I have this TV Remote app, you'd just get within reasonable vicinity of a TV, put in minor info like Brand (Which is easily seen from the front typically) and it would start scanning for the model #'s to function. Once it found them, you'd have full access to the TV; Volume, Settings, Channels, everything. The whole process of hijacking the remote took about 30 seconds at best.
THAT would be a hilarious yet effective way to get back at them. Have people download those remote apps and then travel around to these unwatched screens, change them to a competitor, then leave.
if the Majority of CNN's ratings come from those unwatched screens... can you imagine the hit they'd take in viewership if those were hijacked.
You can also pretty easily convert an old smartphone into security cam. I used Alfred when I needed it and can recommend it. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ivuu
You can filter by style, room, country, colour, metro area, budget and popularity.
You can also save photos to collections, where they are organised and you can come back to them.
It is designed for real life houses, but it’s useful for The Sims.
It might be this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=tv.peel.app&hl=en
It installed itself on my phone a few days ago and I got rid of it because it kept showing up in annoying places and I never used it. It seems to have good reviews though, so maybe give it a shot if you need it.
If you have Android, there is ThermoStats: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jaredharen.harvest&hl=en_US
Can you try with this app ?
NeedSomeMilk is right, cloud stream is the was to go, you will get the video or at least see him trying to catch your phone. It also have a lock option to prevent him to stop the app.
Wow that's nice. Didn't know so many apps exist for this.
There is this guy that is free, you install it on both phones, and it alert you when motion happened and can save the video during the event.
Been using this one on my GS5 remote for over a year now and it runs great. Set up is simple and connects to almost anything that requires an ir blaster. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tekoia.sure.activities
This is a pretty decent IP camera client. They've got a big list of supported cameras, and I got mine working with it even though it wasn't on the list. There's also a free version.
Sure Remote is also a good one, but has ads on the free version. I just started using it for my receiver because my spawn decided to lose the remote and I've not had any issues with the app.
I use Alfred https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ivuu With some of my old Phones, got 3 setup to keep an eye when were not at home. Has push notifications when something happens so i dont have to watch it all the time. Edit: it also supports remote speech so you can tell your dog to relax :)
You could probably use the App SURE universal remote. This thing is awesome. I use it for everything in my house. Toshiba TV, LG TV, Yamaha Receiver, JVC boombox from like 1995. This thing works on everything I ever tried to use it on, usually the first attempt when pairing to a device. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tekoia.sure.activities&hl=en_US
I used ImperiHome (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.imperihome.lite&hl=en) with my old VeraLite but I've moved onto Smartthings.
Apparently support has been ready for several months but Samsung has been dragging their heals with the approval process. ImperiHome is asking for users to help raise awareness with Samsung by retweeting their post (https://twitter.com/ImperiHome/status/902582035079933952)
ImperiHome is a great mature and highly customizable app. which could fill in the gaps left behind by the Smartthings app.
If you'd like to see Smartthings support for ImperiHome please consider helping by retweeting.
Sure, I've been using it for a bit and it seems to be pretty good. It's definitely better than Peel at this point.
Alfred. No root needed, can turn off screen through the app. I use my old phones as cameras and my current phone as the viewer.
It also is motion detection capable, and auto saves events so you don't have to go through hours of footage to find something that happened
If you have an android device, I highly recommend grabbing tinyCam Monitor. I can still view all my devices despite my Wyze device list being empty at the moment.
I used Sure for a bit a while back. Looks like they seriously updated the app since then, though, so I can't 100% recommend it.
Find or borrow an old Android smartphone, head to the Google Play store, and download/install this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ivuu&hl=en_GB
Then find a way to conceal it near your problem spot and set it to record. Your current phone can act as a viewer. Set it to record motion events and hopefully, you'll bag your thief.
I haven't done this with a phone, but I have a very cheap and very crappy android tablet that I used to use Alfred on and it never got any hotter than normal
> So basically I need to watch the app all day
Shameless plug, but if you have an Android phone you'd like my app. It includes a widget so you can always see the temps on your home screen.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jaredharen.harvest
EDIT: typo
good cheap IP security cam as well. TinyCam will get you up an running with local/network video block recording, remote picture/LED/microphone/speaker/video capabilities, and SMS/email alerts with video/picture attachments if motion is detected. i have an old 2013 Moto G i put hidden in my bookshelf facing the front door and window while away for a weekend. you gotta do some work and setup a local server on your home PC for every feature but nothing you can't figure out as a sunday morning project.
There have been a TON of posts about this. It's an app called <strong>Peel Smart Remote</strong> - it allows you to use your phone as a remote control for your TV (once you set it up which should only take 2 minutes).
You can uninstall the app, or go into the app's settings and disable the widget (floating button on the lock screen).
While not perfect it works pretty good. I put my note 2 on a charger and in a cup. It just needs to connect to wifi and have the app installed. I also have it one the note 4 and that one works as a receiver. It notifies me on movement and allows some operations like switch cams, send audio and turn on flash and a 'nightvision' mode. This is the app I use.
>It's continually insisting that it can't communicate with one of the (very near by) Monoprice motion sensors, yet the sensor is working and triggering events everyday. Other MonoPrice motion sensors work great.
It might just be a bad sensor. I had 2 door sensors that did this (as well as drain batteries very quickly). I returned them and got them replaced, haven't had issues since.
>Switching from Away mode to Home mode via the Android app seems unreliable, and I have to do it via the website on my Android device.
Vera's app sucks. I've used it on both IOS and Android, and it sucks in both places. On Android, I use Imperhome. The Pro (full) version costs a few bucks, but as much as I use it, it's totally worth it. For switching modes, I use the House Modes Plugin (on the Vera side), then I created scenes (Switch to Home, Switch to Away), and I use Imperihome to trigger the scenes. Imperhome also works with NFC tags, which is pretty awesome.
Something else that might help...
I created a scene to reboot my Vera (using this Luup code), and I've found that rebooting it every once in a while helps. I also do a full Heal/Repair once in a while, especially if I've moved some things around.
Overall, though, UI7 isn't all that great. I got my Vera like a week after UI7 came out, but from what I've heard, UI5 was great. UI7 has been improved a LOT since it came out, though, so if you're liking it, I'd try to stick it out. Hope this helps at least a little.
If you have an old phone or tablet there is a free program called Alfred Security Camera. I use it I has been VERY helpful. I just put the phone in my front window in plain sight. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ivuu&hl=en_US&gl=US
I would deffinitely tell the authorities about this threat in the courtroom, and about it playing on your mind and causing concern now that you have a young child with him being out soon (esp with his past violence when you were pregnant) - maybe they can set out some preventative measures to ensure your safety and put your mind at ease.
Edit/Update: You should also invest in some security surveillance like Ring - or if that's too expensive, there are some surveillance apps on the google play store that only require you to have an old Android phone (to use as the camera). One that springs to mind is Alfred but there are many others to choose from (not sure about IOS, but I think there would be similar apps).
Maybe even check out r/homedefense for further advice.
If you have any old phones laying around and Wi-Fi connection, there's a free app in the play store called Alfred Security that you might wanna check out. Link below
I used to use Alfred more than a year ago and it worked surprisingly well. It requires a sign in to a Google account by both the camera and viewing device. You are able to view the feed via Android, iOS, and/or browser. The only issue I ever had was the camera would occasionally cycle off but could easily be restarted from the viewing device.
I remember testing out a few similar apps found through a simple playstore search and most worked better than expected. For what it's worth the phone I used as the camera was always connected to wifi and not tested on a mobile data connection.
Mine came with the "Peel Smart Remote" app installed. It works OK for me but apparently newer versions are bad about ads (I haven't updated mine in a long time). Per suggestions below, I tried SURE and it seems to work well. You'll have to know at least the brand of TV you're trying to control, maybe even the model for some.
Hello! I'm a member of a startup called netbeast which has developed an application Yeti - Smart Home Automation. It shows the Philips Hue lights in a grid with an easy access. I think maybe this is what you are looking for.
Here you have the links for Android and iOS.
Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.netbeast.yeti iOS: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/yeti-smart-home/id1190638808?mt=8
Let me know what you think! :D
Here you have the links to the stores: App Stores: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/yeti-smart-home/id1190638808?ls=1&mt=8 PlayStore: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.netbeast.yeti
I use SURE universal remote for TV. I don't use it on daily basis but it seems good so far. So far I have set up one lg and one Philips TV. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tekoia.sure.activities
if you have network attached storage and desktop at home you can turn it into a security camera that can send notifications to you as a text with pictures/video when motion is detected. i have a moto g i got for free ($25 off $20 at best buy) running tinycam pro that records a 4GB block of video to my NAS, and will text me if something triggers the motion. i can then control it with an app on my nexus 6p and view live video with sound, take pictures, turn on the LED, and speak over the speaker.
it's not too much work, i set it up in a morning knowing nothing about the process. The app has tutorials for setting up everything on a PC in the house to run as a server, just required patiently following directions and testing. i really only use it a couple times a year we're away for a weekend since usually someone is home since GF works nights and i work days in one of the safest towns in the country.
I've been using Sure Universal Remote and it seems to do a pretty good job. It has a lot of presets in it already which make it really easy to use. I'm on mobile but here is a link, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tekoia.sure.activities
Most Android smartphones nowadays have a universal remote function. Just download an app like Peel Smart Remote and configure it to the brand of TVs they use.
If you've got an extra android phone, the play store has an app that will act as a surveillance camera. Icon looks like Jeeves the butler, called Home security cam: Alfred. It is less of a hidden cam solution and more of an innocuous hiding in plain sight one.
Everyone else is giving your manufacturer apps.. That shit is stupid.
Peel Smart Remote works with any phone with an ir blaster. It isn't the best, but it has a notification panel widget and it works with all of my stuff (TV, sound bar, cable box, etc.).
Since this is just a one-off thing, no need to spend any money or even get too complex - an app like https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ivuu would work, otherwise just search for timelapse apps - one frame every few seconds would likely be sufficient and not use much space.
No unfortunately it's Android and Google TV only. For iOS the better one I could find was https://apps.apple.com/us/app/ipcams-ip-camera-viewer/id1045600272 but I gave up and went back to my camera's official app. Wish they would make tinycam for ios already. Here's the Google play link if you need: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.alexvas.dvr&hl=en_US&gl=US
Given that kindle is an Android device, you should be able to get an apk and install tiny cam: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.alexvas.dvr&hl=en_US&gl=US
The actual record, motion, etc. logic is probably better handled by an outside service like frigate / HA and not the tablet itself.
It could be using something like Alfred which turns your android device into a security camera. It calls home to a server so there's no need to set up port forwarding on routers and you can connect to it as and when you like.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ivuu&hl=en\_GB&gl=US
Hello!
Thank you for your suggestion and contribution!
Just to understand, do you mean to use this app?
Thank you for your help and attention!
I'm sorry for any inconvenience!
There's an app that will let you use an old phone as a security camera, with some intelligence about what it's recording.
I used the Android version, but it's on the Apple app store as well.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ivuu&gl=US
I personally have a ring set up at my place, the stick up cam (battery version) and a doorbell. Works really well and I like the app. I went with the stick up cam as I can move it around to where I need it/whichever room I leave the puppy to play in.
Whilst I was making my decision on what to go for I used an old smartphone and installed an app called Alfred from the Google play store. It turns any phone into a security camera. Used an old tripod (you can get them for a fiver on eBay) and set it up to watch the pup whilst I had zoom calls.
If you're an Android user, you should check out https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.alexvas.dvr (and the Pro version as well). Many great features and it connects to Wyze cameras without issues or special firmware.
Hey OP if u have an old phone you have an old phone you can use it as a motion detecting cam for free. I'll link the app. It's called Alfred camera, I use it at home and it's awesome for free. Good luck man.
Just repurpose it. MP3 player, gaming device, e-reader, connected to a dumb speaker to make it a smart one. Also turn it into a indoor security camera. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ivuu
I’ve got the Pro version, but the free version has all the same features just ad supported. It’s on sale a few times a year for 50% off or more.
Which phone are you using? We got the HD 8 Plus on sale from Amazon Black Friday for $75, so not bad for a baby monitor.
It’s pretty cool to repurpose your Moto X4 into a motion detecting WiFi home security camera with “Alfred Camera”, the highly rated security cam app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ivuu&hl=en_US
IS THIS A DORM ROOM!? I would def. put a camera/s in my room and/or old phones can be used as a security cam too | https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ivuu&referrer=utm_source%3Dlandingpage%26utm_campaign%3Dlanding
I use an old phone, my new phone and an app called Alfred. As long as you are connected to the internet/WIFI you can connect to it. There are two options. Send a picture when motion is detected or steam video.
Alfred APP;
A decent fan, while you can still get one, or better cooling if you can afford it, cold you can deal with, a hot summer with a baby is miserable. A soft or adjustable light, indirect lamp or something that won't wake your baby when you do your 115th check of the night. I'd recommend something pink or red.
We just used a D-link IP cam as a baby monitor, hooks upto the phones with Tinycam Monitor, you can use it as audio only and have it run in the background. Still working after 6 years :)
Although you cannot manage the WYZE camera's via your ChromeOS, you can view them via TinyCam.
Just add a new camera, brand Wyze Labs, camera model Wyze Cam or Wyze Cam Pan. Protocol: Cloud. Enter your username and password. Done.
If you have multiple camera's, go to the advanced settings and change the channel number.
Oh weird... They definitely have locker shelves in Vekua Carrefour and a number of Nikora stores that I usually go.
Yep scanners are there for high-value items and alcohol as far as I know. I don't think groceries have RFID tags. However, if the bag has aluminum foil shielding, no scanner can detect RFID tagged items inside that bag.
I can totally understand. Never leave valuables at home especially if your rent is not through Airbnb and nice reviews. BTW if you are suspicious of your landlord you can leave some cheap smartphone as a security camera using Alfred app.
I have old tablets that have to be slower than the Fire HD's and I use the Imperihome app which runs very well still after 7 years of use. It offers both device pages or a customizable dashboard with pages. I set my dashboard background color to match the wall paint which works well if you have lighter wall paint. What I really like is that it uses the camera to wake the screen on motion, so it is off until you walk up to it. I will probably looking for better options and tablets in the near future, but if it ain't broke...etc.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.imperihome.lite&hl=en_US
Just to update, while i have tried many apps and combination of apps, some come close to what i want but for a monthly subscription, but the best free option at the moment is to use Alfred Video Surveillance Camera for sending alerts upon motion, at which point i can remotely view the front or rear camera, and then if required track the phones GPS using Google Find My Device. I am still open to suggestions and hopeful to find a better option, but for now, as long it everything keeps working, this is a good combination for free.
I used this one before my tablet got stolen https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ivuu The short time i useit i really like it, check it out and i hope you like it, i had mine at work but i should hide it more.
Try Tinycam. I use it to stream my IP cam when I get alerts.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.alexvas.dvr
If you don't have a static IP you will probably need to set up some kind of dynamic dns service though.
Not sure if you can do that on it but have you tried tinyCam? It's the best app I've used for IP Cameras.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.alexvas.dvr
You get a lot more features with the pro version as well.
According to my research that remote is not capable of controlling a DVD player. But that's not Comcast's responsibility. Can your phone run the Sure app? That's my goto tv remote on the go. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tekoia.sure.activities
SURE (sa fii conectat la internet cand o folosesti, downloadeaza multe remote-uri suplimentare cand adaugi un TV de un anume brand).
Reading the manual, you need to access the menu on the projector first, defeating the purpose of turning it on without the remote. Do you have a Logitech Harmony or a Smartphone with an IR blaster? If so, you can still turn on the projector. If you use the smartphone IR blaster, just download SURE. It has the remote codes for your PRM-30
I don't think this is possible with IFTTT. I believe I did something similar with Yonomi a while back. Give it shot and report back. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.yonomi&hl=en
ImperiHome is an App that can merge together many different systems into a single control interface. I know that it does Lifx, but I don't see TP Link in it's supported list.
Check out the free version of the app before you pay money for the pro version. The free version blocks you from using every square in the grid interface.
If you have an Android phone you can use the Thermostats app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jaredharen.harvest&hl=en_GB
It only keeps a week of data though, but it does receive Push updates from Nest. So every time the temperature changes it'll log a data point.
> MiHome - starting with probably impossible one, but want to ask anyway. Is there any other app which would allow me to control my Xiaomi Philips Smart Bulb? Basically only turning it on or off is what I care about.
I'm not sure what you mean by "Xiaomi Philips Smart Bulb" (it's wither made by Xiaomi or by Philips!), but I think both types of smart bulbs are controllable via IFTTT and Google Assistant ("OK Google, turn on light").
If you have a Xiaomi Yeelight, you can also use Yeti, and there are a few others, but it's not clear if you're using a Yeelight or something else.
Houzz I love this app because it offers to take a photo and then add things like notes and distances on it, and add furniture to see how different items might look in your room or house. It has a wide selection of furniture to purchase, and also inspirational projects to find how to design your home, without the need to hire a designer.
I use Sure universal remote. It is so flipping amazing. Has every code you could imagine. It even has a code for my 5 year old fan with IR and my 20 year old AC unit with IR.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tekoia.sure.activities
Active development and will add any missing functionality if you let them know.
If you have an old Android phone laying around you can use the free Alfred app. It will send you a notification on your personal phone whenever there is movement. Paid version does HD video but I just use free.
Hey! I'm part of a development team who has developed Yeti Smart Home, we support hue lights, so I would really like to know what you think about the app :D
Here you have the links in case you want to try it

Gen 3 pointed at window or door that gets UPS deliveries?
Pets?
Inflatable Christmas decorations outside window on a windy day?
All of these can cause the nest to register motion, if only they had decent reporting so you could figure out what it was thinking... I found this app gives you a decent bit of insight so you can see not just when heat/cool runs but how far your house falls out of band during eco: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jaredharen.harvest
Hah, thanks for the page. /u/hereImIs do you have an Android phone? I made an app that at least might make it easier for you to set the temp, but it is not integrated into an alarm clock. That is certainly an interesting idea.
I wonder if Tasker could help here at all.
I think you might be able to do this with The Yonomi app (I don't yet have a harmony but it is compatible). You can set up "routines" to control multiple devices, light colour/brightness can be set and routines can be triggered by you arriving home, leaving, other options. This should be possible.
If you have an Android phone with an IR blaster (such as Galaxy or G4) you can use this app to control the TV. Otherwise you could also order a Universal Remote.
If you have some old smartphones lying around you can turn them into security cameras. Theres an app WardenCam that's free has 40 hours free trial, then I think it's only 9.99 (could be wrong, it might be cheaper). You just set the phone up and open the app. It will start recording as soon as it sense motion. If your on wifi you can watch in real time, if not it will record. It also does sound, but it's not the greatest unless it's really close. I've found it pretty useful.
Huge? Hardly. Hubs are all $50 (or even free with Wink promotions) to $200.
The nodes are all generic. They're a fixed cost regardless of any system. I don't know what you expect? Switches and outlets and other devices must be UL certified. They're all ~$30-$60 each which is in line with existing switches.
There are plenty of non-iOS home automation control apps like ImperiHome.
After trying several others, I found Alfred. It just works like its supposed to. You login with your google account both on the camera phone and on the viewer phone or tablet, then you can just open the app and see whats going on at any time. I really like the feature where it asks if you want to turn on or off motion detection when you connect or disconnect from your home's wifi.
Found the culprit:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=tv.peel.app
I have no recollection of installing this shit but now I've uninstalled it.
I'm leaving this post for others with the same problem. Could be interesting to know how this POS found it's way onto my HTC.
After HTCs official remote app for the m8 went under they recommended peel smart remote. I don't use it heavily but it's been very reliable for me and it also helps that it's free
Never tried it but looks like it isn't abandoned like some other IP cam apps.
Actually just found this app that looks pretty promising: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mantishrimp.salienteye
Assume you don't have a samsung galaxy, LG G2, or HTC One right? They have IR blasters on them and can replace any remote- I use the app Smart Remote and it works great for all my home stereo stuff.
If I understand correctly, it was just the Pell Smart Remote wrapped up in a HTC package. Check out Peel - its got the TV guide and everything.
They probably canceled it to save money - less development they had to do, especially when there's a perfectly good alternative out there.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.alexvas.dvr
Maybe something like this? It's the best IP camera viewer app I've found on any platform. I don't know how to set the iPhone to work with it though, but as long as you get mjpeg stream out of iPhone it will work with tinycam
