I wish I was joking mate. Here's a screenshot of my dev console.. I've sent two emails to Google already. It's kind of ridiculous as the free version has already seen 2 updates in the time I've been waiting for Pro to release.
Obligatory Swipe for Facebook link: <strong>Swipe for Facebook</strong>
Currently organizing a way to be able to provide the Pro APK to Pro users. Will be back to edit this comment in a bit.
Edit: Seems the PMing code thing works best. Here's my solution: So I've got maybe 100 codes to spare that I can give away for the Pro Key in the free version of Swipe (the one where you can do an in-app purchase to unlock pro). For previous pro users, if you can find the receipt email when you purchased Swipe Pro and PM me your order number, I'll PM you a code. It should look something like this: GPA.3375-4381-5814-78494
Edit 2: Okay, it's like 1:30 AM here in Thailand now. Going to have to go to bed soon. Will just do my last inbox check and will be back to PM those codes in the morning!
You can use 3rd party Facebook apps. Try Swipe for Facebook - very data and permissions friendly, and chat works through it too, negates the need for Messenger.
You could also use Swipe for Facebook, I didn't get any of the battery drain and I could check my messages in the app.
I use swipe for facebook which is a wrapper of the browser site. It feels like an official app if you are just into basic facebook stuff.
Unfortunately, Facebook is now actively blocking private messaging in the mobile web version. Nowadays to get full functionality you need to either:
use the Facebook / Facebook Lite app in conjunction with the Messenger app
request the desktop version of the site
use a wrapper app that covers both social and messaging aspects (like Swipe or Metal)
There are great alternative clients for the Messenger protocol. On Android you have Swipe and Metal, both great Facebook apps that also cover messaging. iOS should have something similar, too.
if anybody's on Android and encountering this issue, check out Swipe for Facebook. it's basically a wrapper for the mobile website that makes it a lot easier to navigate and you don't have to deal with Messenger. the dev is a Redditor, as well.
there's your problem: you're using every trashy app from Facebook that are causing havoc to your phone. uninstall Facebook (completely or disable FB related packages) and Messenger and use these alternatives:
I just use Swipe, which is a nice wrapper around the mobile site with better responsiveness, push notification support, etc.
unfortunately i can't relate as i don't use the facebook app or an s7, but i recommend swipe for facebook as an alternative
Give Swipe for Facebook a try. I have a couple or three different workarounds under the "Messaging Client" setting that helps prevent exactly this.
I noticed a huge improvement when I switched to Swipe for Facebook. The official Facebook app is a notoriously bad battery draining resource hog. I uninstalled the official app months ago and never looked back.
Swipe for Facebook (free)
Hello sir. Have you had a chance to listen to the word and gospel of our Lord and savior, Swipe for Facebook?
You may want to delete the official facebook app(s) to save your battery life, try the app Swipe instead.
The official apps eat up a surprising amount of processing power and battery life (90% sure it's spying related) all in the background, you don't even need to open it up.
Use Swipe Pro, for Facebook. Check it out. There's also a pro version.
I have used many custom Roms and kernels in the past, and that definitely helped, but right now I am actually on stock DP5. I do have Snapchat installed, and instead of the official Facebook app I use Swipe for Facebook. Other than that I don't really do anything else to keep it running smooth, I guess I just got lucky.
Swipe for Facebook is absolutely fantastic. Pro version here.
Use Swipe for Facebook to access facebook. It's a wrapper for the mobile site and is designed well, handles notifications and doesn't use system resources that much. In the settings for the app you can select your messenger client to be the messenger app. Try it out, it's free for most features. I purchase pro tho cause the dev is awesome and constantly updates with new features!
Swipe for Facebook, as already suggested or FB Lite
If you want, try out the Swipe for Facebook app. Very active developer. Battery life is amazing with it, and its very liteweight.
You might like it, you might not. See if it works better for you.
FB is asking too much permissions and is using too much data.
It makes me uninstall it, now I use SWIPE
MInus is you lost notifications, we can easely deal with it :)
Cool! Thanks for the recommendation.
I haven't installed it yet because Swipe's Google Play description mentions exactly what I needed:
That site is an even more stripped down version of the Facebook mobile site that retains the ability to send private messages!!!
I use swipe for Facebook and it's awesome. It's almost like the Facebook website, but in app form and you don't have all of the stock Facebook bloat.
Instead of Facebook's official app, have you tried Swipe for Facebook? It's an unofficial wrapper app for Facebook that's so much more efficient than the official one. It's incredible.
I use Swipe and Messenger lite (not available in the Play Store) apps for my Facebook needs. Your battery, wakelocks and memory will thank you.
Messenger Lite apkmirror.ccom
You can use the ****book.com/?sk=h_chr bookmark for desktop, and if you have Android, Swipe for Facebook opens most recent by default, I believe, for mobile.
Most of them don't do much. Greenify will force stop apps once you stop using them so they won't use much background memory, but most apps don't use enough background RAM to drain your battery. I used it for a while and it really didn't have much of an impact, even sometimes seemed like I got worse battery life.
I'd advise using alternatives to some social network apps that use less memory then official apps. Like using Swipe Pro rather than the official Facebook app which is a huge battery hog.
Package disabler apps are good too to stop apps you don't even use from turning on in the background and using memory for no reason. I personally use EZ Package Disabler as it's the best designed of them all. This is only if you have a Samsung phone.
EZ Package Disabler: [link]
Is this the app you're referring to?
Regardless, I'll keep the suggestion in mind. It sounds like a good idea.
Have you tried Swipe for Facebook? The DEV updates it a couple times a week and has pledged to work around this messenger nonsense every time it happens.
when you open the app to have a level of security like a pin or pattern unlock.
hand your phone to someone, dont want them going through your reddit have the app password protected.
swipe for facebook has the option, stops people going into my facebook account if they're on my phone, just wondering if something similar would be implemented with slide
Honestly, I'd recommend just deleting the official app and going with Swipe. Offers way more control over sync frequency, looks better than the official app, and doesn't spy on you. Honestly, at this point, it's pretty much better than the actual FB app in every way.
I've never experienced issues as drastic as what you're describing, but FB has always been a major battery drain for me across multiple devices. I recently downloaded Swipe for Facebook and haven't looked back.
I recommend switching to a 3rd party app like Swipe for Facebook. Older UI, but its much cleaner than the official app and not as memory-intensive. It doesn't force you to get the messenger app too, since the message function is preserved. Plus, its free.
try Swipe for Facebook and Messenger Lite instead.
Ooo, and Tinfoil is available on F-Droid too, even better.
I've been using Swipe for Facebook for a while now, because it has some messenger support and a dark theme, but I'm jumping ship now.
No more pro codes, unfortunately. But please do try the free version here: [link]
Outside of Quiet Hours and a few extra UI customization options, there are practically no differences functionally, so you get the complete experience off the bat! :)
So much this!
That developer has been so responsive, active and I never felt like the ads were as forced as they were on Slide, Sync or others I've used.
I paid for this app to support the dev. I gladly support active devs in this community who update regularly.
See Swipe for Facebook
How about notifications from messages? I use Swipe which is a Facebook Lite app which basically is a wrapper for the desktop version. But every time I try and use a different messenger I don't ever get the Notifications properly.
nu numai pe ios si e un cacat de interfata. Daca stiti alternative strict pt mesagerie sa ziceti.
Exemplu: Swipe in loc de app Facebook e giugiuc [link]
I replaced the Facebook app with something called Swipe. I believe the developer shared it on r/Android early on, and that's how I found it. I liked it enough that I went on to buy the pro version. It's the best non-official Facebook app I've found. It doesn't quite have the fit/finish of the normal app, but it's about eight tenths of the way there.
Just wanted to add links plus some other stuff.
Swipe for Facebook
If you have issues with an "install messenger" pop-up, go into Settings and under "Messaging Client", select the option that says "Desktop User Agent".
Feel free to ask any questions here or on r/swipeforfacebook :)
Swipe for Facebook is basically a wrapper for Facebook that uses less battery than Facebook app. You can also just use the messenger as you would on the website instead of having to use Facebook Messenger app.
There are a few apps that will let you use messages through the browser. Not as nice as the Messenger app but this is what I use so I don't have to install Messenger, and it's a little nicer than mbasic (though that's a good tip too): [link]
I've personally found Swipe to be much faster and lighter than Facebook, as the official Facebook app is bloated to incredible amounts. If you're looking for a light, fast, and lots of customization features, then Swipe is right for you.
There is also a free version, so you can always try that out first to see if it's right for you. Link: [link]
I've never used this app myself since I don't use Facebook, but I've seen nothing but praise for it on /r/Android so you might want to give Swipe for Facebook a try.
Swipe for Facebook is my app of choice. Lightweight, quick and the developer is pretty responsive too.
I have disabled the Facebook app and have been using Swipe Pro and love it. Facebook is a known battery drainer.
I recently switched to Swipe for Facebook--it's a wrapper app but honestly I like it even better than the official app. It has a lot of great options--give it a shot!
Check out Swipe for Facebook - it's got fantastic UX and beautiful UI, while maintaining all the bells and whistles of the official app. Lightweight (2.5 MB), customizable (dark themes), and highly battery efficient (~5-10x more than the official app). And yes, you can even swipe between tabs. It's still new, but it's so much better than the other wrapper style apps.
Try Swipe instead. I've never installed any of the Facebook apps and this or other reskinned versions of facebook have always done a good enough job for what I need. It allows you to view and send messages like the mobile site used to.
It's not Whatsapp for sure. Pretty sure (like 99% sure) it's garbage messenger.
If you want, try out an alt app like swipe for facebook, it's the main fb app and has messenger in it. See if it re-installs it. Also try not to download thise stickers and emojis I know FB chat has.
Swipe is definitely the best Facebook alternative I've found, doesn't use up a ton of my phone's memory or anything like that and I can still check Facebook easier than using a web browser
If you for some reason want to use Facebook, I would recommend Swipe for Facebook available for Android. It is a web page wrapper that uses less resources and does not murder your battery.
I'd recommend a nice wrap, instead. Messenger is just as bad as the main FB app.
I use Swipe for Facebook and really like it.
You can try Swipe for Facebook, it's a wrapper for the facebook mobile site but lets you access messages (even in multiple ways). It also has many features added and the developer is a great one and it's very active! I bought the Pro version and haven't regret it, it's absolutely worth it.
Swipe is an app you can use instead of Facebook. It has a ton of settings so you can choose how often you get status updates (or you can turn off all updates). There's also a lot of features of changing the look of the app. I personally think it displays pictures weird but you'll have to try it to see what I'm talking about.
Still, I think it's totally worth switching to because of the battery saving.
I personally use Swipe for Facebook, and Messenger Lite for any Messenger needs. It's seemingly better, the same app, all without the bloat^^besides ^^stickers
~~Edit: Apologies if the Messenger Lite link isn't the right one. For some reason, my school has APK Mirror blocked but not Reddit~~
Edit 2: I fixed the link for Messenger Lite
If you are on Android, get an app called Swipe For Facebook
You get to keep all functions of Facebook in a sleek thin package that uses very little to no resources when the app is closed, doesn't send location and such to Facebook when not in use, you can still upload pics, still make posts, you can even theme it to make everything pitch black so its better for battery life and your eyes (or what ever way you want), and you do not have to have the messaging app as well as the Facebook app. Been using it since it came out, paid for the paid version - that's how much I like it.
Hey man, that'll do. Thanks for writing in and for your continued support in Swipe. It's great to be back, but I'm so sorry for all this confusion and hassle. Here's what you gotta do.
Here's the code: 9PGF6U9UCM38A2ERN3W5KLP
Hope that helps. Enjoy! :)
Yeah I don't like the icon at all... Maybe you could use something simpler... like the facebook "like" icon
Give the free version a shot here: [link]
I totally love you too!
Please do try the free version here: [link]
Melhor do que o Facebook Lite,na minha opinião, é o Swipe. Rápido, econômico, leve e o hatch mais vendido em 2016.
Edit: link [link]
They did a great job, now only if they did the same thing to the main Facebook app but for now we can enjoy Swipe for Facebook, there is also a pro version of Swipe for Facebook which is a seperate app and not just an unlocker for the free version
Absolutely no problem mate. I totally understand. You can however try the free version at: [link]
No functional limits. It's as good as the Pro version, aside from the notification filtering, quiet hours, and themes. :)
You can't compare iOS apps battery usage with Android and then blame the OS. The apps may look the same to you but they're actually completely different apps, coded in different languages by different teams and work differently on the inside.
Unfortunately some companies like Facebook are better at making iOS apps, which is why you'll find that iOS apps can be a lot more polished. It has nothing to do with the OS, but with companies favoring iOS more than Android.
Anyway, I'd recommend trying out an alternative Facebook client on Android, such as Swipe.
Which app can you not seem to find? Facebook Messenger? Or Swipe for Facebook, because if it's Swipe, I linked it in my earlier comment (click where it says: Swipe for Facebook).
Edit: Here: [link]
Why are you wiping your cache daily? That's most likely what's causing your issue.
Also uninstall Facebook and use something like Swipe for Facebook. The Facebook app is known to impact battery and performance.
@/u/CA53Y Or even better, use a Facebook web wrapper app. Swipe for Facebook is relatively young, but has become popular very quickly. It looks and feels like the official app. (Just ignore my language setting )
There's also a Pro version which offers additional options and themes.
Dev for <strong>Swipe for Facebook</strong> here. Give it a try! Always open for questions here, r/swipeforfacebook and via feedback through the app. :)
Yep that's it.
Paid version here.
If you still want facebook on your phone, you can always use one of the alternative web wrapper apps. I personally use Swipe, and it's an alright substitute. It takes some getting used to, but I'll deal if it gives me back my battery life.
There are a few apps that will let you use messages through the browser. Not as nice as the Messenger app but this is what I use so I don't have to install Messenger: [link]
If it gets unbearable, I recommend trying Swipe for Facebook. Pro version is currently 50% off during holiday season.
If you'd still like to use Facebook you can do so using Chrome or this app, I would recommend Chrome unless you don't like using more data then you need to.
Check out Swipe for Facebook. I haven't used it much, but it's supposed to be lighter and I've heard good things.
If you want an alternative to the facebook app, Swipe for Facebook is really good. In addition to the lack of privacy concerns, the interface (in my opinion) is far better, and the developers are very active and respond quickly to any issues.
If you're browsing Facebook through a browser, Swipe and/ or Metal deliver a fantastic experience. I don't know about metal but swipe also has messenger access.
Try Swipe for Facebook - very data and permissions friendly, and chat works through it too, negates the need for Messenger.
Everytime I use Facebook I always end up on uninstalling eventually and then using one of the many Facebook light apps available on the Play Store. Swipe was my go-to until recently but I just finally started using Simple because I like the way it integrates the messaging into the app. You're still able to see when the people you're talking to are online.
If you're on Android, a popular app is Swipe. It's free, but you can pay a dollar or two to upgrade, which unlocks more colour themes, disables ads, and a few other minor tweaks
