> the idol love train hasn't made its way to the west yet
I'm sure Love Live is pretty popular in the West (or else more popular than any other idol anime). The franchise has its own localised smartphone game, as well as the anime is licensed by NIS America and is still on stream through Crunchyroll. I should say that the West is exposed to it already.
According to Google Play, it's 4.1.4.
Edit: iTunes update is live...but it was weird. First there was 4.1.3, then all of a sudden there was 4.1.4? I had to update twice.
The Love Live wikia page has most of the audio dramas with eng subs, and also a comprehensive list of the "bunch of other crap" listed under "other adaptations".
Also, the mobile game.
You must simply be stupid. The first image is from "Love Live" and the second is from "Sword Art Online" either the manga or light novels. Both are not pornographic, and have sold millions upon millions of copies. Love Live is a super popular game on the Play Store. Do those reviewers seem like pedos to you? You are really going to call those 143k reviewers pedophilic? 1m+ downloads? That is just an incredibly gross misuse of the word. You can Youtube the game too and see TONS of female players who make videos for the game. You are living in a total fantasy world.
LoveLive! School Idol Festival
You can go as far as you want with F2P if you're disciplined and have super human levels of skill and endurance. You can also P2W your way to stronger teams, but it's not going to help if you're hopelessly bad at rhythm games. I love the music in this game and the challenge is real. It looks casual, and it can be, but if you are super hardcore, it'll satisfy you too.
For everyone who loves the songs and is not already playing the game here it is for iOS and Andriod:
Enable developer options > enable pointer location. Top right corner it says 'prs' which I guess stands for pressure but it measures surface area. Android has had it for years. As far as Gingerbread when I first found out about it.
There are some apps that have some sort of pressure recognition. I'm not sure how they're using it. Like this piano app. Doesn't work on all phones though. Works on my Z2.
Dunno why nobody else has ever used it.
Love Live School Idol Festival. Here's a picture for comparison
Kaho was already my favorite character because twintails, game nerd, and cute, but since I play this exact game, seeing her play it was the cherry on top for me.
I like Music Tutor, it's simple enough but helps a lot.
Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jsplash.musictutor&hl=en
iOS: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/music-tutor-sight-reading/id514363426?mt=8
I personally really like Love Live! School Idol Project which is actually really good. You might only like it if you like Love Live the anime though. The mechanics of the game are great so I would suggest giving it a shot anyways because it is the best rhythm game I've played and it is free and without ads.
There's a Q&A thread but if you have an android, someone made an app called SIF Train. You'll need to look at the wiki and load the beatmaps and music yourself, IIRC. There should be a Japanese app too but I'm not sure about the name of it off the top of my head and what it does is take videos from YouTube and let you tap, so it's less intuitive, I think?
Another option would be to have a separate account all together to use as a practice account, that way you could mess up without worrying. If you look up songs on YouTube there should be a couple that have smaller screens on them that help with timing/the beat but I personally just look at the actual videos and tap along. You'll git good, promise.
Well, you can download KR SIF easily.
Just copy Google Play Link and download the apk with this website.
Heyo, the game is actually called "Groove Coaster". If you wish to the UT songs at home, you can try the PC or mobile versions of the game which are quite fun too. Here you go:
PC : https://store.steampowered.com/app/744060/Groove_Coaster/
Mobile: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.co.taito.groovecoasterzero
On sight reading: if you can play through a given passage/piece at a consistent tempo by reading the sheet, you're sight reading it. It doesn't really matter how slow you go, so long as the tempo is consistent. For a total beginner, this sort of sight reading is very difficult, and I wouldn't worry too much about it. What I'd do instead is focus on improving your note recognition and your sense of rhythm. To improve the former, get an app (like this) or some flashcards to drill your recognition of notes as they appear on both clefs. To improve your sense of rhythm, take the pieces that you've been trying to sight read, and just focus on tapping out the rhythm with your left and right hand. Make sure you count yourself in and stick to a steady tempo. After a few days of doing this, you should feel more confident going forward.
On music theory: knowledge of at least basic theory definitely helps. This website has some very useful introductory lessons. In particular, having a good understanding of intervals will help your sight reading a lot: it's faster to spot an interval between two notes than it is to consciously identify both notes and work out the distance between them.
I'll give it a shot! In the meantime i'll give you my recommendation.
My favourite rythm game is definitely VOEZ (link). It's so beautiful and complex and amazing. There are some songs I don't like in it though.
I've been playing some TrackMania² Stadium lately. Remember The Impossible Game? Yeah, imagine that but as a racing game instead. TrackMania is a game where you race against the time to complete tracks as fast as possible. It has some very simple game mechanics, but there's a lot of variety in how the tracks are made. The game is incredibly fun and pretty addictive.
As for favorite phone games, probably Cytus. It's simply the best rhythm game on Android and has a ton of songs for free (about 130 or something?).
Downloading Love Live School Idol Festival also does the same thing.
It won't let you even open the app if you have root. Even with Rootcloak Love Live detected that I had root, that being said though Rootcloak isn't that reliable.
I would recommend you Love Live School Idol Festival, but it's an addictive trap into idol hell.
My life is now organized into chunks of time where I play idol rhythm songs in between. ^^send ^^help
turn down the text size and make sure nothing distracts you. on youtube, there is a channel that has guides of nearly every song on EN, and a lot of the JP songs. listen to those before you play your song and it will help a lot. i haven't tried it out yet, but there is an app on the google play store, called SIF Train and you can practice the songs on there without having to worry about LP. also, perfect locks. you can make a team of perfect lock cards and use it.
it'll take a while to FC your first 11 star expert, (i took 5 months, serious) but you will do it!
https://www.dsprototyping.com/forsale/wooden-ddr-pads.html
Mine only weigh 36 lbs
My pads will almost work with BeatX on your phone. (for some reason jumps aren't registering). You just need a USB to USB-c adapter. You can download beatX here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=sk.maniacs.bm&hl=en_US&gl=US
Have Fun!
So I looked, you would need to use it for piano. Here is another app that might work better for learning sheet music without an instrument.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jsplash.musictutor
Groove Coaster has a mobile game and a PC game, and they're both great
Been playing BeatX a lot lately. It's basically a DDR Sim. Discovered I could sync my PS4 controller to my phone and downloaded all of the PS2 DDR song packs. Extremely nostalgic.
Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=sk.maniacs.bm
Note: The one thing that might concern people is that you have to DL song packs from a 3rd party, but I've scanned the 4 I've downloaded and haven't had any hits.
I've found this app to be really helpful so far. You can set the range of notes, I started with G-A and then slowly added more in.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jsplash.musictutor
Love Live!School idol festival, it's the only app on my phone now, as it has gradually gotten bigger, and my phone is old, with limited space!
Your comment reminded me to redownload this app that I used to learn the bass clef (I play trombone as well so I needed to learn it). I recomend you do the same. It's not much, but it will gamify the process of learning the notes.
If you like musical rythym games, then VOEZ is absolutely worth your time. It's got this anime theme, but even if that's not your thing it's still worth a look.
You can get it for android here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.co.taito.groovecoasterzero&hl=en
And on iOs here: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/groove-coaster-2-original/id549050409?mt=8
And in arcade at your local Round 1
It's worth noting that Metal Gear Solid 2 is on PS2, PS3, Xbox, Xbox 360, PS Vita, Gamecube, and a variety of others. I don't know what your budget is but a Gamecube can be bought used for about 50 bucks in local stores around here and MGS Twin Snakes is about 15-20 bucks in local stores around here, also used.
While I prefer 2, most people prefer 3 which is on everything I mentioned but also 3DS.
Your Wii should be able to play Gamecube games. AFIK there's no reason to play the PS2 version of MGS 2 over any other version. In fact, I've heard Twin Snakes is quite nice. I personally enjoyed the PS Vita versions of MGS 2 and 3 quite a bit as well.
As far as your enjoyment of Rythm games and mobile games, my friends have been pretty into this Rythm game lately https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rayark.valkyrie&hl=en
> I've seen complaining on Google Play reviews about rooted devices, that's on what I based my assuption.
Actually, they're now added that notice in the end of the game description at Play Store
> (This game is not supported on rooted devices.)
> however it (probably) still blocks meaningfull changes (like player stats), since it's checked with server.
Yep. That means only client-side changes are possible (images, sounds, etc.)
We did but that was for a flair request, not a custom flair. What about the School Idol Festival game? It's a rhythm game but it does have story portions with an ADV text box.
You did but isn't this just a drawing contest? I'd rather make a drawing for this and if there's another one in the future then I'll do the cut out.
Here it is :) Just copy the google play link and generate the apk. (keep these two links, may be useful in future updates).
I can also host the file in mediafire and send the link in PM. I dont know if i can post here .-.
> What have you been playing?
Get the creeper cam out, I played School idol festival after Gita talked about it on the Beastcast. I only played it for a day, but it was a glorious day until I started feeling a bit creepy every time I opened it up. It's now off my phone but it has gotten me very excited for P4:DAN (my excitement lessened a quite bit after hearing Rise's new VO).
Asside from that, people are driving me crazy on PSN Profiles. I don't know if gaming session creators are putting the wrong time or completely forgetting about their sessions, but I've had two Arkham Origins sessions over the past few days that have had the creator no-show. I even woke up at 7:30 on a Saturday.
Also, Destiny. Hopefully I can hit 34 within the next couple weeks so I can do Skolos and not feel much pressure to finish Skolos. Probably going to resort to /r/destinysherpa.
> What Giant Bomb content have you been watching?
I did watch the TI5 finals witch chat on Friday. I don't care to play DOTA and I don't care much for esports, but I thoroughly enjoyed watching the finals so much so that I think I'll actually watch more than just the finals next year.
I can't recall if I watched anything this week other than UPF and the Tiny Danswers (Which, honestly, I did not care for the advice there). Oh, there was the Mailbag too. And the Microsoft Gamescom coverage which was fun if a bit underwhelming.
> What Giant Bomb content do you recommend from this week?
The only thing I can say is the We Talk Over Microsoft's Gamescom 2015 Press Conference video. Nothing else tickled my fancy this week.
There's Deemo. Another piano type thing. No wait! Don't leave! It's actually really great with a really nice story that goes along with it.
Vsauce covered it a while back in one of their App All Night video.
And it's free for Andriod!
I believe you're talking about Deemo! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rayark.pluto&hl=en_US&gl=US
Hope this is the one!
I don't know of any that let you make your own, but Deemo is the best rhythm game I've played and I think the way notes are hit is similar to guitar hero.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rayark.pluto
Its an old USB pad off Amazon from some knock off brand. There's still a bunch of them on Amazon and whether it will be good or not is all luck, mine still works after years. I use it to play Beat X as it's compatible with Stepmania songs.

Not really indeed, for some reason many western music games are not really good when it comes to game mechanica. Personnally I care about the gameplay first, and I truly love any music genre, but I get that it can be a turn off to some.
If you're after specific music genres, what I would recommend is to find a good Stepmania emulator, iirc BeatX is pretty good, and to get your own packs as there are thousands of songs available out there (Ben Speirs' are fantastic packs of NA pop songs, tons of content for free)
Another one that I haven't tried on android yet, but that I like on PC, is Spin Rhythm, requires less work than setting up a simulator and its music is great.
I wish there would be a good version of clone hero on Android too, as that's another great source of music with dozens of charts made every day.
Beatstar charts don't seem very inspired to me, but maybe it's a good casual game, I'm just quite picky regarding gameplay and the videos don't really appeal to me.
Chromebooks run android apps, right? you could try BeatX, it is basically a stepmania clone and can play stepmania charts.
hey this app is perfect piano on playstore
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gamestar.perfectpiano&hl=en_IN&gl=US
Sad to see you're being downvoted for having an opinion...
There's BeatX on android which is an excellent stepmania clone.
You can load up your own beatmaps, so just pick songs or genres you enjoy! There are thousands of songs available for free on the internet so I'm sure there are songs for your favourite genre aswell!
I played as a teenager, quit in my twenties, then picked it up again now in my thirties during lockdown, too. Apart from the cliché of practise, practise, practise, what helps me at least is:
- Studying at least a weeny bit of music theory as that helped me with my sight-reading. I enjoy playing more now than I did in my teens (and I swear my sight-reading is better now than after five years of playing the first-time round) because I can read the grand staff moderately well. I use this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jsplash.musictutor, but there's heaps of others and games that can make it slightly less dry.
- Playing songs that I know and like. I am practising songs from Annie atm and although one is giving me grief, I LOVE the song so I am motivated to keep learning.
- Articulating at least some vague goals. I want to be able to sight-read and play at performance level some day, but right now my goal is to play that Annie song properly.
- Don't be afraid to be discerning with teachers. They all have different styles and will have different backgrounds, so you are totally allowed to find someone that is happy to work with you on your goals, not theirs. I tried a few before I found my current teacher who is adorably enthusiastic and supportive.
Hopefully that helps you! Update us on how you go.
First game is always free. If ur interested, heres the link - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rayark.Cytus.full
If you're on Android then Music Tutor would do the job perfectly.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jsplash.musictutor
I'm sure there's something similar on ios
if u don't want to get too much invested n just want to test the waters, I'd suggest u to try an android /ios app. try perfect Piano and learn some basic songs n practice them
LLSIF

English version still going strong after like 5 years. It's a fun rhythm game with no powercreep other than score tiering which isn't all that rewarding. Compared to more recent rhythm games it's more barebones but that doesn't mean it's bad in any way.
I've been using Perfect Piano for a couple of weeks now, and I love it:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gamestar.perfectpiano
Works with USB and Bluetooth MIDI controllers, and in addition to piano, has about 40 instruments, and you can record your playing and export MIDI files. On top of all that, Perfect Piano has learning and game modes.
School Idol Festival. I've been playing for over 2.5 years and I'll never come close to the skill level and results of the best players. I don't think I'll ever full combo a master level song. But I still enjoy playing it and trying to full combo expert songs. But when you see what the top players can do, it's humbling, and the only conclusion you can come to is that they're not human.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=sk.maniacs.bm
Beatx rhythm game. It’s like dance dance revolution or Stepmania.
Tons of songs available. Works well other than problem described above.
Yeah, I started piano 2/14/18. I took one look at sheet music (close look - of course I'd glanced at it before as a non-musician) and knew I'd need help so downloaded that app. I'm a big believer in gamification. Make it fun, shoot for higher points and before you know it (in my case, 2 days), you'll be doing whatever the gamified app is supposed to have you be doing.
So I've heard about this app on android. Can't vouch for it though, but it looks like it would get the job done. You can also look for apps that look like out right games. The more of a game, the less of a pain ;)
BTW, when I say you'll be reading in 2 days, I hope you don't understand this to mean you will be fluent. Nope. If you remember learning to read individual letters one by one as a child, well that will be you after 2 days. But once you can sound out the letters, you'll be able to read entire words soon enough. I am almost to that point myself! ;)
Personally I use BeatX. It's currently one of the better app that can play the stepmania files.

You press the buttons/arrows as they fall down, or up, depending on your style of playing the game. The app includes a method of getting more songs (which I never tried). For songs you get from somewhere else (like if I make my own ones) you can simply put them anywhere in the phone and open them within the game, or open the file WITH the game itself.
Well, it doesn't meet the Portait mode, but in terms of how Piano Tiles is:
VOEZ - iOS Store / Android Store
Hands down fav game of that style. I think it will fit your taste. :)
Do you like musical games? Cytus is one of the only games I'm willing to pay for.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rayark.Cytus.full
I tend to use my extra Google play credits to rent/buy textbooks.
The only rhythm game I've tried on andriod is Groove Coaster 2. It's a free game involving tapping the screen in time to the music. You can only play the in built music tracks rather than your own, with the option to purchase more tracks for real money. I remember it having a wide range of difficulty settings, but didn't hold my interest for very long due to the simplistic gameplay.
Love Live! School Idol Festival. English version of the Japanese rhythm game. Yeah, it's P2W, but no amount of money spent is going to help you get past the hardest difficulties. If you have poor timing and rhythm, you will fail miserably. Expert rhythm gamers will probably find it very easy, but it is a challenge for casuals, like me. The biggest flaw to me is that the LP system (ie. energy) really restricts you from playing for long sessions, unless of course, you're willing to spend. Despite the inherent P2W issues, the game is fun, the artwork and music is great and the developer keeps it updated regularly. Anime moe fans will enjoy this game. There's a large community supporting the game, including on reddit ( /r/SchoolIdolFestival ), if you really want to invest in it.
Also playing PinOut. The entire presentation is so polished and beautiful. The thing that grabbed me the most is the music, especially the vocals on some of the songs. That was probably the thing that motivated me the most to buy the game. The base game play and board designs are a little on the simplistic side, but there's no denying that the game is addictive. When you get into the flow of the game, it's quite amazing.
Yup, that is a very good point. It's all to build up that anticipation and spectacle of opening up that ~~box~~ mod.
A game that I play on the side is Love Live School Idol Festival, a Japanese game that I knew going in was totally P2W and built completely around gacha/loot boxes. It's so funny and sad to see the Riven mods. These two games are oddly alike now. Massive, massive grind, and now we have loot boxes.
Obligatory Anime Idol Rhythm Game. Premium currency is basically farmable given enough time, and content is gated as much by individual player skill as team strength.
Speaking of music I've been playing VOEZ recently, it's a rhythm game made by Rayark (the same one who made Cytus and Deemo) so far i'm loving it :)
TW=Taiwanese I've played the TW version for a short amount of time. All the words are in Chinese, which was very confusing for me. The updates for the game should be at about the same speed at EN, so don't expect JP. As for how to download it, I managed to get ahold of a device that already had a Chinese App store, so it was easy. But for android, I'm pretty sure it can be found on here Good Luck Starting!!!!!!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.gamon.loveliveTW should be the taiwanese version on google play. As /u/SeireiLy linked, there is an apk there, although I don't know if it's up-to-date.
There is supposedly also a korean version (?)
Apk can be download from google play with https://apps.evozi.com/apk-downloader/
I found the google play store page for it but I can't seem to find an actual apk for it. You will need to have a TW account for the play store I believe and others have said you need to either use a vpn or change your ip to that of taiwan, but I'm not to sure on that.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=klb.android.lovelive_en
This is the English version. I play the Japanese one because it has more stuff. You can install it via the apk. Just Google for it.
Although I don't play GC that much, I recently discovered that GC has an Android version now and would like to check if /r/groovecoaster knows about it. Then what I see is just this empty sub that has been locked down by someone who thought that it was a good idea 2 months ago.
So.. now that you know that GC is on Android (and thus the whole sub), I has accomplished my mission here. See ya!
Google Play Store link (though you might need Taiwan VPN to create Taiwanese Google Account and download it)
Alternatively, you might wanna search for the APK ID "net.gamon.loveliveTW". I'm not sure whether QooApp has the app though (someone else might need confirm).
