You have installed something.
Look for an app your app list that don't have a name. You'll see the size of the app but the name is blank. You'll usually see it at the very last.
On settings search for "display over other apps" and look at the list of apps allowed and see which one that should not have this permission.
Scan your phone with apps like Malwarebytes
When the ad message box show, press the recent apps button and see which app is showing the message.
Install some antivirus program like malwarebytes (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware) or AVG antivirus (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.antivirus)
First thing i'd do is run a scan with malware-bytes (or any decent antivirus)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware
The best thing to do is running a malware check. There should be no cracking sound in the functionality the phone, well at least from thing other than buttons. Find more info on the malware check option here - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware
This isn't MyFitnessPal's fault, it's a malware injection on the phone. If you've had similar issues in the past, you need to run malware and virus scans ASAP.
Malwarebytes: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware
AVG: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.antivirus
https://www.malwarebytes.org/mwb-download/ - download the free version and run it. You have malware, not a legal problem.
ed: sorry, just noticed you said Android. Here's the right link for Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware
You bet. Try this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware&hl=en
I haven't used it on android, but it's my go-to for years for any desktop/laptop computer. That should do the trick.
Sounds like malware, go get Norton or some reputable scanner to check.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware
This is good. Also if it finds something, delete it. I've had no issues with Wattpad so it's probably another app being a bad actor.
> Should I factory reset?
There should be no need. Just grab Malwarebytes from the Play Store and run a scan. You can then uninstall that after it has done its job.
it's because may be you have malware. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.protectstar.spywaredetector
scan your phone with any of this software... always use incognito if you use less secure web page.
I used Malwarebytes to get rid of my ad problem. I believe I installed a wrong currency converter and after that the ads started appearing (even when unlocking my phone). I scanned my phone and it removed one malware, ever since, no more ads.
I've had the same problem and tried many of the tutorials I've found on the internet. The only thing that worked for me was installing Malwarebytes and running it. Hope it helps!
Try using an Anti-Malware Scanner like Malwarebytes. Not every app the scanner finds is malware and may considered a potentially unwanted app, but it should help you narrow down which app is sending these ads.
You probably have some kind of malware on your phone. I opened it on my phone and it was fine.
If you're on Android, download a virus scanner such as malwarebytes and run a scan. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware&hl=en_GB
Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware is the best anti virus software I've ever used. It's free too
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware
I'd never run into this myself before either but recently a friend had a Galaxy S9 that had the same symptoms. I installed Malware Bytes https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware and it found an app that she had installed from the Galaxy Store that was causing all of the ads. Removed that and told her to only install apps from the Play Store.

So far, so good.
no its NOT normal and should never throw audible warnings. Run malwarebytes, download free in playstore and see if it can sniff out something like clickbait or adware.
then uninstall malwarebytes if no issues. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware
ive had samsung for years. if video player was out of date, it would have alerted to update in play store.
Had that issue with my S7, scanned it with malwarebytes which found an app that was doing it.
Try that, can get it from here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware&hl=en_CA
It looks like adware. You can look in your browsers download history (not the downloads app), if there is an entry with cli.sys, then you can see where you get the file. If there isn't an entry, then you have probably an app installed with adware. So check the creations date of the cli.sys and look wich app you have installed around that date to identify the adware. And scan your device with the app Malewarebytes.
Just uninstall programs that you are not using. When you done that, go to Google Playstore and search for Malwarebytes, install it and scan your phone.
Here is a link for the Malwarebytes https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware&hl=en
This^
-Scan you computer with an Anti Virus like Windows Defender.
-Scan you computer for malware with Malware Bytes.
-Check the plugins in FireFox, Chrome and Edge.
-Check for weird programs/toolbars in "Programs and Features" uninstall the program you think, they are not needed. If you are not sure. Upload a screenshot of your "Program and Features"
Check also the computers in your home.
Give your mobile a look for weird apps. Sometimes an Anti Virus works on a smartphone, so you could download an anti virus. After scanning you could delete the app.
*Im not responsible for any harm.
I had this recently. Every time i unlocked my screen there was a different app or ad running, usually a play store link to some crappy app. Sometimes they would just open up when i was in the middle of something... I downloaded and installed malwarebytes from the play store which picked up a trojan and removed it very easily.
Heya. MyFitnessPal has some shitty banner ads at the bottom but nothing like the pop-ups in the screenshot. If you received pop-ups like that you need to run a malware scan on your phone ASAP.
This isn't MyFitnessPal's fault, it's a malware injection on the phone. If you've had similar issues in the past, you need to run malware and virus scans ASAP.
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware
AVG Antivirus: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.antivirus
I have never had pop-ups from them. It really, really looks like you have a malware injection on your phone -- download AVG antivirus and Malwarebytes and run both ASAP!
Malwarebytes: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware
AVG: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.antivirus
Malwarebytes is the state of the art in malware detection. Here you can see they even posted about the latest android threat, Gooligan, on their blog, assuring that their android app would protect your phone.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware&hl=en
Get malware bytes Anti-Malware and do a scan if you can. It's free.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware
Chances are if it's not coming up in a search, it's malware. I had something like that once that showed up on my apps list called 1am or something like that, and it was a random ad injected malware app.
I knew it couldn't be that easy. Maybe there's an app in the Play Store that detects what app you're in and shows it as a notification or something. I've heard good things about Malwarebytes on PCs, maybe this can help?
You should first try scanning your system with the Malwarebytes app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware
Then, I'd recommend scanning again with an antivirus app such as Bitdefender or Avast, even if Malwarebytes does find some stuff. If none of those find any threats, please let me know.
Yes, try out these apps from Google Play: Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Mobile and Lookout since you already said you used Avast Mobile Security.
But from the sounds of it, you probably don't have any. The developer may have just added more ads, but maybe not either. I don't see anything in the recent changelog for it. I don't use that Reddit app though, I only use Sync for Reddit (previously called Reddit Sync) and in the past reddit is fun.
You can look through all your apps installed on your device in the Applications Manager, and see what is running in there too.
I can't guarantee, but I am extremely confident. :) As I said, running anti malware on your phone could at least put your mind at more ease.
What kind of phone? Android, iPhone, Pixel? I suggest searching whichever store you use for Malwarebytes
If you use the play store you can click that link for the play store to find it directly. :)
Please don't forget to upvote if it helps. :) It'll help others with similar/ the same issue get help in the future. I can't recall how many times I've used 6 year old threads to fix something haha.
~Zedd
Ah my bad, i overread that this is about a phone and not a PC.
> Isn’t normal for ads to pop up on every website?
It very isn't. Normal non-intrusive ads that are embedded somewhere on the website may be, but things that pop up are very much not. Especially not inappropriate ones.
And adware is a malicious program on your device that spams you with ads. Which then has nothing to do with the websites you visit anyway.
And malwarebytes has a scanner for Android as well: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware
And afaik you can't install adblockers in Chrome on Android. You would need to use Firefox Browser instead.
The pop-up ad that stated you had a virus was fake is designed to sell you services they'll provide to 'clean' your device. It's very unlikely it's a drive by download malware, those are mostly on unpatched windows but most importantly, the scammers don't need something that sophisticated to scam people.
If you're still worried, you can run Malwarebytes or factory reset your phone (or re-install windows) for piece of mind.
have you ever tried using a malware app to scan your phone? it may be worth a try. I use this one.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware&hl=en\_US&gl=US
Alguns malwares como o Joker não saem fazendo o reset de fábrica, creio que seu celular seja android tente instalar o malwarebytes, desativa a conexão com a internet e tente escanear o sistema.
I'd probably suggest malwarebytes for quick/deep scans on your device. Free version doesn't run on background (so no real-time protection), but it wouldn't impact on your performance or battery either (though, it still optionally warns you when you visit malware/phishing sites).
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware&hl=it
Run this. Unless your mom pissed off a human being who targeted her, is doing zero-day code analysis, or likes to hang out on sites with expired certs and 7 versions behind on updating their PHP servers you should be good.
This likely has nothing to do with chrome. You've installed some app that's opening chrome to display that stuff. Look back at any recent apps you've installed that might be suspicious.
You could try scanning your phone with something like this. Then uninstall it when you're done .
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware&hl=en_AU&gl=US
It's either an app you installed or adware. Try uninstalling any apps that you recently installed, and if it doesn't work, run malwarebytes for android and it should remove any adware
2 or 3 flags is most likely(false positives or the mod in question is recognised as adware, etc) safe most of the time(could also check it with Malwarebytes just to be sure), anything more than 3 you probabaly shouldn't install it
Like an Antivirus? I don't usually use those types of apps, but you could try using Malwarebytes and see if it catches the adware on your phone.
Install Malwarebytes and scan your phone. If any rogue app has been installed it should be detected by the malware scan:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware&hl=pt_BR&gl=US
Install Malwarebytes and do a full scan: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware&hl=pt_BR&gl=US
Is that a virus trying to transform your flawless OP7pro into having a punch hole!?
.
.
.
I don't know but install MalwareBytes just in case.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware
Have you tried turning it off and back on again? (Rebooting) to see if this fixes the issue?
You might also want to run a scan with Malwarebytes on the device to see if there's malware or something on it, which he may have downloaded from a dodgy video on YouTube.
If I remember correctly, there is an app called YouTube Kids, designed especially for 5-8 year olds.
Try Malwarebytes to run a virus scan. If Malwarebytes not installed, download it on the Play Store. Also find out what other app(s) is causing this and uninstall it.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware
Run malwarebytes as a full scan to check for apps and files.
You should strongly install ublock origin to your web browser of consider using an app like adgaurd or adaway which have filter lists of known malware sites.
Uninstall all games. Uninstall most all apps except the ones you're sure of. (Big name)
Disable notification access for your browsers (they spam you sometimes)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware install and run.
https://adguard.com/en/welcome.html Install this it'll stop all malicious sites and advertisement from even loading.
More likely your device has malware. It would be worth running Malwarebytes or similar to find and remove anything: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware&hl=en_CA
Use Malawarebytes to check. Let it scan your device's files for a virus. I used it (and I still do) and it took out Adware like 3 times.
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/malwarebytes-mobile-security/id1327105431
OR
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware
Give this a try. I had a similar incident last week and this fixed it.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware
Wow, it must be malware then, likely from installing APKs from non-trusted sources.
Give Malwarebytes a try: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware
Otherwise, factory resetting is probably less work than rolling your own pi-hole or doing the subnet testing.
Best way to keep your android phone secure is to keep your apps and your OS updated. AV is fairly useless. Don't download any shady things and you should be alright. If you must have one. Malwarebytes seems good and lightweight for your needs. I've also used Avira on PC for years.
If you're using the Samsung browser I'd advise turning on a few security settings.
Block popups.
Warn about malicious sites.
Also install an ad blocker from the Samsung Store.
Now to if you have malware, install this from the Google Play Store.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware
Sounds like you have a virus/rogue app on your phone.
Imgur definitely does not send out advertisements that make sounds and vibrate your phone, the most it does is send you push notifications which you can disable in the app's settings.
I recommend installing Malware Bytes and running a scan to see if it catches something. If that doesn't work check which apps you installed recently that could be doing this, uninstall them one by one until it stops.
Scan it with MalwareBytes for Android.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware&hl=en_US
No need! Just install an anti malware app and everything will be solved, this happened to me about a week ago, coinsidence?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware
Also maybe you need to go to the google ad settings, many ppl show on yt.
Viruses on phones are dangerous almost only if you're phone is rooted. If it is, you can run the Malwarebytes Premium Trial once and get rid of potential threats.
Sometimes, Chrome is doing this thing... Please read this:
https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/3220216?co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid&hl=en
Also, scan your system with the native antivirus scanner, located into the "Phone Manager".
You can also scan your phone with this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware&hl=en
I'd probably go with Malwarebytes - but, then, I'm definitely Old School and know them from their PC product. Still, it has glowing reviews for Android.
You might post an AskReddit and see what the kids are recommending these days = )
Maybe, I know antivirus's are despised in the sub, but run Malwarebytes on your phone and if you want to, can you report back to me with the results?
Ok,
If anyone else has this problem and comes here reading this I have fixed it.
I downloaded malware bytes from the Play store and it found the virus
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware
try installing malware bytes and see what the results come. My phone became faster after running malware bytes, so its worth a shot.
>IOS has a more strict regulation on the AppStore so as a result usually malware is found more on the playstore than the App Store(eg judy)
Which is why you should download an anti-malware program like Malwarebytes.
Besides, I love that the Play Store isn’t as strict as Apple’s App Store. Try finding an emulator or an anti-virus on the App Store. Try finding an app that modifies the system or default apps in any way. Try finding an app that requires a jailbroken device. Try finding a beta or unreleased app. You won’t find any.
>iOS restrict installation of third party apps but android makes it to accessible to side load apps. It’s very easy for a gullible user to accidentally enable side loading on android then install random shit on their device.
Android allows you to download anything you want—iOS doesn’t.
Besides, I doubt someone would “accidentally” enable the option to download apps from unknown sources, ignore the warning, and find some malware to download.
Try running some anti-virus software. You should be fine when it comes to email since you changed your password.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware
That's one I use.
Your uncle is right about the battery life as most "security apps" load crapware which makes your device slower and destroys battery life, if you want a security app get one that you dont have to ask about the legitimacy of. For Example
Hmm I would then download malwarebytes from the app store and run it
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware
Also is it happening when going to a certain website? or opening a certain email? Just trying to narrow down what it is.
try malwarebytes anti-malware, they're generally considered one of the kings of detection and removal in the pc world, and they do have an android app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware
Malwarebytes for Android is certainly worth a try! Playstore: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware
Instructions for Windows: http://www.browserdoktor.de/dns-unlocker/
I own the 32gb version and use it with my nexus 5 regularly to backup and transport/transfer files I dont want on my phone but want quick access to. My PC is running win7 and so far, I have not had any problems with it! (Viruses or otherwise)
If you want to protect from things like that I would reccomend having good malware/virus protection on your PC and also on your device (I use Malwarebytes on my N5 and Norton on my PC). That way, you wont have to worry about it at all!
This is the one I used:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware
Think I found it, it's Malwarebytes(yes I'm bored)
Look through your list of installed applications in the Application Manager and remove anything you never installed or that seems suspicious.
I would also scan your phone with these 2 apps for any malicious content: Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (Android version) and Avast Mobile Security.
You'll probably want to reset your important passwords just in case too after this is figured out or on another device until this problem is gone. Worst case scenario though is that you might have to reset your phone, but I don't think you need to go to that length just yet.
You have a very outdated and vulnerable version of Android too. Though I know it's a Galaxy S2 so it is old anyways. If you could ever through a custom ROM on it such as CyanogenMod, I most definitely would so you'd have a more recent and less vulnerable verison of Android running. The XDA-Developer forums would be perfect for that, if ever interested.
Its not really a virus. The better name would be malware. It is probably some app you have installed. check which apps you have installed that might be the culprit. Maybe try this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware&hl=en and let it scan for malware or other crap and remove the app that it points towards. As for google chrome i would advice you to switch to Kiwi Browser https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kiwibrowser.browser It is a chromium browser but has built in adblocker plus it has chrome addon support so for even better adblocking you can add ublock origin to it by going to the chrome store like you would on your pc chrome. For next time be weary of what kind of apps you install and what kind of stuff you download. Half of the crap on the play store is ad riddled junk so be aware of how you use your phone.

If you want you can disable Chrome so it wont bother you anymore once you use another browser
Since chrome is most likely a system app you cant remove it but you can disable it.

Maybe try Malwarebytes? Worst case, factory reset?

This worked for me
Hi!
Try to do a malware scan with malware bytes (download on phone):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware&hl=en\_US&gl=US
Let malwarebytes fix it for you: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware
Worked everytime for me ;-).
I use Malware Bytes. * Malwarebytes
Your phone probably has adware. Try this
I highly unlikely that it's a virus. Anyways, you could scan your device with MalwareBytes to be sure. If MalwareBytes comes out clean then I'd recommend getting a decent adblocker like AdGuard. If you don't want to pay for AdGuard then you can request a beta testers license that basically gives you a one-year fully functional license (and you can apply for it again).
Regardless, I would always recommend a factory reset first. Yes, it can be a pain but if your device is really infected, would you be okay in knowing that a virus or malware may be potentially stealing your contacts, passwords, bank details etc? Even if it isn't a virus, the performance gain from a factory reset is always worth the effort. Why is it such a "monumental pain" anyways? You do take regular backups of your stuff anyways, don't you? If not then what will you do if your phone gets lost or stolen?
I'd recommend running a scan on something like Malware Bytes, hopefully that will be able to help you stop these ads.
Malwarebytes
Kaspersky
Avast
Try one of those.
Close all open tabs in your browser, then clear the cash. This will delete any temporary data created from sites you have visited or from popup ads.
Download Adguard for Android to block ads.
Just to be safe, download Malwarebytes and AVG and run those to remove anything that might be hiding on your phone.
Run malwarebytes and don't click on untrusted apks
Run a quick malwarebytes scan https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware before you wipe. It may just be an app you have installed.
Use Malwarebytes

You’re probably not being tracked. But because this info may be useful to others, let’s just roll with it for a minute.
It’s much easier to install stalkerware on an Android phone, and far and away the most efficient method for doing so is by having physical access to the phone. If your potential stalker has not been alone with your phone, and you have not clicked suspicious links from them or downloaded files, the odds that they have installed stalkerware on your phone are much, much lower.
Detection steps you can take:
1) Download and run a malware scanner regularly, like Malwarebytes.
2) Check your Google Play Protect settings through the Google Play app and make sure it’s on and has scanned recently. If it’s off, that’s a fairly significant red flag.
3) Under Settings -> Security and Privacy, click on “Device administrators,” and check if any apps with admin privileges are present. Most people will not have one. Stalkerware will often have an innocuous-sounding name.
4) Under Settings -> Accessibility, look for any unfamiliar apps. Again, it will likely be something vague and harmless-sounding, like “System Support” or “Device Diagnostics.” If you see anything, research to find if it’s legit or just uninstall it to be on the safe side.
5) Look at your app list in your settings, and look for any apps that are present but do not have an icon on your Home Screen. If you find any that you do not remember installing, check into them.
Make sure you are using multi-factor authentication everywhere available. Check out password managers.
That said:
You don’t seem to be sincerely scared enough of her to accelerate moving, since you keep saying “meh, I’m moving in a few months, I’m just worried she will track me when I’m gone.” Do not fret overmuch about a hypothetical future situation that hasn’t actually happened. Move out and move on. If she keeps invading your privacy after you’re out, then come back and we’ll dig in (after you file a restraining order.) This post makes it seem like the unhealthy fixation runs two ways.
You can try a full system scan with Malwarebytes or Dr. Web Light because Virus Total Mobile only scans apps:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware&hl=pt_BR&gl=US
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.drweb&hl=pt_BR&gl=US
You can make sure that your mobile is clean by using some other Anti-Virus, Plus you will need to change passwords (just in case there) for apps you are using, so you should change Google password, Facebook.. etc from your computer.
You can use "Avast Antivirus & Security" too: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.avast.android.mobilesecurity
I didn't mention something like Bitdefender because it requires from you to sign in or make an account if you don't have yet. So just in case I avoid them in this situation in case there is a keylogger that logs what I'm typing.
This behavior is typical of Malware. You should do a full scan with an antivirus like Malwarebytes which should detect the malicious app.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware&hl=pt_BR&gl=US
As next someone will say that antivirus is useless for android below are Kaspersk detection statistics in 2021 so you can draw your own conclusions:
https://securelist.com/mobile-malware-evolution-2021/105876/
Scan the phone with MalwareBytes, it's pretty decent at finding malicious things. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware&hl=en\_US&gl=US
You can do a full scan with Malwarebytes which has the ability to detect stalkerware apps:
https://blog.malwarebytes.com/android/2019/06/mobile-stalkerware-a-long-history-of-detection/
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware&hl=pt_BR&gl=US
You said you are using android 5.1.1. You shouldn't be using Paypal on such an old version of Android that hasn't been patched for many years. Anyway, you can do a full scan with an antivirus like Malwarebytes to find out if your device is infected: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware&hl=pt_BR&gl=US
You can also scan all installed apps with Virus Total Mobile although it may generate false positives: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.funnycat.virustotal&hl=pt_BR&gl=US
As they will say that antivirus does not work for Android, below is a link to Kaspersky's statistics detections on mobile devices only in 2021 so that you can draw your own conclusions: https://securelist.com/it-threat-evolution-in-q3-2021-mobile-statistics/105020/
The first thing you need to do is change your Google password. You can also do a full device scan with Malwarebytes which is part of the Coalition Against Stalkerware and is able to detect stalkerware apps installed on the phone:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware&hl=pt_BR&gl=US
Install Malwarebytes and do a full scan:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware&hl=pt_BR&gl=US
You can also scan apps installed with Virus Total Mobile but it is subject to false positives:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.funnycat.virustotal&hl=pt_BR&gl=US
Malwarebytes is able to detect Stalkerware or spyware: https://blog.malwarebytes.com/stalkerware/2019/10/how-to-protect-against-stalkerware-a-murky-but-dangerous-mobile-threat/
You can download Malwarebytes from the Play Store and do a full scan:

If someone else has access to your phone they may have installed a spy app. I suggest a scan with Malwarebytes which is able to detect stalkerware:

In addition to the good suggestions given in the comments below, it is also recommended to install a good antivirus on phones such as Malwarebytes or Dr. Web Light to try to detect and eliminate any harmful activity that is taking place on the devices:

Or use Island and create a separate profile for your personal use on the phone. You can also scan the device with Malwarebytes which will detect any app with tracking or spying function (stalkerware) even though it is hidden in the system:

I'm not really sure if this is a joke or not, but if this is serious:
It's also better if you provide more info:
What phone are you using?
Did you download or install programs/files before this happened?
Does this only occur in the reddit app?
Is there anything else unusual about your phone. e.g strange programs open?
Run Malwarebytes.
Then, if you're not using a VPN, install Blockada.

Doesn't have the specific folder scan, but Malwarebytes is the best I've encountered if that helps :)
Whoa! Slow down a bit there... Get your phone checked right now: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware
A good starting point would be the Malwarebytes app. It has an audit feature that can be used to set up basic hardware security.
You don't need to worry about flashing a new ROM, as you said you were looking for security. A stock Android system will work just fine for you.
For securing your texts, I recommend the signal app. It provides full end-to-end encryption between signal clients, while still allowing you to text non-Signal users. You can also put a password on your text message history.
Finally, get orbot and orfox. While I don't expect censorship to be an issue, it's useful for other stuff, like posting on Reddit from behind a corporate firewall.
Of course, these are only some basic tips. Security is something you learn about and build on over time. Just don't become complacent and assume that you're now immune, because that's a good way to get popped.
try running a anti-malware app.
Have you tried doing a malware scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware&hl=en
Try Malwarebytes to see if it has anything on it. Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware&hl=en
download malwarebytes apk https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware&hl=en
You can scan the device with Malwarebytes to find out if any malware was installed after you were hacked although you probably have been scammed not hacked as commented the other redditor and in that case no malware was installed. I personally use Dr. Web Light to protect my android phones but the free version I use does not contain "URL Filter" that could protect against this type of attack.

Alternatively, install Malware Bytes just to be 100% sure.

Woah wtf? Any phones are not supposed to do that, let alone the Google Pixel. There's definitely a PUA (Potentially Unwanted Application) in your phone. If not that, maybe you're using a third party app for phone calls and communication so the ads are part of their Terms of Service?
Either way, I'm 100% sure that's not the fault of the phone itself.
Download and run this: MalwareBytes or any other antivirus you prefer.
If the antivirus didn't detect anything wrong, look back on your recently downloaded apps that may have the external ads tied with them. Just try to recall when was the first time you started getting ads out of nowhere, and check the most recent app you downloaded till then. Go to the app store and check out the reviews for that app. If you see other users complaining about ads, then uninstall immediately and clean your phone's cache.
After that, be sure to go to your application manager and uninstall any suspicious apps. Also, check out your notifications manager and permissions manager in your settings. You should be able to see which apps you would want to stop giving notifications and unwanted access to your phone's system (phone calls, messages, file manager, gallery, etc.)
Pro tip: when downloading a game/app, NEVER allow access to your gallery or files unless the app actually needs it to function. They may make it seem like it's necessary but most of the time they're not. They just use the permission so they can store ads in your gallery or gain access to your info.
Have you tried, say Malwarebytes? Simple answer, I know.... But you'd be surprised what that app can find!
Use Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for Mobile. This will automatically block any malicious text messages and you can block any numbers from sending you texts as well if it is simply spam. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is worth installing just to do an occasional scan. It's great on Windows, too.
