spent a few months troubleshooting it and gave up. I tried Mullvad and my speeds have been amazing, so its worth the extra $ to me. Its @ $5 a month (PIA is like $3 something with a 1 yr) so US $60 a year and PIA was $40 something a year at the time, so it wasn't much for me to worry about. I went month to month so if something better comes along i will switch.
NordVPN sucks for torrents. It does not allow port forwarding, and the only reason they are relevant is because they pay millions of dollars to have influencers advertise their service. Mullvad does not do that influencer crap because their product advertises itself by being better than the competition.
Oh , this is exactly what i was looking for ! Im in the first year with Mullvad aswell , Well since you have more experience i dont think i shouldn't be worried now :) , yes im pretty sure the proper vpn setup is enabled + Port forwarded + Tested closing mullvad (Internet dies immediately + Qbittorrent stops working) must mean i've set it up properly
Well , imma stick to the servers in my country (the speeds are much faster and latency is waayyy lower ) just wanted to see if anyone had this experience aswell and what they've done in place , Thankyou so much :)
One of the specific reasons I like Mullvad + qBittorrent is that I torrent all night long while I sleep and I use port forwarding for maximum connectivity.
Unlike most port-forwarding VPNs, Mullvad's port forwarding is based on city rather than server. If some server glitch or malfunction causes Mullvad to lose connection in the night, it reconnects automatically to the same profile with the same port forwarding. On most other VPNs, you lose your port forwarding the moment you lose connection and your new connection won't have it.
Yes i have already done this + enabled the built in kill switch in Mullvad (forcing my internet to die , if mullvad crashes or stops)
My worrying part was that should i set the ''location'' in Mullvad to my own country or a nearby country for ''added'' privacy
Same thing here, have to switch to 'Mullvad' manually with each restart. For some reason Qbittorrent defaults to a new, numbered connection created by Mullvad (shown on the screen instead of keeping the saved settings.
No records kept. They are also NOT a member of the ......
my mistake naming airvpn as fact those below are safer:
ExpressVPN, NordVPN, and Astrill.
Read the info at the link
Did Mullvad told you to setup all that? Because as far as i know, for a VPN you don't need any network "knowhow" or "magic"
Never seen that you need to setup your DNS server yourself or have to setup
You set it up service listen ports in the router. Every traffic that is bound to that network interface should go trough an encrypted tunnel.
The most you would need to do is port forward the VPN port, if it doesn't use uPnP.
and do a virtual port forward in the VPN software to let qBit trough
---
I don't think this a qBit problem, you would be better of going to the general torrenting reddit or some VPN reddit
From the looks of it in that screenshot you are only connected to 8 peers out of roughly 29 which means you are probably using a non port forwarded VPN and/or your settings for global connections are set too low. This is the problem with VPNs like Nord, Express etc is the lack of port forwarding. Best way to maximize your speeds is to get the most connections possible. I have 1gbs fiber and I find about 100 connections per torrent sufficient for maxing my speeds. As for a VPN with port forwarding I recommend Mullvad.
I don't use VPN, I don't need it. Here in hungary the law doesn't pursue regular torrenting, just when you doing it big time and you start to sell the downloaded content
Instead we have taxes built-in in every storage medium that goes to the copyright authoroties, then gets distributed between artist, movie makers etc.
---
With VPN, you usually never get your normal internet speed. The service itself on servers have limited bandwith. Not to mention the overhead of encriptying, routing, decrypting at end and the same back. You need a decent and reputable paid VPN like NordVPN or ExpressVPN, to not have that much hit on your bandwith.
Last i checked Nord had dedicated servers for P2P file exchange
At the top bar, click Tools > Options.
Now click the tab called Connection on the left side.
Towards the top you'll see a box titled "Listening Port" That's where the Mullvad forwarded port number goes.
If you're using the WebUI make sure to scroll to the bottom and click save, or click apply and OK in the native application. It can take a couple minutes to fully apply.
I do have a similar issue at times, but whenever my internet cuts out it's for such a short period of time that I don't ever really notice the download speeds decreasing on qBit. It goes out for like 5-10 seconds and then it's back. I can see in ProtonVPN the connection graph plummeting every 30-60 seconds. Also, if I'm downloading individual music tracks, some tracks will download fully in that brief period, but other tracks will download about halfway before giving me an error message and having to continue.
I think our issues are slightly different, but can't say for sure. I also never have to restart my router or anything. My internet always works, it's just really annoying with how frequently it skips.
You're right, that's exactly how you're getting caught. What I do (and I feel is likely best-practice if youre able) is this:
I run Qbit and GlueTun as containers. The GlueTun container connects to NordVPN first, then the Qbit container connects to GlueTun for network access. I have verified complete privacy using the Magnet link in for extra assurance. I re-verify weekly to make sure it's all running correctly. I've been doing this for some time and so far no strikes for downloading "new Linux ISOs."
We are hitting a langugae barrier again. Please use whole sentences and a few paragraph linebreaks. I will try to parse your text.
Mullvad VPN has a monthly plan.
"asus rt-ax56u" just because it is capable of using VPN or provide VPN, that doesn't mean it is the same as Mullvad. For it to use VPN it needs a service provider to connect to, that is Mullvad or similar. Don't use a free VPN that could seriously throttle your speed. As for providing VPN that is for you to connect to your network from the outside, that will not help you with torrenting
I don't understand the "AI MESH=2 " sentencence, "living room"? I wouldn't use wifi for torrenting
If the torrents you are seeding are public, not private then it can happen that you seed trough DHT or PeX, with peers not coming trough the trackers. That traffic will not be registered by the trackers.
Are the trackers public or private?
Check your torrent port with to find out if your port forwarding is ok. But i would not expect performance from a single laptop HDD
I just checked on my Windows box. Windows doesn't even see my VPN (WindScribe) and only shows my physical interfaces. I then looked with Wireshark packet capture tool and all of my traffic is under my VPN protocol. I think Windows is only monitoring traffic on physical adapters.
If I navigate to Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections and open the VPN connection and the physical network card, I see both showing traffic. But the only traffic on the system is the VPN and some local network traffic.
See which shows the physical lan (right) has no internet access, but the VPN (left) does have access.
Quite interested in this one. I started having the same behaviour in last few weeks (downloads full speed then grinds to a halt, then full speed again). Using NordVPN, tried setting different connections types in NordVPN but no luck
I’m not too well versed in the subject but I believe they have had some breaches and scandals with them and their parent company (Tesonet). Also people claim that some of constant sponsorships and ads that Nord does on YouTube are “Affiliate scams”. I’m going to be honest and say I have no idea what that is, but for me it doesn’t matter because I feel Nord is just way over priced to begin with. Mullvad is more expensive per month than Nord but Nord is all upfront for a whole year or two while Mullvad isn’t even a subscription, you pay for the amount of time you want to use it. So if you want to use it for 3 months you can pay just for 3 months. However, to each his own! If you find Nord works for you then use Nord! At least it’s a known name and not some junk free vpn!
Unfortunately, I am unable to answer your question, but you should not use Nord VPN. I would go to r/VPNTorrents to create your own opinions, but if you want mine, I use Mullvad. It's completly anonymous and its only roughly $5 USD a month. The cheap price may make it seem sketchy but Nord VPN is so expensive because they spend so much on advertising. Also many people don't like/trust vpns that are advertised. I would visit the subreddit I linked because you can learn alot there.
Actually IVPN listed in r/VPNTorrents as a good choice for torrenting and looks like widely used, so should not be a real issue. As far as I understand nord does not support port forwarding, not sure you get it to receive incoming connections without any additional configuration
Just a quick update. Nord was just being a bear, it was acting weird and started just blocking my internet seemingly randomly. I uninstalled it completely. I picked up Mullvad and everything is working great again.
I still have a couple of months left on Nord, but its just not worth the hassle.
51820 is the port Mullvad has forwarded on their end so that you can connect to the VPN. It has nothing to do with with torrenting and port forwarding from your side.
56835 is the port Mullvad gave you. It's the one that you'll use for any applications you want to port forward.
6881 is just a random port the torrent client gave you. You need to change this number to 56835 and disable the option where it randomises the port everytime you launch the client.
Hope this was helpful.
Average download speed is and always has been substantially faster than the average upload speed. Aside from that, seeders could be throttling their speed down to minimize their own overhead while they download. Letting someone consume your whole upload bandwidth has a negative result on your download speeds. Also, throttling your own speeds is a catch-22. While you don't want people consuming 100% of your bandwidth, throttling too low has a negative impact on your own max download speed. You want to balance it. Also, the more of the torrent you have to share, the faster your download speed will climb. As you get closer to completion of the torrent, you should start seeing faster speeds. Finally, your VPN plays a significant role in slowing you down. It's the cost of security. Not all VPNs are equal. I did thorough testing until I finally settled with NordVPN.
>There is no reason to buy anything other than Mullvad.

>How much are you paid to shill?
I get that Mullvad has a good rep, but... shill much yourself? Did you not recognize the irony of writing out this comment?
Proton decided to 'silently' enable port blocking in their stable release without mentioning anything in their changelog. To fix this go in advanced settings and enable: Non-standard ports.
For reference:
Is it a single file or a collection of files? If it is a collection then do it in bits and pieces. For instance if it is a TV season pack of say 32 episodes then select only 8 at a time. When that is done move the completed ones to a different drive and switch to next 8 by pausing the torrent, selecting the next 8 in the queue and deselecting the already completed and moved first 8.
I would not have a a clue how to sort it if it is a single file.
In any case IMHO you got 2 lemons. 4.4.2 and ExpressVPN.
I was extremely disappointed by highly recommended and touted NordVPN and Express VPN. neither worked at all. Had to request refund. Also keep in mind that not all servers of the VPN providers allow torrent traffic. So you need to locate the ones in your providers' list and connect through one of them.
Only 2 that have ever worked for me are Tunnel Bear & Cyber Ghost. I currently use Tixati as my browser and limited free version of Tunnel Bear addon. I need these only for certain information sites which have location specific access controls.
Try this free setup. If it works for you then you can subscribe for their service for unlimited use.
It shows up for me (though there is an update that I don't feel like downloading right now) Make sure it's qBittorent and not BitTorrent as that's what the instructions are for, then the drop down menu for "Network interface" should have Mullvad as an option. For me it was the last option in the list.
Thank you so much for the prompt response. I received an email message from my ISP this morning. Something they received from Warner brothers apparently. That didn't sit too well with me.
You can use the torrent tracker on Mullvads website or . Test that it only picks up your Mullvad IP. If you have Qbit on and all torrents paused, turn off VPN and try adding the tracker. It shouldn't pick up any IP because it can't connect
If you want encription, so that your ISP won't see your traffic, I would suggest a VPN which catches all your network traffic...
You need to find a "torrent friendly" VPN... usually the most popular ones won't ask what you do with their service, you are paying for it.
ExpressVPN, CyberGhost, NordVPN comes in first on google
They usually create a virtual network card to catch your traffic... in qbit at the advanced options you can force your client to use that "network interface"
You don't say which platform (Win/Linux), so this isn't easy.
ProtonVPN is OpenVPN, so you can (once connected) use any OpenVPN setup guide for qBittorrent.
This is largely: settings -> advanced tab -> network interface [vpn interface], so for example tun0. Then also which ip addresses to bind on that interface and you might want to just do all ipv4.
Hope this helps at least three months.
It's worked almost flawlessly, though some servers around the world don't have consistent speeds, i just use the one in Sweden which has consistently been the fastest for me.
Although i'm not sure if this is because the seeders actually reaching their limit, i usually see download speeds peak at around 8 MiB/s, whereas upload speeds rarely go above 200 KiB/s.
Without my VPN the same torrents reach around 25 MiB/s download roughly 800 KiB/s upload.
Also tried a Speedtest with Mullvad on.
I live in Switzerland where downloading copyrighted content is straight up legal, so i figured i might actually stop using a VPN altogether since i have little use for it otherwise. But Mullvad is the only VPN Service i didn't ask for a refund after the trial period.
Hope this helps at least a little.
Go to r/Piracy and they’ll recommend you Mullvad, which supports port forwarding and doesn’t keep logs. If you want to stay completely anonymous you can even send them cash in a letter instead of paying with paypal / credit card like usual. Pricing is also fair in my opinion, it’s 5$ a month and you can cancel anytime.
I use Astrill. Never had any issues and the speeds are good. I get about 300Mbps download. I'm not sure on the VPN's max upload, because my ISP limits my upload to 40Mbps. Astrill can max out that upload. They use the OpnVPN protocol or Wireguard. I use Wireguard because it is faster and uses less CPU power.
I'm not sure if they provide a Sock5, but I never really saw a reason to need that.
Ohhh, I think I understand--so it's being named "Ethernet" because of a glitch or something, but it's actually the NordVPN adapter. And yes, the one showing as "Ethernet" shows as disconnected when I disconnect my VPN.
haha. it looks like you don't even have an actual ethernet connection.
You are connected via wifi and the one shown as "Ethernet" is NordVPN adapter.
Maybe rename it to "Nord" to avoid confusion and then Bind this adapter in your qBittorrent.
If I'm right, when you disconnect VPN, the one showing as "Ethernet" would show disconnected.
In this SS, you can see that "Ethernet" is the actual ethernet adapter. While "Ethernet 2" is NordVPN adapter
Personally I use private internet access (PIA) and I don't have any problem.
But I heard people having concerns after they have been bought a couple years ago.
Here NordVPN is listed first, maybe it changed since I last tried it.
PIA is reasonably priced for me and it works well, so I didn't feel the need to change when renewal time came.
What do you mean "bind" ?
I don't know how CyberGhost works, but if it grabs all your traffic then you don't need to do anything, your torrent traffic already goes trough it.
If the VPN creates a virtual network card for it's own traffic, there is an option in the advanced tab to use a specific network interface for traffic
Hmm very interesting. Had me worried since I'm also on Arch with Mullvad and qbittorrent. I have the Mullvad app though and it sets up iptables and routing rules automatically. Fingers crossed hope you don't get any DMCA letters lol
Hmm this is definitely quite worrisome How are you setting up the wg interface? Are you using the Mullvad app or manually using a wg config file? Are you using systemd-networkd or NetworkManager? If the former have you done anything unusual to the file (with the AllowedIPs or something)?
I’m having the same problem. I now watch carefully - and when Qbit starts Atrill switches off or resets. It’s very odd. Never had this problem until recently. And my DCMA notices went to spam - so I’ve been naughty a number of times and didn’t know. It’s worrying.
So I looked all over. Couldn’t find out the easy way of telling it to check for Astrill. Can you share the easy-peasy “look for this click that” version of setting this up? Thanks so much
I had the same issue with PrivateVPN and Qbit was stuck at Stalled. Took me a few days to figure out without calling them, but I did. It seems the VPN changed my windows adapter settings under Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections. There is a new WAN miniport there named: PrivateVPN Connection. You'll have to apply your credentials there.
Under Windows, you go to Settings/Network and Internet - Click on VPN on the left. You'll see your VPN name there and it will say disconnected. Now you'll need your VPN username and password and also the server address or VPN IP. Click on connect, and see if it connects. I had to change the connection type to TUN+TCP+443 in the wan port and VPN Client. Once you match all those up, the VPN port will connect and bam... Qbit started working again. Make sure you match the VPN connection port being used in Qbit under connection and use your VPN interface network under Advanced.
