Fellow designer here - thanks for sharing your design I like how you've simplified a lot of the elements and included a LCS schedule but to be honest this feels more like a reskin with the website textures than a new design. I write this to push you to do better, come up with new layout and possibly new elements altogether like the LCS schedule. The sky is the limit when you're doing self work and I think it'd be a better exercise to approach it from a blank slate. Feel free to respond I'd be happy to brainstorm some ideas.

I work on creating genetic algorithms that can self improve and start random bitShare based companies around the world. The ones that do succeed get to transfer a bit of the funds to me, and to further promote the other companies, but mainly the investors get most of the profits.

Recently, one of the companies started exhibiting strange behaviour, spent a lot on seemingly wasteful purposes. Since it's already automated, we couldn't do a lot to change the course of action, but it freaking bought land in Nicaragua and opened up a server farm there. It's making money somehow, profiting, but there's not a single person that can investigate it further. Only communication with the company is via investing in it, or using it's services.

Anyway all this is a lie and I just wanted to write a scenario where the technological singularity would be unraveling, using present technology.

Worked with leather my whole life and the "grades" you've referenced are probably the biggest myth perpetrated on consumers in my industry. The tannery where a leather is made has much more to do with quality than "full grain or top grain"...and Genuine is used by some quality manufacturers (Red Wing Heritage is one) to describe really good "full grain leather" and you can also buy really junky full grain, if you're not careful.

She is aware of her behaviors and yet can't stop. That's some real mental illness, and the fact that she's probably going to be let go, that's the scariest part. My mother tried to tell me that this random gynecologist with no virology training and no background in vaccine development was qualified to speak out against the vaccine because it "rewrites your DNA" simply because she saw it online. Otherkin is a weird concept that has a bit of popularity on Tumblr. The idea behind it is that the people who claim to be, say "wolfkin", "dragonkin" or whatever possess the souls of whichever animal (or even fictional character or god) and reside within human bodies. A typical otherkin poster might say they have sort of "phantom limb" sensations with perceived tails or wings or what have you.

Otherkin are controversial. The people that believe them tend to presume either that:

A) They really are (Marvel) Loki's soul in a human female's body.

B) They have dissociative identity disorder.

Now I'll admit I'm more on the second disposition, they're just doing this for fun, attention and to feel special in the infinite expanse of the internet where any one individual often has little to no worth. Just look at what "kintypes" they usually are. "Wolfkin", "Owlkin", "Centaurkin", no one is ever "snailkin" or "chickenkin". They always are something that's cool or special, which reeks of choice.

The reality though is that the volunteer work of these people is often a sham. I'm not speaking from personal experience, but a while ago there was a redditor who really laid into this, explaining how the 'volunteers' would build walls during the day, then at night actual construction workers quickly tear down their shoddy work and put a real wall in its place, just to create the illusion that the 'volunteers' were contributing.

His/her point was that unless if you've got actual skills to contribute (doctor, teacher, engineer) and stay there for an extended period (half a year or more) you'd help way more if you just stayed home and wired the money over. Otherwise you're really just a tourist in a special "feel good about yourself by helping the poor and destitute"-amusement ride.

Though I guess if the people there are making money of it, it's still helping the locals.

Google Scholar seems to be mostly driven by the passion of one man.

I used this guy's advice to wake up earlier using my computer's login password. About two weeks into my password change I started getting up between 5-5:30 every morning. I am not a morning person so my wife was shocked...SHOCKED I tell you. Also, this was accomplished with no alarm clock. I just naturally woke up. Kind of crazy really.

I used the password for a month before changing it to something else. It worked for about 4 months and stopped working after some holiday travel and the flu threw a wrench into the works. I'm starting it again today. I LOVED waking up between 5-5:30 every morning and getting a couple hours of writing in before my 2-year-old woke up.

I was once like you. I had a dream to be an illustrator but decided to go with the more lucrative route of nursing. I'M SO GLAD I DID. My artist friends had a lot more fun than I did in college but now they are living paycheck to paycheck bagging groceries and stocking shelves. They are just one car accident or broken arm or appendicitis or unplanned pregnancy away from screwing their lives over.

I work 12-hour shifts 3 days a week and have the rest of the week to do whatever I want, including using the internet to teach myself art for free while everyone else is in massive debt for it. Saving money is a cinch and I have plans to travel in a few months. Sometimes I schedule myself to have 5 or 6 days off without needing to use any paid time off at all. It's like I'm having mini-vacations from my job all the time and it's amazing.

One thing that artists don't realize is that you are essentially running a small business. A lot of art graduates think that they can get by with having a strong portfolio but that is only half of the battle. Do you have any business acumen? The ones who have a better chance at being successful artists are the ones who know how to pitch their skills and sell themselves and manage their resources. It's naive to think that work will just come your way just because you can "draw good." You need an entrepreneurial spirit to actually take your career off the ground as an artist.

As clever as this is, I think your basic objection -- that they "copied' your content without permission -- is totally off base. They had no legal or ethical obligation to ask permission. Like Twitter and other UGC services, Tumblr gets a broad nonexclusive content license from you for anything you post on Tumblr, and it also gets from you the right to give that license (sublicense) to third parties who develop services based on the content. As you can see, pretty much anyone out there in the media has broad rights to display what you put on Tumblr so long as they follow the terms of the API agreement, because you gave those rights to Tumblr and you gave Tumblr the rights to give others those rights.

Also, in-line linking without permission is totally standard on the internet. Notice how every news site anywhere embeds youtube videos and tweets all over the place? Yeah, maybe sometimes they ask, but they don't have to. If you don't want your stuff linked to, don't put it online.

Also, if you are embedding someone's content, obviously check back for dickbutt, because that's the price of showing content you don't control.

Another example from yesterday. Car in Lugansk didn't stop at a separatist roadblock and was shot at. The driver was killed, the passenger -- in coma, two passerby women were injured. NTV and Russian press reported that they were soldiers from the Right Sector, who tried to break through the roadblock, killed two women running over them, and only then were shot by "people's militia". People checked that story -- turns out the killed guy actually supported separatists, and didn't stop at the roadblock just because he was drunk. NTV is not a news source, it's just pure propaganda.

I'm assuming this is on tumblr? It's become a bit of an epidemic over there. This kind of assholery just kind of keeps turning up, unfortunately - pretty much every identity under the acronym gets hit with it atvarious points.

The majority of people like that aren't going to listen to reason or common sense, unfortunately. The best thing you can do is what you're doing already - avoid them. Use the block function very liberally, and you can get things like tumblr savior that will automatically hide any posts with certain words/phrases in. If you haven't turned anonymous messages off, do it - a lot of them are cowards (as many bullies are) and won't send the horrible stuff if they can't do it anonymously. (If this isn't on tumblr, see if there are similar blocking opportunities available.) You could also consider moving to a new blog if that's possible, and being careful to keep stuff out of tags they might be going through.

Things like death threats you can report to tumblr (if you're on a different site, they probably have a similar policy and reporting process).

I believe this is done by a number of other social networks / websites aswell, Google currently links to the Samaritans, and Tumblr has it's own little PSA. Although they don't try and predict as much as simply react to certain searches that way.

I'm sure there's others aswell; but I think it's a reasonable thing. I think arguments that take it further than such warnings start to make me uncomfortable on a number of levels though, and it feels a little like a band-aid over a wound.

I just genuinely wouldn't trust facebook as far as I could throw them. Deleting my account was the best thing I've done in years.

There's a woman who writes about Chinese privilege in Singapore which is described as very much akin to white privilege in the US.

In China there's a related term "Han chauvinism" (大汉族主义) to describe something like Han privilege and the idea that it should exist. This was original a criticism and in many cases still is. But there are plenty of people (see the 汉服 movement) who have a sense of superiority. This would definitely fit in to the idea of Han supremacy, though not with the same sort of militarism of a lot of white supremacy movements.

There's no question that Han enjoy greater benefits than other ethnic groups. I would say that could be called Han privilege in the same sense of white privilege in the West. Uyghurs (to name one example) have a reputation of being criminals, which leads them to have difficulty finding jobs in areas where they're the minority, which leads them to be more likely to turn to other means of making money.

How long have you been in China?

As a side note: There are a lot of people who are Han who might not look Han to you depending on where you live in China. In Shanghai we have a lot of people from Sichuan who still identify as Han but don't look like local Shanghainese. That would be even more striking if you're in a place like Beijing.

I don't have the source on me at the moment, but there was good reason for them to say a quake wouldn't happen (by the way, my understanding was that they said a quake was extremely unlikely, which is not the same thing as "won't happen" but sounds the same to the public.) Apparently there was a dude going around claiming that an earthquake was imminent (I think on the scale of days or weeks or something). This prediction was causing a panic, and of course we can't actually predict earthquakes that accurately so this guy was full of shit. The scientists were told to basically reassure the public that an earthquake that soon was very unlikely, and I believe one of them misspoke and used language that a layperson may have interpreted to mean that an earthquake was not going to happen in the next few days, period. The resulting loss of life was tragic, but it was in no way the scientists' fault; the expected danger of the panic was worse than of the earthquake.

This is the correct answer :) Assuming you have a desire to find common interests, there are loads of country bands that are just as much rock bands so if you love something with a little bit more "kick" and she only likes stuff that has a little more "twang", find music that has both!

For years I thought I hated country music aside from a few timeless Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson tunes. Turns out I only thought I hated country music as a genre because I had mainly just heard one particular type of country music--boring radio country pop. I was always more of a rock fan but if all I'd ever heard of rock was Jack Johnson and Maroon 5 I'd have thought I hated rock too!

I think it can be hard to get into different kinds of music because you may have negative associations with certain aspects of it and other parts are just unfamiliar so they don't have any positive associations. It's like learning another language and finding what you like.

At some point I'd been listening to some Old 97's and Supersuckers and I had an older Wilco album and realized that hey...these rock bands are also a bit country. Stuff like Fallout: New Vegas gave me good associations with some of the old western music and stations like Bootliquor just added to the mix. Now I still don't really like pop country but not because it's country, but because (to me) it's boring and unoriginal and overproduced. That's still a bias I haven't been able to get past and I dunno if I'll ever be able to find what's good in that really manufactured-sounding music but I guess anything's possible.

This is perfectly normal. Most webshops in Belgium are absolute shit. And many companies don't have an actual shop, just a website. At the start of the first lockdown I got into an argument with a bicycle shop owner who complained about being closed (fair enough) after I had said that if in 2020 you don't have a webshop, your business probably deserves to die.

Yes it was perhaps not a nice thing to say, but there is really no excuse. I have a side business and it took me 2 evening to fabricate a decent webpage on wordpress.com for an extremely low amount per year. It really isn't difficult.

Yet so many people flat out refuse. I've been on 1 website to buy steel, where I had to send a mail to paper catalogue without prices, and then they would make me a quote. Meanwhile there were Dutch websites where every size of every type is available with a shopping basket system, online chat, and a whatsapp chat. Google anything in dutch 'X... kopen' and you will find tons of Dutch shops and almost no Belgian ones.

Any Belgian company who wants my business should have a webshop, or I will ignore them.

It gets a bad rap but, Tumblr is great. In fact, it gets a bad rap by redditors that highlights it's worst parts. (It's the same people who use cuck and SJW as insults, how much do you value their opinion? Love is a way to describe an emotion we feel, without our brains (ignoring animals/aliens) then that emotion actually would not exist.

Circle is a description of a shape. There will be things which match the description without us, but if nobody was around to apply the description then no it (the description as applied by someone) would not exist.

Logic is another thing which is often brought up, but that too is a description of the reality we see, the law of identity: A is A and not B is true because that is all we have observed. So the laws of logic are descriptive not proscriptive.

A different reality might have different laws of logic, we might not be able to conceive of how that would work, but we only have 1 universe, that makes comparisons kinda hard.

The laws/theories of physics again are actually descriptive not proscriptive. We see something happening and describe what happens and call the description a law or a theory (simplifying how this works here but hopefully you get the idea).

Heck I know it's kinda hard to wrap my brain around but there is even an experiment (article at medium.com) which seems to indicate that if there was a being 'outside' the universe then from their perspective ... nothing happens, the universe never changes. Time is only happening for beings inside the universe, no time = no change, for the outside observer, nothing happens.
