That's what OP's referring to, "Forced" Subtitles are ones that cover foreign audio in films that otherwise don't need subtitling.

There was a Plugin that could try to find subs for you, but I believe it doesn't work since Plugins were retired. My method has just been to go to Subscene with each batch of movies I add, and search each one with the "English, Foreign Only" filters enabled.

I have used Filebot on my server for a very long time with the amc (automated media center) function via command line.

The developer does seem to be somewhat touchy in the forums and doesn't give thorough explanations or is somewhat rude, but honestly for free software that works as ell as Filebot does, and being able to find answers to my questions eventually, I'm okay with it.

EDIT: I just noticed all the download links point to Patreon. :( Since he originally created the software to be open and free, I would say he should have left it open and free. If he wanted to make money from it, then asking for donations is not out of the question, but requiring them is out of the question. That said, he could also just stop releasing updates for Filebot and create a new version or new application with improved features, something like a Freemium model.

For recent movies, they will be similar most of the time. For older movies, you may find several subtitles (sometimes because of fan-subbing).

However, 99% of the time, you won't have subtitles that exactly match what's said, because subtitles need to follow rules that spoken dialogues don't: they need to be short, concise, easy to read, while avoiding ambiguity.

As for the poor quality/not in English, I would have a renaming program like Filebot that can add the included language to the filename, like in this TV Show Example: >Show.s01e03.Episode Name [720p x264] [en, ja].mkv

There's a bunch of extra stuff in there, but the important part is {audio.language}. With that in the expression, you can at least get the ones that are definitely in English, and you can work from there. Many more will be in English that just say null, because sometimes people don't put the language in the file's metadata, but at least it's a smaller pool to check. (It'll also tell you if it's in a different language, like my example above had both English and Japanese.)

That will also tell you with the {vf} and {vc} expressions what the quality and codec the files are using. Preferably, you want 720p or higher, and either x264 or x265 depending on your preferences. Everything that is lower than 480p, you'll definitely want to replace. Other codecs, up to you.

At Bytesized I use a script to run Filebot after each download. Filebot will extract content, and then symlink (shortcut) the files to the media folder properly named so Plex can find it.

I min erfaring er det desværre sjældent med engelske undertekster til danske børnefilm, især ældre film som Fuglekrigen I Kanøfleskoven.

Personligt tror jeg du vil have mest held med at finde nogle versioner på youtube hvis vi snakker ældre film som den.

Hvis der allerede findes subs til nogle af de film du søger, så er der en god chance for at de er på Subscene. Så er det bare at smide en dvd i pc'en og sætte subs på med Potplayer, VLC, eller hvad din foretrukne afspiller nu lige end er.

Det er muligt at subs ville skulle justeres lidt i forhold til timing, men i f.eks. Potplayer er det så nemt som at trykke på , eller . for at forskyde dem frem eller tilbage så de passer med når der bliver snakket.

Sidste forslag ville være at subbe dem selv, det kan gøres med flere forskellige programmer osv, men det er egentlig ikke så svært som det måske lyder, det tager dog noget tid.

På den anden side er mange af den type børnefilm heller ikke suuuuper fyldt med dialog så det ville nok gå hurtigere end en normal film eller serie.

Men det kommer selvfølgelig alt sammen an på hvor meget energi du vil bruge på at hun kan forstå det, jeg er typen der ville elske at sidde og nørde en weekend for at prøve at subbe noget men jeg kan også saaaagtens se hvordan andre ville finde det ekstremt kedeligt osv.

Sure. So in Filebot "Edit Format" options you can set your default server location and use the {plex} tag to rename the file in the correct plex format. For example \\"Server Name"/video/{plex} will automatically rename the file for movies or tvshows and send them to plex from my PC. Once I hit the rename button it will copy the file(s) straight to the server in the correct plex format using TVBD or MoviesDB after matching the file(s). I personally add a few more tags at the end so I can determine resolution and audio format when managing my files (I'm sure someone in the plex community would consider this a big no no but I have not had any issues doing this) For example this is the format I use for movies: \\"server name"\video\{plex} - ({vf}.{vc}) ({af}.{ac}) Which would produce like this: \\"server name"/video/Movies/Riddick (2013)/Riddick (2013) - (1080p.x265) (6ch.AAC)

I do have the subtitle files that are accurate to the spoken words of the dub. Here's a link to the entire series subs. There are subtitle files accurate to what is said in the sub and to what is said in the dub.

I have no idea how to apply them to a dub video though. What I would try and do is download dub episodes and put them into VLC, if that were possible. Use the subs I linked and put them to work there. Right now I am downloading S2EP12 and I will confirm if this works or not.

Thanks, I haven't seen any of his other films yet. For anybody who like me don't do French, there is an English translation of the manuscript and subtitles based and that translation.

I'm mobile so this isn't gonna be the best. But! Filebot can do it. On the rename side and put {plex} after the drive or folder you want and it should automatically do what it needs to do.

Holy shit, why have I never heard of Sonarr? All this time fighting with FileBot (really nice, but kind of tricky to get to work perfectly)! I'm probably not going to switch though, because FileBot also handles movies and downloads subtitles, and because my setup just works now, I don't have to touch anything. But if you don't need these, I'd give Sonarr a go.

Based on my setup, I recommend:

SickRage (fork of SickBeard for torrents). This is mainly just to auto download torrents and add to your torrent program, but is helpful to see what you're missing, etc.
A torrent client that supports running a program on torrent finish. Either an older version (cause they are better) of utorrent, or Deluge. Not sure if qbittorrent does it.
FileBot's AMC script. Requires some setup but once done things can be completely automated (I'm happy to help you with this). Alternatively, simply use FileBot manually when torrents finish like I assume you do now.

So you're talking about going forward, you want to no longer use a TV Shows directory as part of your Plex naming scheme. Duh, I should have realized that's what you wanted to do.

What current naming scheme are you using? Just {plex}? Have you tried { plex.tail }?

Subtitles are thrown on here pretty quickly following airing and torrent uploading. Especially this season. People are on the ball thankfully. Good subs too.
Also, HDTV and WEBRip subs seem to be in sync so far so you can use either ones. WEBRip subs seem to be translated a little better though for E03 and E04.

Addic7ed is usually always the first with original subs. Especially since almost always TV broadcasts or streaming have subtitles from the first day. So it's much easier to rip

If you can turn the subs into a text file (e.g. .srt), you can run the text through DeepL and paste it back. It might be slightly odd in a few instances, but generally works astoundingly well.

Pity, it's why test encodes are helpful. Subtitles are just text and the ones you used were the complete film not the foreign parts only version. You can open SRT subtitles in notepad to check them if you don't have a subtitle editor. To avoid copyright links, if you go to subscene.com search for Thor The Dark World; scroll down to the English subtitles and look for 'foreign parts only'. The ones by uploader sazu489 should work, but check them first before encoding. The Subtitle Edit app I mentioned is a very useful tool as you can preview the subtitles (you need VLC player installed); check they are in sync with the video and modify it not.

The subscene search seems to be working on and off now. But you can still do a google search for the subtitles, for example "Running Man Subscene", copy the address for the first entry, change the part that reads "subtitles" to "subtitles2" and go to that address.

Oh never mind. You're right. But what you can do is convert to them to a .srt file using SubtitleEdit. Although, that process is time-consuming as SubtitleEdit will constantly keep asking you what "x" word is to convert it successfully. What I'd recommend doing is simply downloading subtitles from subscene.com. Those subtitles have been successfully converted to .srt files and have little-no errors. It's a hassle if you do it yourself - especially with TV Shows.

look for the subtitles in a text format, namely .srt. plex has "agents" that's can automatically scrape subtitle dbs like subscene/opensubtitles.com

If plex already found subtitles and none work but I found working ones online, I add ".fr" to the end of the subtitle file name so that I can differentiate it from the half dozen ones that say English (External) in Plex. eg.,

Sadly I haven't found an easy solution to get past the Geoblock without a VPN but someone ripped On Demand Korea's subs and uploaded them to Subscene for anyone that has a copy of the RAW saved.

I see you found your solution but just FYI -- subtitles work in the free version of Videostream. (Provided you have the subtitles yourself and aren't relying on the app to grab them for you. If you are then you can download them yourself.)

I forgot to mention that. I am using a program called FileBot. It is $5 a year or $48 for a lifetime license. Right now I am doing the 1 year. Honestly it has been a lifesaver. It allows you to search against a couple of different databases. The primary one I am using is TVDB since that is what PLEX defaults to. In the settings you set the format you want for the files to be named. One of the options is {plex} that formats the filename and folder structure to the way PLEX likes.

Use strict mode for the first pass (i.e. deal with all the easy matches in a non-interactive way) and then do a second pass with opportunistic mode (i.e. the default, on whatever was left behind after first pass, now super fast since all online data is cached locally already).

FileBot stores the original filename as Extended Attribute. FileBot as well as SubZero can then use the original filename metadata to match the correct subtitles regardless of current filename.

I'm using hardlinks to allow torrent files to keep seeding. Hardlinks are ideal for this because it leaves seeding torrent files alone while making a link to those files in another folder that you can post-process, rename, etc. Another benefit of hardlinks is that it doesn't use any additional disk space (like making a copy would). You should read up on hardlinks and symlinks and decide which one is best for your situation.

You see, DuckieTV just sends the torrent request to your Torrent Client, and has no post processing ability to clean up the files you download via your client, or move them to other folders.

Sounds like what you want is a file manager. Then you can set up your Torrent Client to download to a common downloads folder, and have the file manager do the post processing to move the video files to the final series folder for kodi to use, and delete any spare files that usually come with the download.

An example of this type of program is FileBot, but there are other similar tools out there if you go Google'ing.

You can't have the {plex} format and not organize files because organizing file is exactly what the {plex} format does.

Presumably, you'll want to use {plex.name} which will be the file name part of the Plex path. However, since this is /r/PleX, I highly recommend organizing files properly according to the Plex standard.

Moving files and renaming files on the same file system will take exactly the same amount of time since it's basically the same operation on the filesystem level.

TL;DR there is no reason to just rename files and not organize them as well if you're preparing files for Plex.
