We always bring ours everywhere with us. Travel via car, plane, you name it. Never had an issue with customs. I also have an app on my phone (iOS - https://apps.apple.com/us/app/white-noise-lite/id292987597 | Android - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tmsoft.whitenoise.lite&hl=en_CA&gl=US) which isn't bad, just in case we forget the unit or it breaks.
Totally bring yours, it will be fine.
I use White Noise Lite. It has lots of different sounds available and loads of nifty features.
Lots of the apps you can use for monitoring sleep have white noise options built in, like Sleep as Android .
Apologies if you're an idevice person and my suggestions are actually not useful!
Edit : I just totally mixed up which sub I'm in... Thought I was in /r/insomnia! My suggestions remain the same though lol
I find white noise really helpful, and of you have an Android phone I would suggest this app. It has all kinds of different sounds, you can even customise it to play several together.
Yes, my brother stays up all night screaming while playing LoL, it's been 5 years since he kept that routine, so i fixed it by playing a rain sound to mute his voice on my room, try the app, it's free, but after some time i end up buying it, i dont even remember why though.

Also not a shill. I use White Noise at night, and youtube at work.
Try White Noise Lite if you're still looking for one to help you fall asleep. You can upgrade for better quality audio but iv had no reason to because they all sound just fine to me. Lots of different ambient sounds or melodies to listen to. You have to download the market version of the app to install new sounds but it's still free. Been using it for about 2 years now and it's the best iv found.

I have a few apps installed but almost always use White Noise
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tmsoft.whitenoise.lite&hl=en_AU
I prefer a mix of rain/thunderstorm to help me sleep.
use this app with soft comfortable earphones
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tmsoft.whitenoise.lite .
if earphones are uncomfortable, use a speaker at a loud volume. Should work alright.
I had the exact same problem. worked great. Try Air Conditioner mode
I use White Noise Lite. There is a Marketplace app as well with lots of additional noises; users can upload their own stuff, so the selection is always growing. It's amazing. Hands down the best white noise app I've tried. With the free version you can mix up to 5 sounds together, and tweak the qualities of the sounds, and I have had no need for the "pro" version.
Seriously, try a white noise app. Turn it up fairly loud and you will not hear much from outside. I went through several apps before I found the one I like. If there a slight pause in the sound loop it wakes me up. I use white noise lite. the pink noise is my favorite.
This is the app I use. I use the free version, but I think you can buy a version that will allow you to customize the noise by adjusting the frequencies used.
I used White Noise Free but I'm sure there are others.
I was being driven mad in my old apartment and gave this a go and it worked a treat. you can't hear anything except the white noise. hope it works out.
Here is what I do, as someone with noisy neighbors who also cannot sleep on my back: Plug earbuds (the gummy kind that go inside your ears is bed) into your phone, download a White Noise app like this one, and play brown noise. This isn't a good long-term solution but can perhaps provide relief for now!
I actually found White Noise Free which has Chromecast support.
Controls and settings aren't nearly as granular as some of the better looking and feeling noise apps, but that's the nature of casting.
Screen casting seems to be the only way to go with Noisli and Sleepo and such.
I sometimes use white noise variations. There's different "colors" for different frequencies. I personally like brown noise. I use it every night to shut my mind up and help me sleep. Knocks me right out.
This is the app I use for android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tmsoft.whitenoise.lite
comfortable earphones coupled with a white noise app.
I always use this app if i'm around people who snore. There's a bunch on the play store, just pick a sound that you like, pick the volume level you like, and sleep like a baby.
like the other guys, I don't have an answer to the youtube problem, but i use white noise app, there is a free and paid version, but you can set how long you want it to run, and they have an online market of 1000's of free noises.

For me, being at work is much, much more stressful than going to / from, but some of these options might help, anyway:
With the sit-and-wait crap-- personally, I don't think I could do the audio book / podcast thing, although I have friends who swear by it, so you might look into that.
Ambient sounds & white noise generators. I've been using White Noise both for sleep and at work for a year and change now, and I find it helps a lot. It gives me something external to focus on.
I remind myself (sometimes many times in an hour) that I am not responsible for how I feel, but I'm 100% responsible for what I do with those feelings. Being angry is okay, but feeding that anger is not. It helps me remember that now-- unlike when I was with my Ns-- I'm in control of myself and my life. (I think that's a big cause for a lot of our frustration in some situations; that lack of control reminds us of being powerless.)
I have a friend who swears the key to not getting road rage over bad drivers is to play video games where you can get into car wrecks and wipe out your enemies. I don't do those kinds of games, but after an especially high-impact day at work, I admit to using the Fallout games as an outlet.
Stop caffeinating 4-5 hours before you get into the car. (I've got another friend who swears by that, but to be fair, he was knocking back a pot of coffee in the 2-3 hours before he'd get on to public transit!)
You're very welcome. We're all here to help each other out-- and if I can be of further help, please let me know.
One thing I did think of-- I use this white noise app to help me get to sleep; and at work, I play a variety of what I guess you could call calming videos on my phone (I work solo night shift)-- everything from oceans to meadows to bison at Yellowstone (I swear I am not making that up ). If you find the outside world kind of overwhelming at times, as I do, that kind of thing can really help.
I use 'White Noise Lite'. It's free for android and iPhone and has loads of sounds to pick from. It says it contains ads, but I've never noticed them. I like that it has an alarm built into the app and a timer so you could set the sounds for a set time and then they turn off.
I use White Noise Lite, but beware, it is ad supported. This doesn't cause me any problems but YMMV

Try white noise machine (app on your smartphone), I used it for tinnitus but now I am using it to get a better sleep. It should help.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tmsoft.whitenoise.lite
Free version is sufficient but buy it if you feel like it.
Also I used medication with good results. It might work for you too. DM me for the name of the medication.
Also adjusting your diet helps greatly. No fat, refined sugar and too much caffeine. Don't just quit caffeine but reduce consumption. Try to consume pineapple, banana and some fruits and foods. They reduce tinnitus.
These worked for me, I hope they work for you too.
Mate, I have the same problem where I live in U.P. (FML). I have started using a white noise generator app. I usually have a deep sleep so it works for me (mostly).
Also, btw, if you want to test out if white noise can help you without the commitment of buying a machine, I used to use the White Noise Lite app. It has tons of sounds and is very customizable.
Here is a link to the app on the Google Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tmsoft.whitenoise.lite
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tmsoft.whitenoise.lite
I have the $ version of that I've been using for 6 or more years, it has lots of different sounds.
If I remember right the free version does everything the $ one does except it wont run background if you open another app, the noise stops. Pretty sure I do remember the free one working if you turn the screen off so long as it is the app displaying when you click it off.
Yes I was afraid of that. That is absolutely zero respect right there. It's one thing to try to keep quiet or not realise you are loud but that's just disrespectful.
Yea white noise has really helped me because we have a cat that likes to run around and howl really loud at night and the white noise machine drowns it out.
The app is called white noise on iOS it can be set to stop the white noise and ring an alarm at a set time too.
I'm not sure about Android but with a little research you could find an equivalent.
White Noise Lite's Brown Noise + Ear Plugs any time I camp with friends and their kids are getting up at dawn. Lifesaver for sure.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tmsoft.whitenoise.lite&hl=en_CA
use this app in instead of a fan to avoid catching a cold https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tmsoft.whitenoise.lite
i used in in airconditioner mode when my neighbours had a month long wedding celebration. God that awful singing at 2am
Same here. I thankfully don't have tinnitus but I live in a noisy apartment complex so I need something to drown out the clatter. The only trade off is now I've gotten so used to sleeping with a fan that trying to sleep somewhere new without one is challenging. I use the White Noise Lite app on my phone for those situations now.
That's a start, though. :) You might check out some white noise apps, for instance-- I use this one and it's pretty awesome. And then, maybe a low-stress game, or a coloring book app-- just something to help you stay focused and relaxed.
Also keep in mind that at least 25% of everyone on your flight is probably not happy to be there-- lots of people hate flying!-- and if you look anxious or worried, they're not going to be judging you, they're going to be thinking "I know how they feel!"
EDIT: I haven't been on a plane in literally 20 years, but if you're allowed internet access, you could always hang out here. :)
Um. Just search the appstore for White Noise. It's on iOS and Android and has a ton of different calming sounds to listen to while you sleep.
I sometimes use a white noise generator app like this one. It works better with a decent bluetooth speaker but you may find it works for you with just your phone. Current favourite sound is the Starship Drone
I've used melatonin too but find it leaves me a bit sluggish the next day.
I like White Noise. It has those sounds, as well as a "mix" feature where you could roll up them all up at once if that's what you were looking for.
I used to be like that however I have been using a whitenoise app for tuning out all distractions in coffee shop. Works like a charm, check it out when you get a chance.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tmsoft.whitenoise.lite&hl=en
They have a desktop version too
I use TMSOFT's White Noise app (there is evidently also an iOS version but I haven't tried it.) They've got a ton of loops to choose from. My go-to is Ambient Bell Meditation.
White noise, or "Songs for Sleeping" playlists on Spotify.
When that doesn't work, I browse reddit for as long as possible (try the wholesome network of subreddits if sadness is keeping you awake).
Do you use a blue-light filter (e.g. Twilight, if you're on Android, or f.lux on your computer) on your devices?
I hope you find a solution soon! Want to talk about what's making you cry?
Great - come to think of it we really appreciated our white noise machine when our kids were tiny; they get woken up incredibly easily and having something make a reasonably loud soothing sound in the room really helped (especially when you've just got them to sleep and you're trying to leave the room!).
To be honest though, the best white noise machine I can think of these days is either this app for phones, or this website (which I just happen to have built myself): https://pixelcampfire.link/
White Noise (Lite) Google Play
White Noise Pro (Google Play) $2.99
Not affiliated with them. I just love their iOS app White Noose. Can combine with other sounds, download sounds off the “marketplace” made by the community.
You can make your own “sounds/mix”. Another great feature is you can control the in-app volume as opposed to your whole phone. This way you can mix it with ambient music (as I do) or whatever else you like.
There are many, but perhaps Noice or White Noise Lite.
I use a white noise app since it has a timer, so I can schedule breaks.
White noise! Free app here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tmsoft.whitenoise.lite
Works for me: I have been working rotating shifts with crappy sleep potential for 40 years in USN and NASA. This is the best routine I found.
https://www.reddit.com/r/BedBros/comments/gl852l/how_we_slept_200_years_ago_segmented_and_second/
Plus, I tape shut every night. This is ALL peer reviewed and published. Consider this in the future. I will say that our 13 year old son DOES place a gentle piece of tape on his mouth to breathe asleep from his nose. Do not take this as advice. It is a very good read.
https://robertkipa.com/mouth-taping-bedtime-routine/
Nose breathe = Rest and digest. Read THIS
Mouth breathe = Fight or flight (adrenaline sleep)
White noise: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tmsoft.whitenoise.lite&hl=en_US
Taping your mouth causes you to breathe through your nose (rest and digest mode) versus breathe through your mouth (sleeping in an "adrenaline drip" fight or flight mode) This link has great peer reviewed and published info about taping your mouth shut. Great read. https://robertkipa.com/mouth-taping-bedtime-routine/
I also use a great white noise app on an old unused android phone.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tmsoft.whitenoise.lite&hl=en_US
Don't forget humidity, but nose breathing moistens your inhale.
Work on the sleep schedule. I know it's not easy when your brain is all over the place, but this is the most helpful thing you can possibly take control over.

Try to just focus on getting into bed at the same time 7 nights a week. Try taking a warm bath right before bed, there are some cool studies that show our bodies drop off to sleep faster if we warm up in a bath right before bed. Avoid blue screens minimum 2 hours before bed. If your phone is your alarm clock, plug it in across the room so you can't reach for it in bed. Have a very dim bedside light and invest in a big book of word puzzles, a journal or a little sketchbook. Whenever sleep is not happening easily, turn on the very dim light and bust out your chosen booky thing. Don't try reading a regular book, though; it'll keep your brain too active and awake. You don't want your brain to associate bed with active or awake except during sexy times.

If white noise helps, there a great app called White Noise Free which has tons of customizable sounds (I think brown noise is the best) and can smooth out jarring city noises you hear in the background. Timed release melatonin is amazing. Everyone takes different amounts, but I think less is more. I like this brand.

Forgive yourself for not sleeping easily; getting angry is the least helpful feeling to facilitate sleep. What you are going to do for your brain is program in some Pavlovian triggers of consistency so that, every time you start repeating the "usual bedtime routine", your brain will start going: "Oh, it's time to wind down and sleep."

I'm not going to pretend it was easy for me to get to this point, but conquering sleep slowly and surely has been the greatest and best thing I've ever done to balance out my BP2.
White Noise Lite has a Brown Noise that is MY JAM

Use this app, you'll get good dreams https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tmsoft.whitenoise.lite
What really helped me focus way back in my college days was Gregorian Chants. These days I like the white noise apps: White Noise free; full; Relax Melodies free; premium. There are also websites with ambient noise, like Rainy Mood, Rainy Cafe, and my current favorite Ambient Mixer. Right now, my go-to for writing is "Storm on the Hogwarts Express".
I make sure there's always tv or music playing in the background. And white noise whenever that isn't possible -- I use a sound conditioner every night when I sleep, and a white noise app on my phone when I'm away from home. Nothing can make the ringing go away, but masking it can do wonders for your mental health.
In my case, getting a good hearing aid was really important. Amplifying everyday life sounds made me less focused on the ringing. Plus it has a white noise function that you can use standalone, or as an addition to the amplification.
