They're congratulating him on being signed as a Williams F1 test driver. Some guy shows up saying how he raced Bottas in a lower category back in 2008.
He used to play live for speed. Here's a forum thread from 2010 where he' getting congratulated on signing a f1 contract. Bottas pops up on the third page...
>Thanks all for congratulating me! > >I played LFS for fun many years but unfortunately last 2 of my racing seasons has been so busy that I have not have time really to play.. but I'm sure I will play sometimes still in the future as LFS is a really fun game and you get really tight nice races online > >Have a nice races and maybe we see online some day! > > >Valtteri Bottas
https://www.lfs.net/forum/thread/65610-Williams-sign-LFS-license-holder-as-test-driver%21/page/3
unrelated but I remember reading a forum post for another simulator game discussing this one user who was faster than everyone - turns out it was Bottas. He then ends up commenting and thanking everyone for congratulating him on getting an f1 contract

Valtteri responds on page 3
Given that a few months have past since Oculus posted the requirements for the CV1, developers aiming to release titles for the CV1 should have a development/testing PC, with one of the recommended card. As you are a developer of the wonderful Live for Speed, I'm surprised you are still using what will be an unsupported card.
It isn't an ideal situation, but I'd prefer Oculus to devote all of its resources to the launch of the CV1.
And if anyone hasn't tried Live for Speed - you really should. A demo version is available, with more paid-for content - tracks & cars, etc...:
I know that Scawen, the developer of Live for Speed, one of the most popular and top rated titles on Oculus Share, has had a very difficult time reporting bugs and contacting any Oculus staff. People here even tried to help him, but he hasn't posted that anyone actually managed to get a response yet.

According to old Internet forums, in this clip, the trio react to a picture of a man... with his gonads... up an exhaust pipe.
Probably Valtteri Bottas. Because he was active in Live for speed before joining F1. He was very good and well known then at the racing community. This is his account http://www.lfsworld.net/?win=stats&racer=Vale
Edit: Here is a LFS community forum post in 2010 about Valtteri getting F1 test. https://www.lfs.net/forum/thread/65610-Williams-sign-LFS-license-holder-as-test-driver!
I know this isn't quite GPL, but Live For Speed might be a decent solution for toaster-type PCs too and definitely worth consideration. Plus, it generally works well with modern computers and less modern too.
Listen here, idiot. We've had enough of your obsessive nonsense and harassment. You caused constant trouble on our forums for a decade or so (I'm not going to waste my time measuring it). Once while serving a forum ban you defaced your account like this:
https://www.lfs.net/vatmoss/dawesdust_12.jpg
Now take a look at 1.5 of our Terms and Conditions and you will see why your ONE SINGLE ACCOUNT dawesdust_12 was banned.
Try this forum, they have race threads for the 2008 races (I think, haven't looked through everything) and discussions in between (like "Vettel potential world champion?" at the top there)
It isn't on steam. You have to download it from their main website, run it once and in settings change it to 3D.
EDIT: Oh, and if you are looking for a racing game, check out Project Cars, it has Vive support since yesterday and it's AWESOME.
Live for Speed supports both the Oculus and the Vive through OpenVR right now. I plan to spend a LOT of time playing this in VR. https://www.lfs.net/patch-6k
This guy's channel has several videos of it in action (not in English, sorry): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PE5sUaQgRUM
While LFS does look dated when it comes to dynamic lightning and shadows you can still make it look good without much of an FPS hit. A good place to start is here https://www.lfs.net/forum/thread/57857-The-misc-addons-repository There's some really good looking texture mods by the community. :)
> it's like there is no connection between what is happening in the game and the FFB
Because the game you're playing has a shit FFB implementation.
Try Live For Speed. It has great FFB.
Actually, Bottas used to drive in simracing as well. He drove for a team called Spdo Racing in Live For Speed, under the name of Vale.
You do get monocular depth cues, but no binocular ones. Most importantly no convergence, by far the most important one in VR! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Depth_perception
Compare with LFS: https://www.lfs.net/static/screenshots/lfs_south_city_oculus_rift2.jpg
Look at the position of the mirrors vs the wheels and the track barriers.
If you have not already tried it yet, get live for speed demo for free. The free demo gives you a few cars and let's you play multiplayer online. It has really good VR support and plays great.
Dirt Rally and Project Cars both support VR, or for something a little more homegrown take a look at Live For Speed.
As for steering wheels, my only experience is with an Xbox 360 steering wheel & pedals with the wireless USB dongle and with an unlimited budget I don't think that'll be your best bet :) Ps Can I come and work at your office please?
LFS (Live for Speed) is a racing game that pretty much hasn't been updated since 2011 or so. And, by the way, the picture is definetely a skin for the Formula V8. As you can see here, it's the exact same shape: https://www.lfs.net/cars/FO8
I don't know know why you think they're not? Racing games are a prime example of games that run at "low" rendering frame rates (most console games render at 30, some at 60), with high frequency simulations - 100-300hz isn't uncommon for the base sim, with other parts of the simulation (the vehicle, or the tyres or something) running at upwards of 500hz - some examples
Also, when dealing with networked games, you probably have a much lower simulation rate then rendering rate. [Supreme commander(https://blog.forrestthewoods.com/synchronous-rts-engines-and-a-tale-of-desyncs-9d8c3e48b2be#.nfxl98qn1) does a client side update at 60hz, but only does a "real" simulation step at 10hz. Many network games are similar, ranging from that (a very low number) with the highest I've seen being 128 with CS GO.
Try the free LIVE FOR SPEED - https://www.lfs.net/
Try the multiplayer servers in Assetto corsa... there are quite a few where you meet people and drift , or run around in friendly laps on the Nordschleife.
For G27, the settings for Assetto are herE: https://www.reddit.com/r/assettocorsa/comments/343g9v/best_g27_settings/
I dont know about these games, but can't you just set up a local server for lan? At least LFS has a free dedicated host that you could configure for lans https://www.lfs.net/downloads In LFS you can also play over lan without a dedicated server
Sometimes. A few times a year at least.
I got a three month trial last year, but the micro-transaction model it uses put me off somewhat (you pretty much have to pay for each track and car separately).
I'm not the video author by the way, but do a bit of sim racing on the side (and have a DK2).
Alternatives are:
None of these have the depth of multiplayer (rankings, leagues, etc) or eSports aspect of iRacing though.
https://www.lfs.net/forum/thread/86202
Not sure if you still need this patch to run DK2
"Hello Racers, here is a new TEST PATCH : 0.6F8
This test patch is fully compatible with version 0.6F
It contains :
Playing Live For Speed, driving the MRT5 with my Fanatec wheel last night has been the biggest gaming epiphany I have ever had.
That car drives like a kart and the feeling of speed is fucking unbelievable. I even lean with the car while turning and with the positional tracking it feels incredible.
Watching the replays from a bird's eye view feels like you're flying and is almost as thrilling as driving.
Trust me you owe it to yourself to try this if you haven't already.
I'm honestly not sure whether to call it a game or an experience though...
Demo version is completely free, and even has online racing thrown in the demo. I repeat, all free.
Played it a lot back in the day, and from what I've seen it works like a charm with the Rift. Should be an awesome experience.
It's not on steam. It's available here https://www.lfs.net/?page=shop for 24 GBP. Try the demo first though. It comes with a formula BMW car and two GTi (125hp 4I engines, one fwd, one rwd) cars. S2 comes with stuff like caterham copies, turbo cars and a porsche 911 alike among other things.
Somewhere in between. Not full out arcade, but not really a sim either. If you want realism go with rFactor 2 or my personal favorite in VR Live For Speed.
While we are absolutely against piracy and illegal use of LFS, as long as you don't discuss and/or promote illegal content (see Rule 6 on the sidebar), you can be an active part of (or using your words, "interact with") this subreddit. Stay on the topic of LFS, without mentioning you have an illegal copy (like you just did), and you're OK. On this subreddit, I could ban you for admitting the fact you have an illegal copy of LFS (as I think EVERYONE, who is using LFS should support it, the community and, most importantly, the developers, so this amazing racing simulator can continue growing), but I think that wouldn't make a difference and I wouldn't get my point across. Please just buy an official license on www.lfs.net, support the devs and enjoy LFS.
Stay here, but keep in mind, nobody will ignore the fact you pirated the sim and you may see this reflected in the comments below your posts.
Very true; sim games are perfect for VR, you also have no locomotion problems. For racing I still prefer LFS though ... has some of the best tire physics, great multiplayer code, easy online racing and doesn't cost nearly as much (even has a free version). Very well done VR impemetation as well https://www.lfs.net/
https://www.lfs.net/forum/post/517941
someone here claims to use a custom usb-serial adapter but the link they posted is broken
here is a way to get drivers working on win 7/10
might be worth trying to contact any of these people on those forums to see what they did
Did anyone try playing with the nvidia profile inspector? See this post at lfs forum describing succesful changes for LFS. If no one else does I'll have a go at it tonight and post results here...
Why would someone downvote this? If you are wanting to play a regular 2d game in the rift you will need Virtual Desktop or Bigscreen just like the link Heaney posted says. If you want to play other non Home VR games in the Rift, start out with downloading Live for Speed from https://www.lfs.net and go into the display options of the game and enable Rift. If that works for you then install Steam and download games that have VR support. After that you should have the hang of it and can search online for games that support Rift SDK 1.3 and try them also.
I've posted a screenshot on our forum. It should enter the Vive as soon as you click OK on this dialog:
SHIFT+F4 is just to toggle between full screen and window. You must be in a window to enter VR mode.
It looks like you can still get in if you ask the right people. Scawen (Live for Speed dev) received his Vive in just under a week. While he never got an answer to his original request. https://www.lfs.net/forum/post/1896242#post1896242
idk if this is super helpful, but it has been made for Live for speed already- https://www.lfs.net/forum/thread/77785-EBISU-Circuit-By-ShiftPulse
might help to take a look around it in game, and on maps to get an idea of the course for modeling.
If you want a highly realistic driving and car simulator mechanics wise and don't care too much graphics wise, I highly suggest you check out Live For Speed.
It is, in my opinion, the closest you will get to a driving simulation, more specifically if you use a racing wheel.
Live for Speed Test Patch H3 supports 0.6 (and therefore direct mode). It's very solid, I'm impressed by the timewarp system enforced by 0.6. Get the full version from our website www.lfs.net then add the new test patch for the 0.6 support. https://www.lfs.net/forum/thread/87997
"We are also drawing the cars using a more efficient method which helps keep the frame rate high, specially when there are a lot of cars visible." Now everyone can get over 200 fps all the time.
Also, the Westhill circuit is coming along. https://www.lfs.net/screenshots
It's one of the few titles with pretty rock-solid DK2 implementation.
https://www.lfs.net/forum/thread/86202
" INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS :
A full version of LFS 0.6F must already be installed - www.lfs.net

If you're new to drifting, low angle, low HP cars are where you should start. The stock 1m from Kunos is fun to throw around. I'd really recommend that you buy Liveforspeed if you plan on transitioning to real-world drifting or if you really enjoy drifting - It's extremely accurate to real life and a lot of people that drift professionally (and drive professionally, check out Valtteri Bottas playing LFS) - Honestly though, I bought LFS in 2007 and played it ever since (for the most part) and it taught me so much about steering feeling. First time drifting in RL was a breeze.

Hello! Thanks for answering and sorry for the late reply, I posted this and went to sleep lol
The cable seems like a phone one, and it's connected to the back of the wheel.
I've tried conecting themlike this but it didn't work.
I think they should be connected like this, but how do I know which cable has the 5v, the ground, the throttle and brake info?
At the same time, I don't know if that conecction will work, because the pots had a center pin and an outer pin connected (so seems like they are acting as a variable resistence rather than a voltage divider)
I have some homework to do rn but if you wait I can give you photos of the electronics inside of the wheel if that helps
If you want to do autocross on Sims, you should also check out Live for Speed. It comes with 3 autocross courses pre loaded and an in game course designer. No need to download mods or anything. It also records penalties when you hit pylons or go of course (or run over a marshal lmao)

Hi, first of all thanks for replying :)
Sorry for not mentioning https://www.lfs.net/files/setups. I'm aware of it, but I forgot to mention it.
What I meant was that maybe "hard to drive" setups require you to drive by abussing the car and the track, not necessarilly by driving smooth. I know that sometimes that's the way you get really fast laps but maybe that doesn't translate to good pace in a stint. And driving that way I supposed is something you only do once you get experience.
I know that it is unrealistic for a beginner to be braking WR on your first laps or even be close, and I wasn´t expecting that.
I will try practicing with the race setups instead of the default ones.
Thanks for helping

Sure you can be good with a controller in a number of simulators. Heck I played Live for Speed for years with mouse and keyboard before getting Logitech DFP.
I just generally assume that when seeing smooth driving it's experienced driver with wheel, gamepad drivers are more rare.
Where are you seeing this? Latest build I know of is 0.6 U11 > https://www.lfs.net/forum/thread/93185-Test-Patch-U11%3A-Fixes---VR-updates
Hey, a looooong time ago, you were a simracer on a game called Live For Speed. Ever since I saw that thread I knew you'd make it onto the grid and have been seeing you as the regular guy who made it.
https://www.lfs.net/forum/thread/65610-Williams-sign-LFS-license-holder-as-test-driver%21
It's made you very likable and relatable compared to some of the other drivers that I feel put on a personality. Ha, Sorry I know this isn't a question. Just keep what you're doing!
>OP. Check out live for speed. I think it supports what your looking for. You can steer, accelerate, and brake with the mouse alone. It is a sim racer and has been around for years. Online is still active.
>
>https://www.lfs.net/
Thanks. Knew about it but it can't be compared to Forza.
I hope they support this. I have tons of hours in the Forza games and I just don't see why this would be difficult to incorporate.
OP. Check out live for speed. I think it supports what your looking for. You can steer, accelerate, and brake with the mouse alone. It is a sim racer and has been around for years. Online is still active.
If you are looking for simulation, lfs was quite doable with a mouse (https://www.lfs.net/), probably possible in most sim. If you want something with realistic physics but more fun, arcady gameplay: beam NG is probably a good one. Since you are referring to borderlands, i guess you are looking for a bit more arcade style, far cry 5 was decent in its driving fun, not sure you can mouse steer though. GTA V is quite good too.
I would suggest you start with lfs though, fairly cheap, and really good one you get the hang of it. Surely if you like it, you'll fall in the sim racing love, and you'll have to find funds to buy or make your own wheel :-).
Enjoy!
Yes, it still has an active player base and drift scene. Here's a drift league, says they have 27 registered. https://www.lfs.net/leagues/516/season/602 Game is free to try.
+1
Huge dissapointment when I found out that I can't use my Logitech G29 with GeForce now.
Signed up for GFN instead of buying the next 4-year-gaming-laptop... I need to race again!
:)
Also: Could you add "Live for Speed" (https://www.lfs.net/) too?
I believe it still works with VR but maybe check out "Live for Speed". Not as fancy as some of the other racers but I recall it having great performance and still being a solid racer.
Think its https://www.lfs.net/
Assetto also solid and scalable though I recall some annoyances regarding navigating menu's.
360 degree fov is possible in some simulators.
Like live for speed:
Unlike most games that render from one camera. LFS can render from multiple cameras and map each of them to a separate monitor. This avoids fisheye issues and you can have full 360 degree fov if you have enough monitors.

Live For Speed. You can find more information about it on lfs.net. Its one of the better racing simulators out there, when it comes to physics.
I'm not a racer myself, the game has online servers where you can choose whether to race, drag, drift or just cruise around. I cruise. Been playing the game since 2008 when i first bought it. Drop me a PM if you wanna know more about it, this comment is already too long.

LFS link: https://www.lfs.net/
I already have it on my PC. But I would love to play it on my phone.
Live for Speed - https://www.lfs.net/
Very low minimum requirements but still a very competent simulator. Offers a free demo with a couple of cars and one track. You should definitely try it out, even with a higher spec pc.
What they say below SteamVR will down sample with a for VR weak Gpu.
Not sure what sim you are using but also be aware that you need a fairly strong Cpu for sim racing and in particular in VR.
Try download LFS. https://www.lfs.net/
It is a free demo and while limited in cars and tracks it is the least demanding of any sim racing game in VR.
And if looks fine and got good physics.
Find a post how to do Re-projecting as that can help you alot.
That will also help you see if you are Cpu or Gpu bound with the color indicators.
Otherwise Assetto Corsa are the least demanding of the more modem games but even that will struggle on you Gpu.
Lower all graphics setting and enable re projecting.
Also OC both Cpu and Gpu as much as you can
I used to have a Momo wheel with centering problems too.
Some info here : https://www.lfs.net/forum/thread/572-Logitech-DFP-and-Momo-Problems
I used to use a fix from the wingman team but it looks like they’ve gone now. The patch I used (from memory) was DX Tweak 2. http://www.avsimrus.com/f/misc-24/dx-tweak-2-v4-30-229-1506/download
No idea if it’ll help but fingers crossed :)
Since you mentioned your older computer and lack of a wheel I suggest you have a look at Live for Speed. It a realistic game, but supports the mouse instead of a wheel. Sounds odd but works incredible well.
I'm not sure if you have seen our recent graphics progress reports, starting here: https://www.lfs.net/report-aug2018-bl About night, I've recently done a bit of experimentation as you can see here: https://www.lfs.net/forum/thread/93101 About rain, nothing is planned in the near future and about bikes also no current plans, though yes I do have my own experimental motorbike.
Scawen posted this earlier today, that's why you should test T7, if you can:
>Hi, I've made a "last day change" that makes me quite nervous.
It's supposed to improve (and simplify) the way the "gearshift debounce" works. Some people still got an extra shift when releasing the shift button, and this change should solve that.
So, anyone who uses a wheel or controller, please can you try Test Patch T7 and let us know if it works fine?
Gearshift debounce setting has been reset to 40 ms so you may need to adjust that if you have problematic gearshift buttons.

>Join in and have fun. There is practice race today (Friday) good opportunity to get familiar with this mini endurance.
Live for Speed is worth a try. It's free, runs on low spec rigs (so your likely to get great VR performance) but the best thing, that I've yet to see implemented in any other games yet is proper 3 D mirrors. Being able to look around behind you and the view change as you move your head, and even moving so you see your own helmet, is superb. Once you've tried it, the 2D textured mirrors in all the other racing games just look so fake. https://www.lfs.net.
What are the odds! Just today I was using a very similar technique which I created some years ago, although for a (graphically rather simple) race sim called Live for Speed (LFS).
I don't know about Gimp or newer versions of Photoshop (I'm using CS2) but the solution I found is to decrease the visibility of each layer added (but keeping the "normal" layer mode). So the first image has full opacity, the image on top of that has 50% opacity, third has 33%, fourth has 25% etc. etc.
I should probably start using video capture as you suggested. It would give me a much smoother result and open up some more possibilities. As of now I've paused and captured screenshots manually. Since replay time can only be slowed down to x0.125 in LFS, I've even had to set up the gear ratios specifically so the car would go as slowly as possible.
Here are two edits I've uploaded today:
Live For Speed - demo is free (and a lot of content), but full licence is cheap if you like it. Will run great on even integrated graphics, and still has some of the best tire physics in any racing game.
On the G27, the black is ground and the white is common - they go to all three pedals. Then, there is (and must be) one unique wire for each pedal. It should be the same on the G29/920 pedals.
You have somehow lost a color. You need to find all five wires on both ends. Maybe this video will help. Also, a drawing of the wiring.
Valve's The Lap is a good free introduction with various mini games.
War Thunder's planes run fantastic in VR. I played it before but this is a completely different experience. (The ground forces don't work that well, thou)
When you are into racing sims, you should have a look at Live for Speed.
I love the design and exicution but your pedal angle is pretty far off from what real cars have. You should be pushing the pedals towards the firewall, not the floor. For G25/27/29 pedals the front slope should be ~60deg with the the centers of the pads are around 7" from the heel plate.
This guy extended his clutch so ignore that, but the way he raised them to height and used a 60deg angle is a good way to keep them compact. https://www.lfs.net/attachment/18290
For racing:
Life for Speed is pretty good.
Many options to adjust your car and 3 heat zones per tire. The free demo can entertain a group of friends for the whole LAN-party. It also has pretty smooth mouse steering support.
i think i know whats happening (at least with my g920) https://www.lfs.net/forum/thread/89152-Logitech-g920-problem if that guy right, my wheel still on C261, xbox mode and PC mode is C262, how to change is next challenge :)

Actually, all the cars which you can see in the video were real people-driven. The footage was recorded using replays from different online racing leagues, such as RTFR, CityLiga and FM Fox Friday (you can see a complete list at the end of the video and in the description.
As MagicHexer said, you can upload your skins to LFSW. Provided you have free slots, if you upload them there and you use it in-game, others will see that skin as well. On this page it shows that the maximum allowed resolution is 2048x2048, but currently, LFS only supports 1024x1024 (planned to support the higher one in the future).
If you are licensed, you have certain amount of free slots available for your skins (by default: 25 for S1, 50 for S2 and 75 slots for S3). You only have to pay if you want MORE slots than your license allows you to use.
Well I already had Dirt Rally and Project Cars, neither of which are free. But there is a cool indie driving sim called Live for Speed that's been going for years, and it has a pretty full featured demo if you want to give VR racing a try. https://www.lfs.net/
The graphics and sound are pretty dated, but the physics and multiplayer are excellent and the VR support if really solid too.
Several users have ended up with forum bans, for constant harassment and worse offences, as you can imagine. But only one user has had their license taken away, in accordance with our Terms and Conditions. https://www.lfs.net/agreement
To be totally clear, after tolerating many years of trouble from you, I had to remove your control of the dawesdust_12 account when you did this: https://www.lfs.net/vatmoss/dawesdust_12.jpg
We're trying to run a business but because you are obsessed with me and Live for Speed, it was becoming a full time job to moderate you.

Timetable:
17:00 UTC: Reserve Shootout - 30 minutes qual, splitting >30 drivers over multiple servers run concurrently, top 39 drivers get to the grid
18:00 UTC: Qualifying - 20 minutes
18:30 UTC: Race 1 (start order per qualifying result)
19:00 UTC: Race 2 (start order per Race 1 Result)
19:30 UTC: Race 3 (start order per Race 2 Result, except Top 6-10 reversal)
"Since we have less than 39 entries, the Reserve Shootout is not necessary. It will still run as scheduled, but will not be anything other than an officially scored free practice. This should make the "real" part of the event fit within a two hour window." - dekojester
While it is a bit of an apples/orange comparison, it is harder to get into medical school than the medical degree itself i.e. the volume is the rigor. And many get by with rote memorization.
The fact is if you are not understanding concepts in the math behind the engineering, then you simply are not getting the engineering degree done. I.e. rote memorization is impossible for it.
My opinion and fodder for a debate, but I'm certainly not the only one to have it.
For my fellow racing sim guys, apparently LFS now supports VR. This was pretty popular back in the day, has a good physics engine behind it. Lots of parameters to tweak as well.
It isn't pretty, but as a simulator it is great. Last time I was on this, multiplayer servers in the US were slim.
