In Australia there's a relatively commonly used app called Emergency+ that gives basic information on when to call 000 (our emergency number) and will also show your coordinates. It's not able to transfer the data automatically, but it makes it easy for the caller to access and read out to the call taker.
Had to take a ride in an ambulance yesterday (it's all sorted now). Along the way the paramedics told me that they're encouraging people to install an app on their smart phones called EMERGENCY + (PLUS). It is free, and on both android google play store and itunes idevices.
It brings up a quick 000, SES and Police Assistance line that also links into a map with latitude and longitude. This is handy if you're in an unknown area in a city, and a potential lifesaver remote (say in the bush). It also has other important contact numbers such as the GP access line and translation services.
Hopefully you will never need it but it's not a bad idea to have it just in case.
One Tip:
If you hand your device to your kids to play with, what I'd suggest is to NOT put the app on the main screen. If you need to launch it in an emergency you can do it manually via "all apps", but leave the shortcut off the screen so child hands can't inadvertently call 000.

I've used this app Wear Network Notifier for some time now which is pretty sweet, notifies you via card if you switch networks (LTE, Wifi, etc).
I am deploying Video webRTC to my own messaging app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=co.getintouch.play this month.
The best part of WebRTC is that it's peer to peer. Once you have exchanged the peer IP/PORT data (via normal non-voip communications) there's nothing you can do to stop it. It's not possible to block WebRTC because it runs on random ports for both clients.
Plus I plan to add peer to peer notifications so that you can chat with people nearby even without internet (using WIFI direct).
Help needed for testing out the video when done. I will be repaying the kindness with $10 Google Play/Amazon gift vouchers

EDIT: I just looked in Watchmaker and Facer and there is NO option to show Network name on a watchface. The only option you can show is WiFi Y/N or the WiFi level. So it looks like the app I linked is your best bet.
I use the notifier app and I love it. Everytime I switch to a new network it gives me a notification.
If you have android, the best all around app for training is kmt pro. It's like $3, but has options like none of the others out there. Like prosigns, abbreviations, and non standard characters if you choose to learn them later. Too many features and modes to list. User interface takes a while to learn but it is a very powerful trainer for android.

Sorry no. The message is definitely encrypted but definitely NOT the metadata (your contacts, who you spoke to , what time you spoke, how long etc)
Imagine yourself as the telephone operator. Your friend A calls you and asks you to connect to B. You do that and you hang up. Now you don't know what they talked about but you definitely know A talked to B.
WhatsApp uses your phone numbers and sends all your phone numbers to it's servers to search for other users. They could use phone number hashing but they don't and they won't.
I tried to recreate a whatsapp like messenger using a hash of phonenumbers as identity and opensource server https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=co.getintouch.play
It's half-complete but that should be better way to do it. After hashing I cannot do a blanker search on who called who.
I use Google Voice as my primary phone number. At home, I have an Obihai analog telephone adapter and it works flawlessly. At work, I have Google voice ring my desktop phone, and that works great too.
As for my cell phone, Google likes to keep Hangouts and Hangouts Dialer on the cutting edge, so if you use it to place or receive voice calls, be prepared for the occasional broken update. It is good to keep FreedomPop Messaging around as a backup, because you will need it for voice calls when Hangouts isn't working.
Kontalk has a weird name and the app doesn't look good. They need to work on improving the UI and maybe changing the name to something that makes sense. Aside from that, it seems promising.
Not a sys admin but I use WebSharing Lite from time to time to move files on and off my phone if i don't have a cable handy. i think their is a paid version but the lite does everything i need.
I'm not sure if it still works, but you if you are willing to install the I2P plugin on your PC, and the I2P app on android, it should connect. There's even an option in BiglyBT for Android's Remote Profile settings to only connect using I2P, but I don't think it shows up until the I2P app is installed.
Note that going through I2P is pretty slow and it takes a while for I2P to warm up on your device.
Edit: If you are using an access code to connect, there's an additional setting to change on your PC, under Options->Connection->Pairing->Optional Attributes->Enable registration of non-public network service addresses
> Is a channel just a chatroom based on a specific topic?
yes
> freenode-connect: Due to the persistent ongoing spam...
this is an informational notice, you can either ignore it or do: /mode yournick -R to disable the message blocking
> Welcome to the freenode Internet relay chat Network
this means you're golden, all the other messages (missing identd, missing hostname) are not important. You could install this identd software on your router (or forward ports), but why bother if it doesn't block you from entering freenode (or the network you want to be in)
> I want to use this on Android, good apps?
IRC has one major drawback, you will miss all messages when you don't have network connectivity. Thus it's not so well suited to use on Android. Recommendations usually circle around running "something IRC" on your "server/VPS" and connect to that using some specialised Android app (example: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.iskrembilen.quasseldroid -- but you need to install and configure Quassel on a server which is accessible from the Internet)
As soon as I got my phone from FreedomPop (Nexus 5), I wiped it and put on the stock/generic ROM. I never once used the FreedomPop ROM they had loaded onto it.
You can then download the FreedomPop Messaging app to have it activate service, view account info, get calls and text working, etc.
Not sure if this has all the features you want (search in its settings to see if you can disable online/last seen and other features). It's Open source, uses end-to-end encryption, looks simple and good.

If you want to know where you are before calling 000, install Emergency+. It will give you your current GPS coordinates, and if possible, convert it to the nearest street address so that you can tell the 000 operator.

The phone towers can't force the phones to give them GPS coordinates - that's not part of the phone system. Anyway, not everyone has a phone with GPS on it, people turn off their GPS to save battery, or they're in an area with weak GPS signal.
May I suggest my app for sharing location with a contact or a group?
No ads, realtime and completely free. I will be opensourcing the client and server in a few months.
Link Me: InTouch Messenger Premium
That's a very good idea, will try that, thanks.
It is a real shame, because morse toad is very, very good and with a couple of feature additions, the author would be able to charge a decent price for a pro version without ads.
I have dropped a bunch of cash on morse related Android apps and in my opinion Toad is one of the best.
My feature request would be a panel/block of non-qwerty buttons (in place of the keyboard, think of 8 scrabble tiles next to each other) that would be randomized to include the current letter that is being learned.
With regard to the other apps I've bought, Koch Morse Trainer Pro is very nice.
Name: InTouch Messenger
Pitch: Quickly share your realtime location for a limited time with your friends and groups.
Road map : I have just integrated SMS so that you can message friends with either SMS or data. Also integrating WebRTC for making video calls.
HI, I have my own startup which focuses on location sharing for limited time with messaging (text, audio/video, SMS)
Typical usecases are parents who want to their children to share their location while on field trips or educations trips, monitor parents's location when they have Alzheimer or in a new location etc.
I got pretty good traction in around 4 months (7000 users) and I plan on adding more features (for example switch messaging from sms to data and vice versa, webrtc video calls etc)
The app is here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=co.getintouch.play It's still in beta and I plan to release in two months the first version.
Do you think I can apply for YC? What do you recommend?
many thanks for this posting.
Hi, I noticed you used whatsapp. Do you mind integrating this with our api? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=co.getintouch.play
We use standard XMPP for communication
Or you could just let me know the details: do you listen for requests on this number?
Can a person be autoregistered on installation?
Can I send the tip to anyone in my contacts once registered?
Do you have any documentation for this please?
HI Guys, I have a similar app that allows you to chat, video calls in the future and share location in real time.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=co.getintouch.play
I am still working on dotting the i's and crossing the t's
Me and my friend use InTouch Messenger to share our real time location. Really good in urban areas when we are catching up for a coffee or anything
We are in to "real time location sharing". Our beta is out at https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=co.getintouch.play
Right now we are in the process of adding peer to peer audio/video communications via WebRTC
You are welcome to install the app and give us a critique
>One star reviews are blanket criticisms that serve no purpose and are just vindictive of some people to do it. For other genuine reasons the user must leave an explanatory comment so that we devs could improve. > >Why the 1 star? The app crashed? You don't like the icons? Doesn't serve your purpose? Are you worried about the permissions? Please speak up rather than voting from anonymity. > >The App does NOT spam, nag you for ratings, NO ads, is free and I spent months building it. I do not ask you to rate it 5 stars or even rate it at all. But if you HAVE to rate it 1 star then it's proper etiquette that you explain why. > >A star rating is like a stranger calling your baby ugly in a crowded public transport without offering reasons

I have a messenger app that gets as close to personal as possible https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=co.getintouch.play
I haven't requested permission to pull your identity because I don't need it (either from FB or even google accounts). The drawback is that you have to select an avatar and type your name which could have been avoided if I had pulled it directly from google account
Crashes just states the device and android OS version. Check screenshots. http://imgur.com/nivwJxB,5I3hlsf
I wish there was a way to communicate and inform the user of the fix but all the information is pretty anonymized.
<strong>InTouch Messenger</strong> FREE
This lets you share your real time location with a specific contact or a group in addition to full blown messenger.
What sets us apart:
So the next time you are catching up with your group and want to share you location for limited time with your group use InTouch!
This is just an "open beta" release so there might be few glitches which has been overlooked.
