Best advice I have heard is that hunger is like a wave.
By that I mean that most people believe hunger is like an avalanche, an unstoppable force that will increase until the person can no longer stand against the overwhelming magnitude that is an avalanche.
But rather hunger is more like a wave in the ocean, frequent and constant, but nothing compared to an avalanche. If you can stay strong for the 30m-1h that the hunger wave hits you, you can withstand anything.
"I can think. I can wait. I can fast."
Funny, I just watched this documentary that features both Dr. Longo and Dr. Dorff. It's on Amazon prime if anyone wants to watch it for free. They come on in the last 15-20 minutes of the documentary. The beginning can feel a little budget at times.

Dr. John Hagan had it right, and his pilot study was almost six years ago. Don't expect this study to launch a revolution. Big business is totally against the concept of not eating and getting people down to a normal weight. To be honest, I wasn't religiously keeping track. I would try to drink at least 3-4 scoops of this powder a day - New Ultima Hydrating Electrolyte Powder, Orange, 90 Servings https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IIGUTEY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_kZ2dBbKMNR2QC And two scoops of sleep time magnesium each night. But I would supplement more if I was feeling lethargic or dizzy.
Thanks for using Fastient! And I totally agree, tracking everything helps so much.
This screenshot compilation looks great by the way.
Great job and keep it up!
Edit: oh and please leave a review if you haven't already! I can't overstate how much it helps!
Use a stainless steel tongue scraper! Total game changer. I've been using this exact one for 3 years daily:
I mean, fat is an organ. For a good recent book on the topic I recommend Sylvia Tara's book, The Secret Life of Fat.

It's targeted towards alcoholics, but I have found it amazing to instantaneously flip my mind around food. Saying 'no' becomes easy when you have these strategies in mind. (Sounds weird, but it's very true.)

Live long and prosper! You do you!!
From Dr. Fung's book:
"Weight loss averaged 0.76 pounds per day in Dr. Gilliland’s study, adjusting for the expected water-weight regain once the fast was completed."
Lowered metabolism is a myth for fasting (because you are eating a 100% fat diet - your own fat!) but is a real problem on a low-fat, low-calorie diet. It sets you up to regain all of the weight back and then some. Evidence of that is here: https://www.nytimes.com/2016/05/02/health/biggest-loser-weight-loss.html

Hey there - Good news! Fasting and Keto are like magic for T2 diabetes.
I'm 53 and you can absolutely regain control over your blood sugar. I got my A1C down from 13.5 to 4.9 in 9 months. I'm off all medications and delicious food is my diabetes medicine for life! I also lost 40 lbs which was a huge help. With zero exercise. I can eat 100 calories in 30 seconds, but it takes an hour to exercise it off- I can't outrun my fork.
This is where fasting/keto really help. Use Keto to switch your body from sugar-burning to fat-burning and you won't even feel hungry most of the time. I swear! Get that battery around your belly working and it's always feeding you.
Here is the simple rule - If you don't want sugar in your blood, don't put it in you mouth. It's really thay easy.
I don't eat bread, pasta or potatoes. ZERO added sugar in anything. I eat all the meat and veggies I want. It's literally that easy. Toes are more important than french-fries - trust me!
You should check out /r/keto for lots of amazing recipes and advice.
PM me or reply here if you want any advice or support, I;d be glad to share my experience.
You should for sure check out Dr. Jason Fun's The Diabetes Code he has reversed T2 diabetes in hundreds of his patients.
Best of luck to you!
she said she tried working out but couldnt stick with it, and i suggested a trainer to help stay focused on it. yes it takes alot of hard work to look the way you want. not eating seems like a dangerous plan.
https://www.webmd.com/diet/features/diet-myth-truth-fasting-effective-weight-loss#1
here is an article on the reasons why fasting for weight loss poses more dangers than positive benefits. not only do you limit your bodys energy and muscle, the water weight will come back when you start eating again. she even said she is back up to 55kg once she stopped, which is exactly what the article says will happen.
https://www.rush.edu/health-wellness/quick-guides/what-is-a-healthy-weight
here is a BMI calculator.
for her, 5'5, it says 140 is normal and 110 is underweight. UNDERWEIGHT. oh lemme guess. health organizations and doctors dont have the right to judge your weight right?
i really dont give 2 fucks about your opinion you seem like an uppity and crazy person to talk like this to me. this seems like a sub that encourages bulimia and anorexia type of disorders and dont question how much fasting is too much. it seems like this sub is the one putting body image pressure on people. people like you are the problem. you encourage it. you question me for wondering if shes ok and asking her why she feels like she has to do this. you just post to white knight and feel like a hero with no concern for the actual OP. your a fake. she is obviously posting for judgement acceptance and reactions. losing weight like this and just getting encouraged to do it more can be mentally debilitating for someone. especially when they didnt need to lose the weight to begin with.
grow up. take youll bullshit parade elsewhere.
Fat that you EAT contains 9kcal per gram - it doesn't work like this with weight loss. You need to burn 3500 calories in order to lose 1 lb of FAT. https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/weight-loss/in-depth/calories/art-20048065
Do you think that OP is burning 7,338 calories a day? Is OP a lumberjack? Highly unlikely - your math is off. OP is losing fat, glycogen in OP's muscles, retained water, stuff filling up the digestive system, etc.

I'm not sure, but one of the risk factors is losing weight very quickly. OP didn't specify any health concerns but mabye /u/andrei is just being extra cautious.
> My original goal was 140lbs, but I'm just so eager to get strength training
Keep in mind that you may gain weight with strength training. BUT!! It is a good kind of weight gain: muscles! Check out comparisons of body composition vs body weight. At this point, train your brain to think in terms of fat loss rather than weight loss. I'd even recommend getting rid of your scale. How you look and feel is more important than that number on the scale.
Ulcers are not always caused by bacteria. Certain medications, especially when combined with smoking or alcohol, are also common causes.
There are SO many holes in what you have posted here, that it would take me a good hour or two, to walk you through all of them. So instead of tackling EVERYTHING, I will a few random ones (low hanging fruit, so to speak).
Some Basic Problems
That article on paleoleap.com you refer to is, well, nothing more than a random internet page put up by some or other random internet peep. The site comes no where close to meeting a minimum level as far as reputability goes.
You then, and I quote, "[...] Googled it and it's legit!!!". Well I googled flat-earth and found this almost 5* rated book on Amazon, so the earth must be flat! It's legit!
Major Logical Leap / Failure
You cannot include research discussing dioxin poisoning, and risks from rapid weight-loss, in the same post. This is just idiotic, and fear mongering. The research is clearly aimed at severe concentrations of POPs.
You make the claim that the research by Ingram and Mussolino concerning rapid weight loss & increases in all cause mortality, supports the view that POPs is the cause? But this is YOUR conclusion, and not that of Ingram etc. In fact, none of their conclusions comes close to supporting your claim.
Focus on POPs
So you have chosen to focus on POPs as the latest "scary" health issue. A few questions:
What is the average concentration level of POPs in the average person?
What is a dangerous concentration of POPs?
How far off is the average person from this dangerous level?
What is the average increase in absolute (not relative) risk, from the average obese person losing weight, and increasing their "POPS". I mean if it increases from 0.001% to 0.002% it technically doubled, but barely registers as a risk.
I could go on and on and on . . .
Find me these strawmen persons, then we'll talk. 😂
(If you want an actual answer: one is athletic with a high rate of muscle, low body fat - the other is high rate of body fat, low muscle. They're the same height, just ones calories are used to push around their fat. Persons with high fat and persons with high muscular structure both have a higher basal metabolic rate. They burn the same calories a day without factoring in for extraneous exercise, but one is used to support muscular tissue the other fat tissue.)
Any more brain busters?
Other answer that would work: obese guy is older.
In case you want a source baby gurl.
If you eat decent and normally take vitamins you wont need any for a couple day fast. Your internal stores can easily handle a short fast. Electrolytes can make it easier but that's all you might need. - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MXDAHIB/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Zero Fasting Tracker Fasting is pretty simple to track but saw some folks on this thread using it and thought I'd give it a try. It does actually help just a tad for accountability/motivation, surprisingly enough.

You're an inspiration, leading by example.
If I may make a few suggestions, I would say those pushups can get a great boost if you do as many as you can, wait an hour, as many as you can, and so on, until you can't do any more. You'll get a lot more pushups done in a day, and you'll build up strength the endurance faster.
For pull-ups, those are tough, but if you go to the gym, there is usually a pull-ups rack where you can get a little help. Set the negative weight so you'll only pull your goal weight, and it should be doable. As it is now, you're trying to do weighted pull-ups, which are only really suitable for athletes or people who have trained for years.
One more suggestion, the nofap thing is understandable, have you considered doing kegel exercises or Stamena for iOS.

If you go ADF like I’ve done (well more like 3 32h fasts a week on average) you’ll save so much money on food.
I’ve started a fun exercise, empty my kitchen completely! It’s actually harder than you think, I have a big can of chick peas, but to make hummus I’ve had to order a big ass mortar and pestle from Amazon, i also have to go to a freaky deaky hippie shop called LØS Market to buy sesame seeds, because they sell everything by weight and you can buy as much or as little as you need, and buy sesame seeds, then find a place where I can buy a single lemon, at this point it’s probably easier to wait until my homegrown chili plants are bearing 🌶 because it’s hard to find a store that sells a single chili, fortunately I have a few garlics left.
Edit: holy hell, I just went down a rabbit hole starting with handheld blenders and ending at modernist quinine and Pacojets! I think after a year of fasting, I’ll have saved up enough to get that maybe.
Oh and I completely forgot, fasting is expensive, because my two last real big purchases, a Sony A1 65” and a stupid ass Samsung Family Hub 2.0 “smart” dumb ass fridge have been done whilst fasting...
"The Power of Habit" has helped me out so much when it comes to willpower and some of my issues with mindless overheating.
One of the points that you made is that you start out doing well and then gradually descend into self sabotage.
Something similar gets mentioned in the book, that willpower is somewhat of a limited resource.
Most people had an easier time exercising willpower if the bulk of their day was fairly easy to navigate. If they were required to exercise willpower frequently, by the time the evening rolled around it would be just about tapped. And they were more likely to make impulsive, self-sabotaging choices.
jarrow, thorne, source naturals are all very good. NOW is decent. I try other brands on occasion based on amazon reviews and my own research of ingredients.
your vitamin c should be food-based, not ascorbic acid. good vitamin c isn't cheap, but it's worth it. ascorbic acid is nasty stuff.
and
Thanks. I buy pretty much everything off of Amazon, for the potassium and magnesium in capsule form I like Now Foods brand:
I broke the fast last night, just wasn't feeling right and decided it was better to end it than to push on. They say your body will tell you when you need to end it and I was having that feeling, but no regrets and I feel good about it.
I recommend watching The science of fasting for research Amazon Prime
For sodium, regular table salt works but it's theoretically possible to get too much iodine if you eat enough of it. I'm not sure how big of a concern that should really be though.
For potassium I use No Salt which is just straight potassium salt and can be found at Walmart. They also have things like Salt Lite which is about a 50/50 mix of sodium and potassium, but I don't think the sodium has iodine. You could always mix in a little table salt to get your iodine fix, if you went this route.
As for magnesium, magnesium glycinate seems to be the best. You want at least 200g. The one I use is https://www.amazon.com/Magnesium-Glycinate-Chelate-450-Supplement/dp/B076J7BC6Z
It is out of stock on Amazon but on their website they have it for $20. Take an hour or two before bedtime so you aren't tired in the day. I linked to Amazon in case you want a different but similar product.
Note how I didn't suggest potassium supplements. Due to outdated regulations, they can't sell more than 99mg supplements (even though a product might have a higher number on the label, this number is just total weight) which just doesn't cut it as far as your needs go.
if it's your first fast i highly recommend doing 3 days of low carb (atkins / keto) so your body is already burning fat before you start your water fast. ive done it both ways and the hunger pains are a lot less if you're already in a solid state of keto.
for supplements i did 2 tsp daily of pink himilain (spelling) salt throughout the day mixed with water. that equals about 4-5k of your sodium. for potasium and magnesium i did pills that i found on amazon.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00S1RUSWE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1
i did 2k of each. you can find them at gnc too but im lazy and like them delivered to my door.
Started at 312.2 on May 29, 2018. Today I’m at 277.4. Roughly 20lbs per month. My goal is 180.

I do take vitamins but not every day. I find sometimes when fasting I’ll vomit my daily vitamin. I do use salt and mio water flavor with electrolytes when I feel “off”. I have had to shorten my fast twice due to not feeling well... but I’ll eat for 2 days and jump right back in. I just completed a 6 day fast yesterday and only broke it because I’m going out of town. When I break my fasts I tend to need to be near a bathroom for several hours and I didn’t want that hassle while being out of town.
I just bought this from amazon (hope links are okay). Tried it for the first time today and it was tasty. I’ll use this for my future fasts.

Weight fluctuations are hard to get over mentally, but completely natural, especially if you deal with a cycle. Personally, I found Happy Scale (or Libra for Android) to be super helpful in smoothing out those fluctuations and keep me focused on the big picture and overall trend
I seem to work well with water (with HiLyte https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073KQZ4XL/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ), green tea and coffee. I try to stick to one cup of coffee and one cup of green tea per day. Water mostly.
I've had my Nalgene wide mouths for... 14 years? I replaced the lid on one but that's it.
Just recently got this S'well bottle - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076GNN6C7/ref=twister_B07GP3JS2C?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 - can't speak to its longevity yet, but it's quite nice.
I like Natural Calm for mag. You can also get mag from adding Epsom salt to a bath and soaking for a bit(great for sore muscles).
There is an interesting book written by a journalist that lived a really unhealthy lifestyle (alcoholic, traveled a lot, ate like crap and treated his body very badly)
(This is going somewhere near with me) he also had some pretty bad back problems. Ie: broken and fused etc.
He got into yoga of all things (also detoxed himself from the alcohol and unhealthy food- went vegetarian and then I think vegan?) and the yoga apparently (according to him) fixed his back. Interesting book!

Anyway, maybe worth a read?
I just want to check... is this your first long fast? I want to eliminate keto flu as a cause because when I gym heavily at the beginning of a fast, I also get dizzy while my body switches to fat burning sometimes.
Just to be clear, I'm not discounting the importance of water. This is about finding the right cause in this case. I haven't heard of vomiting being a symptom. (Reference symptoms on WebMD)
IF lack of water was NOT the cause, it might be that your body was under more stress than usual. It's not uncommon for athletes to throw up when they've worked too hard.
Well IMO it's more related to resting and not lack of food....I ve had this happen to me more than once even some times without fasting.
Orthostatic hypotension — also called postural hypotension — is a form of low blood pressure that happens when you stand up from sitting or lying down. ... Occasional (acute) orthostatic hypotension is usually caused by something obvious, such as dehydration or lengthy bed rest, and is easily treated.

I have a couple of important health related questions concerning potential drawbacks of long term fasting. Maybe they aren't issues but they popped into my head when I was hungry lol.
I heard the gall bladder can create gallstones/get damaged by consuming too much fat. Is this a problem fasters encounter? My sister had gallstones so I worry I am predisposed to them. Actually; according to this [https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/gallstones/symptoms-causes/syc-20354214] I have a a bunch of risk factors...would I be okay if I did this for only a few weeks?
Concerning epigenetics- in which people who have suffered a period of famine- end up having children who are predisposed to diabetes and obesity....is this an issue for us or not- because fasting is 'different'? If anyone can shed light- I would really appreciate it; whether it is good or bad news.
Appreciate your time, thank you!!
" Premature ventricular contractions (PVCs) occur in most people at some point. Causes may include certain medications, alcohol, some illegal drugs, caffeine, tobacco, exercise, or anxiety. PVCs often cause no symptoms. When symptoms do occur, they feel like a flip-flop or skipped-beat sensation in the chest. Most people with isolated PVCs and an otherwise normal heart don't need treatment. PVCs occurring continuously for longer than 30 seconds is a potentially serious cardiac condition known as ventricular tachycardia."
I used Nutriana Electrolyte Powder. 2 scoops for every gallon of spring water. My mom did the fast with me (she’s continuing to 30 days) and she recommended this one.

Hey, I am in London so this is the UK site but this product on Amazon from Nutri-Align is 100% my most recommended product. It consists of enough supplements for Sodium, Magnesium and Potassium daily through four scoops and I spread them throughout the day. No more than one scoop at a time is recommended to avoid digestive issues and would see me through any minor issues. With all four daily recommended scoops I am reaching what I need to whilst fasting and (especially once at a point where hunger disappears in a fast) I have absolutely no issues whatsoever. It works great. I do want to state this again: four scoops covered everything. Most capsules or other brands on the market you would need 12 capsules or so daily to reach these limits and that is why I value this product so highly. But not the capsules from same company which has the exact same issue. For some odd reason.
I take this brand hydrolyte. Up to three scoops a day, one in the morning washing it down with a couple pictures of pink salt on my tongue, then I'll do another one midday with more salt as needed, but I usually don't need to I'll do the two scoops in the evening with calm magnesium and a couple more pinches of salt on my tongue as needed. I only take salt when I either get cramps in my toes or when I feel light-headed or hungry. You can barely taste this electrolyte mix and it's the cleanest, most flavorless I have found. Not salty at all.
The author is Jane M. Vanderkooi, PhD. The book is "Your Inner Engine: An Introductory Course on Human Metabolism". It's available on Amazon in paperback. It's also available on kindle for $2.99. Quite a bargain, tbh.

From a Google Play store review response, "You are correct, the ketosis indicator in the app shows when the body begins to enter ketosis during a typical fast, for those are aren't already in ketosis. If you are doing keto, where your body is constantly in ketosis it will not be as accurate. We are planning to add ketone tracking in the near future, so stay tuned for updates!"
Personally I say go for it, but do not be disappointed if you don't end up with a lot of mental clarity. That is not something most people actually get. The most I've got out of my fasts have been a lifting in spirits, feeling just a tad better, happier, but that's it.
There's no harm in aiming for self improvement, but there is no instant cure all or fix. If this is the jumping point for you perfect, but if not don't beat yourself up.
Have you read The Power of Habit? I would highly recommend it.
I'm using my current fast to help with my drinking. I'm not an alcoholic though, just a drunk - it was just another vice along with food that I found myself run towards consistently. If I had a bad day, or even a kinda rough day, I would find myself parked on the sofa with a bottle of wine with a plate of chocolate, cheese, and crackers.. I was tired of waking up hungover and fat.
For me I know once I break a week of not drinking, the urge diminishes greatly. A month of no drinking and I'm 100% broke of the urges and habits. I imagine for someone who is an actual alcoholic, it might be harder, but I HIGHLY recommend the book "The Power of Habit" as it's an eye opening book on the science of habits, and how to rewrite your brain into getting rid of bad habits and embracing good ones.
Well about time you actually cite a source instead of just calling names.
But I provided an article from a doctor who specializes on nutrition and you counter with a chiropractor?
Kathleen M. Zelman, MPH, RD, LD
> Zelman received one of the highest honors from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the 2016 Lenna Frances Cooper Memorial Award, in recognition of a distinguished career and remarkable contributions to the dietetics profession.

She studied Neuroscience and Psychology and received her Bachelor of Science from University of Toronto. She then went on to complete her Doctorate of Chiropractic at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College
I'm sure your chiropractor means well, but seriously? If I'm looking for medical advice on weight loss, I'd expect the person who has dedicated her life to studying and practicing nutrition to provide better advice.
Can't you do better than that?
You really want to pick a fight?
Diet Myth or Truth: Fasting Is Effective for Weight Loss
> The bottom line: Nutrition experts agree that fasting is a potentially dangerous, and not particularly effective, way to lose weight.
Okay, your turn. You got any medical backing for claiming that extended fasts are a good way to loose (btw, thanks) weight and maintain health?

I don't have the answer to any of your questions, but if you're concerned maybe you could try eating more... Efficiently.
If you melt 100ml grams of dark chocolate in 200ml of cream you could drink it or set it in the freeze and pretend it's ice cream. It would total just under 20g of carbs and come to 1200 calories. Less physical space in your stomach than the chicken soup you had and you've made your 1200 cal goal!
Eggs Benedict is dead easy to make if you skip the hollandaise sauce prep and buy prepacked and skip the muffin, keto for lyfe yo. 100g of smoked salmon, 2 eggs and if you overdo the hollandaise sauce because it's delicious you could get to ~500 calories pretty easily and once again, take up less physical room than the soup you ate.
Oh wow, google is telling me there's 270 calories in 50g of bacon! :O - That & 2 eggs scrambled with 25ml cream & 25ml of butter is 270/199/87/179 calories respectively. Bam, 735 calories!
What's your water intake like? Coincidentally, I've been doing keto intermittent fasting of sorts for the last few weeks, skipping breakfast and lunch. I don't have much of a problem eating a regular sized dinner but I drink a lot of water. It has been over 40 degrees for the last 4 days tho and I don't have Aircon, which makes drinking lots of water easier :p
Have you heard of 'fat bombs'? It's a term I see kicking around the keto subreddits all the time. They're small servings of deliciousness and as the name implies, packed full of fat. If you just google 'fat bombs' you'll find an endless source of fat bomb recipes :)
>Apart from electrolytes, I have been supplementing with a multivitamin, B12, iron (once a week) & calcium tablets.
Please ensure that your supplementation regime is on-point. It's easy to get too much or too little of certain nutrients unless you have plugged everything into a tracker like Cronometer. My primary concern without knowing more details is your electrolyte status. You want to be getting at least 3000 mg potassium and 1500 mg sodium in your day, which is generally very hard to do on a water fast unless you are purposely ingesting something like Lite Salt. You could also be getting too much or little of the iron and calcium, and you are likely not getting enough vitamin D (~1000-4000 IU per day, depending on your situation).
Research work done by Valter Longo and Mark Mattson. Here's a paper they wrote together summarizing a lot of other work. https://www.researchgate.net/publication/259806570_Fasting_Molecular_Mechanisms_and_Clinical_Applications

If that link doesn't work for some reason, search for extended fasting salts by Nutri-Align.
Diet drinks are Coke Zero and the like. Nothing special. Coffee includes stevia for sweetness but nothing else.
Hope this helps. 🙂
Good luck on your fasting.
I'm pretty sure GNC or Walmart has some.
I mix my own but I'm sick of doing that and I'm also interested in just getting pre mixed ones too.
Let me know if you find some.

This stuff from Amazon looks promising.
It's refectocil, sorry!!! I put black on my lashes and I mix the dark and light brown for my brows because I think the dark brown is too dark and the light brown is too red. We have similar hair color so I think that would also work for you.
Personally, I use this brand.
https://www.amazon.com/Fasting-Salts-Intermittent-Flavourings-Sweeteners/dp/B07Z55FLJC
It fits the required amount of magnesium, sodium and potassium in few spoons. The package includes a small spoon to determine how much you should take depending of the extent of your fast. It should not exceed 4 spoons a day.
It's basically a concentration of salts but I do feel it's less aggressive than snake juice, which made me feel nauseated.
It's also affordable, zero addictive, nothing but 100% electrolytes salts and made in Britain.
I highly recommand!!!
You should read this book:
The Complete Guide to Fasting (Heal Your Body Through Intermittent, Alternate-Day, and Extended Fasting) https://www.amazon.com/dp/1628600012/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_u5IcGb59PSDE3
It’ll do a better job explaining it than anything anyone here says
I would recommend drinking water, and using something like 40,000 Volts Electrolyte Solutions, to keep electrolytes in balance. You can put a few of those salty drops on your tongue to taste through he day, and chase it down with water. It should help you, and also stop cramps due to imbalance of electrolytes.

thanks for cheering words mates, fellow support is a huge motivation, ive been alone on this journey and even had to deal with my family resistance, but now im a part of a big community and it is really inspiring.
The screen is from LIFE Fasting Tracker. Nice app, free, no intrusive adds, i like the fasting stages display -- keto, autophagy etc. but the app doesnt work without internet and lags pretty heavily if connection is unstable.
Unfortunately? I wish I was into guys. My life would be a lot simpler.
OK. So you're going for the buff look? Or the toned muscular look? I strongly advise you to read the book Living with a SEAL by Jesse Itzler. Basically this serial entrepreneur hired a navy SEAL to live with him for 30 days and train him. It's a really funny, easy read and it upgraded my perspective on fitness so much, because the SEAL is mostly getting him to do simple bodyweight workouts. The combination of the SEAL mindset of "can-do" mixed with the simplicity of just doing sets of squats or pushups, which you can do anywhere, really changed my life. Even on days when I feel lazy, I still do 100 pushups, and combined with intermittent fasting, I'm getting seriously cut up really fast. It's like 8 bucks on Amazon.
The cool thing is, you can apply that SEAL regimen to anything. Just getting your numbers up. For my writing practice, I used to agonize over chapters, characters, now I just sit down, STFU and get 3,000 words. Regardless of the quality, my confidence going from task to task with this mentality expands every day, and, again, that's what's truly attractive to people - becoming a person who just goes for it, a person who engages. I wanna give Itzler a medal for this book.
I purchased Himalayan pink salt on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IZL255O/ but you can probably find it in a smaller quantity or a lower price in a grocery store. I went with the 2 lb. bag because I knew I'd be fasting regularly and occasionally for prolonged periods. As for the potassium, I bought NoSalt at my local Publix, but if you can't find it at a grocery store (where it will be cheaper), you can buy it on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000H185N6/ (If you plan to buy it online, try to find a better price, though. 11 bucks is kinda crazy.)
I put 1 tsp of pink salt and a little less than 2 tsp of NoSalt in a liter of water and sip it throughout the day. If you drink it too fast, you may get the runs. I may drink more water afterward if I'm still thirsty, but I try not to drink more fresh water than salt water because I'm not very active and I don't want to risk flushing the electrolytes out of my system. Good luck!
Google Morton "Lite Salt" for potassium supplementation. Cheap at Walmart.
I supplement magnesium glycinate found at Amazon.
KAL Magnesium Glycinate 400 | Vegan, Chelated, Non-GMO, Soy, Dairy, and Gluten Free | 90 Servings https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00013YZ1Q/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_g7ovBb83KCC2K
Most people recommend Himalayan pink salt, however if you're in a pinch just get whatever salt you can find. All salt has sodium which is what you really need.

The Himalayan pink salt (not to be confused with pink curing salt, don't get that) has more trace minerals, but there is some argument as to whether or not there is enough trace minerals in the salt to make a difference.

You can also buy it off Amazon - here
Hi! :) I got it from Amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LSXELM6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It’s an electrolyte blend that you can make yourself or order off Amazon. I went the Amazon route for easy to-go packets.
https://www.amazon.com/SNAKE-Juice-Electrolyte-Unflavored-Fasting-Focused/dp/B07F5YZNYV
Check out the Snake Diet by Cole Robinson. It’s basically just water fasting.
No-Salt contains, Ingredients: Potassium Chloride, Potassium Bitartrate, Adipic Acid, Silicon Dioxide, Mineral Oil and Fumaric Acid. < feel free to click this link for photos of the label of the product for sale at Walmart,
On the other hand, this product on Amazon, is Pure Potassium Chloride, < feel free to click this link
I have no affiliate links, and only picked these two products as examples,
You're in the beginning when it HARD. Make sure you take electrolytes. They REALLY help. I'm on Day 13/14 using Hi-Lyte and feel pretty good. If you've never done an extended fast the first couple are BRUTAL. You might want to consider 2 weeks then waiting a couple months then trying a 21 or 30 if you've never fasted that long. Either way Good Luck!!

I haven’t been able to find vitamin c pills just gummies so I’m wondering if these will do if I drink them during a fast.
I got frustrated with all the apps with poor design that used far too many permissions just to track my fast. I'm a little biased here since I created it but if you're on Android, I'd love for you to check out Night Fast and let me know your thoughts! It lets you track your fast start times, target times, actual times, fasting streaks, view your history, add in past fasts, etc. and doesn't ask for any unnecessary permissions!
Motivation in the first day can be hard. I've been there! Going good, then around dinner time I cave and eat and tell myself "oh well.. I'll start tomorrow"
How many things do people put off with the notion of starting tomorrow?
What you need to work towards isn't just fasting, you are really working towards changing your entire habit of eating. And that isn't easy, habits that took years, decades even, don't just change in a month or two.
When you cave and eat, don't think of as ruining the fast. You paused your fast. Jump right back into it. Flip the negative feelings of failing into motivation to do better next stretch. You fast 16 hours and ate? After that meal try to see if you can go longer. Get yourself in a positive excited mind set about this try to beat your own record for the day before.
Also I really recommend keeping a journal and writing in it. Write how you're feeling when you want to eat, what may be triggering it, and the foods your craving. You might see a pattern of outside stresses or problems that are leading to breaking the fast, which hopefully you can work on avoiding or dealing with that doesn't involve eating.
There's a ton of books out there that can help, but I really recommend two - The Power of Habit (eating is very much a habit in our lives, breaking the cycle can help) and The Beck Diet Solution to help train your mind and rewrite how you think and view food.
Currently doing a 3-day fast, about 36 hours in.
* Type: water fast (and coffee and green tea)
* Start: Saturday 8PM; end: Tuesday evening
* Length of fast: 3 days-ish
* Longest I've ever fasted is about 36 hours, so we'll see how today plays out. As usual, I've noticed I get hungry around the times I eat food or if exposed to a food related stimulus.
* Reasoning for the longer fast stems from Tim Ferris's recommendations on Tools of Titans.
You bring up a lot of good points about the chemistry and metabolism of cholesterol. I'm genuinely excited to see where the research goes in the next decade or so, but for the time being they haven't collected enough evidence to change the standard of care.
Speaking of which, according to the Mayo Clinic, there is no significant evidence to suggest that statins cause either ALS or Lou Gherigs disease (source ). If a patient on any drug experiences an illness while taking the drug, the manufacturer is required to report it. With statins being one of the most often prescribed medications in America, if they were causing ALS/Lou Gherigs we would be seeing massively high numbers of diagnoses for these illnesses. But we aren't.
I did read a recent study that calls in to question the connections between high LDL and CVD vs all-cause morality. The general consensus from the scientific community is that the results are inconclusive as the study had several limitations and confounding factors (source ).
You also make a very good point in closing- lots of patients are ignorant about their health (or flat out lie about their habits), unfortunately making it difficult to extract reliable data on a large scale and slowing down the research in general.
I hope you take our warnings seriously, there's a list of things this could be, and pretty much all of them require a doctor's visit.
Please tell them you were fasting so that they can diagnose you properly!

I think what was meant was what type of artificial sweetener - things like saccharin etc (i really don't know much about this) - here's a link
Why guess? It is not hard to figure it out. Here is how.
First, go make accounts at the two websites below. They are free.
https://www.fourmilab.ch/hackdiet/
Log your weight every day into the tracker at the first link. Same time every day, just be consistent about how you do it. After a few days of data the tracker will start to tell you whether you are at a calorie deficit or not.
While you are doing this enter all of your food and drink intake into Cronometer.
You will be able to precisely see what is going on if you do this.
Most of your daily variation is water. Humans are basically water pumps.
Also, you should consider adding in about 20 grams a day of vegetable glycerine (80 kcal) to protect your muscle mass while you are in the calorie deficit. You can add it to tea or coffee.
Essentially, I'm convinced with the benefits of short-term (up to 3 days) fasting - there was a lot of research done and overall results are positive.
However, I didn't find much on long-term fasting - i.e. 10 days or longer. There is a lot of anecdotal evidence though, with people reporting all kinds of diseases healed and in general clear state of mind, lack of hunger and a lot of energy.
One of most entertaining pieces I read was "Starving your way to vigor" (which can be found at https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/notablenotes/0Fb-owCiTYk). The authour describes his own experience, and also the story of the doctory Henry S. Tanner from the 19th century, who stumbled on fasting when he decided to starve himself to death because his wife left him. Instead, he cured himself of his illnesses and went on to promote fasting.
Anyway, I just want to eventually experience myself what is it all about. "Trouble" is, I luckily have no ilnesses I may expect to be cured from, but I'll settle with a clear mental state and lack of hunger if it happens. :)
Yes, ideal approach is just water, but I drink coffee from time to time. But no calories. I've only fasted up to 4 full days so far, but I expect to extend this by about a day every 3 months.
I'd highly recommend going to see a primary care physician. If that isn't an option, I'd see a nutritionist. If that isn't an option, I guess you can start here.
https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/prediabetes/symptoms-causes/syc-20355278
Not to sound grim but you should definitely be worried. It'll require a lifestyle change, your diet will need to be altered but you can actually come back from it. Now you have some real motivation, use it to fuel the fire and get healthy!
The more you drink it, the more you might get used to it.
I hear that machine-brewed coffee isn't bitter like instant coffee.
Maybe there's a kind of coffee that you might like.
Or tea?
Or yerba mate? (It may be best to only drink this in moderation.)

In my opinion, you should not fast. Maybe if you check with a doctor first, but I would guess they'd say no. If you want to improve your health and feel better, look at getting more sleep, which has healing properties for the mind and body. Teenagers need 9 and a half hours. You should also find some exercise that you can do non-obsessively, perhaps strength training or yoga, and try to improve your nutrition-- https://cronometer.com/ is a great resource. Also, have you tried not eating dairy? More than 60% of people are not great at digesting lactose, and I was constantly ill before quitting it.
Most vitamin and mineral pills contain no calories. It's generally only children's vitamin pills that contain calories. You can look up the nutritional content of a large variety of vitamin and mineral supplements here: http://www.fitbit.com/foods/categories/Vitamin+and+Mineral+Supplements/Multi-Vitamins+and+Minerals/84
A pound of fat is 3500 calories. If your resting metabolic rate is 1,750 you'll burn a half pound per day, assuming no exercise.
Here's a calculator that will give you a rough estimate.
https://www.omnicalculator.com/health/rmr
Things like body composition and genetics can make this average guess off by a bit, but it won't be significantly wrong.
Having a half-hour weight lifting session and maybe 10 minutes of cardio can boost me up to 3000 calories burned in a day. If I do HIIT I can get to 3500 so I'm burning a pound every day.
For sure, here's a great one written by two of the leading researchers (Valter Longo and Mark Mattson) on fasting summarizing the work that's out there.
In addition to what the other person says it takes 24-72 hours to get into ketosis so yes after you get into ketosis you will be shredding more body fat as your body moves off of carbs. You can stay in ketosis by eating less than 20 carbs at your next refeed. Much easier to glide between fasts with less transition/discomfort and more satiety.
