DisplayFusion - it is the best multi-monitor management tool I've ever used. Loads better than what's included in Windows, that's for sure. $25 US for a one-computer license.
If you would like to get 3 different wallpapers for each monitor, you can use DisplayFusion. It easily allows you to get different wallpapers for each monitor, but it also is able to a few more tricks that you may like.
Yes, but one time pay for all the computers in your household. It's worth the price for all the functions it has. Relieves a lot of hastle if you have a multi monitor setup. The free version misses what you want: https://www.displayfusion.com/Compare/
Sometimes they have sales, discount codes.
Try Display Fusion. There is a free version and a paid version. I use the free version and have been for some time. I have been really happy with it. I included a link below.
You can nab it on Steam pretty easy, but I do believe they used to have a free version on their main website. O-o
Looks like they still have it, but it has reduced functionality in some parts. It is a handy program and I'm pretty sure steam has included it in sales before, so you may want to hold out for it if you can live with the free version. $30 might be a bit high for a quality of life program...but I don't regret my purchase at all >_> I don't leave mine in eyefinity mode, but it's still super handy for just multiple monitors.
DisplayFusion, makes having multiple monitors easier. Multiple toolbars, ability to have game still activated on 1st monitor while operating something on the second, much more. Also available in Steam.
E: am not a shill.
There is a bit more to it than multiple taskbars, but that's definitely the main appeal. If you feel like deep diving, there is a ton of customization you can do such as custom triggers when opening applications and wallpaper tweaks. For ~$7 it's absolutely worth it.
I use displayfusion to handle my monitors. It has this feature built in. You can take a snapshot of your favorite positions and apps. Then made it a keyboard shortcut or titlebar button.
link: DisplayFusion
Specifically, DisplayFusion's Dual Screen Screensaver.
If you really want to get detailed, transparent screen savers. the security of locking your PC with the productivity of a monitor.
You'll need two programs for this: one to control the audio and one to control the video. For audio I suggest SoundSwtich. Just tell it which audio devices you want to cycle through and give it a cycle command. I use Alt+Ctrl+Home. It's complexity means that I'll never accidentally trigger it with the keyboard. For video you can use Windows + P to bring up a menu with display options but I would suggest DisplayFusion to do this stuff automatically. Then just assign whatever hotkeys/commands to your Steam Chord binding and you'll have access to these functions regardless of binding. You'll just hold the Guide button and then press whichever button you assigned the hotkeys to.

Displayfusion also did a lot of things that W8 and below didnt.
basic shit is listed on their site The main thing i always used it for was spreading the task bar to other monitors and allowing you to group what was display only on that monitors task bar. Also changing the login screen and different backgrounds for each monitor.
Windows 10 started supporting the task bar features in a w10 update. I stopped using display fusion after that. I didnt really use any of the other features it had.
You can use X-Mouse to do it.Download from here it is free:https://www.highrez.co.uk/downloads/xmousebuttoncontrol.htm 1.First go to Options and toggle Enable axis locking.
2.At bottom left , open settings,go at Hotkeys tab -> toggle Enable global hotkeys ,then go to Other Hotkeys and find the Toggle X/Y axis lock ,set a custom hotkey at them(like Ctrl+shift+f4),click ok.
3.At mouse button 4 select simulated keys, and enter {CTRL}{SHIFT}{F4} at the top.Click ok
4.Click Apply and close the window to work.
Tell me if you need any help or if it is not working.
Edit:Just realised there is an easier way to do it if you use both mouse button 5 and 4.Just do the first step then go at mouse button 4 ,scroll down and select Lock Mouse X-Axis(Toggle) do the same at mouse button 5 for Y-Axis and click Apply. You are done.
FINE
Even deeper down the rabbit hole I found this software which claims to be able to set up virtual monitors on one device, though I read on another site that if you try to fullscreen a video, or a game, Windows will allow whatever it is to usurp the entire monitor.
Pretty great list. Maybe add dual + monitor wallpaper tools? DisplayFusion is what I use, based off /r/multiwall recommendations. 10x better than the stock Windows 10 buggy mess.
Sounds like displayfusion will do what you want.
https://www.displayfusion.com/
> Doing the following will force all new windows to open on the screen that the mouse cursor is on: > > Create a new Window Location rule > Set the application to: . > Select the "Use Current Monitor" option > Click OK
However it looks like this feature is not in the free version so you'd have to pay for it.
Paid under triggers: Perform Action: Move Window to Mouse Cursor Monitor
DisplayFusion support guru here! This is due to an issue where Windows removes applications from Task View if DF removes them from the Windows taskbar (e.g. when the Taskbar Mode is set to "All taskbars show relevant windows"). We're still trying to sort this one out, but in the meantime, you can work around it by changing the Taskbar Mode on the Settings > Taskbar tab to "Windows shows all, DisplayFusion shows relevant."
If you still need any further help, please feel free to give us a shout at the link below! https://www.displayfusion.com/Support/#contact
OP: Invest in DisplayFusion. It's $30, but you can get it through Steam, so it may be on sale with the Steam sale starting this week.
I will never use multi-monitors again without a program like this. And the best part is, you only pay this price once. It's a lifetime license, even if the version changes (4.x, 5.x, 6.x, etc).
Edit: Got a few replies to this already, so... This guy gives a quick synopsis of its biggest features. When it goes on sale (which it very well may in the Steam sale later this week), it's a steal.
Maybe try using some display software?
Here’s a trial for one https://steamcommunity.com/linkfilter/?url=https://www.displayfusion.com/Download/
Pretty sure you can configure your resolution using this.
I doubt the cd keys are interchangeable. If if not shown in the steam library a cd key might be found in the windows registry.
Not sure if this still holds true, but settings were stored in registry. https://www.displayfusion.com/Discussions/View/feature-request-import-export-settings/?ID=1c68c248-2bc7-4a87-9f9d-4846d4da45b0
https://www.displayfusion.com/KB/CommandLine/ >DisplayFusionCommand.exe -settingsbackup "C:\Backups\DisplayFusionBackup.reg" Saves the current DisplayFusion Settings to C:\Backups\DisplayFusionBackup.reg
Might seek assistance from the developer in how to move settings to the Steam version.
Few different solutions.
DisplayFusion lets you set shortcuts to do this pretty handily. Not sure what the free version offers but premium is $30 or a few minutes with your eyepatch on. Totally worth it if you've got multiple monitors though, I dunno what I'd do without it
I use displayfusion!
https://www.displayfusion.com/
I actually have the steam version and picked it up for $10 the first time I saw it go on sale.
The free version is also good, it'll definitely handle two monitors and everything I've got going on here.
What I've been doing for years is play TF2 and other games in exclusive fullscreen mode on my main monitor, but use DisplayFusion to keep it maximized even when it loses focus.
Only issue is that this a paid program (really great for multiple monitors tho) and I've been looking for a free alternative for preventing games from minimizing but there just don't seem to be any. It's weird because the DF devs claim all they do is tell Windows to not apply the "minimize fullscreen application upon losing focus" flag to the game. You'd thus think this is a simple thing a hobbyist programmer would have come up with by now, but it doesn't seem so.
Back in the day, from windows 3.11 if you SHIFT X a window it would remember from where it was terminated and come back. Worked up till Win7
Win10 breaks all things sensible, but also, because of the way monitors and the GPU's talk to each other bilaterally, if one monitor goes to sleep before another, for example, windows pulls everything back to the awake monitor.
Anyhoo.
https://www.displayfusion.com/ (Window Position Profiles feature)

There are some free ones too.
You can do this with DisplayFusion (official site here) and Task Scheduler. I'm not sure if you can do it without additional software. DisplayFusion is absolutely worth the purchase though.
I've got 5, so I figured I'd chime in here.
First, you'll need software to keep them all playing nicely. Windows hates having more than 2 or 3, especially when you throw different resolutions in the mix. Programs like Display Fusion and Fences will help tremendously.
Second, you'll need to consider how you're going to set them all up. Unless you have a giant desk and you plan to line them all up in a neck-breaking line, you'll probably be considering getting some hardware to hang them off the wall or mount them on your desk. I personally went with a desk mount solution, and made the mistake of getting a mount that holds 4 monitors, like this. Unfortunately they don't fine-tune enough to get all the monitors lined up correctly so I think in this case getting several mounts that hold 2 monitors each would be better. But really that all comes down to what your end-game plan is here, and how you're going to set everything up.
Last, you're gonna need at least 2 graphics cards to run that many monitors. Unless you invest in something that is specifically designed to run several you can probably just buy something small and cheap since most of the monitors will just be running stuff on the side, and not really need any power behind them.
That's all I can really think of. Again, just wanted to throw my 2 cents in the ring since this is something I've had to deal a lot with.
Alright, cheers for checking. Symptoms i'm seeing are very similar to this so it may just be a matter of waiting it out.
For versions lower than 8.0: Right click -> Settings -> Window Location
For DisplayFusion 8.0 and up: https://www.displayfusion.com/Discussions/View/working-with-triggers/?ID=43b31609-4ec6-4478-99f8-a1f11e9793f7
you can do this with an app called Display Fusion. Enables which monitors to use and the correct peripherals and audio. Best thing ever if you have multiple displays.
You should download https://www.displayfusion.com/ for changing monitor setup. All those extra clicks that could be shortened to rightclick on a taskbar and selecting or a keybind. Its painful to watch.
SMPlayer has an option to always be on top. It also has a plug-in to allow you to search for YouTube videos from the video player.
DisplayFusion provides an option to make a window always on top so you can use that with whatever program you currently prefer for watching the YouTube videos.
I prefer Display Fusion myself.
The simplest solution, if you want something with a GUI would be either a program or an app, like the previously suggested ones :)
The biggest hassle you''ll run into is that most of these are designed for people who normally rotate through their wallpapers several times an hour, so you might run into issues entering an interval equivalent to 3 days.
Display Fusion, for example prefers it's walpaper rotation interval to be entered in minutes, so after a quick calculator round, you'd enter 4320 minutes as your interval.
Hmm. Let's try that. Seems to accept it just fine. Not sure I want to wait 3 days to see if it works, but at least I know it won't throw an error just because I entered an unusual interval.
DisplayFusion can do something like this in the triggers menu :) https://www.displayfusion.com/Discussions/View/automatically-saving-and-restoring-window-positions-on-dockundock/?ID=5540c67a-5e2b-4f41-b88c-de4d9c2fa354
You can install Displayfusion and you can have that software source random pictures from different places
Edit: looks like that feature is in the paid version. While I think the software is well worth the price, sometimes Steam and Humble have discount
I highly recommend Display Fusion for managing your multi monitor setup. You can also get it on Steam for just a couple dollars. You can put different wallpapers on each monitor and do all kinds of other neat things to customize your desktop.
https://www.displayfusion.com/
I use it and it works fine. You can use it to split your monitors up however you want. It also has a raft of other features like wallpaper management, snapping, hotkeys etc. It's one of those programs that once you have it set up, you don't notice it there.
I used 1" think MDF board I had laying around, but the plans I used ([Ricmotech](www.ricmotech.com)) called for 1/2" thickness. You can find these at pretty much any hardware store.
I used the 40" TV I had in my room and mounted it directly to my rig (I wasn't using the TV anymore anyway). It's connected to my PC via a HDMI cable and I use a program (DisplayFusion) to manage which monitor is my main screen for the purpose of starting the simulator on the correct screen.
I used the Ricmotech plans, as cited above. They're 30$ and saved me the trouble of planning everything myself. What isn't in the plans though is mounting your seat. I got my seat from the local junkyard out of a Toyota Celica. The problem was that I couldn't bolt it straight to the base of the rig, so it took some thinking to fix it all together.
You don't store something like this! You leave it out to show it off to everyone. Mine stays in mine room, it's a bit in the way, but I had to keep it close to my PC, so I didn't have a choice.
Here are a couple of galleries of my build and how it sits in my room once complete.
I personally don't use DisplayFusion, so this is absed on this page
I'm not able to give an answer within Windows 10 itself, but I hope that's better that nothing:
I've been using DisplayFusion for the last few years, and the taskbar is quite customizable.
At the moment, I have a duplicate taskbar on the second monitor, each showing only the windows that are on that screen.
I hope that help!
I don't use Nvidia surround I use a program called DisplayFusion, Its very easy to use and the basic verson is free :)
EDIT: wow, that sounded like a advertisement xD
I'm going to second Display Fusion as they have tools for this (although I haven't had the need to use them).
It may have something to do with using VGA. My monitors are 2x DVI and 1x HDMI.
VGA is very old indeed and is an analog format, where DVI, HDMI and Display Port are digital. You may have an issue with Windows not wanting to make a VGA display the primary display.
Try getting a HDMI/DVI to VGA adapter and running both from your graphics card. Ideally, you should only use your graphics card, as using onboard graphics together with a graphics card has issues (including significant performance problems - I lost about 50% of my FPS when I tried this out).
Check out https://www.displayfusion.com/ this allows you to adjust your monitor locations without having to physically move them. I use the free version and it is great for making the monitors align properly.
Lastly, update your graphics card drivers.
I swear, if they make Direct Storage the DX10 debacle all over again...
But yes, it may well perform better under Windows 11, but I strongly suspect that it won't perform that much better, in the end, so long as it does it's job as intended, by the time it becomes particularly relevant, normal NVMe drives will have handily made up the difference in raw performance.
As for DisplayFusion, one of the best Windows tools I know of for multiple monitor support, tons of deep customization, new keyboard shortcuts, and options that Windows simply has never offered for managing your second (or third) display. I've been using it for over 10 years now, and it's still far and away better than native support. It's also on Steam.
To be clear, I'm not shilling, I've just been happily using it for ages.
You might wanna explore using DisplayFusion for some automatic window management.
Automatic Child Dialog/Window Movement
Enabling this feature allows DisplayFusion to automatically move newly opened windows from the same application to the same monitor as the parent application. This is especially helpful for applications that stubbornly open new windows on a different monitor than the one you're currently working on.
On Windows I like to use Display Fusion (https://www.displayfusion.com/). $30 for a license. It does several things that I like over default Windows functionality:
These are just the primary features I like to use with their app.
I don't use this particular feature cause for the most part I don't have the problem you're describing on a regular basis, but they have a feature called 'Window Position Profiles', which might fix your complaint.
Probably, it may be able to mirror in different resolution/ specified window / specified screen area by using monitor control software (but, cannot assure)
- UltraMon - Mirror screen with different resolution, duplicate specific window
https://www.realtimesoft.com/ultramon/tour/mirroring.asp
- DisplayFution - duplicate specific window, open child windows in the same window of parent
https://www.displayfusion.com/Features/Functions/
- Actual Multiple Monitors - duplicate specific window
I just wanted to let you know, I found a solution that (so far) is working for me. I started using DisplayFusion (perhaps other multi-monitor software would work as well). I set up three different monitor profiles:
Then I followed the steps found on this post that shows how to load a monitor profile on startup. I set it for my third profile with the LG CX disabled, and now I can turn my computer on without having to turn my LG CX on.
Also I can change monitor profiles using a drop down that I have set to a hotkey for easy switching. You can find how to do that here.
Maybe this solution will also work for you. Hope it helps!
MonitorKeeper was better but not perfect. I am now trying this app to see if it's good. If not, I will have to escalate to DisplayFusion
Display Fusion. There is a free version (or at least there used to be) then you could pay to upgrade to the Pro version for like $30. I’ve ran it for years and love it. Once you pay once it keeps downloading updates too. Will allow multiple monitor background slideshow folders, changing the lock screen background image, extended the start bar across multiple monitors (this was nice back in Win 7, but 10 does this natively) and it will also allow you to jump application windows from monitor to monitor with the click of a button that appears next to minimize, among a number of other features. It’s really a great app.
I'm not sure if this applies to all monitors but there are indeed UW monitors that allow you to plug in multiple connections into it and split the screen as needed. The Samsung CRG9 does this, allowing you to connect your PC and PS4 side by side on your screen if you desire. If you want to keep your multi-screen setup when you go UW (with your PC programs) then be sure to check out Displayfusion (Steam Link), the program is a must have for any UW user that wants to maximize their multi-tasking options. It lets you split monitors into virtual screens so you use your UW monitor as multiple windows PC screens. There are some limitations but you can always check their page for more info.

Sounds like shameful marketing but it's just really good lol.
i could send you the raw video without reddit compression and you could use any wallpaper manager that allows you to use a video as background likedisplayfusion or any alternative, message me and I'll send you the video if you're interested
What OS are you using? Windows 10 allows you to individually set your wallpapers for each monitor, so there is no need to merge wallpapers into a single image. I sort of recall older versions also had this functionality as well.
If you need more fine tuned control over your dual screen wallpapers, including carousel mode, searching/loading from different online sources, different profiles, etc, then I can heartily recommend DisplayFusion, but it has less features in its free version.
It looks like MacOS also has native dual monitor wallpaper support, if that is your system of choice.
This (popular with some on Reddit) software seems to do it, at the cost of buying the pro version. The trial version does not let you try out the multi-monitor taskbar feature it has. The associated doc for said multi-monitor taskbar feature says:
https://www.displayfusion.com/
(They are called 'system tray icons', I believe. Windows 10 native settings facility allows you to turn them off and on individually only from what I can see.)
That's Displayport problem. I haven't found a way to avoid that yet, although on my system (AMD GPU) the 2nd monitor does stay when connecting through TeamViewer.
Only when I power them back up / wake them from powersave, the windows shuffle to the 1st monitor, I have used DisplayFusion to save the window positions and restore them.
You could also check this thread for clues.

Here's what I did.
Downloaded Display Fusion thanks to u/kalabaleek , through steam for $34.99 to get the pro license (required for what we're doing).
This program allows you to set monitor profiles, i.e. 1,2,3 enabled with 1 as primary monitor is my main profile (desktop use). 2nd profile is 1&2 disabled with 3rd set as primary (rig use). You can use the program to set a hotkey that switches your monitor profiles.
So now, with display fusion running on startup, I can sit down at my rig and press the hotkey to automagically switch my monitor profile. I havent exactly tried that yet but according to google I can plug in a 2nd mouse and keyboard no problem so it should work.
here's a post I found that walks you through it: https://www.displayfusion.com/Discussions/View/hot-key-to-switch-primary-monitor/?ID=077e922c-920b-4358-96ad-b1e6a396aad8
If you download display fusion from the website it gives you a trial license for a few days. You can try it that way before buying a license to make sure its going to work for you.
I use a program called Display Fusion for my multi monitor setups. This allows me to move around the background on each screen so everything lines up correctly.
Check it out. https://www.displayfusion.com I don't work for this company or anything, just enjoy the their software.
The multitasking is good! LG's ultrawide monitors come with a piece of software called Onscreen Control. Aside from allowing you to adjust your monitor's settings from within Windows rather than through the OSD menu, it will give you several quick and easy screen split options to create multiple windows to work in. You could have your game on one side of the monitor in 1920x1080 resolution, and a browser with YouTube/Twitch/Netflix on the other side. This would even leave some room for a third window to browse reddit or a game wiki.
There's also several PiP (Picture in Picture) modes available, so you could game in full 21:9 and have a separate device like a laptop, tablet or game console overlay a smaller video feed on the image. I'd say you will have ample options for multitasking.
Of course, if the accompanying software isn't quite to your liking, you could look at a different solution like DisplayFusion for your needs. DisplayFusion allows you to create virtual monitors within your actual physical display, giving you powerful options for playing fullscreen games on one side and browsing the web or watching video on the other side.
I've never tried anything like this, but I just googled something like "split display into virtual monitors" and found this https://www.digitaltigers.com/split-4k-monitor-into-multiple-virtual-monitors.asp
Could also try
https://www.displayfusion.com/
I have no experience with either of these.
Pretty much everything you can think of in arranging monitors. You can set the order of the monitors such as which is primary, secondary, etc. The arrangement of the monitors can be defined like landscape or portrait. Resolutions of each monitor can be set.
Here's a link outlining some of the features:
I used DisplayFusion for a while before I switched to Wallpaper engine. But my monitors were both landscape. A lot of options in displayfusion, might be worth a look?
Go look at DisplayFusion it's on sale for $14.50 right now and well worth the regular $30 price for the Pro version.
You can setup triggers which is what your probably looking for. Otherwise your looking at a HDMI switcher which is hardware and will probably still need DF.
1.) cheap 60hz Dell's - I usually get the E2216HV's from the Dell Outlet store for $79 each but that's in US $ not sure about EU versions. It's a good work/school 22" monitor and you can game on it.
2.) Cheap universal USB docking station like this one to put a workstation together with.
3.) And Display Fusion to do all of the fancy "remember monitor settings stuff", taskbar settings, and where software starts type of things.
For a continuous panorama like that someone will have to make wallpapers for you. I found a handful of images that are wide enough but only 3 looked at all decent when made into wallpapers, and they're not ideal.
If you don't mind having different images on each monitor you can use a program like Display Fusion.
I know you mentioned Win+arrow keys. Not sure if you also think Win+Shift+arrow keys is annoying? That moves the window to the next monitor instead of snapping it to the edge first.
Otherwise DisplayFusion may have a way to get something more to your liking.
howdy messageforyousir,
as Smoother101 said, this is a problem with an existing fix. [grin] try displayfusion. they have a free trial ...

A couple of old 24" NEC 1920x1200 Multisyncs. If you do a lot of undocking, DeskTopOK helps with restoring icon layout and fine-tuning spacing. DisplayFusion is great but may be overkill for your needs.
Alrighty!
Damn you for making me want to do this as well!
I did some digging and that damn WebPageWallpaper thing sucks. No options at all with it! Eventually I remembered a previous software I used, Display Fusion... and sure enough! It supports it no problem!
https://www.displayfusion.com/
Sadly the feature set for a Free user (though they do offer a 30 day trial) is very limited and does not include this ability, with the full version being $25 USD.
I personally run a 2 monitor set up, so I have imgurs /r/eveporn feed on one monitor and a lovely display of mass death within New Eden on the other now!
If you do pick up the software and need a hand setting up the map, feel free to message back!
Some key notes: You can NOT interact with the webpage, and it DOES go behind your desktop icons. Perfect for this kind of application.
Okay, so I did a little bit of research, and am now pretty confident that it was neither of those things.
From what I found you probably got DisplayFusion installed, which among other things displays such icons in the title bar. You can either deactivate this in the DisplayFusion settings (there should be an icon in the system tray) or just uninstall it alltogether.
According to that post, you can "fullscreen" a video (not sure about games) to virtual monitor... but... I haven't check, so that's about all I can tell ya.
If you want to still use monitor sleep, DisplayFusion can help with saving/restoring the window positions :) https://www.displayfusion.com/Discussions/View/automatically-save-and-restore-window-positions-on-sleepresume/?ID=fa98975e-e4ed-45de-afe0-fafad56c7a83
We're planning to build that functionality in a future version, but for now, you can still do this using Scheduled Tasks and DisplayFusion Wallpaper Profiles: https://www.displayfusion.com/Discussions/View/scheduling-wallpaper-changes/?ID=68aad2a0-24b8-40a8-bbb1-f5b5ec36aa8d
Hope that helps!
Display Fusion may be able to assist with this... https://www.displayfusion.com/Features/DesktopIcons/
That or Stardock Fences also could help (sure helps my OCD and mess of icons)... http://www.stardock.com/products/fences/
DisplayFusion support guru here! Installing DisplayFusion through Steam will not affect your existing settings. If it does for some reason, you should be able to recover them, as the installer makes a backup of the settings in the Documents\DisplayFusion Backups folder :)
Edit: As always, if you run into any trouble, please don't hesitate to contact us directly: https://www.displayfusion.com/Support/#contact
display fusion lets you customise your second monitor a lot, you can choose to have the wallpapers of your choice, even if you want you can use online wallpapers taken from any internet page and so much more stuff i'l let you the page, it's totally worth the use but. you have to buy it :/ https://www.displayfusion.com/ here i let you the page, a lot of people uses it hope this helps answering your questions
I really have no idea how the wallpaper options in 10 work, I've been using DisplayFusion since before I upgraded and it has many options for wallpaper on multiple monitors. You can have on image stretched, multiple images, on image duplicated, slideshows, online sources, etc.
Before I picked up a new video card, my old one could only output to two monitors simultaneously, but I wanted to use my PC on my TV as well. To do that, I basically had it set up to use the PC dual monitors and then a hotkey that would disable those two and then set the TV as primary. Then another hotkey to go back to the two PC monitors and disable the TV. I used https://www.displayfusion.com/ to do this. You can set up monitor profiles under the create/edit monitor profiles option, and then underneath that section, there is also a manage monitor profiles button that allows you to assign each one a hot key. I think that sounds like what you're looking for. I can't remember if that was a feature of the pro version or not, but it's a very nice app and well worth the purchase. I'm not sure if there is a free alternative app that will do the same thing. Hopefully that will get you in the right direction though.
Oh gosh I just now realized you meant wallpaper! I'm so sorry. I was in a rush to leave for a movie and didn't catch that. Thought you meant a screen saver.
Here's a link saying earlier this year (February) DisplayFusion was looking into putting a feature to include a .gif into the background. Not sure about a live background though.
Sorry for the confusion!
Displayfusion can do that.
I have shortcuts on my desktop for switching from one monitor to three, from three to my tv and for making my middle screen 1080p (it's normaly 1440p) for games where i want to turn up the settings or just need more frames.
It can change playback devices as well and you can do it remotely from a smartphone or even a smartwatch.
I might be misunderstanding you, but if you are simply looking for a task bar on each monitor then give this a shot https://www.displayfusion.com/
It does that and many other things. Here is a youtube vid of it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_gpNCmwZd5c
I bought a program called Display Fusion. They have a free version but obviously there are less features. This program goes on sale a lot but I definitely recommend picking up the paid version.
Have a look at DisplayFusion, it allows splitting the one screen into multiple sections.
You may be able to use the W7 snap feature to snap the window to half the screen if the game is in windowed mode, though I haven't tried this. Grab the title bar of the window and drag it to the left or right edge of the screen.
AFAIK with Windows you can't set a main display on a laptop as a secondary display. At least in XP and W10 on my gf's HP Mini 210 I could never get it to.
Look into Display Fusion or maybe someone will chime in with a better fix
Not free but it works well. The only caveat is that I have had an extremely annoying windows taskbar focus bug since upgrading to windows 10 from 8.1 even after a clean install and I haven't yet ruled this application out as the culprit.
I had no idea what you were talking about until I found out that an app I have installed called DisplayFusion:

Gives me a more classic alt tab with the desktop option available.
assuming your gpu can get 144 fps on the settings/resolution you are playing at. will need probably a minimum of a heavily overclocked gtx970 to play maxed on dx11 at 1080p and get close to 144fps.
if you enable vsync, it will run your game will run at your monitors refresh rate. so if its 144hz, it will run at 144fps.
you can turn to lowest settings, and if you hit 144fps on that, you are definitely running your monitor at 144hz.
if you are using multiple monitor, you MUST use display fusion. like you literally can not use multi monitor w/o having it, its impossible. https://www.displayfusion.com/
its by far the best multimonitor software, and its so amazing, you cant get along without it. (you can do many thing, but for gaming, you can change the fullscreen game to any monitor with the press of a hotkey. you can run a game in full screen and alt+tab or click to other monitors w/o causing game to minimize or crash, and you can lock your mouse to a specific monitor all with hotkey commands)
Are you guys running DisplayFusion? If so, update to the latest beta and this issue should be all fixed up.

Non-gaming activities on a second monitor will have almost no impact on gaming. You can get software such as Displayfusion, which offers certain optimisations like you mentioned, but I always end up uninstalling it as it doesn't really add anything for me personally.
When I had a weird setup like that I used DisplayFusion. It allows you to have different backgrounds on each screen so I made 3 different wallpapers that fit together nicely (it was a lego man walking down a path and his car/house were on the other screens, worked beautifully).
DisplayFusion also has some nice little features like taskbar on each screen, Multi-monitor screensavers, etc.
Not sure if it works with nVidia cards (it certainly works with Eyefinity modes on AMD cards), you can use DisplayFusion to limit windows to one monitor when they're maximized.
Um... You really haven't explained what your problem is at all... Do you want to have different wallpapers on your monitors? You can try out DisplayFusion, it's a great program for multiple monitor setups.
You could try to use this program : https://www.displayfusion.com/
I used it back in my dual monitor days. I think it'll help, you can even set separate wallpapers for each monitor.
I think the reason you are having a problem, if I'm reading correctly, is because your main monitor is the right hand side one, so if it stretches from right to right, it'll loop back around to the left, therefore swapping it around, I guess. If that makes sense.
Can always try the program, as far as I remember all I needed was free, unless they've started to charge for it I'm not sure. You could also change the left monitor to the main one and see if that fixes it. I'm not sure if you can really change the identity, the only way to do that is to change the video card slot for each one, then set the one you want as the "main" monitor manually.
Sorry if I'm explained it pretty badly, I'm part way through writing a 60-70 page report for university and just needed a break heh.

According to the above, the monitor splitting function I described above is not included in the free version (though that can be replicated by something like FancyZones as u/ZeroVDirect explained below).
HOWEVER it looks like the custom functions with window moving / resizing with assigned keyboard shortcuts IS included in the free version.
I'd recommend DisplayFusion. It's $30 for a license but it's really worth it if you use multiple displays. Tons of customizations and it looks like they're already working on features specifically for Windows 11 which is nice.
Display Fusion will allow you to set them to a hotkey.
Highly recommend displayfusion if you have multi monitors anyways
So wait, you want four different screens on your one big monitor from your laptop? I think what you're looking for is DisplayFusion. It's not free, but it does what you need. I don't know any free alternatives, but maybe you can find some now that you know this.
Windows will let you choose which displays to extend and which to duplicate, but it must be done through Display Settings, the Win+P shortcut only has basic options.
The quickest option I think would be: when using the PC, set display 2 to Extend, and display 3 (the TV) to Duplicate (or 'disconnect' it via Settings). When gaming, Set all 3 displays to Duplicate (and optionally, turn off your monitors, or 'disconnect' them via Settings).
It may be a pain switching between these modes every time though. DisplayFusion is a good solution for this, it lets you have profiles for different monitor configurations, you can even switch between them with desktop shortcuts or keyboard shortcut keys. It's paid software, though maybe there are some free alternatives.
Not who you replied to, and in my case it's for multi-monitor use not ultrawide but I absolutely love DisplayFusion for managing windows desktop.
It's not a free tool but it does have a 30 day free license (and I 100% do not regret purchasing it, honestly drives me nuts if I have to use a windows PC without it at this point)
Check out DisplayFusion it is worth the money
Windows 11 has this type of feature now so you wont need a 3rd party app, I don't have multiple monitors any longer, replaced them with an ultrawide, so I haven't tested it. I have read that it works pretty well but going to Windows 11 right now isn't for everybody.
When I did have a multi-monitor setup DisplayFusion is what I used.
Sorry to ressurect an old post, but I'm trying do same thing. Came across Display Fusion which allows you to create multiple monitors but also with one monitor you can create functions which allow you to keep a single monitor and rearrange apps how you want. For me I like to have my monitor split in 3 and it seems to work ok. However, this is fine on my personal computer but not on my works one. Looking to do same with a portable app so I don't have to install anything.
