They're congratulating him on being signed as a Williams F1 test driver. Some guy shows up saying how he raced Bottas in a lower category back in 2008.
He used to play live for speed. Here's a forum thread from 2010 where he' getting congratulated on signing a f1 contract. Bottas pops up on the third page...
>Thanks all for congratulating me! > >I played LFS for fun many years but unfortunately last 2 of my racing seasons has been so busy that I have not have time really to play.. but I'm sure I will play sometimes still in the future as LFS is a really fun game and you get really tight nice races online > >Have a nice races and maybe we see online some day! > > >Valtteri Bottas

Nitronic Rush, an action racing game with a kick-ass procedural soundtrack and a tron-esqe art style. Built from the ground up in C++. Your car can change angles midair, boost with a litteral rocket on the back (No joke, if you get the angle right you can fly with it), and on the non-hardcore levels you have WINGS. They're trying to fund a spiritual successor on kickstarter, and I don't usually advertise, but they need to get funded. Please.
Lose the video games and play a sim: http://rfactor.net/ http://www.iracing.com/ you have the setup for it. attach rear speakers in 5.1 setup right behind your ears to hear engine noise better in 911s!
unrelated but I remember reading a forum post for another simulator game discussing this one user who was faster than everyone - turns out it was Bottas. He then ends up commenting and thanking everyone for congratulating him on getting an f1 contract

Valtteri responds on page 3
Also, if you weren't sure about if you want to play/spend money on this game yet please play the original (student project). It can be a little buggy on some people's systems, but it's a great game.
Nitronic Rush is a pretty fun indie racing game, gameplay is reminiscent of the rush games, and can be pretty fun for a while.
As garyyo pointed out though, Trackmania is probably my favorite multiplayer racing game, I love the idea of all cars being the same and the only way to beat someone is by simply outperforming them.
Distance and Talos Principle at those prices are an absolute steal.
Both games have unique and memorable settings and music that fits both universes perfectly. These games are worth saying "fuck it" and buying them (at full price) even if you're relunctant.
Also Distance has a completely free predecessor called Nitronic Rush which is incredibly good in its own right and worth checking out. Here's a link to the download page - http://nitronic-rush.com/download-game/
As an extension to this, if you want to get a feel for it, download Nitronic Rush, it's a student game from the developers of Distance before they made it, its got all the core gameplay from Distance with an awesome soundtrack. (its free too)

Have you ever played Nitronic Rush? If you haven't, do that. It's free and so much fun. And the music is just awesome, too (and also free).
Could I suggest Nitronic Rush? It's a free futuristic race/survival game very much in the spirit of F-Zero and the like, with excellent Tron-style visuals and a great soundtrack.
It's not anything new and revolutionary, but if you want a fresh and updated take on the race games of old, it should be right up your alley.
What? Are you kidding? When was the last time you tried rFactor 2? The new (although not so new anymore, it's been more than a few months now) rFactor 2 UI is great. It's all very condensed and easy to use with all the options available right in front of you. Visually, it even looks good. You wouldn't even think this was made by the same people who created the original awful, useless, and ugly UI from before.
Honestly I think Assetto Corsa and especially Project CARS could learn a few things from the new UI.
The wheel was super easy to set up for me. One of the easiest out there actually. The only snag I hit was having to check "allow game to override settings" in the Logitech profiler so that rF2 would automatically set the steering lock angle.
Indeed, that list is majorly disinformative.
Also rF2's physics, FFB and AI are a major step above the rest, and has car modifications to some extent.
> The Kodi ZR, in the true rFactor style, comes with an epic (almost 60) tuning options. There are three class packages that include a selection from three rear wings, three side skirts, three front end (aero) packages, three rear end (aero) packages, three tire options, three suspension types, two different steering options (standard and drifting), three brake disc selections, three hoods, two horn variants, four exhausts, two computer chips, four engines, three clutch options, three flywheels, four transmission options, two differentials, two fuel tank sizes and two cockpit layout variants (that can be further adjusted by removing weight from the cockpit under weight reduction).
Given that a few months have past since Oculus posted the requirements for the CV1, developers aiming to release titles for the CV1 should have a development/testing PC, with one of the recommended card. As you are a developer of the wonderful Live for Speed, I'm surprised you are still using what will be an unsupported card.
It isn't an ideal situation, but I'd prefer Oculus to devote all of its resources to the launch of the CV1.
And if anyone hasn't tried Live for Speed - you really should. A demo version is available, with more paid-for content - tracks & cars, etc...:
My case for those of you still on the fence about backing this kickstarter: Nitronic Rush, the student project that inspired Distance. It is unbelievably fun to play!
Everything Disney has done with it since Legacy has been a waste of the license. It really says something when the best Tron game wasn't even official and was made years ago
I know that Scawen, the developer of Live for Speed, one of the most popular and top rated titles on Oculus Share, has had a very difficult time reporting bugs and contacting any Oculus staff. People here even tried to help him, but he hasn't posted that anyone actually managed to get a response yet.

Distance. It's in alpha right now but you can preorder the beta here: http://survivethedistance.com/
It is basically a "spiritual successor" to Nitronic Rush. It was one of their college projects I believe. Free game you can download here: http://nitronic-rush.com/
Anyway, I think your biggest mistake is assuming Kickstarter is a store. It's not. It's a cultural investment. It's saying "I really want you to make this exist, here's funding."
Calling it a scam is just stupid. You can only feel scammed by it if you foolishly assume it's a place to buy things.
It isn't a scam in the same way Pope Julius II wouldn't have been "scammed" if Michelangelo decided to get lazy painting the Sistine Chapel.
However, I do see Kickstarter-style funding as a potential alternative to intellectual property.
According to old Internet forums, in this clip, the trio react to a picture of a man... with his gonads... up an exhaust pipe.
My case for those of you still on the fence about backing this kickstarter: Nitronic Rush, the student project that inspired Distance. It is unbelievably fun to play!
Remember: not all software is packaged under the name of the application.
In this case, run
apt search <name of program>
For example, you want to install Super Tux Kart, but the package isn't named "Super Tux Kart" and apt obviously can't understand what you want to install
ivan@batou:~$ apt search super tux kart Ordinamento... Fatto Ricerca sul testo... Fatto supertuxkart/xenial,now 0.9.1-3 amd64 [installato] 3D kart racing game
supertuxkart-data/xenial,xenial,now 0.9.1-3 all [installato, automatico] 3D kart racing game (data)
supertuxkart-dbg/xenial 0.9.1-3 amd64 3D kart racing game (debug)
ivan@batou:~$
There's actually been some serious discussion about this on the GL forums. I believe the conclusion is that +1 to attacks is the overall best ability. +1 to near misses is only good if you are skilled enough to pull them off, otherwise 30% combo bonus would be next best.
+4 seconds to combo timer is also good if you break your combos often, but your score suffers a bit for it.
Based off of that, the best Spideys would be (at least until new ones with better abilities are released):
1 - Battle Damaged/Bulletproof (+1 to attacks/+1 to near misses)
1a - Scarlet Spider (Ben Reilly) - (+1 to attacks/30% combo bonus)
2 - Spider-Man (Ben Reilly)/Superior Spider-Man - (+1 to attacks/+4 seconds to combo timer)
I would love to be able to play Command & Conquer, Warcraft 2 or Starcraft on my phone . The closest I've found is Starfront Collision
I think you'd enjoy Assetto, rFactor 2 has a demo http://rfactor.net/web/rf2/ iRacing has very well structured leagues and lots of real race drivers competing. Dirt Rally if you want some of that kind of fun.
It's actually still available, and it works with Win 10 with no extra hassle required. It lacks some of the technical features most games have these days*, but it works just like back in the day.
^(*things like windowed mode or ~~gamepad support~~)
^(Edit: it does support gamepads)
Probably Valtteri Bottas. Because he was active in Live for speed before joining F1. He was very good and well known then at the racing community. This is his account http://www.lfsworld.net/?win=stats&racer=Vale
Edit: Here is a LFS community forum post in 2010 about Valtteri getting F1 test. https://www.lfs.net/forum/thread/65610-Williams-sign-LFS-license-holder-as-test-driver!
It's your trophy rank. Check this image for what position you need for each rank. You can get these trophies from playing live matches (not ranked though), earning medals in seasonal campaign and playing TOTD and COTD.
You can check your rank either by clicking your name on the top left in main menu or by going to https://trackmania.io.
Try Nitronic Rush
Steam not required. Free. It is developed by students at DigiPen. Pretty cool & satisfying driving visuals.
Well I just emailed Gameloft! I emailed Benjamin Perlee, he’s the PR for United States mentioning this idea.
Even if millions & billionaires have pledged money, it’s still something that we the little people can do. France is likely wanting to keep to near originality of the Cathedral and it will probably be expensive.
I would love to even believe that I’m assisting in the reconstruction.
Here’s the link to a lot of different countries PR & Marketing Heads: http://www.gameloft.com/corporate/en/press-room/contacts/
These are true simulators.
Gran Turismo is not strictly a sim, the physics alone are ridiculous. It does have some very highly detailed car models if that's what you're looking for in a simulator. But the gameplay itself is rather arcadey compared to the 2 I linked above.
IMO, yes. Even if it's in Early Access at the moment, it's definitly worth trying out for the price it's at right now.
If you're still skeptical, try it's spiritual predecessor, Nitronic Rush, which is fantastic in it's own right, first, and then buy Distance if you want more.
Just a head's up: Not providing any info on what game you're referring to until you click through is kind of bad form.
From the site:
>Survival driving game developed by students at DigiPen
>Nitronic Rush is an experimental survival driving game. Using the car’s many abilities (including boost, wings, and jump), avoid obstacles that the city throws at you. In many ways the game is a tribute to racing games of the 1990s but with fresh graphics, audio, and gameplay.
It's a student indie game from late 2011 with quite a few downloads and awards. A commentor on Destructoid called it "Rush 2049 meets Tron". It's free, so why not.
The mobile game industry is such a crap shoot nowadays. I've worked with multiple mobile developers as well as marketing experts who specialize in mobile, and I've seen many examples of teams that "made all the right moves" and still failed to make money off their games. Their products were visually appealing and well-made; they got reviews posted on sites like Pocket Gamer; they managed to get placed on iTunes' "New and Noteworthy" or similar, front-page lists; and overall, they followed all the steps you can find in any of those "How to market your mobile game" articles you can find online. Despite all that, their products got barely any downloads.
Meanwhile, the lone dude who made Flappy Bird did absolutely no marketing or promotion, and his game was downloaded 50 million times before it was removed from the digital marketplace.
People have a clear idea of what should work, but in reality mobile game success depends on the planets aligning properly while a double rainbow streaks across the sky right outside your window. Many of the most impressive success in this space just clicked with the audience, and in most cases there's no way to intentionally replicate that appeal.
That's why the biggest mobile game publishers - like Gameloft - generate revenue by having their collection of dev studios bombard the app stores with a seemingly endless supply of new games. Just look at Gameloft's portfolio of iOS games. They know that a majority of their games aren't going to make much money, but the profits from their successful minority will pay for everything else. Also, they have built-in marketing; their successful, popular games include ads to their new games, so ideally their users will continue to hop from one Gameloft game to the next. Companies like this are simply playing a numbers game.
Hmmmm, it does have at least one car from the greatest family of cars it seems. http://rfactor.net/web/rf2/cars/chevrolet-corvette-c6-r/ and if I don't like this game it's safe to assume I don't like this genre. I'll probably pick it up tomorrow. Thanks brother, sorry I took so much of your time :)
Try the demo and make the decision your self. Latest demo (released only 2 weeks ago) includes Karts, Formula Renault 3.5 & AC Cobra around Atlanta Motorsport Park.
I also own everything, except rFactor 2 (and Project CARS)... this latest demo has put me on the fence, and I think it could easily be my next purchase. There's a steady stream of updates and content coming from first party, which is good... because to me it seems that the third party content is much slower compared to Assetto Corsa, like all the old rF1 mod teams went there.
I know this isn't quite GPL, but Live For Speed might be a decent solution for toaster-type PCs too and definitely worth consideration. Plus, it generally works well with modern computers and less modern too.
Listen here, idiot. We've had enough of your obsessive nonsense and harassment. You caused constant trouble on our forums for a decade or so (I'm not going to waste my time measuring it). Once while serving a forum ban you defaced your account like this:
https://www.lfs.net/vatmoss/dawesdust_12.jpg
Now take a look at 1.5 of our Terms and Conditions and you will see why your ONE SINGLE ACCOUNT dawesdust_12 was banned.
Try this forum, they have race threads for the 2008 races (I think, haven't looked through everything) and discussions in between (like "Vettel potential world champion?" at the top there)
It isn't on steam. You have to download it from their main website, run it once and in settings change it to 3D.
EDIT: Oh, and if you are looking for a racing game, check out Project Cars, it has Vive support since yesterday and it's AWESOME.
Live for Speed supports both the Oculus and the Vive through OpenVR right now. I plan to spend a LOT of time playing this in VR. https://www.lfs.net/patch-6k
This guy's channel has several videos of it in action (not in English, sorry): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PE5sUaQgRUM
While LFS does look dated when it comes to dynamic lightning and shadows you can still make it look good without much of an FPS hit. A good place to start is here https://www.lfs.net/forum/thread/57857-The-misc-addons-repository There's some really good looking texture mods by the community. :)
> it's like there is no connection between what is happening in the game and the FFB
Because the game you're playing has a shit FFB implementation.
Try Live For Speed. It has great FFB.
Actually, Bottas used to drive in simracing as well. He drove for a team called Spdo Racing in Live For Speed, under the name of Vale.
You do get monocular depth cues, but no binocular ones. Most importantly no convergence, by far the most important one in VR! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Depth_perception
Compare with LFS: https://www.lfs.net/static/screenshots/lfs_south_city_oculus_rift2.jpg
Look at the position of the mirrors vs the wheels and the track barriers.
While not on this subreddit, the topic has been discussed at length on the official forum
For comparison's sake, here is the old one.
My opinion is that while the old one wasn't exactly brilliant, the new one is pretty horrid.
There is a lot of rfactor 2 information here:
http://rfactor.net/web/rf2/devscorner/
Then you can read on the forum here:
http://isiforums.net/f/forumdisplay.php/44-Track-Modding
For example check out the "Bare minimum" sticky thread for basic stuff on getting started.
While the 2012 Formula ISI might be an older model and chassis, this car is used by a large number of rFactor 2 Grand Prix racing leagues around the world. Something more modern is in the pipeline, but we wanted to bring the 2012 car up-to-date before that (mainly because a lot of people don’t like the modern cars).
The vast majority of work went into the physics and tires, there are only minor visual tweaks.
Non-Steam: 108 MB
Steam link: Coming…
Changelog:
– Tyre Tweaks.
– AI cut corners less.
– Downforce slightly increased (about 3+%).
– Faster pit times for tyre changes.
– Reduced max toe angles.
– Minor setup tweaks.
– Minor chassis tweaks, including better unsprung masses.
– New steering system.
– Recalculated brake system, including reduced brake bias adjustability range.
– .75kg fuel steps now (near enough to 1L)
– Removed redundant class filter from .veh files “ISI_FM02”
– Tyres updated to use CPM, including wet tyre improvements.
– Moved to Ultrachassis (which includes proper working chassis flex, DOF improvements, additional compliance’s, and quicker (more direct) steering).
– AI correlation tweaks.
– Placed pushrods near upright to decrease inaccurate ‘degressive rates’.
– Tiny Aero tweaks. Including very slight reduction to turbulent air.
– Latest sound attenuation tweaks.
– Slight optimization to LOD distances.
– Some additional newer tracks added to trackconfigs.ini
Rain is drivable, multiple legaues have done wet races for a long while, but only the car updates released after build 930 have finished rain tires with the updated parameters. The older cars are in the process of getting those updates too.
Revised rain effects are also in the works.
As far as I know AI are indeed affected by tire wear, though the AI don't use the exact same tire physics as the player does (that would of course be impossible due to the amount of system resources needed). So it's hard to make a direct comparison.
Someone with more knowledge on the subject will hopefully make a more detailed explanation.
Until them, perhaps take a look around here. Lot of good information on the ins and outs of rF2: http://rfactor.net/web/rf2/devscorner/
If you have not already tried it yet, get live for speed demo for free. The free demo gives you a few cars and let's you play multiplayer online. It has really good VR support and plays great.
First of all, do you have Starter (free), Standard or Club Access?
You can find a detailed comparison of what you can do with which access here.
If you have Standard or Club access you don't even need to download the ghosts anymore, but can activate them ingame directly (Settings > "Interface" > "Always display records" and then open those by clicking on the clock symbol on the left side of the screen in the middle. Activate a ghost by clicking on the eye symbol) while playing in Solo mode. For Live you need Club to do the same.
For the free version (Starter Access): I honestly don't know if playing against a downloaded replay is possible, or if you need Standard or even Club there too.
Anyway, if you plan on buying it: Apparently it is advised to do so via Ubisoft, not Epic, that seems to have a lot of issues for a lot of players.
Do you mean Nitronic Rush? http://nitronic-rush.com/
If so, these are the same devs, Distance is their follow-up game, polished and touched-up.
Unfortunately, the team has disbanded a while ago and everyone is going to go their own way :(
If this is your kind of game, go checkout Nitronic Rush - They have released a Nitronic Rush 1 which is super great and well done(also free on the site), with Tron like colors and boosters kinda like rocket league. Their new game they are also are showing off on their website is not yet done, so don't buy it as there is no where near as many maps as there should be for the price.
Distance is amazing. If you want to give it a try before buying download Nitronic Rush, its spiritual predecessor. Distance plays almost the same as Nitronic Rush but with a lot more polish.
This is incredible news! I've been waiting for Distance since it's announcement (that was a long time ago, wasn't it?).
I remember playing Nitronic Rush for the first time and thinking "Woah, this could be pretty fun". Then days later I realized it's one of those games where when you play it enough, you get on another level.
Like Rhythm games, where you start on Easy and think "This is cool" then weeks later when you're playing on Expert you think "I knew nothing! Easy was hardly even a game!"
It's the first time a racing game has ever done that to me. I even have a hard time calling it a racing game because it's something else. I just don't know what that "something else" is called.
Ninjaedit: For anyone that wants to play Nitronic Rush, the (free) ancestor of this game:
It's free, just a small arcade-like racing game with scoreboards and such. There's no Multiplayer (but IIRC they patched in a multiplayer-ghost-thing), but it's fun enough alone. Once you beat the normal levels, please try the advanced ones. That is when the real game starts.
> How fleshed out are the driving mechanics? Is it just accelerate, brake and steer or can you drift, attack your opponents in some way, etc.?
You can accelerate, boost, jump, roll in the air (which is needed to reach walls to ride in the more complex levels), and even fly. No drifting though.
Check out Nitronic Rush, Distance is pretty much a much more complete and (to be) polished version of it.
For something more unconventional, try Nitronic Rush. To describe it in one sentence: Tron-inspired over-the-top obstacle course time trials in a flying car. It was made as a student project, and is completely free.
Unfortunately at this rate it appears the kickstarter will not be funded! This kickstarter needs reddit's help. If the video isn't enough to convince you, I'd highly recommend playing Nitronic Rush (its free!) Even if you're not interested in funding Distance, its a blast to play.
You can find Nitronic Rush here: http://nitronic-rush.com/
Be it BlitzMax, GameMaker, Multimedia Fusion... you name it, I agree with the general sentiment in this post and I believe the problem is simple: ego.
For some reason, it seems it's not really programming, you are "cheating" if you use such tools. Like: "You use that drag and drop GameMaker thing? shame on you for not doing the real thing and learning proper C++".
Fun fact is: those tools are perfectly adequate for the 90% of 2D games out there and have quite good performance. And I care more about having fun with your game than how many lines of code you wrote for that great memory allocator.
Random trivia: The latest game I played (which is free btw) is Nitronic Rush. When the game starts there is a prominent screen with a message that goes something along the lines: "And we made our own 3D engine for this all by ourselves".
While impressive, all I care is: is the game fun?
Here is there exact response from today for my ticket with the same issue:
Hello,
Thank you for your response.
We are sorry to hear that you have had an issue.
Unfortunately, we cannot accept liability, or provide any compensation for this case.
We would consider this functionality to be part of the normal operation of the game.
We do feel sorry that we cannot help on this occasion but I hope that you are able to continue enjoying our games.
Please do not hesitate to contact me again, if there is anything further we can help with in the meantime.
Juan Pablo Customer Care Agent http://www.gameloft.com/ http://support.gameloft.com/
The official word seems to be "to protect children from online interactions". And according to the FAQ, hearts will no longer be used in the game. WTF?
Oh, here's a link to a Gameloft MLP forum post with more info:
Did you consider Gameloft? I'm working for the Montreal studio and there's actually a Sound Designer position available : http://www.gameloft.com/corporate/jobs/job-apply-details/38/?group=87&job=3253&loc=1&applyby=categ&country=en&lang=en
They even offer French course for new comers.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions!
The Settlers is semi-city building, has strategic and combat elements as well though.
Townsmen 6 Similar to the settlers.
Also worth noting, I haven't actually played either of the above games, but they have been recommended to me before.
Both arent exactly what you're looking for, but most city building games I've seen have just been exactly what you said, farmville/facebook-ey.
You could always download an emulator and play Sim City for the SNES or something too :P
Gameloft has several high quality games that are similar to hot console games. For instance, I know they have a GTA style game, an Assassin's Creed type game, soccer games, racing games, FPS games, you name it.
LOL why are you avoiding my point about HD games being able to run on Android but can't run on shitPhone 4?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asphalt_5#Asphalt_5_HD
*Edit:
http://www.gameloft.com/android-hd-games/
here's a huge list of HD not shitty iphone resolution games that are way more fun than iphone.
> To that end ISI have not bothered to build a street car.
/u/Pio48 , this is inaccurate.
The AC 427, multiple versions of the Corvette C6, the Honda NSX 1991 and the 1999 Panoz roadster are all default road cars in rFactor 2.
http://rfactor.net/web/rf2/ Just scroll down...
Also free demo on their site:
Finally a good singleplayer Nascar sim again!
Edit: Played around for a bit and found out that the AI is absolutely retarded when it comes to yellow flags. They want to finish their lap before they brake after the line, causing massive pileups. It looks really great with cars flying around lol. But it seems like this is a known issue. Until then I would race without yellow flags if you want to avoid dead drivers and visitors.
You can for AU$50. See http://rfactor.net/web/rf2/rf2help/
You get one year free with purchase, so a further 2 years is still cheaper.
It is expensive if you compare it with other titles, however unlike other titles, all future content released is provided to you as part of that cost and there is a crap load coming. No purchasable DLC!
Think of it as a precision tool instead of a racing game, pick up some of the amazing mods available and realise the bargain it would be at double the cost.
I've had 3 years of incredible experiences on my own and online, if that ain't worth 3 slabs, well I dunno!
Lime Rock Park has an undocumented small skidpad somewhere when you drive up the hill to the left at the end of the paddock.
Tiger-Moth is the Top Gear test track.
I haven't seen a dedicated skidpad track for rF2 though.
I remember I used one in the F1-Challenge 99-02 days.
LFS (Live for Speed) is a racing game that pretty much hasn't been updated since 2011 or so. And, by the way, the picture is definetely a skin for the Formula V8. As you can see here, it's the exact same shape: https://www.lfs.net/cars/FO8
I don't know know why you think they're not? Racing games are a prime example of games that run at "low" rendering frame rates (most console games render at 30, some at 60), with high frequency simulations - 100-300hz isn't uncommon for the base sim, with other parts of the simulation (the vehicle, or the tyres or something) running at upwards of 500hz - some examples
Also, when dealing with networked games, you probably have a much lower simulation rate then rendering rate. [Supreme commander(https://blog.forrestthewoods.com/synchronous-rts-engines-and-a-tale-of-desyncs-9d8c3e48b2be#.nfxl98qn1) does a client side update at 60hz, but only does a "real" simulation step at 10hz. Many network games are similar, ranging from that (a very low number) with the highest I've seen being 128 with CS GO.
Try the free LIVE FOR SPEED - https://www.lfs.net/
Try the multiplayer servers in Assetto corsa... there are quite a few where you meet people and drift , or run around in friendly laps on the Nordschleife.
For G27, the settings for Assetto are herE: https://www.reddit.com/r/assettocorsa/comments/343g9v/best_g27_settings/
I dont know about these games, but can't you just set up a local server for lan? At least LFS has a free dedicated host that you could configure for lans https://www.lfs.net/downloads In LFS you can also play over lan without a dedicated server
https://www.lfs.net/forum/thread/86202
Not sure if you still need this patch to run DK2
"Hello Racers, here is a new TEST PATCH : 0.6F8
This test patch is fully compatible with version 0.6F
It contains :
Playing Live For Speed, driving the MRT5 with my Fanatec wheel last night has been the biggest gaming epiphany I have ever had.
That car drives like a kart and the feeling of speed is fucking unbelievable. I even lean with the car while turning and with the positional tracking it feels incredible.
Watching the replays from a bird's eye view feels like you're flying and is almost as thrilling as driving.
Trust me you owe it to yourself to try this if you haven't already.
I'm honestly not sure whether to call it a game or an experience though...
Demo version is completely free, and even has online racing thrown in the demo. I repeat, all free.
Played it a lot back in the day, and from what I've seen it works like a charm with the Rift. Should be an awesome experience.
It's not on steam. It's available here https://www.lfs.net/?page=shop for 24 GBP. Try the demo first though. It comes with a formula BMW car and two GTi (125hp 4I engines, one fwd, one rwd) cars. S2 comes with stuff like caterham copies, turbo cars and a porsche 911 alike among other things.
Straight from R*. Not a single mention of the PvP aspect:
“Grand Theft Auto Online is a dynamic and persistent online world for 16 players (or up to 30 on PS4, Xbox One and PC) that begins by sharing gameplay features, geography and mechanics with Grand Theft Auto V, but will continue to expand and evolve after its launch with new content created by Rockstar Games and the Grand Theft Auto community. You can unlock extra features and abilities for Chop in game. Could be that a fully upgraded Chop is needed for sniffing out clues? Not a bad idea OP.
Nitronic Rush is free and DRM Free. Can't really go wrong, and I had a blast with it. It's more of a time-trials obstacle course racing game than a competitive one, but it's definitely worth taking a look at.
Awesome. I'm excited to pick it up if it goes on sale for a good price. What would you pay for it? Also, if you haven't played Nitronic Rush you can download it here. It's totally worth playing and it might be cool to see this game's roots. The Devs made this at DigiPen and Distance is their finalized version of the concept.
Check out Nitronic Rush, a free racing game that is a ton of fun. The 'hardcore' tracks in the game require flipping, riding walls, and other tricks to get to the end, and when you're nailing every maneuver it feels great. They are also making a spiritual sequel 'Distance' that I hope will live up to the original when it comes out.
Distance. It's still in early access, so if you're not sure try out the prototype, Nitronic Rush - it's free and it'll give you an idea of what to expect.
Speaking of racing games, Distance is time attack based and has split screen! (Just make sure you have 4 XBox controllers)
Edit: Nitronic Rush is the predecessor of distance, and its free! No MP though...
And for the fans of the Rush series there is a spiritual successor called Distance that is in Early Access but looks like it has potential. If you want to try their previous game check out Nitronic Rush for free.
You're going to want to take a look at the free rocket-car racing game Nitronic Rush: http://nitronic-rush.com/
Here's a video to see what it's all about: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPkFXO7tumk&t=1m31s
You might like the free game Nitronic Rush then. There's also a new version out on Steam called Distance. You should definitely check those out
Have you played Nitronic Rush?
I think you'd appreciate it. It's free. It's an audio/visual stunt racing game - the music is based on what you're doing in game and it's one hell of a soundtrack. If you've got a controller + PC give it a spin.
If you want to get a feel of this game, try the free predecessor, http://nitronic-rush.com/
I loved nitronic and backed Distance on kickstarter, I am in the credits :D
Distance is amazing despite being unfinished. If you played and enjoyed the free original version of the game (http://nitronic-rush.com/ ) Then distance is a no brainer, so much upcoming content and user created content. Most of all just a fun game with a interesting concept.
After my second PS3 broke and I gave up on consoles, I've been getting my fill with a PSP emulator and wipeout pulse. Looks pretty damn glorious at 1080p considering the target platform but I agree, it's been too long. I've got my eye on Distance (by the guys who made who made Nitronic Rush at Digipen, well worth a play!) but I've not played it yet.
If you liked some of racers of the 90's like rollcage and wipeout this may be of interest to you. http://survivethedistance.com/
Its a spiritual successor to a university project called nitronic rush. You can download that for free here http://nitronic-rush.com/download-game/
Nitronic Rush, what with all the techno-dubstep dynamic soundtrack and whatnot.
Download the game (Free, includes a feakin' flying Delorean).
Soundtrack Playlist (Neon Skyway is my favourite, but the 6 first ones are the most representative of the style).
Looks good, but I hope the soundtrack isn't so "trance"y like the one in the video.
For games this type of game, the music is so much of the game, like in the Wipeout series. In Wipeout they generally stuck to "big beat" house and oftentimes "Jungle", then getting more progressive as the series aged. I still think Wipeout II had one of the best game soundtracks ever put together, it had so many big name dj's/songs it was crazy..
I'm only saying this because I've played a number of Wipeout clones and it was really hard to get mindlessly deep into the game because the music was sub par (they use techno, but way too trance-y techno, put's you to sleep).
On another note, here's one game I thought was pretty cool, not exactly wipeout (more like Rush 2049) but the music was pretty damn good, and it's free!

I'm sure someone else could do better (I'm just a student) but to start you could take a look at Nitronic Rush. Student game, made from scratch (engine, tools, levels, art, music etc.)
Because it's international, there might be some extra concerns.
But just in the US, there's nothing illegal about taking someone else's room ideas as long as you don't violate copyrights. The puzzles and mechanics of games are not protected under copyright law, and very rarely every protected by patents (magic the gathering's 'tap' mechanic is one of the most famous examples of someone actually getting a game mechanic patent).
So unless they copied something copyrighted in a room - like a name or the script word for word - there's not much you can do about it.
This is why you can find so many puzzle games on phones that are all variants on swapping two objects to create sets - candy crush, bejewled, etc... And why there were 1000's of tetris clones in the 80's. You simply can't copyright game play - GameLoft's entire business model is fast copying hits.
The only counter to this is strong branding. When McDonald's made the first fast food burger lots of people followed - so McDonald's had to stand out - because it looked nothing like it does today. They now have secret flavors and brand recognition with their characters and big yellow arches, there's no mistaking the real thing for a knock off.
Now, if you buy the plans from someone and you sign a contract that says you can't sell them - that's a whole other discussion about contract enforcement.
